Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs) synthesized by radical polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) in the presence of PEO. The thermal characterizations of the semi‐IPNs were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). The melting temperature (Tm) of semi‐IPNs appeared at around 60°C using DSC. DEA was employed to ascertain the glass transition temperature (Tg) and determine the activation energy (Ea) of semi‐IPNs. From the results of DEA, semi‐IPNs exhibited one Tg indicating the presence of phase separation in the semi‐IPN, and Tgs of semi‐IPNs were observed with increasing PNIPAAm content. The thermal decomposition of semi‐IPNa was investigated using TGA and appeared at around 370°C. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 3922–3927, 2003  相似文献

A series of novel polyamides was prepared by low temperature solution polycondensation of N-(p/m-aminobenzoyl aminoacetyl)-N'-(4/3-aminobenzoyl) hydrazine with different diacid chlorides in dry N,N-Dimethylacetamide (DMAC). The properties of the polyamides for membrane processing were studied with the help of infrared spectra, inherent viscosity, differential thermal, and thermogravimetric analysis. The inherent viscosities were measured in concentrated sulfuric acid at 25±5°C and were in the range of 0.35–0.89 dL/g. The thermogravimetric data in air indicate that the initial decomposition temperature was in the range of 175–200°C. The polymer melt temperature (Tm) and glass transition temperature (Tg) were in the range of 230–450°C and 153.3–300°C, respectively.  相似文献

A novel poly(Schiff-base sulfide) polymer was synthesized by nucle-ophilic displacement polymerization of N,N'-bis(p-chlorobenzylidine)-4, 4'-diaminodiphenyl ether with sodium sulfide in anhydrous condition. The resulting polymer was soluble in some aprotic solvents having inherent viscosity of 0.18 dL/g in dimethylacetamide at 30°C. The monomer and the polymer were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, and 1H NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy. The thermal characteristics of the polymer were also studied by thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The temperature of 10% weight loss, glass transition temperature (T g). and crystalline melting point (T m) of the polymer were found to be 420, 91.89, and 38575°C respectively.  相似文献

Starch‐g‐polycaprolactone copolymers were prepared by two‐step reactions. The diisocyanate‐terminated polycaprolactone (NCO–PCL) was prepared by introducing NCO on both hydroxyl ends of PCL using diisocyanates (DI) at a molar ratio between PCL and DI of 2:3. Then, the NCO–PCL was grafted onto corn starch at a weight ratio between starch and NCO–PCL of 2:1. The chemical structure of NCO–PCL and the starch‐g‐PCL copolymers were confirmed by using FTIR and 13C‐NMR spectrometers, and then the thermal characteristics of the copolymers were investigated by DSC and TGA. By introducing NCO to PCL (Mn : 1250), the melting temperature (Tm ) was reduced from 58 to 45°C. In addition, by grafting the NCO–PCL (35–38%) prepared with 2,4‐tolylene diisocyanate (TDI) or 4,4‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) onto starch, the glass transition temperatures (Tg 's) of the copolymers were both 238°C. With hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), however, Tg was found to be 195°C. The initial thermal degradation temperature of the starch‐g‐PCL copolymers were higher than that of unreacted starch (320 versus 290°C) when MDI was used, whereas the copolymers prepared with TDI or HDI underwent little change. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) composed of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) were prepared by the sequential‐IPN method. The thermal characterization of the IPNs was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). Depression of the melting temperature (Tm) of the PVA segment in IPNs was observed with increasing PNIPAAm content using DSC. DEA was employed to ascertain the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of IPNs. From the result of DEA, IPNs exhibited two Tg values, indicating the presence of phase separation in the IPNs. The thermal decomposition of IPNs was investigated using TGA and appeared at near 200°C. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 881–885, 2003  相似文献

Polyurethane foams were prepared through co‐polymerization of non‐pretreated liquefied corn stover (LCS) and polymethylene polyphenylisocyanate (PAPI). The effects of [NCO]/[OH] ratio on the chemical structure and the thermal properties were studied by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The urethane linkages and the free isocyanate groups in co‐polymerization were detected from FT‐IR analysis. Thermal decomposition of polyurethane foams occurred in four main successive stages. With the increasing [NCO]/[OH] ratio, the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the initial decomposition temperature increased from −36.12 and 52.18 to 1.20 and 73.30°C, respectively. And the range of Tg expanded from 26.39 to 57.12°C.  相似文献

