In this paper, the nonlinear behavior of symmetric and antisymmetric cross ply, thin to moderately thick, elastic rectangular laminated plates resting on nonlinear elastic foundations are studied using differential quadrature method (DQM). The first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) in conjunction with the Green’s strain and von Karman hypothesis are assumed for modeling the nonlinear behavior. Elastic foundation is modeled as shear deformable with cubic nonlinearity. The differential quadrature (DQ) discretized form of the governing equations with the various types of boundary conditions are derived. The Newton–Raphson iterative scheme is employed to solve the resulting system of nonlinear algebraic equations. Comparisons are made and the convergence studies are performed to show the accuracy of the results even with a few number of grid points. The effects of thickness-to-length ratio, aspect ratio, number of plies, fiber orientation and staking sequence on the nonlinear behavior of cross ply laminated plates with different boundary conditions resting on elastic foundations are studied.  相似文献

In this paper, large deflection analysis of laminated composite plates is analysed. Nonlinear governing equation for bending based on first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) in the von Karman sense is presented. These equations have been solved by the method of discrete singular convolution (DSC). Regularized Shannon’s delta (RSD) kernel and Lagrange delta sequence (LDS) kernel are selected as singular convolution to illustrate the present algorithm. The effects of plate aspect ratio, fiber orientation, boundary conditions, thickness-to-side ratio, and applied load on the nonlinear static response of the laminated plate are investigated.  相似文献

The vibration responses of orthotropic plates on nonlinear elastic foundations are numerically modeled using the differential quadrature method. The differential quadrature technique is utilized to transform partial differential equations into a discrete eigenvalue problem. Numerical results and those from literature closely correspond to each other. Numerical results demonstrate that elastically restrained stiffness, plate aspect ratio and foundation stiffness significantly impact the dynamic behavior of orthotropic plates.  相似文献

The free vibration characteristics of rectangular continuous grading fiber reinforced (CGFR) plates resting on elastic foundations have been studied, based on the three-dimensional, linear and small strain elasticity theory. The foundation is described by the Pasternak or two-parameter model. The CGFR plate is simply supported at the edges and is assumed to have an arbitrary variation of fiber volume fraction in the thickness direction. Suitable displacement functions that identically satisfy the simply supported boundary conditions are used to reduce the equilibrium equations to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients, which can be solved by differential quadrature method (DQM) to obtain natural frequencies. Convergence studies have been performed on CGFR plates on the elastic foundations. It is shown that the present method has a rapid convergent rate, stable numerical operation and very high accuracy. Besides results for CGFR plate with arbitrary variation of fiber volume fraction in the plate’s thickness are compared with discrete laminated composite plate. The main contribution of this work is to present useful results for continuous grading of fiber reinforcement in the thickness direction of a plate on elastic foundation and comparison with similar discrete laminate composite plate. Results indicate the advantages of using CGFR plate with graded fiber volume fractions over traditional discretely laminated plates.  相似文献

The effects of three-parameter elastic foundations and thermo-mechanical loading on axisymmetric large deflection response of a simply supported annular FGM plate are investigated. An annular FGM plate, resting on a three-parameter elastic foundation under a transverse uniform loading and a transverse non-uniform temperature, is considered. The mechanical and thermal properties of the FGM plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The mathematical modeling of the plate and the resulting nonlinear governing equations of equilibrium are derived based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) in conjunction with nonlinear von Karman assumptions. A polynomial-based differential quadrature method is used as a simple but powerful numerical technique to discretize the nonlinear governing equations and to implement the boundary conditions. Finally, the effects of certain parameters, such as nonlinear foundations stiffness, volume fraction index, and temperature, on the axisymmetric large deflection response of the FGM plate are obtained and discussed in detail.  相似文献

