Pea (Acyrthosiphon pisum Harris) and blue alfalfa aphid (A. kondoi Shinji) deterrency in alfalfa (Medicago saliva L.) may result from incorporating higher levels of the aphid alarm pheromone,(E)--farnesene relative to(E)--caryophyllene. We evaluated five eglandular and two glandular-haired alfalfa accessions for differences in(E)--farnesene and(E)--caryophyllene content under glasshouse conditions using supercritical fluid extraction and gas chromatography. In addition, pea and blue alfalfa aphid olfactory behavioral tests were conducted uponMedicago species containing different ratios of(E)--famesene relative to(E)--caryophyllene. No differences in(E)--caryophyllene content were observed among the seven entries (=0.42 ng/g plant material). Significant differences (P 0.05) among entries were observed for(E)--famesene content, with KS94GH6 exhibiting the highest (1.18 ng/g), and CUF 101 the lowest levels (0.35 ng/g). Elite tetraploid sources possessed significantly lower levels (=0.42 ng/g) of(E)--farnesene than did wild and cultivated diploid accessions (=0.83 ng/g). Olfactory behavioral tests for both the pea and blue alfalfa aphids demonstrated KS94GH6 repelled aphids while cultivated alfalfa types attracted aphids in each case. Previously demonstrated aphid resistance in diploid KS94GH6 may result from superior(E)-- farnesene levels, but(E)--farnesene is probably not a factor in cultivated alfalfa resistance. Finally, accession KS94GH6 could act as an excellent germplasm resource for the incorporation of higher(E)--farnesene levels into cultivated alfalfa.Research supported by the New Mexico State University Agricultural Experiment Station.  相似文献

Salvia leucophylla, a shrub observed in coastal south California, produces several volatile monoterpenoids (camphor, 1,8-cineole, -pinene, -pinene, and camphene) that potentially act as allelochemicals. The effects of these were examined using Brassica campestris as the test plant. Camphor, 1,8-cineole, and -pinene inhibited germination of B. campestris seeds at high concentrations, whereas -pinene and camphene did not. Root growth was inhibited by all five monoterpenoids in a dose-dependent manner, but hypocotyl growth was largely unaffected. The monoterpenoids did not alter the sizes of matured cells in either hypocotyls or roots, indicating that cell expansion is relatively insensitive to these compounds. They did not decrease the mitotic index in the shoot apical region, but specifically lowered mitotic index in the root apical meristem. Moreover, morphological and biochemical analyses on the incorporation of 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine into DNA demonstrated that the monoterpenoids inhibit both cell-nuclear and organelle DNA synthesis in the root apical meristem. These results suggest that the monoterpenoids produced by S. leucophylla could interfere with the growth of other plants in its vicinity through inhibition of cell proliferation in the root apical meristem.  相似文献

(E)-12-Tetradecenyl acetate (E12–14OAc), (Z)-12-tetradecenyl acetate (Z12–143nOAc), and tetradecanyl acetate (14OAc) were extracted and identified as major chemical components from female tips of the Asian corn borer,Ostrinia furnacalis (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in Taiwan, with a combined wash ratio of 483715 and an individual female ratio of 453916. The average amount ofE12-,Z12–14OAc and 14OAc in each female gland was 6.6±4.6, 5.8±3.5, and 2.4±1.7 ng/female, respectively. The mixture of these three synthetic chemicals not only gave strong activities in male antennae but also could catch significantly more males than virgin females in field-trapping tests. The field test also showed no significant difference in trapping ability among the three-component Taiwan formulations, the two-component Taiwan formulation (Z12–14OAc andZ1214OAc, 5347), and the Japan formulation (Z12–14 OAc andE 12–14OAc, 3:2).  相似文献

