Well‐defined poly(dimethylsiloxane)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate)‐block‐poly(2,2,3,3,4,4,4‐heptafluorobutyl methacrylate) (PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PHFBMA) triblock copolymers were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Surface microphase separation in the PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PHFBMA triblock copolymer films was investigated. The microstructure of the block copolymers was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Surface composition was studied by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The chemical composition at the surface was determined by the surface microphase separation in the PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PHFBMA triblock copolymer films. The increase of the PHFBMA content could strengthen the microphase separation behavior in the PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PHFBMA triblock copolymer films and reduce their surface tension. Comparison between the PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PHFBMA triblock copolymers and the PDMS‐b‐PHFBMA diblock copolymers showed that the introduction of the PMMA segments promote the fluorine segregation onto the surface and decrease the fluorine content in the copolymers with low surface energy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The double‐hydrophobic well‐defined polydimethylsiloxane‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PDMS‐b‐PMMA) diblock copolymers were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Their chemical compositions and the structure were investigated. The micellization behavior of the double‐hydrophobic diblock copolymers with equal block length was thoroughly studied. The results showed that their self‐assembly behavior was analogous to the star‐like micelles. Furthermore, the effect of temperature on the aggregates was investigated to verify that the resulting copolymer (PDMS‐b‐PMMA) was to some extent temperature sensitive. Till date, there have been few reports on the utilization of nonamphiphilic block copolymers to synthesize and confine metal nanoparticles in aggregates. In this study, we explored the role of double‐hydrophobic block copolymers as a mediator for organically dispersible silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and it offered to be an effective stabilizer for preparing AgNPs. Besides, AgNPs generated in organic solvent is an important addition to the hitherto predominantly water‐based processes for producing nanoparticles inside the polymer surfactant. POLYM. ENG. An approach to achieve confined crystallization of ferroelectric semicrystalline poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) was investigated. A novel polydimethylsiloxane‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate)‐block‐polystyrene (PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS) triblock copolymer was synthesized by the atom‐transfer radical polymerization method and blended with PVDF. Miscibility, crystallization and morphology of the PVDF/PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS blends were studied within the whole range of concentration. In this A‐b‐B‐b‐C/D type of triblock copolymer/homopolymer system, crystallizable PVDF (D) and PMMA (B) middle block are miscible because of specific intermolecular interactions while A block (PDMS) and C block (PS) are immiscible with PVDF. Nanostructured morphology is formed via self‐assembly, displaying a variety of phase structures and semicrystalline morphologies. Crystallization at 145 °C reveals that both α and β crystalline phases of PVDF are present in PVDF/PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS blends. Incorporation of the triblock copolymer decreases the degree of crystallization and enhances the proportion of β to α phase of semicrystalline PVDF. Introduction of PDMS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS triblock copolymer to PVDF makes the crystalline structures compact and confines the crystal size. Moreover, small‐angle X‐ray scattering results indicate that the immiscible PDMS as a soft block and PS as a hard block are localized in PVDF crystalline structures. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Novel amphiphilic ABA‐type poly(D ‐gluconamidoethyl methacrylate)‐b‐polyurethane‐b‐poly(D ‐gluconamidoethyl methacrylate) (PGAMA‐b‐PU‐b‐PGAMA) tri‐block copolymers were successfully synthesized via the combination of the step‐growth and copper‐catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Dihydroxy polyurethane (HO‐PU‐OH) was synthesized by the step‐growth polymerization of hexamethylene diisocyanate with poly(tetramethylene glycol). PGAMA‐b‐PU‐b‐PGAMA block copolymers were synthesized via copper‐catalyzed ATRP of GAMA in N, N‐dimethyl formamide at 20°C in the presence of 2, 2′‐bipyridyl using Br‐PU‐Br as macroinitiator and characterized by 1H‐NMR spectroscopy and GPC. The resulting block copolymer forms spherical micelles in water as observed in TEM study, and also supported by 1H NMR spectroscopy and light scattering. Miceller size increases with increase in hydrophilic PGAMA chain length as revealed by DLS study. The critical micellar concentration values of the resulting block copolymers increased with the increase of the chain length of the PGAMA block. Thermal properties of these block copolymers were studied by thermo‐gravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetric study. Spherical Ag‐nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using these block copolymers as stabilizer. The dimension of Ag nanoparticle was tailored by altering the chain length of the hydrophilic block of the copolymer. A mechanism has been proposed for the formation of stable and regulated Ag nanoparticle using various chain length of hydrophilic PGAMA block of the tri‐block copolymer. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A polydimethylsiloxane‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PDMS‐b‐PMMA) diblock copolymer was synthesized by the atom transfer radical polymerization method and blended with a high‐molecular‐weight poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF). In this A‐b‐B/C type of diblock copolymer/homopolymer system, semi‐crystallizable PVDF (C) and PMMA (B) block are miscible due to favorable intermolecular interactions. However, the A block (PDMS) is immiscible with PVDF and therefore generates nanostructured morphology via self‐assembly. Crystallization study reveals that both α and γ crystalline phases of PVDF are present in the blends with up to 30 wt% of PDMS‐b‐PMMA block copolymer. Adding 10 wt% of PVDF to PDMS‐b‐PMMA diblock copolymer leads to worm‐like micelle morphology of PDMS of 10 nm in diameter and tens of nanometers in length. Moreover, morphological results show that PDMS nanostructures are localized in the inter‐fibrillar region of PVDF with the addition of up to 20 wt% of the block copolymer. Increase of PVDF long period by 45% and decrease of degree of crystallization by 34% confirm the localization of PDMS in the PVDF inter‐fibrillar region. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Microphase separation behavior on the surfaces of poly(dimethylsiloxane)‐block‐poly(2,2,3,3,4,4,4‐heptafluorobutyl methacrylate) (PDMS‐b‐PHFBMA) diblock copolymer coatings was investigated. The PDMS‐b‐PHFBMA diblock copolymers were successfully synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The chemical structure of the copolymers was characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Surface composition was studied by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Copolymer microstructure was investigated by atomic force microscopy. The microstructure observations show that well‐organized phase‐separated surfaces consist of hydrophobic domain from PDMS segments and more hydrophobic domain from PHFBMA segments in the copolymers. The increase in the PHFBMA content can strengthen the microphase separation behavior in the PDMS‐b‐PHFBMA diblock copolymers. And the increase in the annealing temperature can also strengthen the microphase separation behavior in the PDMS‐b‐PHFBMA diblock copolymers. Moreover, Flory‐Huggins thermodynamic theory was preliminarily used to explain the microphase separation behavior in the PDMS‐b‐PHFBMA diblock copolymers.© 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polydimethylsiloxane‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMS) was synthesized by the radical polymerization of styrene using a polydimethylsiloxane‐based macroazoinitiator (PDMS MAI) in supercritical CO2. PDMS MAI was synthesized by reacting hydroxy‐terminated PDMS and 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanopentanoyl chloride) (ACPC) having a thermodegradable azo‐linkage at room temperature. The polymerization of styrene initiated by PDMS MAI was investigated in a batch system using supercritical CO2 as the reaction medium. PDMS MAI was found to behave as a polyazoinitiator for radical block copolymerization of styrene, but not as a surfactant. The response surface methodology was used to design the experiments. The parameters used were pressure, temperature, PDMS MAI concentration and reaction time. These parameters were investigated at three levels (?1, 0 and 1). The dependent variable was taken as the polymerization yield of styrene. PDMS MAI and PDMS‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMS copolymers obtained were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy. The number‐ and weight‐average molecular weights of block copolymers were determined by gel permeation chromatography. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Polyamines are rare in literature owing to increased reactivity, sensitivity to air and moisture, low stability, and processing difficulties. