In multimaterial topology optimization of minimizing a global measure of stress, the maximum stresses in different materials may not satisfy the strength design requirements simultaneously if stress constraints for different materials are not considered. In this paper, a level set–based method is presented to handle the stress-constrained multimaterial topology optimization of minimizing a global stress measure. Specifically, a multimaterial level set model is adopted to describe the structural topology, and a stress interpolation scheme is introduced for stress evaluation. Then, a stress penalty-based topology optimization model is presented. Meanwhile, an adaptive adjusting scheme of the stress penalty factor is employed to improve the control of the local stress level. To solve the stress-constrained multimaterial topology optimization problem minimizing the global measure of stress, the parametric level set method is employed, and the sensitivity analysis is carried out. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented method. Results indicate that multimaterial structures with optimized global stress can be gained, and stress constraints for different materials can be satisfied simultaneously.  相似文献

Topology optimization using stress constraints and considering uncertainties is a serious challenge, since a reliability problem has to be solved for each stress constraint, for each element in the mesh. In this paper, an alternative way of solving this problem is used, where uncertainty quantification is performed through the first‐order perturbation approach, with proper validation by Monte Carlo simulation. Uncertainties are considered in the loading magnitude and direction. The minimum volume problem subjected to local stress constraints is formulated as a robust problem, where the stress constraints are written as a weighted average between their expected value and standard deviation. The augmented Lagrangian method is used for handling the large set of local stress constraints, whereas a gradient‐based algorithm is used for handling the bounding constraints. It is shown that even in the presence of small uncertainties in loading direction, different topologies are obtained when compared to a deterministic approach. The effect of correlation between uncertainties in loading magnitude and direction on optimal topologies is also studied, where the main observed result is loss of symmetry in optimal topologies.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an approach for reliability‐based design optimization where a structure of minimum weight subject to reliability constraints on the effective stresses is sought. The reliability‐based topology optimization problem is formulated by using the performance measure approach, and the sequential optimization and reliability assessment method is employed. This strategy allows for decoupling the reliability‐based topology optimization problem into 2 steps, namely, deterministic topology optimization and reliability analysis. In particular, the deterministic structural optimization problem subject to stress constraints is addressed with an efficient methodology based on the topological derivative concept together with a level‐set domain representation method. The resulting algorithm is applied to some benchmark problems, showing the effectiveness of the proposed approach.  相似文献

We introduce an extension of current technologies for topology optimization of continuum structures which allows for treating local stress criteria. We first consider relevant stress criteria for porous composite materials, initially by studying the stress states of the so-called rank 2 layered materials. Then, on the basis of the theoretical study of the rank 2 microstructures, we propose an empirical model that extends the power penalized stiffness model (also called SIMP for Solid Isotropic Microstructure with Penalization for inter-mediate densities). In a second part, solution aspects of topology problems are considered. To deal with the so-called ‘singularity’ phenomenon of stress constraints in topology design, an ϵ-constraint relaxation of the stress constraints is used. We describe the mathematical programming approach that is used to solve the numerical optimization problems, and show results for a number of example applications. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a hierarchical optimization method for finding feasible true 0–1 solutions to finite‐element‐based topology design problems. The topology design problems are initially modelled as non‐convex mixed 0–1 programs. The hierarchical optimization method is applied to the problem of minimizing the weight of a structure subject to displacement and local design‐dependent stress constraints. The method iteratively treats a sequence of problems of increasing size of the same type as the original problem. The problems are defined on a design mesh which is initially coarse and then successively refined as needed. At each level of design mesh refinement, a neighbourhood optimization method is used to treat the problem considered. The non‐convex topology design problems are equivalently reformulated as convex all‐quadratic mixed 0–1 programs. This reformulation enables the use of methods from global optimization, which have only recently become available, for solving the problems in the sequence. A bidirectional evolutionary structural optimization algorithm is presented, which employs integer linear programming to compute optimal solutions to topology optimization problems with the objective of mass minimization. The objective and constraint functions are linearized using Taylor's first-order approximation, thereby allowing the method to handle all types of constraints without using Lagrange multipliers or sensitivity thresholds. A relaxation of the constraint targets is performed such that only small changes in topology are allowed during a single update, thus ensuring the existence of feasible solutions. A variety of problems are solved, demonstrating the ability of the method to easily handle a number of structural constraints, including compliance, stress, buckling, frequency, and displacement. This is followed by an example with multiple structural constraints and, finally, the method is demonstrated on a wing-box, showing that topology optimization for mass minimization of real-world structures can be considered using the proposed methodology.  相似文献

