The Bolu viaduct is a 2.3-km-long seismically isolated structure that was nearly complete when it was struck by the 1999 Duzce earthquake in Turkey. It suffered complete failure of the seismic isolation system and narrowly avoided total collapse due to excessive superstructure movement. This paper presents an evaluation of the design of the viaduct’s seismic isolation system and an assessment of its performance in the Duzce earthquake. Evaluation of the seismic isolation system’s design has revealed that it did not meet the requirements of the AASHTO Guide Specifications for Seismic Isolation Design. Analysis of the viaduct with motions scaled in accordance with the AASHTO Guide Specifications resulted in a displacement demand of 820 mm, which is far more than the 210 mm displacement capacity of the existing isolation system. Analysis of the viaduct for a simulated near-fault motion with characteristics consistent with the site conditions resulted in an isolation system displacement demand of 1,400 mm. This indicates that, even if the isolation system had been designed in compliance with the AASHTO, it would have still suffered damage in the earthquake. 相似文献

This paper describes an informal but systematic method for how to test and verify a knowledge-based system in a large open-ended medical target domain. The system used is Guardian, an intelligent system for monitoring and diagnosis of post-cardiac surgery patients in an intensive-care unit. The knowledge base is tested and verified by running the system on a series of realistic test scenarios, both with an embedded simulator and with an external simulation system. The same scenarios are presented to human test subjects, making it possible to compare and analyze the performance of the knowledge-based system with that of human physicians. The use of simulators instead of clinical data also means that it is possible to test crucial scenarios which occur seldom in medical practice. Our results show that a system like Guardian might indeed be useful in medical care. 相似文献

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allows the non-invasive obtention of diagnostic images, with no ionizing radiation emission and in any space plane. It has a great capacity to differentiate anatomic structures, and it is very useful for planning surgery or radiotherapy. It is the first choice diagnostic technique in conditions involving the central nervous system, useful for establishing diagnosis, surgery planning, and following lesions involving the spinal cord and spine. In the musculoskeletal system it may become and appropriate alternative to arthroscopy. Nevertheless, it is of limited use for the diagnosis of chest, abdominal and pelvic pathology. 相似文献

针对热工数据类型多,多数数据非线性强.相关图表查阅不便且读数误差大的现状,本文提出利用计算机强大的数据存储处理能力建立热工数据库系统,实现热工数据的快速准确查询,并介绍了热工数据库管理系统的功能特点及设计开发技术。将数据插值、神经网络等函数逼近的方法应用于查询程序的定制,大大加强了系统的查询功能,使系统的查询范围不仅仅局限于数据库中已有的数据记录.本文以饱和水及饱和蒸汽热力性质数据库为例,说明了系统查询功能的实现方法与效果。应用结果表明,热工数据库管理系统查询热工数据.速度快、精度高,不受人为因素影响,具有较大的实用价值。 相似文献

In a form of top-down analysis, the femur-tibia control system of stick insects is investigated. Open-loop experiments show that it is mainly velocity-sensitive with an extremely low velocity-threshold, that it possesses a very high gain and that it has only a very small phase reserve and thus works close to instability. The closed-loop system generates catalepsy. The system consists of a single sense organ with approximately 80 sense cells with known characteristics, a small number of interneurones (mainly non-spiking ones) and a small number of motor neurones. The characteristics of the whole system can quantitatively be attributed to the characteristics of its elements. The gain of the loop is state-dependent and the system is 'switched off' during active movements and replaced by a control system with different attributes. It is discussed that most of the characteristics of this system are, at least qualitatively, similar to joint control systems in other animals. Because the described system can be more easily investigated than other systems (especially in vertebrates) it can serve as a model against which more complicated joint control loops may be compared. 相似文献

Conclusions Existing data on the Mo-C system make it possible to construct a consistent system of models of thermodynamic properties of phases. To obtain satisfactory agreement between calculated phase equilibrium lines and experimental results, it is necessary to allow for the solubility of carbon in molybdenum.