The chelating interaction between metal ions and 4,4-disubstituted-2,2-bipyridyl-containing high-performance polymeric ligands prepared from 2,2-bipyridyl-4,4-dicarboxylic acid and a series of primary aromatic diamines was investigated by optical spectroscopy. Optical spectroscopic studies of the chelation of ruthenium ions by the 2,2-bipyridyl-containing polyamides revealed the formation of distinct ruthenium(II) complexes [RuII(poly)L4] ( max=530 nm), [RuII(poly)2L2] ( max=584 nm), and [RuII(poly)3]2+ ( max=476 nm), while iron(II) ions formed only one complex ( max=569 nm). The diverse functional features of the polymer repeat unit directly influences the chelation of metal ions.  相似文献

Two novel steroids, 3,7-dihydroxy-14-pregn-4-en-15,20-dione (1) and 3,7, 20-trihydroxy-14-pregn-4-en-15-one (4), have been characterized from the rectal gland ofSilpha novaboracensis (Coleoptera: Silphidae). The reaction of CpCo(PPh3)2, in which Cp= 5-cyclopentadienyl, with a -conjugated diacetylene, FcCC–o-C6H4–CCFc, in which Fc=ferrocenyl, was found to give a cyclobutadienecobalt mononuclear complex, { 4-C4Fc2(o-FcC6H4)2}CoCp (1), the crystal structure of which was determined by X-ray crystallography. In contrast, the reaction of CpCo(PPh3)2 with FcCC–p-C6H4–CCFc affords a cyclobutadienecobalt polymer, [p-C6H4( 4-C4Fc2)CoCp] n (2). The monocobalt complex 1 shows reversible 1e and 3e redox waves at E 0=0.116 and 0.350 V vs Ag/Ag+, and the polymer complex 2 shows two chemically reversible redox waves at E 0=0.143 and 0.219 V for the oxidation of the ferrocenyl moieties in the cyclic voltammogram. Platinum catalyst supported on a medium surface area -SiC was successfully used for the catalytic combustion of model carbon particles and compared to a catalyst supported on a low surface area -SiC. The -SiC-based catalyst showed no deactivation as a function of cycling tests while a strong deactivation was observed on the -SiC-based catalyst. This deactivation was attributed to the progressive encapsulation of the platinum particles by a layer of silica which built up during the combustion cycle. These results render possible the use of Pt/-SiC catalyst as a diesel carbon particle catalytic filter with continuous regeneration.  相似文献

The enantioselective hydrogenation of ethyl pyruvate to (S)-ethyl lactate over cinchonine- and -isocinchonine-modified Pt/Al2O3 catalysts was studied as a function of modifier concentration and reaction temperature. The maximum enantioselectivities obtained under the applied mild conditions were 89% ee using cinchonine (0.014 mmoldm–3, 1 bar H2, 23°C, 6% AcOH in toluene), and 76% ee in the case of -isocinchonine (0.14 mmoldm–3, 1 bar H2, –10°C, 6% AcOH in toluene). Since -isocinchonine of rigid structure exists only in anti-open conformation these data provide additional experimental evidence to support the former suggestion concerning the dominating role of anti-open conformation in these cinchona-modified enantioselective hydrogenations.  相似文献

Soldiers of free-ranging termites of the genusLacessititermes (Isoptera, Nasutitermitinae) secrete from their frontal glands a mixture of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes.Lacessititermes ransoneti, L. laborator, andL. species A produce species-specific secretions, the composition being most complex forL. laborator. Apart from known mono- and dihydroxytrinervitadienes, the following new diterpenes were isolated and tentatively assigned as trinervita-1(15),8(19)-dien-2,3,9,14-tetraol 2,3,14-O-triacetate, trinervita-1(15),8(19)-dien-2,3,9,14-tetraol 2,3,14-O-triacetate, 2,3,9, 14-tetraacetoxy-1 (15), 8(19)-trinervitadiene, and 2,3,11,13-tetraacetoxy-1(15),8(19)-trinervitadiene. Data on intragenus chemical variations were subjected to canonical discriminant analysis and genetic distances among the species were calculated to depict intragenus identities and affinities.  相似文献