In this paper, a piecewise constant level set (PCLS) method is implemented to solve a structural shape and topology optimization problem. In the classical level set method, the geometrical boundary of the structure under optimization is represented by the zero level set of a continuous level set function, e.g. the signed distance function. Instead, in the PCLS approach the boundary is described by discontinuities of PCLS functions. The PCLS method is related to the phase‐field methods, and the topology optimization problem is defined as a minimization problem with piecewise constant constraints, without the need of solving the Hamilton–Jacobi equation. The result is not moving the boundaries during the iterative procedure. Thus, it offers some advantages in treating geometries, eliminating the reinitialization and naturally nucleating holes when needed. In the paper, the PCLS method is implemented with the additive operator splitting numerical scheme, and several numerical and procedural issues of the implementation are discussed. Examples of 2D structural topology optimization problem of minimum compliance design are presented, illustrating the effectiveness of the proposed method. This paper presents a level‐set‐based topology optimization method based on numerically consistent sensitivity analysis. The proposed method uses a direct steepest‐descent update of the design variables in a level‐set method; the level‐set nodal values. An exact Heaviside formulation is used to relate the level‐set function to element densities. The level‐set function is not required to be a signed‐distance function, and reinitialization is not necessary. Using this approach, level‐set‐based topology optimization problems can be solved consistently and multiple constraints treated simultaneously. The proposed method leads to more insight in the nature of level‐set‐based topology optimization problems. The level‐set‐based design parametrization can describe gray areas and numerical hinges. Consistency causes results to contain these numerical artifacts. We demonstrate that alternative parameterizations, level‐set‐based or density‐based regularization can be used to avoid artifacts in the final results. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using several benchmark problems. The capability to treat multiple constraints shows the potential of the method. Furthermore, due to the consistency, the optimizer can run into local minima; a fundamental difficulty of level‐set‐based topology optimization. Stress‐related problems have not been given the same attention as the minimum compliance topological optimization problem in the literature. Continuum structural topological optimization with stress constraints is of wide engineering application prospect, in which there still are many problems to solve, such as the stress concentration, an equivalent approximate optimization model and etc. A new and effective topological optimization method of continuum structures with the stress constraints and the objective function being the structural volume has been presented in this paper. To solve the stress concentration issue, an approximate stress gradient evaluation for any element is introduced, and a total aggregation normalized stress gradient constraint is constructed for the optimized structure under the r?th load case. To obtain stable convergent series solutions and enhance the control on the stress level, two p‐norm global stress constraint functions with different indexes are adopted, and some weighting p‐norm global stress constraint functions are introduced for any load case. And an equivalent topological optimization model with reduced stress constraints is constructed,being incorporated with the rational approximation for material properties, an active constraint technique, a trust region scheme, and an effective local stress approach like the qp approach to resolve the stress singularity phenomenon. Hence, a set of stress quadratic explicit approximations are constructed, based on stress sensitivities and the method of moving asymptotes. A set of algorithm for the one level optimization problem with artificial variables and many possible non‐active design variables is proposed by adopting an inequality constrained nonlinear programming method with simple trust regions, based on the primal‐dual theory, in which the non‐smooth expressions of the design variable solutions are reformulated as smoothing functions of the Lagrange multipliers by using a novel smoothing function. Finally, a two‐level optimization design scheme with active constraint technique, i.e. varied constraint limits, is proposed to deal with the aggregation constraints that always are of loose constraint (non active constraint) features in the conventional structural optimization method. A novel structural topological optimization method with stress constraints and its algorithm are formed, and examples are provided to demonstrate that the proposed method is feasible and very effective. © 2016 The Authors. We present a method for finding solutions of large‐scale binary programming problems where the calculation of derivatives is very expensive. We then apply this method to a topology optimization problem of weight minimization subject to compliance and buckling constraints. We derive an analytic expression for the derivative of the stress stiffness matrix with respect to the density of an element in the finite‐element setting. Following the extended two-material density penalization scheme, a stress-based topology optimization method for the layout design of prestressed concrete structures is proposed. The Drucker–Prager yield criterion is used to predict the asymmetrical strength failure of concrete. The prestress is considered by making a reasonable assumption on the prestressing orientation in each element and adding an additional load vector to the structural equilibrium function. The proposed optimization model is thus formulated as to minimize the reinforcement material volume under Drucker–Prager yield constraints on elemental concrete local stresses. In order to give a reasonable definition of concrete local stress and prevent the stress singularity phenomenon, the local stress interpolation function and the ? -relaxation technique are adopted. The topology optimization problem is solved using the method of moving asymptotes combined with an active set strategy. Numerical examples are given to show the efficiency of the proposed optimization method in the layout design of prestressed concrete structures.  相似文献

