Video streaming over wireless networks is becoming increasingly important for a variety of applications. To accommodate the dynamic change of wireless network bandwidths, Quality of Service (QoS) scalable video streams need to be provided. This paper presents a system of content-adaptive streaming of instructional (lecture) videos over wireless networks for E-learning applications. We first provide a real-time content analysis method to detect and extract content regions from instructional videos, then apply a “leaking-video-buffer” model to adjust QoS of video streams dynamically based on video content. In content-adaptive video streaming, an adaptive feedback control scheme is also developed to transmit properly compressed video streams to video clients not only based on network bandwidth, but also based on video content and the preferences of users. Finally, we demonstrate the scalability and content adaptiveness of the proposed video streaming system with experimental results on several instructional videos.  相似文献

针对不同无线环境(3G、WiFi)下获取用户体验质量(Quality of Experience,QoE)数据困难和不精确的问题,提出一种基于安卓(Android)移动终端视频业务QoE的自适应测量方法.通过实时测量并评估用户在线视频业务体验质量,提高用户体验质量评价的准确性和实用性.为此开发了能自动测量视频QoE的工具,测量服务质量(Quality of Service,QoS)客观参数,通过效用函数映射到主观QoE(MOS值).通过对理论QoE评价模型(取自文献)与用户实际反馈相关性研究改进理论模型.结果表明,无线环境下改进的模型测量结果更接近用户实际反馈,可以更好地评价QoE.  相似文献

针对宽带IPTV视频源向移动网络和移动终端提供视频服务需要解决的视频转码问题,设计开发以软件方式实现的实时视频转码系统,可将MPEG-4格式的高码率、高分辨率节目源实时转换为适合移动网络和移动终端的低码率、低分辨率视频。在误差补偿转码框架的基础上,提出一种自适应的转码时延保证方法,解决了转码计算复杂性和转码质量均衡的关键技术问题,保证了转码系统的实时性。测试结果表明,实现的转码系统视频转换质量损失少、实时性高。  相似文献

Recently using Scalable Video Coding (SVC) in Dynamic Adaptive Streaming of over HTTP (DASH) has attracted more and more attention. In this paper, we present a Quality-of-Experience (QoE) driven Cross-Layer Scheme (QCLS) for DASH-based scalable video transmission over LTE. Specifically, assuming the priority-based extraction be exploited for bitstream adaption, we first propose a new continuous Rate-Distortion (RD) model for scalable video stream. Then to guarantee continuous playback, a two-level rate adaption algorithm is presented: a novel throughput-based algorithm is implemented for dynamic selection of segment bitrate on the DASH client side at the first level, and the second level applies the rate adaption by designing a suitable packet scheduling strategy at the Base Station. The packets of each segment with lower priority that are still left in the packet queues when their playback deadline is missed, would be considered as the ones that are beyond the actual transmission ability and discarded by the second-level rate adaption. Furthermore, in order to reasonably utilize the wireless resources in LTE (Long-Term Evolution) system, a cross-layer optimization problem that maximizes the total weighted received quality of the currently transmitted segments for all clients is formulated. In view of its high complexity of obtaining the optimal solution, we develop an approach of the suboptimal solution, which can determine a locally optimal transmission strategy in resource allocation as well as the corresponding Modulation and Coding Scheme. Accordingly, the transmission rate of each client can be obtained. Simulation results show that our proposed cross-layer scheme can provide better performance than the existing ones for DASH-based scalable video transmission over LTE.  相似文献

As a result of improvements in wireless communication technologies, a multimedia data streaming service can now be provided for mobile clients. Since mobile devices have low computing power and work on a low network bandwidth, a transcoding technology is needed to adapt the original streaming media for mobile environments. However, wireless networks have variable bandwidths depending on the movement of clients and the communication distance from Access Point (AP). These characteristics make it hard to support stable Quality of Service (QoS) streams for mobile clients. In this paper, a target transcoding bit-rate decision algorithm is proposed to provide stable QoS streams for mobile clients. In our experiments, the proposed algorithm provides seamless streaming media services based on the network adaptive bit rate control and reduces transmission failure.  相似文献

A significant issue in Mesh networks is to support multimedia transmissions while providing Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees to mobile users. For real-time multimedia streaming, unstable throughput or insufficient bandwidth will incur unexpected delay or jitter, and it remains difficult to provide comprehensive service guarantees for a wireless mesh environment. In this paper, we target the problem of providing multimedia QoS in wireless mesh networks. We design and implement a campus test-bed for supporting multimedia traffic in mobile wireless mesh networks, and investigate in detail some possible improvements on a number of layers to enable multimedia transmission over wireless networks with QoS support. We first study a number of improvements of some existing routing protocols to support multimedia transmissions. Some new admission control and rate control mechanisms are studied and their performance gains are verified in our experiments. In our new cross-layer adaptive rate control (CLARC) mechanism, we adaptively change the video encoder’s output bit rate based on the available network bandwidth to improve the quality of the received video. We also design a mobile gateway protocol to connect the MANET to Internet and a wireless LAN management protocol to automatically manage WLAN to provide some QoS.  相似文献

