Abstract:To characterize fragmentation degree of propellant quantitatively, ratio of gas generation rates was introduced. It was deduced that the ratio of gas generation rates is correlated to the ratio of burning surface area of crushed propellant to that of the standard propellant. Fragmentation degree of propellant is characterized with the average value of the ratio of gas generation rates at the initial time. Closed-bomb test was used to test the standard propellant, massive propellant, bite-size propellant and powdered propellant, and the curves of the different propellants were obtained. The quantitative value of the fragmentation degree of propellant was obtained by processing the p-t curves. Results show that the quantitative characterization method for fragmentation degree of propellant based on the ratio of gas generation rates is feasible.