This study aims to develop efficient numerical optimization methods for finding the optimal topology of nonlinear structures under dynamic loads. The numerical models are developed using the bidirectional evolutionary structural optimization method for stiffness maximization problems with mass constraints. The mathematical formulation of topology optimization approach is developed based on the element virtual strain energy as the design variable and minimization of compliance as the objective function. The suitability of the proposed method for topology optimization of nonlinear structures is demonstrated through a series of two- and three-dimensional benchmark designs. Several issues relating to the nonlinear structures subjected to dynamic loads such as material, geometric, and contact nonlinearities are addressed in the examples. It is shown that the proposed approach generates more reliable designs for nonlinear structures.  相似文献

This paper presents a combinatorial optimization procedure based on the simulated annealing approach for generation of optimal configuration of structural members. The work is based on altering the finite element model of structure by removing or restoring elements to minimize the material use subject to constraints on maximum stress value and maintenance of connectivity between elements. Such an optimization problem is categorized as a large-scale, non-convex and non-linear problem. Thus, the problem can have multi-minima and it is important to find the global optimum solution as opposed to a local minimization. To improve the computational efficiency, the non-linear shape optimization problem has been linearized and to account for the difference between the non-linear and the linearized values a correction factor is implemented. To illustrate the approach, several design examples are presented and the effect of the parameter of the simulated annealing on the final configuration design is examined. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A design procedure for integrating topological considerations in the framework of structural optimization is presented. The proposed approach is capable of considering multiple load conditions, stress, displacement and local/global buckling constraints, and multiple objective functions in the problem formulation. Further, since the proposed method permits members to be added to or deleted from an existing topology and the topology is not defined by member areas, the difficulty of not being able to reach singular optima is also avoided. These objectives are accomplished using a discrete optimization procedure which uses 0–1 topological variables to optimize alternate designs. Since the topological variables are discrete in nature and the member cross-sections are assumed to be continuous, the topological optimization problem has mixed discrete-continuous variables. This non-linear programming problem is solved using a memory-based combinatorial optimization technique known as tabu search. Numerical results obtained using tabu search for single and multiobjective topological optimization of truss structures are presented. To model the multiple objective functions in the problem formulation, a cooperative game theoretic approach is used. The results indicate that the optimum topologies obtained using tabu search compare favourably, and in some instances, outperform the results obtained using the ground–structure approach. However, this improvement occurs at the expense of a significant increase in computational burden owing to the fact that the proposed approach necessitates that the geometry of each trial topology be optimized.  相似文献