The thermal properties of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) conventional fibers and microfibers are measured and compared to bulk samples. It is shown that the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the fibers can be monitored with modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC). The Tg region is about 30°C wide and shifted to approximately 110°C for conventional as well as for micro‐PET fibers. The Tg of these fibers is compared to the Tg of cold‐crystallized bulk samples. Upon crystallization, a shift and even a split up of Tg is observed. The second Tg is much broader and is situated around 90°C. This Tg is related to the appearance of a rigid amorphous phase. In comparison, the mobility of the amorphous phase in fibers is even more restricted. The whole multiple melting profile observed on the fibers is the result of a continuous melting and recrystallization process, in contrast to bulk PET. The heat‐set temperature is shown to trigger the start of melting and recrystallization. It is seen in the MDSC as an exotherm in the nonreversing signal and an excess contribution in the heat‐capacity signal. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 89: 3840–3849, 2003  相似文献

A series of soy-based polyamides with different dimer acids and diamines were synthesized using a condensation polymerization technique. The molecular weight of polyamides prepared from 1,4-phenylenediamine increases greatly with a reaction temperature above 260°C. The physical properties of the polyamides, such as glass transition temperature (Tg), melting point (Tm), decomposition temperature (Td), crystalline behavior, and mechanical strength strongly depend on their molecular weight and flexibility of diamines used. The aromatic-based polyamides have a higher Tg, Tm, Td, and stronger mechanical strength than that of aliphatic-based polyamides. X-ray diffraction patterns of the samples indicate that all of the resins synthesized present a typical semicrystalline morphology. Polyamides made from hydrogenated dimer acid possess lower Tg and higher mechanical strength, compared with polyamides from unsaturated dimer acid with different dimer and trimer ratios. These results are analyzed and discussed in accordance with the influence of rigid aromatic segments and the microstructure of different dimer acids. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The thermal properties of a set of experimental aliphatic–aromatic polyamides containing ether linkages were examined as a function of their chemical structure. Variations of the glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) could be correlated with the length of the aliphatic spacers and with the orientation of the phenylene rings. Polymers with a high concentration of p-oriented phenylene units showed a higher Tg than those containing mainly m-oriented ones; Tg values ranged from 110 to 155°C. Surprisingly, a negligible dependence of Tgs on the nature of flexible spacers was observed. For all of the polymers, the thermal stability was virtually the same, about 440°C, when tested by dynamic thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). However, quite different levels of thermal stability were found by isothermal TGA analysis for polyamides with different flexible spacers. Moreover, the poly(ether-amide)s described here compare fairly well with wholly aromatic polyamides when measured by dynamic TGA; but isothermal TGA measurements clearly demonstrated that they decompose faster than aromatic polyamides. Treatment of the TGA curves by the method of McCallum provided kinetic data that confirmed a better long-term stability for poly(ether-amide)s with a higher proportion of para-oriented phenylene rings. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Three kinds of high‐molecular‐weight compatibilizers [copoly(1,4‐phenylene sulfide)‐poly(2,5‐phenylene sulfide amine)] (PPS‐NH2) containing different proportions of amino units in the side chain) were synthesized by the reaction of dihalogenated monomer and sodium sulfide via nucleophilic substitution polymerization under high pressure. The intrinsic viscosity of the obtained copolymers was 0.354–0.489 dL/g and they were found to have good thermal performance with melting point (Tm) of 271.3–281.0 °C and initial degradation temperature (Td) of 490.0–495.7 °C. There was an excellent physical compatibility between PPS‐NH2 and the pure industrial PPS. The results of dynamic mechanical analysis and macro‐ and micromechanical test showed that the selective compatibilizer PPS‐NH2 (1.0) (1.0% mol aminated ratio) can improve the mechanical and interfacial properties of polyphenylene sulfide/glass fiber (PPS/GF) composite. The macro‐optimal tensile strength, Young's modulus, bending strength, and notched impact strength of 5%PPS‐NH2 (1.0)/PPS/GF composite raised up to 141 MPa, 1.98 GPa, 203 MPa, and 6.15 kJ/m2, which increased 12.8%, 9.4%, 4.1%, and 13.8%, respectively, comparing with the pure PPS/GF composite (125 MPa, 1.81 GPa, 195 MPa, and 5.40 kJ/m2, respectively). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. • poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) polymers of different molecular weights were studied by DSC. Crystallization studies revealed that the ability of these polymers to crystallize decreases with increasing molecular weight. The Avrami equation poorly describes the isothermal crystallization of PPS. Lamellar crystallization was observed for the lowest molecular weight sample. For the other, higher molecular weight polymers the Avrami exponent is always between 2 and 3, suggesting development of distorted spherulites with heterogeneous nucleation. The temperature dependence of the solid and melt heat capacities have been determined. The solid specific heat capacity did not exhibit a molecular weight dependence. The heat capacity increase at the glass transition, Tg, has been calculated to be 28.1 J°C?1 mole?1. The equilibrium melting point of PPS has been estimated to be 348.5°C using the Hoffman–Weeks method. The Tg of PPS increases with molecular weight. The Tg of the highest molecular weight evaluated is 92.5°C. A DMA relaxation peak corresponding to the onset of the phenylene ring rotation occurs at ?92°C. Only the highest molecular weight could be quenched to a completely amorphous state.  相似文献

