The physicochemical properties, fatty acid, tocopherol, thermal properties, 1H NMR, FTIR and profiles of non-conventional oil extracted from Citrullus colocynthis (L.) Schrad seeds were evaluated and compared with conventional sunflower seed oil. In addition, the antioxidant properties of C. colocynthis seed oil were also evaluated. The oil content of the C. colocynthis seeds was 23.16%. The main fatty acids in the oil were linoleic acid (66.73%) followed by oleic acid (14.78%), palmitic acid (9.74%), and stearic acid (7.37%). The tocopherol content was 121.85 mg/100 g with γ-tocopherol as the major one (95.49%). The thermogravimetric analysis showed that the oil was thermally stable up to 286.57 °C, and then began to decompose in four stages namely at 377.4 °C, 408.4 °C, 434.9 °C and 559.2 °C. The present study showed that this non-conventional C. colocynthis seed oil can be used for food and non-food applications to supplement or replace some of the conventional oils.  相似文献

Purified menhaden oil (PMO) was characterized and microencapsulated. Baby foods containing PMO and microencapsulated purified menhaden oil (MPMO) were evaluated and compared. PMO had higher total omega-3, total saturated, total monounsaturated, DHA, and EPA contents than MPMO. Emulsion containing PMO (EPMO) exhibited viscoelastic characteristic and droplet size of EPMO was around 2-10 μm. The DHA and EPA in the PMO were reduced in MPMO. All baby-food samples with added fish oils had similar FFA values and color. DHA and EPA of baby food were significantly increased by adding PMO and/or MPMO. Total percent values for omega-3 fatty acids of extracted fat from commercial baby food (CB), commercial baby food containing PMO (BPMO), and commercial baby food containing MPMO (BMPMO) were 4.5, 9.8 and 10.1%, respectively.  相似文献

Carp viscera oil can be obtained by both ensilage and fishmeal processes. This study examined the refinement of carp (Cyprinus carpio) oils obtained by both processes, and compared crude, neutralised, bleached, winterised and deodorised oils’ characteristics and lipid profiles. Refined oils obtained by the two processes did not present significant difference (> 0.05) for Lovibond colour, free fatty acids, and thiobarbituric acid values. The major fatty acids identified in the carp crude, bleached and refined oils were oleic, palmitic, palmitoleic, linoleic and linolenic, constituting approximately 69.6% of the total fatty acids of the oils. The n − 3/n − 6 ratio was approximately 1.05 for refined oil. Therefore, carp viscera refined oil can be considered a rich source of essential fatty acids of the n − 3 and n − 6 series.  相似文献

Antimicrobial activity of different concentrations (50, 100, 200, 300 and 500 ml/l) of essential oil extracts of three type of onions (green, yellow and red) and garlic against two bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmomella Enteritidis, and three fungi, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium cyclopium and Fusarium oxysporum, was investigated. The essential oil (EO) extracts of these Allium plants (garlic and onions) exhibited marked antibacterial activity, with garlic showing the highest inhibition and green onion the lowest. Comparatively, 50 and 100 ml/l concentrations of onions extracts were less inhibitory than 200, 300 and 500 ml/l concentrations. However, with garlic extract, high inhibitory activity was observed for all tested concentrations. S. aureus showed less sensitivity towards EO extracts inhibition, however S. Enteritidis was strongly inhibited by red onion and garlic extracts. The fungus F. oxysporum showed the lowest sensitivity towards EO extracts, whereas A. niger and P. cyclopium were significantly inhibited particularly at low concentrations. Conclusively, where seasoning is desired, essential oil extracts of onions and garlic can be used as natural antimicrobial additives for incorporating in various food products.  相似文献

Fish oil is the major food source of the long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Deodorisation represents a critical step of the refining process since it involves high temperature that could induce degradation reactions which affect oil integrity and quality. The present study evaluated the effect of the deodorisation variables (temperature, time and steam) on the croaker (Micropogonias furnieri) oil refining process. The evaluated parameters were Lovibond color (LC), free fatty acids (FFA), peroxide (PV), Iodine (IV) and Saponification (SV) values. The best deodorisation conditions were at 220 °C, 60 min and 5% of steam (based in oil mass), resulting in oil with LC of 0.4 red and 30 yellow, FFA of 0.09%, PV of 0.53 meq/kg. IV and SV were not significantly affected. The obtained fish oil presented high quality and oxidative stability, as well as EPA and DHA contents of approximately 12% of total fatty acids.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to assess the performance of a vacuum fractionating column for the fractionation of citronella essential oil and concentrated orange oil phase during batch mode operation at different pressures, from 20 to 1 mbar and reflux ratios from 1:1 to 10:1. Fractions from column top and bottom were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC/FID) using authentic standards of major constituents of the oils. Good fractionation results for citronella essential oil were achieved, affording complete removal of limonene, with a rich citronellal fraction and an output stream constituted mainly by citronellol and geraniol. Likewise, the use of the vacuum fractionation column allowed almost complete removal of limonene (∼0.7 wt% at column bottom) from the orange oil phase at the lowest operating pressure, 1 mbar, while the higher valencene content (20.5 wt%) was obtained at 10 mbar and reflux ratio of 1:1.  相似文献