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of highly processable polyamines and use them for the removal of dissolved metallic nanoparticles from water. Three amphiphilic block polyamines such as poly(N‐aminoethyl acrylamide‐b‐styrene), poly(N‐aminopropyl acrylamide‐b‐styrene), and poly(N‐aminoxylyl acrylamide‐b‐styrene) have been synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization of ethyl acrylate and styrene followed by aminolysis of the acrylic block. The polymerization and properties of the polymers are studied using different physicochemical techniques. Surface morphology of films prepared from these block copolymers by dissolving in different solvents such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran and N,N‐dimethylformamide, and drop‐casting polymers on a glass substrate show interesting porous films and spherical nanostructures. In addition, the amine‐functionalized block copolymers have been used for the removal of nanoparticles from water and show high extraction efficiency toward silver (Ag) and gold (Au) nanoparticles. All three amine‐functionalized block copolymers show higher extraction capacities (Qe) toward Au NPs (50–109 mg g?1) and Ag NPs (99–117 mg g?1). Our approach allows us to make amine‐functionalized block copolymers which are stable in air and can be easily processed in nonpolar solvents. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this study, slightly crosslinked poly(dimethylsiloxane)urethane‐co‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PDMS urethane‐co‐PMMA) graft copolymers based on two diisocyanates, 2,4‐toluene diisocyanate (2,4‐TDI) and m‐xylene diisocyanate (m‐XDI), were successfully synthesized. Glass‐transition behaviors of the copolymers were investigated. Results confirm that PDMS–urethane and PMMA are miscible in the 2,4‐TDI system, but are only partially miscible in the m‐XDI system. The methylene groups adjoining the isocyanate in the m‐XDI system show increased phase‐separation behavior over the 2,4‐TDI system, in which the benzene ring adjoins the isocyanate. The functional group of PDMS–urethane improves the impact strength of the copolymers. The toughness depends on the compatibility of PDMS–urethane and PMMA segments in the copolymers. In the m‐XDI system, the impact strength of the copolymer containing 3.75 phr macromonomer achieves a maximum value (from 13.02 to 22.21 J/m). The fracture behavior and impact strength of the copolymers in the 2,4‐TDI system are similar to that of PMMA homopolymer, although they are independent of the macromonomer content in the copolymer. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Earlier studies have shown that poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blocks are compatible at 270 and 298 K, and that their Flory–Huggins interaction parameters have the same blending ratio dependence at both temperatures. At a much higher temperature (400 K), the behavior of PEO/PMMA blends is strikingly different as both components become incompatible, while the Flory–Huggins parameters are low. Here we investigate the effect of doping with nanoparticles on the degree of incompatibility of twelve miktoarm PEO‐b‐PMMA copolymers at 400 K. Since PEO tends to be semicrystalline and long chains aggregate easily, PEO‐rich and long‐chain copolymer blends feature the highest degree of incompatibility for all nanoparticle arrangements and present cubic phase morphologies. In addition, the largest nanoparticles can reinforce the microscopic phase separation of all PEO‐b‐PMMA copolymers. This shows that the main factor affecting the phase morphology is the size of the nanoparticles. Also, only the asymmetric Da3‐type PEO‐rich copolymers show a hexagonal cylindrical phase morphology, which illustrates the effect induced by the nanoparticles on the microscopic phase separation changes of the PEO‐b‐PMMA copolymers. These induced effects are also related to the composition and molecular architecture of the copolymers. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Poly(methyl methyacrylate)‐block‐polydimethylsiloxane (PMMA‐b‐PDMS) copolymers with various compositions were synthesized with PDMS‐containing macroazoinitiator (MAI), which was first prepared by a facile one‐step method in our lab. Results from the characterizations of X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), contact angle measurements, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) showed that the copolymer films took on a gradient of composition and more PDMS segments enriched at the film surfaces, which then resulted in the low surface free energy and little microphase separation at the film surfaces. By contrast, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis demonstrated that distinct microphase separation occurred in bulk. Slight crosslinking of the block copolymers led to much steady morphology and more distinct microphase separation, in particularly for copolymers with low content of PDMS. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The melting and crystallization behaviours of a polyethylene‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PE‐b‐PMMA) diblock copolymer and a PE homopolymer were investigated using multiple heating and cooling rate differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments, and modelling of the crystallization kinetics and lamellar thickness distribution. This new model was first validated applying literature and experimental data. The model‐predicted morphology (n = 3.2) closely matched the spherulitic morphology (n = 3), which was determined using polarized optical microscopy. For each experimental cooling rate, the model predicted diblock copolymer crystallinity that well matched the entire DSC crystallinity curve, notably for an Avrami–Erofeev index of n = 2; and apparent crystallization