Different routes for preparing poly(aryl ether ketone)s (PEKKs) are presented and compared. The properties of PEKKs are related to the content of metaphenyl links in the molecular main chains, the molecular chain branching degree, the gelation content by molecular crosslinks, and, especially, the relative content of crystal form II to crystal form I of the PEKK polymorphism. When the molecular T/I ratio of 50/50 in the polymer chains is reached, the obtained PEKK has a lower melting point and gelation content (2% or so). The PEKKs prepared from the electronical substitution route (E route) often have a 0–30% content of crystal form II (relative to the mixed form I and form II), which is much more than that in PEKKs from the nucleophilic substitution route (N route, form II accounts for 0–20%). The relatively unstable crystal form II resulted in the unstable and difficultly predicted thermal properties of PEKKs. PEKKs from different routes provide samples with melting points from 360 to 397°C (Tm) and glassy transition temperatures (Tg) from 167 to 176°C and the equilibrium melting point of 411°C for para-PEKK, while the tensile strength of the homopolymer PEKK and copolymers of PEEKK (poly(aryl ether ether ketone ketone)–PEKK can reach 100 MPa prepared by the N route. The high Tg makes PEKK polymers practically useful while too high Tm and a very small difference between Tm and Td (degradation temperature) produce obstacles to its wide application. The reaction mechanisms of both electrophilic and nucleophilic routes are investigated and discussed in detail. Results show that the molecular chain branched by solvents and monomers with many activated points may be partly reduced to some extent by the oligomer and extruding route. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. High-molecular-weight poly(p-arylene sulfide ketone) (PPSK) was prepared by nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4,4’-diflurobenzophenone (DFBP) and sodium sulfide in the compound solvents of diphenyl sulfone (DPS) and 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMI) with catalysts under elevated temperature. The inherent viscosity (ηint) of the PPSK synthesized was 0.703 dl/g. PPSK was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. It was found that the polymer had excellent thermal properties: glass transition temperature (Tg) was 142.8 °C, melting temperature (Tm) was 362.3 °C. Under nitrogen atmosphere, 5 % (T5%) and 10 % (T10%) weight-loss temperatures were about 498.5 °C and 526.2 °C, respectively, while in the air the T5% and T10% were about 517 °C and 535.8 °C, respectively. The PPSK was found to be a semi-crystalline polymer, as confirmed by XRD. The polymer was insoluble in any solvent except concentrated sulfuric acid at room temperature. A series of the PPSK separating membranes were prepared by dissolving PPSK to concentrated sulfuric acid. The fluxes and the porosities of the separating membranes were in the range of 230–43 L/(m2?·?h) and 77.7-84.7 %, respectively. At the same time, these separating membranes showed moderate tensile strength of 1.02-1.88 MPa.  相似文献

Noncrosslinking linear low‐density polyethylene‐grafted acrylic acid (LLDPE‐g‐AA) was prepared by melt‐reactive extrusion in our laboratory. The thermal behavior of LLDPE‐g‐AA was investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Compared with neat linear low‐density polyethylene (LLDPE), melting temperature (Tm) of LLDPE‐g‐AA increased a little, the crystallization temperature (Tc) increased about 4°C, and the melting enthalpy (ΔHm) decreased with an increase in acrylic acid content. Isothermal crystallization kinetics of LLDPE and LLDPE‐g‐AA samples were carried out by using DSC. The overall crystallization rate of LLDPE was smaller than that of grafted samples. It showed that the grafted acrylic acid monomer onto LLDPE acted as a nucleating agent. Crystal morphologies of LLDPE‐g‐AA and LLDPE were examined by using SEM. Spherulite sizes of LLDPE‐g‐AA samples were lower than that of LLDPE. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 86: 2626–2630, 2002  相似文献