The water and oil uptake of mesquite and arabic gums in powdered form was studied at temperatures of 23, 35 and 45°C. A previously proposed equation to predict osmotic equilibrium was tested using the experimental data with both gums and a good statistical fit was obtained. Mesquite gum showed the highest water and oil absorption at all temperatures studied. Temperature dependence of the reciprocal of the S1 and WL were determined using an Arrhenius equation. The activation energy for water and oil absorption for gum arabic was 21.98 and 39.57 kJ mol−1, compared to that of mesquite gum having values of 15.79 and 46.16 kJ mol−1, respectively. A second order kinetic model was obtained for water and oil absorption for both gums.  相似文献

Repellent and fumigant activity of the essential oil of mugwort, Artemisia vulgaris, against the stored-product insect pest, Tribolium castaneum was investigated. Artemisia vulgaris oil had a very strong repellent activity to adults and was significantly repellent at a 0.6 μL/mL (v/v) and higher in a filter-paper arena test. The oil had high fumigant activity against adults and larvae with adults much more susceptible than larvae. At 8.0 μL/mL, mortality of adults reached 100%, but with 12-, 14- and 16-day larvae, mortalities were 49%, 53% and 52%, respectively. The oil also had high-fumigant activity against eggs and toxicity progressively increased with increased exposure time and concentration. At dosages of 10, 15 and 20 μL/L air and a 96 h exposure period, mortality reached 100%. Regression analysis of data on individuals fumigated in the larval stage confirmed that the percentage of larvae reaching the pupal stage and the percentage of pupae that reached the adult stage, decreased significantly with increase in dosage concentration. No larvae, pupae and adults were observed following a 60 μL/L dosage.  相似文献

Olive oil extraction using a horizontal centrifuge with a screw conveyor is an essential operation to reduce production costs. However, proper control of the plant is required to maintain a high level of extraction yield and olive oil quality. Rheological characteristics of the olive paste, which change in relation to water content, fruit variety, maturity level and seasonal temperature variations, greatly affect the efficiency of centrifugal extraction. If olive paste is fed to a decanter without automatic control, then non-optimal extraction is performed.  相似文献

The essential oil extracted from nutmeg seeds using steam distillation was tested against the stored product insect pests, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) and Sitophilus zeamais Motsch., for contact toxicity, fumigant toxicity and antifeedant activity. Filter paper impregnation was employed for contact and fumigant toxicity studies, whereas a flour disc bioassay was used to investigate antifeedant effects. Adults of S. zeamais were about ten times more susceptible than T. castaneum adults to contact action (LC50 values of 1.7 mg/cm2 and 18 mg/cm2 respectively). However, S. zeamais adults were only 1.7 times more susceptible than T. castaneum adults to fumigant action (LC50 values of 4.5 mg/cm2 and 7.7 mg/cm2 respectively). Furthermore, the larvae (10–16 days old) of T. castaneum were more susceptible than the adults, but the susceptibility of the larvae decreased with age. Nutmeg oil also significantly (P < 0.05) affected the hatching of T. castaneum eggs and the subsequent survival of the larvae in the concentration range 1.4–3.2 mg/cm2. The production of F1 progeny of both T. castaneum and S. zeamais exposed to media treated with nutmeg oil was significantly (P < 0.05) reduced at all concentrations tested. F1 progeny production was totally suppressed at nutmeg oil concentrations of 1.05 g/100 g rice for T. castaneum and 0.35 g/100 g wheat for S. zeamais. Nutritional studies showed that nutmeg oil significantly (P < 0.05) affected the growth rate and food consumption of both insect species, depending on the concentrations used, but the antifeedant activity was more pronounced against S. zeamaisthan against T. castaneum. At 20 g nutmeg oil/100 ml, the feeding deterrence index of T. castaneum was only about 7%, whereas that of S. zeamaiswas 33%. These results suggest that nutmeg oil may be useful as a grain protectant with contact, fumigant and antifeedant activities against these insects.  相似文献