activation energy that hardly varied with the cooling rates used, relative crystallinity (α), and crystallization temperature or time. This disfavours the concept of variable activation energy. The use of the right crystallization model and parameter estimation algorithm is important for addressing the mathematical artefact. Under non‐isothermal cooling, the PE‐b‐PMMA diblock copolymer, as per the model prediction, crystallized without confinement (n ≠ 1), preserving the cylindrical structure. From the characteristic shapes of the crystallization function f(α(T)) versus 1/T and crystallization rate versus α plots, the resulting Tcmax and narrow αmax range can guide the search for an appropriate crystallization model. The overall treatment illustrated in this study is not restricted to a PE homopolymer and a PE‐b‐isotactic PMMA block copolymer. It can be generally applied to crystalline homopolymers and copolymers (alternating, random and block), as well as their blends. The block copolymers and blends can be crystalline–amorphous as well as crystalline–crystalline. © 2014 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Diblock copolymers with different poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) block lengths were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG‐OH, MW 2000) as initiator. The self‐aggregation behaviors and microscopic characteristics of the diblock copolymer self‐aggregates, prepared by the diafiltration method, were investigated by using 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and fluorescence spectroscopy. The PEG–PCL block copolymers formed the self‐aggregate in an aqueous environment by intra‐ and/or intermolecular association between hydrophobic PCL chains. The critical aggregation concentrations of the block copolymer self‐aggregate became lower with increasing hydrophobic PCL block length. On the other hand, reverse trends of mean hydrodynamic diameters were measured by DLS owing to the increasing bulkiness of the hydrophobic chains and hydrophobic interaction between the PCL microdomains. The partition equilibrium constants (Kv) of pyrene, measured by fluorescence spectroscopy, revealed that the inner core hydrophobicity of the nanoparticles increased with increasing PCL chain length. The aggregation number of PCL chain per one hydrophobic microdomain, investigated by the fluorescence quenching method using cetylpyridinium chloride as a quencher, revealed that 4–20 block copolymer chains were needed to form a hydrophobic microdomain, depending on PCL block length. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(A)‐block‐poly(B), poly(A)‐block‐poly(B)‐block‐poly(A) and B(A)2 block copolymers were prepared through coordinated anionic ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL) and lactic acid (LA) using hydroxy‐terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as initiator. A wide range of well‐defined combinations of PDMS‐block‐PCL and PDMS‐block‐PLA diblock copolymers, PCL‐block‐PDMS‐block‐PCL and PLA‐block‐PDMS‐block‐PLA triblock copolymers and star‐PDMS(PCL)2 copolymers were thus obtained. The number‐average molar masses and the structure of the synthesized block copolymers were identified using various analytical techniques. The thermal properties of these copolymers were established using differential scanning calorimetry. Considering PDMS‐block‐PCL copolymers, the results demonstrate the complex effect of polymer architecture and PCL block length on the ability of the PDMS block to crystallize or not. In the case of diblock copolymers, crystallization of PCL blocks originated from stacking of adjacent chains inducing the extension of the PDMS block that can easily crystallize. In the case of star copolymers, the same tendency as in triblock copolymers is observed, showing a limited crystallization of PDMS when the length of the PCL block increases. In the case of PDMS‐block‐PLA copolymers, melting and crystallization transitions of the PLA block are never observed. Considering the diblock copolymers, PDMS sequences have the ability to crystallize. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Novel bioactive and optically active poly(N‐acryloyl‐L ‐phenylalanine) (PAPA) was synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization. PAPA‐silver (Ag) nanocomposites have been successfully prepared via in situ reducing Ag+ ions anchored in the polymer chain using hydrazine hydrate as reducing agent in an aqueous medium. By controlling of the amount of Ag+ ions introduced, we have produced an organic/inorganic nanocomposite containing Ag nanoparticles with well controlled size. Nanocomposites were characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), UV–Vis spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared. XRD pattern showed presence of Ag nanoparticles. The PAPA/Ag nanocomposites with 1 : 10 silver nitrate (AgNO3) : PAPA ratio revealed the presence of well‐dispersed Ag nanoparticles in the polymer matrix. All of these Ag nanoparticles formed are spherical and more than 80% of them are in the range of 15–25 nm. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