Early studies on annular sector plate vibrations were focused on two-dimensional theories, such as the classical plate theory and the first- and the higher-order shear deformation plate theories. These plate theories neglect transverse normal deformations and generally assume that a plane stress state of deformation prevails in the plate. These assumptions may be appropriate for thin plates. In this paper, free vibration of thick functionally graded annular sector plates with simply supported radial edges on a two-parameter elastic foundation, based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity, using differential quadrature method for different circular edge conditions including simply supported-clamped, clamped–clamped, and free-clamped is investigated. A semi-analytical approach composed of differential quadrature method and series solution is adopted to solve the equations of motion. The material properties change continuously through the thickness of the plate, which can vary according to a power law, exponentially, or any other formulations in this direction. Some new results for the natural frequencies of the plate are prepared, which include the effects of elastic coefficients of foundation, boundary conditions, material and geometrical parameters. The new results can be used as benchmark solutions for future research.  相似文献

A consistent formulation for the bending of cross-ply laminated composite plates that possess non-homogeneous elastic properties is presented. Based on a third-order shear deformation plate theory, the governing equations are obtained using the principle of virtual work. With the help of the small parameter method, a wide variety of results are presented for the symmetric and antisymmetric analysis of non-homogeneous rectangular laminated plates. The influence of non-homogeneity, lamination schemes, aspect ratio and material anisotropy on the deflections and stresses is investigated. The new results for non-homogeneous response of composite plates should serve as bench marks for future comparisons.  相似文献

The paper presents the nonlinear flexural response of laminated composite plates. The mathematical formulation of the actual physical problem of the laminated composite plate subjected to mechanical loading is presented utilizing higher order shear deformation theory and von-Karman nonlinear kinematics. These nonlinear governing differential equations of equilibrium are linearized using quadratic extrapolation technique. A meshfree technique based on multiquadric RBFs is used for analysis of the problems. Isotropic, orthotropic and laminated composite plates with immovable simply supported and clamped edges are analyzed.  相似文献

Vibration analysis of a functionally graded rectangular plate resting on two parameter elastic foundation is presented here. The displacement filed based on the third order shear deformation plate theory is used. By considering the in-plane displacement components of an arbitrary material point on the mid-plane of the plate and using Hamilton’s principle, the governing equations of motion are obtained which are five highly coupled partial differential equations. An analytical approach is employed to decouple these partial differential equations. The decoupled equations of functionally graded rectangular plate resting on elastic foundation are solved analytically for levy type of boundary conditions. The numerical results are presented and discussed for a wide range of plate and foundation parameters. The results show that the Pasternak (shear) elastic foundation drastically changes the natural frequency. It is also observed that in some boundary conditions, the in-plane displacements have significant effects on natural frequency of thick functionally graded plates and they cannot be ignored.  相似文献

In this paper, three dimensional (3D) static and dynamic analysis of thick functionally graded plates based on the Meshless Local Petrov–Galerkin (MLPG) is presented. Using the kinematics of a three-dimensional continuum, the local weak form of the equilibrium equations is derived. A weak formulation for the set of governing equations is transformed into local integral equations on local sub-domains using a Heaviside step function as test function. In this case, governing equations corresponding to the stiffness matrix do not involve any domain integration or singular integrals. Nodal points are distributed in the 3D analyzed domain and each node is surrounded by a cubic sub-domain to which a local integral equation is applied. The meshless approximation based on the three-dimensional Moving Least-Square (MLS) is employed as shape function to approximate the field variable of scattered nodes in the problem domain. The Newmark time integration method is used to solve the system of coupled second-order ODEs. Effective material properties of the plate, made of two isotropic constituents with volume fractions varying only in the thickness direction, are computed using the Mori–Tanaka homogenization technique. Numerical examples for solving the static and dynamic response of elastic thick functionally graded plates are demonstrated. As a result, the distributions of the deflection and stresses through the plate thickness are presented for different material gradients and boundary conditions. The effects of the volume fractions of the constituents on the centroidal deflection are also investigated. The numerical efficiency of the proposed meshless method is illustrated by the comparison of results obtained from previous literatures.  相似文献