This paper presents a multilevel substructuring and optimization approach to the minimum weight design of laminated composite structures. The optimization process is carried out in a double scheme which consists of optimizations at system and subsystem levels. At the system level of optimization, an optimality criterion method is used to design component thicknesses which minimize structural weight subject to structural behavioral constraints as well as side constraints. At the subsystem level, the structure being divided into several substructures, fiber directions and layer thicknesses of each substructure are determined to minimize its weight subject to component behavioral constraints as well as side constraints. The objective at the subsystem level is accomplished by carrying out the minimization process again in a double scheme where the quasi-Newton method is used at the first sub-level of optimization for the optimal design of fiber directions and an optimality criterion method at the second sub-level for layer thickness design. The optimal solution is obtained by iterating between the different levels of optimization. Appropriate connectivity conditions for linking different levels of optimization are introduced to ensure convergence of solution. The feasibility and application of the present approach is illustrated by an example of the optimal design of a single-cell, three bay, cantilevered boxbeam.  相似文献

An optimization procedure has been developed to uniquely and efficiently determine the “best” local geometry design of a new composite ChamberCore structure. This procedure is based on minimization of the total mass of a single composite ChamberCore subject to a set of design and stress constraints. The stress constraints are obtained in closed form based on the composite box-beam model for various composite lamination designs and loading conditions. The optimization problem statement is constructed and then solved using the VMCON optimization program, which is an iterative sequential quadratic programming (SQP) technique based on Powell's algorithm. The sensitivity of the solution of the optimal geometry to the values of parameters that characterize the structural durability and the failure mechanism is discussed.  相似文献

This work addresses the use of the topology optimization approach to the design of robust continuum structures under the hypothesis of uncertainties with known second‐order statistics. To this end, the second‐order perturbation approach is used to model the response of the structure, and the midpoint discretization technique is used to discretize the random field. The objective function is a weighted sum of the expected compliance and its standard deviation. The optimization problem is solved using a traditional optimality criteria method. It is shown that the correlation length plays an important role in the obtained topology and statistical moments when only the minimization of the standard deviation is considered, resulting in more and thinner reinforcements as the correlation length decreases. It is also shown that the minimization of the expected value is close to the minimization of the deterministic compliance for small variations of Young's modulus. Linear buckling constraints are important in structural topology optimization for obtaining designs that can support the required loads without failure. During the optimization process, the critical buckling eigenmode can change; this poses a challenge to gradient‐based optimization and can require the computation of a large number of linear buckling eigenmodes. This is potentially both computationally difficult to achieve and prohibitively expensive. In this paper, we motivate the need for a large number of linear buckling modes and show how several features of the block Jacobi conjugate gradient (BJCG) eigenvalue method, including optimal shift estimates, the reuse of eigenvectors, adaptive eigenvector tolerances and multiple shifts, can be used to efficiently and robustly compute a large number of buckling eigenmodes. This paper also introduces linear buckling constraints for level‐set topology optimization. In our approach, the velocity function is defined as a weighted sum of the shape sensitivities for the objective and constraint functions. The weights are found by solving an optimization sub‐problem to reduce the mass while maintaining feasibility of the buckling constraints. Most topology optimization problems are formulated as constrained optimization problems; thus, mathematical programming has been the mainstream. On the other hand, solving topology optimization problems using time evolution equations, seen in the level set‐based and the phase field‐based methods, is yet another approach. One issue is the treatment of multiple constraints, which is difficult to incorporate within time evolution equations. Another issue is the extra re‐initialization steps that interrupt the time integration from time to time. This paper proposes a way to describe, using a Heaviside projection‐based representation, a time‐dependent diffusion equation that addresses these two issues. The constraints are treated using a modified augmented Lagrangian approach in which the Lagrange multipliers are updated by simple ordinary differential equations. The proposed method is easy to implement using a high‐level finite element code. Also, it is very practical in the sense that one can fully utilize the existing framework of the code: GUI, parallelized solvers, animations, data imports/exports, and so on.