Aldehyde components of lepidopterous pheromones are converted to carboxylic acids by aldehyde oxidizing enzymes (AOEs) that are present at high levels in antennal tissues of adult moths. The AOEs may include O2-requiring aldehyde oxidases as well as nucleotide-cofactor-requiring aldehyde dehydrogenases. Three classes of inhibitors were synthesized and examined in vitro for AOE inhibition usingHeliothis virescens antennae: (1) cyclopropanols, (2) -fluorinated aldehydes, and (3) ,-unsaturated carbonyls. First, cyclopropanated analogs of (Z)-11-hexadecenal (Z11–16A1), a common unsaturated aldehyde component of many species' pheromone blends, were synthesized as isosteric pheromone analogs and as potential inhibitors of the moth AOEs. NMR assignments are reported for thecis- andtrans-cyclopropanols. Cyclopropanols appear to act as oxidase-activated AOE inhibitors, perhaps via the unstable cyclopropanones. Second, -fluoro and ,-difluoro substituted analogs ofZ9–14A1 were synthesized and shown to be modest inhibitors of both the alcohol oxidase and AOE activities. Finally, the most potent inhibitors were ,-unsaturated carbonyl mimics of theZ11–16A1. The -methylene aldehyde was 1000-fold less effective than the vinyl ketoneZ1,11–163-oxo. This inhibition appears irreversible and is postulated to involve electrophilic modification of an active site sulfur nucleophile.Presented at a symposium in honor of Dr. James H. Chemical defense in larvae of the plant bugHotea gambiae has been investigated. Results of analyses (GC, GC-MS) on the secretions from the three dorsally situated larval abdominal defense (scent) glands are reported. The secretion from the first abdominal gland consists of a mixture of C10 and C15 isoprenoids: (C10) -pinene, -pinene, limonene, -phellandrene; (C15) -caryophyllene, caryophyllene oxide, -humulene, and (the major component) humulene epoxide II. The secretions from the second and third abdominal glands are similar mixtures consisting of (E)-2-decenal, (E)-4-oxohex-2-enal, andn-tridecane together with lesser amounts of (E)-2-hexenal,n-dodecane, and other materials. Isoprenoid defense is now known from four species of plant bugs (Heteroptera) associated with Malvaceae.  相似文献

The electrodeposition of -nickel hydroxide is promoted by the simultaneous chemical corrosion of the electrode by an acidic nitrate bath. Chemical corrosion results in the formation of a poorly ordered layered phase which is structurally similar to -nickel hydroxide and provides nucleation sites for the deposition of the latter. Therefore under conditions which enhance corrosion rates such as low current density (<1.3 mA cm–2), high temperature (60 C), high nickel nitrate concentration ( 1M) and the resultant low pH (1.7), -nickel hydroxide electrodeposition is observed, while -nickel hydroxide forms under other conditions. Further, -nickel hydroxide deposition is more facile on an iron electrode compared to nickel or platinum.  相似文献

Protonated pyridine (PyH+) was not found on ZrO2 (Z) or ZrO2–TiO2 (ZT), but was detected on sulfated oxides (ZS, ZTS) by IR spectroscopy. In contrast, ZrO2–SiO2 samples containing about 30–80 mol% ZrO2 showed Brønsted acidity both in nonsulfated (ZS) and sulfated (ZSS) forms. The total acidity was determined by NH3TPD. Introduction of sulfate ions increased the sitespecific catalytic activity (TOF) in the conversion of cyclopropane or nhexane. The effect of sulfate ions was more significant on samples rich in zirconia. Results suggest that Zr is homogeneously distributed in ZS samples rich in silica. Zirconiabound dimeric sulfate, generating strong acidity, could not be formed in these preparations due to the absence of fairly large ZrO2 domains.  相似文献