Exact solutions for functionally graded thick plates are presented based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity. The plate is assumed isotropic at any point, while material properties to vary exponentially through the thickness. The system of governing partial differential equations is reduced to an ordinary one about the thickness coordinate by expanding the state variables into infinite dual series of trigonometric functions. Interactions between the Winkler–Pasternak elastic foundation and the plate are treated as boundary conditions. The problem is finally solved using the state space method. Effects of stiffness of the foundation, loading cases, and gradient index on mechanical responses of the plates are discussed. It is established that elastic foundations affects significantly the mechanical behavior of functionally graded thick plates. Numerical results presented in the paper can serve as benchmarks for future analyses of functionally graded thick plates on elastic foundations.  相似文献

In this article, an exact analytical solution for stability analysis of vertical moderately thick laminated rectangular plates subjected to selfweight and top load on the basis of the first-order shear deformation plate theory is presented. It is assumed that the symmetric laminated rectangular plate is composed of transversely isotropic layers. Employing an analytical approach, the coupled governing stability equations of the laminated plate are converted into two uncoupled partial differential equations in terms of transverse displacement and an auxiliary function. It is considered that the vertical sides of the laminated plate are simply supported. Using Levy-type solution, the decoupled equations are reduced to two ordinary differential equations. One of these equations has variable coefficients, for which an exact analytical solution is obtained in the form of power series method of Frobenius. After appropriate convergence study, the present analysis is validated by comparing the results with the existing data reported in the literature. Furthermore, the effects of aspect ratio, plate thickness, boundary conditions, weight of plate and top load on the stability of laminated rectangular plates are investigated and discussed in details. The presented formulations and results can be used as benchmark for future research studies.  相似文献

The present study investigates the elastic stability of skew laminated composite plates subjected to biaxial inplane follower forces by the finite element method. The plate is assumed to follow first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDPT). The kinetic and strain energies of skew laminated composite plate and the work done by the biaxial inplane follower forces are derived by using tensor theory. Then, by Hamilton's principle, the dynamic mathematical model to describe the free vibration of this problem is formed. The finite element method and the isoparametric element are utilized to discretize the continuous system and to obtain the characteristic equations of the present problem. Finally, natural vibration frequencies, buckling loads (also the instability types) and their corresponding mode shapes are found by solving the characteristic equations. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effects of those parameters, such as various inplane force combinations, skew angle and lamination scheme, on the elastic stability of skew laminated composite plates subjected to biaxial inplane follower forces.  相似文献

This article studies nonlinear dynamic stability of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) plates resting on an elastic foundation. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are aligned and distributed in the form of uniformly distributed (UD) and functionally graded (FG) reinforcements. The governing equations are established based on classic plate theory, which is converted to a Mathieu-type equation by using a two-step perturbation technique, and then solved by adopting an incremental harmonic balanced (IHB) method. In numerical results, the effects of nonlinear geometric factor, distribution and fraction volume of CNTs, and foundation stiffness on principle dynamic unstable regions are discussed.  相似文献

Based on the Schapery’s 3-D constitutive relationship and the Von Karman’s plate theory, the constitutive equations and the nonlinear dynamic governing equations for viscoelastic symmetric cross-ply laminated plates with transverse matrix cracks are derived. By using the finite difference method and Newmark-β scheme, the unknown functions are separated and these equations are iterated to seek solutions. Numerical calculating results show that the effect of damage on the nonlinear dynamic responses of structures is significant.  相似文献

A meshless local Petrov–Galerkin (MLPG) method is applied to solve static and dynamic problems of orthotropic plates described by the Reissner–Mindlin theory. Analysis of a thick orthotropic plate resting on the Winkler elastic foundation is given too. A weak formulation for the set of governing equations in the Reissner–Mindlin theory with a unit test function is transformed into local integral equations on local subdomains in the mean surface of the plate. Nodal points are randomly spread on the surface of the plate and each node is surrounded by a circular subdomain to which local integral equations are applied. The meshless approximation based on the Moving Least–Squares (MLS) method is employed in the numerical implementation. The present computational method is applicable also to plates with varying thickness. Numerical results for simply supported and clamped plates are presented.