Peach kernel oil was extracted using Soxhlet extraction with different solvents (petroleum ether, ethyl ether, chloroform and hexane). The physicochemical properties (acid value, iodine value, peroxide value and saponification value), the fatty acid composition, phenolic constituents and contents, and antioxidant activities of peach kernel oil were examined. As per our results, oil extracted with hexane has better overall quality. Its acid, peroxide, iodine and saponification values were 0.895 mg KOH/g oil, 0.916 mg/g oil, 36.328 mg/100 g oil and 101.836 mg KOH/g oil, respectively. Large proportions of unsaturated fatty acid (91.27%) and high content of phenolic compounds (4.1593 mg GAE/g), which contribute to considerably strong antioxidant activity, were found in oil. The main fatty acids found in the peach kernel oil were oleic acid (61.87 g/100 g oil) and linoleic acid (29.07 g/100 g oil). The HPLC analysis of phenolic compounds showed that rutin, (-)-epicatechin gallate, hydrocinnamic acid, sinopinic acid, dithiothreitol and caffeic acid were major constituents. The results suggested that peach kernel oil is a good source of the unsaturated fatty acid, phenolic compounds with strong antioxidant activity, and has the potential to be used as nutrient rich food oil. The results also verified that peach kernel meals contained higher amounts of total phenolic and stronger antioxidant activities than oils, enabling their application as ingredients for functional or enriched foods.  相似文献

Thirteen essential oils (Apium graveolens, Citrus sinensis, Eucalyptus globulus, Juniperus oxycedrus, Laurus nobilis, Lavandula hybrida, Mentha microphylla, Mentha viridis, Ocimum basilicum, Origanum vulgare, Pistacia terebinthus, Rosmarinus officinalis, and Thuja orientalis) were tested in their vapour form against Acanthoscelides obtectus. Choice and no-choice tests revealed that most of them have a repellent action, reduce fecundity, decrease egg hatchability, increase neonate larval mortality and adversely influence offspring emergence. Furthermore, some oils were strongly toxic to A. obtectus, males appearing more susceptible than females. Among the essential oils tested, the most toxic for males were those of M. microphylla and M. viridis whereas the most toxic against females were those of L. hybrida and R. officinalis.  相似文献

The conventional steam distillation process for oregano (Lippia berlandieri v. Shauer) essential oil extraction produces large volumes of mother liquor. This residual liquid represents a potential value because the soluble antioxidants it contains. Essential oil and ethyl acetate mother liquor extracts (MLEs) were evaluated for antioxidant activity. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activities by the 2-2′-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method, by the deoxyribose degradation assay, and by oxidation of low density lipoproteins (LDL) with CuSO4 were evaluated. Oil yield was 4.34%. Total phenolic content was 151 ± 2.00 and 150.5 ± 0.98 mg of GAE (gallic acid equivalents)/mL for the essential oil and MLEs, respectively. DPPH assay showed a low radical scavenging activity (RSA) for oregano essential oil. Meanwhile MLEs exhibited no significant RSA at low concentrations, but at higher concentrations (100 μg/mL), it was superior to those exhibited by the controls ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). Deoxy-d-ribose assay results for both essential oil and MLEs showed a good hydroxyl radical RSA at the concentrations tested. Essential oil and MLEs delayed induction time effectively. Solubility problems, chemical constituents, and their hydrophilic–lipophilic distribution are key factors that explain samples behavior for an eventual use of these natural products.  相似文献

Pulp composition, lipid classes, fatty acid composition, fatty acid distribution in triglycerides and triglyceride composition of pulp oil from the fruit of the Astrocaryum vulgare (Mart) palm have been studied. Triglycerides were the major species, accounting for 86·8% of the oil. Palmitic and oleic acids were the dominant fatty acids in whole oil, triglycerides and in the 2-position of triglycerides.

A. vulgare pulp oil contained a broad range of triglycerides, the major types of which were S2U (31·4mol.%) and SU2 (43·1 mol.%). S3 and U3 accounted for 6·9mol.% and 18·6mol.%, respectively.

Proximate analysis of pulp gave: protein, 5·9%; crude fibre, 5·7%; ash, 1·9%; carbohydrate, 19·5%; oil, 22·0% and moisture, 45·0%.  相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the extraction of canola seed (Brassica napus) oil using supercritical carbon dioxide and compressed propane as solvents. The extractions were performed in a laboratory scale unit at temperatures and pressures of 40, 50 and 60 °C and 20, 22.5 and 25 MPa for carbon dioxide and 30, 45 and 60 °C and 8, 10 and 12 MPa for propane extractions, respectively. The results indicated that pressure and temperature were important variables for the CO2 extraction, while temperature is the most important variable for the extraction yield with propane. The extraction with propane was much faster than that with carbon dioxide. The characteristics of the extracted oil, that is, the oxidative stability determined by DSC and the chemical profile of fatty acids determined by gas chromatography, were similar for the two solvents. The overall extraction curves were well described by the Sovová model.  相似文献