Dually responsive amphiphilic diblock copolymers consisting of hydrophilic poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) [poly(NIPAAm)] and hydrophobic poly(9‐anthracene methyl methacrylate) were synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization with 3‐(benzyl sulfanyl thiocarbonyl sulfanyl) propionic acid as a chain‐transfer agent. In the first step, the poly(NIPAAm) chain was grown to make a macro‐RAFT agent, and in the second step, the chain was extended by hydrophobic 9‐anthryl methyl methacrylate to yield amphiphilic poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide‐b‐9‐anthracene methyl methacrylate) block copolymers. The formation of copolymers with three different hydrophobic block lengths and a fixed hydrophilic block was confirmed from their molecular weights. The self‐assembly of these copolymers was studied through the determination of the lower critical solution temperature and critical micelle concentration of the copolymers in aqueous solution. The self‐assembled block copolymers displayed vesicular morphology in the case of the small hydrophobic chain, but the morphology gradually turned into a micellar type when the hydrophobic chain length was increased. The variations in the length and chemical composition of the blocks allowed the tuning of the block copolymer responsiveness toward both the pH and temperature. The resulting self‐assembled structures underwent thermally induced and pH‐induced morphological transitions from vesicles to micelles and vice versa in aqueous solution. These dually responsive amphiphilic diblock copolymers have potential applications in the encapsulation of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic drug molecules, as evidenced from the dye encapsulation studies. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) macroazoinitiator was synthesized from bis(hydroxyalkyl)‐terminated PDMS and 4,4′‐azobis‐4‐cyanopentanoic acid by a condensation reaction. The bifunctional macroinitiator was used for the block copolymerization of ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and 2‐(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate (TMSHEMA) monomers. The poly(DMS‐block‐EMA) and poly(DMS‐block‐TMSHEMA) copolymers thus obtained were characterized using Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. After the deprotection of trimethylsilyl groups, poly(DMS‐block‐HEMA) and poly(DMS‐block‐EMA) copolymer film surfaces were analysed using scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The effects of the PDMS concentration in the copolymers on both air and glass sides of films were examined. The PDMS segments oriented and moved to the glass side in poly(DMS‐block‐EMA) copolymer film while orientation to the air side became evident with increasing DMS content in poly(DMS‐block‐HEMA) copolymer film. The block copolymerization technique described here is a versatile and economic method and is also applicable to a wide range of monomers. The copolymers obtained have phase‐separated morphologies and the effects of DMS segments on copolymer film surfaces are different at the glass and air sides. With a polycarbonate (PC)–poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) graft copolymer and a PC–poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) block copolymer, the relationship between the composition of PC copolymers and the refractive index (nD) was investigated. According to the results, with a PMMA content of 38 wt %, the nD value of the PC–PMMA graft copolymer was nearly the same as that of electrical (E) glass (nD = 1.545), and with a PMMA content of 6 wt %, it was nearly the same as that of electrical corrosion resistance (ECR) glass (nD = 1.579). However, with a PDMS content of 19 wt %, the nD value of the PC–PDMS block copolymer was nearly the same as that of E glass, and with a PDMS content of 2 wt %, it was nearly the same as that of ECR glass. The combination of the PC–PDMS block copolymer and the glass fibers (GFs) of ECR glass led to haze values of 8 and 16% with GF contents of 10 and 20%, respectively. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polystyrene‐b‐poly(dimethylsiloxane)‐b‐polystyrene (Pst‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PSt) triblock copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Commercially available difunctional PDMS containing vinylsilyl terminal species was reacted with hydrogen bromide, resulting in the PDMS macroinitiators for the ATRP of styrene (St). The latter procedure was carried out at 130°C in a phenyl ether solution with CuCl and 4, 4′‐di (5‐nonyl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine (dNbpy) as the catalyzing system. By using this technique, triblock copolymers consisting of a PDMS center block and polystyrene terminal blocks were synthesized. The polymerization was controllable; ATRP of St from those macroinitiators showed linear increases in Mn with conversion. The block copolymers were characterized with IR and 1H‐NMR. The effects of molecular weight of macroinitiators, macroinitiator concentration, catalyst concentration, and temperature on the polymerization were also investigated. Thermodynamic data and activation parameters for the ATRP are reported. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 92: 3764–3770, 2004  相似文献