Coatings containing WC1-x and W2C1-x tungsten carbides were produced on titanium targets by a shapedcharge explosion. The experiment used conical liners with a cone angle of 30° manufactured from a mixture of fine powders of tungsten, graphite, and ammonium nitrate. A comparative quantitative xray analysis of the top and bottom layers of the coating was performed. For the phase WC1-x in the bottom layer, the value of the cubic unit cell parameter falls outside the range known in the literature. Parameters which affect the electrosynthesis of 4,4-dinitroazobenzene from p-nitroaniline on platinum and PbO2 electrodes were investigated and optimum conditions were determined. Maximum conversion efficiency for electrosynthesis was 95% with a pure -PbO2 electrode. It was found that the electrocatalytic activity of a PbO2 electrode depends upon its / ratio and its degree of crystallinity. The effects of the added base and water on the conversion efficiency were also elucidated.  相似文献

The formation of macropores on anodically biased n-type silicon with backside-illumination was investigated as a function of crystal orientation and bias voltage. Specimens were cut from bulk crystals with various orientations from {100} to {111}, polished and subjected to anodic etching in HF. The resulting pores were investigated on cleaved samples by SEM. All pores were found to grow in either a 100 direction or a 113 direction, depending on the misorientation angle. This finding applies also to the branching of a single pore. The results can be understood if the valence for the dissolution reaction is approximately 2.6 in 100 and approximately 4 in the 113 direction, and if all other directions are not allowed for the growth of pores in Si.  相似文献

Two sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, -copaene and -ylangene, were isolated from bioactive fractions of angelica seed oil and were shown by field bioassays to be attractive to the male Mediterranean fruit fly. Their relative attractiveness, compared with the(+)-and (–)--copaene enantiomers, are: (+)--copaene>angelica -copaene>angelica -ylangene>(–)--copaene. The enantiomer ratios for the two compounds are: -copaene, 61.4% (+), 38.6% (–); -ylangene, 91.9% (+), 8.1% (–).trans--Bergamotene was also isolated from the same fractions, but in sufficient quantity for bioassay [enantiomer ratio: 95.7% (+), 4.3% (–)].  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of rate of fertilizer application and method of application on the rate of nutrient release and growth of Savannah holly (Ilex ×attenuata Ashe) using three controlled release fertilizers. The controlled release fertilizers used were Osmocote 17N—3P—9.9K, Sierrablen 17N—3P—8.3K, and High-N 24N—1.7P—5.8K, all 12 to 14 month formulations. The three fertilizers had different release rates as determined by leachate nitrate—N and electrical conductivity (EC) measurements. Topdressing of fertilizer had the greatest release rate at seven days after treatment compared to fertilizer incorporation which had the lowest EC readings at 120 days after treatment. Fertilizer source had no effect on the shoot growth of Savannah holly. Growth index and shoot dry weight of Savannah holly increased linearly as N rate increased from 0.9 to 2.1 kg N m–3. A significant linear relationship (R2 = 0.97, Nitrate—N = 409 (EC)) between nitrate—N and EC indicates that nitrate—N concentration can be estimated from EC readings when the pour-through method is used with multicoated controlled release fertilizers. The controlled release fertilizers used in this study provided adequate nutrient release rates for up to four months under outdoor nursery conditions during the months of June through October.  相似文献

Isolation and characterization of B,D-seco limonoids from Swietenia mahogani have been described. Seven limonoids from S. mahogani and five limonoids from Khaya senegalensis were tested for antifungal activity against the groundnut rust Puccinia arachidis. Mexicanolide, 3-acetoxy-mexicanolide, 3-hydroxymexicanolide, 2,3-dihydroxymexicanolide from K. senegalensis, and 6-acetylswietenine and 6-acetyl-3-tigloylswietenolide from S. mahogani effectively reduced the number of rust pustules on detached groundnut leaves. Possible correlation of structure to antifungal activity is discussed.  相似文献

The lacewing Chrysopa cognata, one of the principal predators of aphids in Korea, was tested for responses to the aphid sex pheromone components (4aS,7S,7aR)-nepetalactone and (1R,4aS,7S,7aR)-nepetalactol and the aphid alarm pheromone (E)--farnesene. Electroantennogram responses were obtained to the sex pheromone components but not to (E)--farnesene. The sex pheromone components were attractive in a Y-tube olfactometer assay and in field trials with water traps, but no attraction was observed to (E)--farnesene.  相似文献