A series of phosphorus‐containing, wholly aromatic thermotropic copolyesters from acetylated 2‐(6‐oxide‐6H‐dibenz〈c,e〉〈1,2〉oxa phosphorin‐6‐yl)‐1,4‐dihydroxy phenylene, p‐acetoxybenzoic acid, terephthalic acid, and isophthalic acid were prepared by melting polycondensation. The structure and basic properties of the polymers, such as the glass‐transition temperature (Tg), melting temperature (Tm), thermal stability, crystallinity, and liquid crystallinity, were investigated with Fourier transform infrared, elemental analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and hot‐stage polarizing optical microscopy. The copolyesters had relatively high Tg values ranging from 183 to 192°C. The Tm values obtained from DSC curves for samples P‐20 and P‐25 were 290 and 287°C, respectively (where the number in the sample name indicates the molar fraction of the phosphorus‐containing monomer in the reactants). The initial flow temperatures of other samples observed with hot‐stage polarizing microscopy were 271–290°C. The 5% degradation temperatures in nitrogen ranged from 431 to 462°C, and the char yields at 640°C were 41–52%. All the copolyesters, except P‐40, were thermotropic and nematic. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 86: 1278–1284, 2002  相似文献

Films of regenerated Bombyx mori silk are strongly affected by absorbed moisture, a phenomenon studied here by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Exposure of previously dried films to environments of controlled relative humidity produces test samples of well-defined equilibrium moisture content. Ultimate moisture uptake is as high as 20–23% (by weight) at 75% relative humidity. The glass transition temperature, Tg, drops by 40°C at moisture uptakes as low as 2%, and Tg depressions as large as 140°C are observed at higher relative humidity. The moisture-induced decrease of Tg is completely reversible, as a film remoistened and then redried possesses an unchanged Tg. Trends in Tg with water uptake correspond reasonably well to predictions of a classical thermodynamic theory, indicating that the plasticization effect of moisture on the combined silk-water system can be satisfactorily explained from macroscopic properties of the constituents without any reference to specific interactions. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Segmented copolymers with telechelic poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene ether) (PPE) segments and crystallizable bisester tetra‐amide units (two‐and‐a‐half repeating unit of nylon‐6,T) were studied. The copolymers were synthesized by reacting bifunctional PPE with hydroxylic end groups with an average molecular weight of 3500 g/mol and bisester tetra‐amide units via an ester polycondensation reaction. The bisester tetra‐amide units had phenolic ester groups. By replacing part of the bisester tetra‐amide units with diphenyl terephthalate units (DPT), the concentration of tetra‐amide units in the copolymer was varied from 0 to 11 wt%. Polymers were also prepared from bifunctional PPE, DPT, and a diaminediamide (6T6‐diamine). The thermal and thermal mechanical properties were studied by DSC and DMA and compared with a copolymer with flexible spacer groups between the PPE and the T6T6T. The copolymers had a high Tg of 180–200°C and a melting temperature that increased with amide content of 220–265°C. The melting temperature was sharp with monodisperse amide segments. The TmTc was 39°C, which suggests a fast, but not very fast, crystallization. The crystallinity of the amide was ~ 20%. The copolymers are semicrystalline materials with a high Tg and a high Tg/Tm ratio (> 0.8). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 512–518, 2007  相似文献

In this work, a series of polysulfide polymers were synthesized using organic monomer (ethylene dichloride) and sodium-based aqueous monomers via interfacial polymerization. The structural characteristics of aqueous monomers and synthesized polysulfide polymers were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Raman, and ultraviolet–visible-near infrared (UV–VIS-NIR) spectroscopies. The Optimum temperature of polymerization was obtained at 75°C. Benzyltriethylammonium chloride (BTEACl) and tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) were used as phase transfer catalysts (PTC) where BTEACl showed better performance regarding the polymerization yield. Moreover, adding ethanol to polymerization media increased the polymerization yield significantly. The results showed that along with increasing sulfur in the structure of polymers, solubility and flexibility were increased whereas it decreased the hardness, melting point (Tm ) and glass transition temperature (Tg ) of obtained polymers.  相似文献

Thermal properties of conventional organic oligomers and organically modified ceramic hybrid materials (Ormoresin) were characterized and compared by using thermogravimetric techniques. Thermal properties were compared in terms of initial thermal decomposition temperature (T0, which is the temperature at which 5% weight loss occurred), the temperature at which 50% weight loss occurred (T50), and the percentage of residue remained at 600°C. Organically modified ceramic resins are found to have improved thermal stability. It is also found that the type of inorganic material incorporated in organically modified ceramics resin (Ormoresin) has considerable influence on its thermal characteristics. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels composed of polyallylamine and chitosan were synthesized by radical polymerization using 2,2‐dimethyl‐2‐ phenylacetophenone (DMPAP) and methylene bisacrylicamide (MBAAm) as initiator and crosslinker, respectively. The IPNs thus obtained were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). The melting temperatures of IPNs were observed with increasing chitosan content by DSC. DEA was employed to ascertain the glass transition temperature (Tg) of IPNs. From the result of DEA, IPNs exhibited two Tgs indicating the presence of phase separation in the IPN.