Media delivery, especially video delivery over mobile channels may be affected by transmission bitrate variations or temporary link interruptions caused by changes in the channel conditions or the wireless interface. In this paper, we present the use of Priority-based Media Delivery (PMD) for Scalable Video Coding (SVC) to overcome link interruptions and channel bitrate reductions in mobile networks by performing a transmission scheduling algorithm that prioritizes media data according to its importance. The proposed approach comprises a priority-based media pre-buffer to overcome periods under reduced connectivity. The PMD algorithm aims to use the same transmission bitrate and overall buffer size as the traditional streaming approach, yet is more likely to overcome interruptions and reduced bitrate periods. PMD achieves longer continuous playback than the traditional approach, avoiding disruptions in the video playout and therefore improving the video playback quality. We analyze the use of SVC with PMD in the traditional RTP streaming and in the adaptive HTTP streaming context. We show benefits of using SVC in terms of received quality during interruption and re-buffering time, i.e. the time required to fill a desired pre-buffer at the receiver. We present a quality optimization approach for PMD and show results for different interruption/bitrate-reduction scenarios.  相似文献

Providing real-time Internet video streaming anytime, anywhere and using any devices from different access networks preserves more challenges to equilibrate the quality of service (QoS) and security protection (QoP). Because encryption/decryption for video packets are time-consuming processes to protect real-time video streaming services from eavesdropping, our observation is that the playback buffer occupancy (PBO) can simply indicate time availability to adjust security level to affect the packet sending rate. In this paper, we present an end-to-end buffer-aware feedback control from client PBO for effectively securing media streaming for heterogeneous clients over ubiquitous Internet. That is, security-level adjustments can be applied further to keep PBO running away from overflow and underflow to pursue an effective leverage between QoS and QoP. To further boost the protection, we also apply the Diffie-Hellman key negotiation method to provide the dynamic key changes. Moreover, since the running PBO will vary on the dynamics of Internet from access time, client devices and access networks, the different applied security levels and key changes during the video streaming session will make eavesdropper more difficult to recover all the encrypted videos delivered in public networks. We demonstrate the leverage performance in preserving both QoS and QoP for ubiquitous video streaming in our proposed schemes by comprehensive experiments on a true VoD system. The experimental results show our secure VoD scheme can achieve cost-effective leverage of QoS and QoP from different inserted network dynamics, even if client buffer size is limited to 256 KB only.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the bandwidth allocation problem for serving video requests in a mobile real-time video player system. One of the main issues to maintain the quality of services (QoS) in mobile video playback is to ensure sufficient number of video frames available at the client side while a video is being played. However, due to the limited bandwidth of a mobile network and variable workload streaming video, this is not easy to achieve in practice. In addition, the communication link between mobile clients and a video server is subject to frequent errors and temporary disconnection. In this paper, we propose to use the notion of buffered bandwidth in addition to the network bandwidth to support real-time playback of videos at mobile clients. Based on this, we designed a bandwidth allocation scheme called Cooperative Pre-Fetching (CP) in which the amount of bandwidth to be allocated to serve a video request depends on the current buffer level of the video at the client relative to the target buffer level of the client. In determining the target buffer level, we consider the errors in communication to the client as well as the other clients who are concurrently served by the system. The buffered video frames at the clients are then used to minimize the impact of error in communications on the overall QoS of video playbacks in the whole system.

This paper proposes two algorithms for multi-video-source in a new mobile P2P architecture for streaming media systems. One is serial, and the other is parallel. When the service peer set providing expected QoS is not empty, the former is called, otherwise the latter is called. The former triggers the video source change event, re-selects a video source, and synchronizes the multi-video-source by the time model of the streaming sequence when QoS is degraded. The latter allows the multiple video sources to concurrently send the data to the receiving peer according to the assigned transmission. Compared to the existing papers, the contribution of this paper is fourfold: (1) the serial and parallel scheduling algorithms, correctly switched according to the actual situation, are firstly proposed; (2) the mobile feature of peers are firstly considered and validated; (3) the client nodes have better and smoother video quality; (4) our algorithms have shorter run time, which is a crucial factor for an on-line system.  相似文献

Multimedia streaming allows consumers to view multimedia content anywhere. However, quality of service is a major concern amid heightened levels of network traffic caused by increasing user demand. Accordingly, media streaming technology is adopting a new paradigm: adaptive HTTP streaming (AHS). AHS is widely used for real-time streaming content delivery in the Internet environment. In streaming, selection of appropriate bitrate is crucial for adapting media rate to network variations and client processing capabilities while ensuring optimal service for the consumer. We evaluate a proposed client-driven three-level optimized rate adaptation algorithm for adaptive HTTP media streaming. In the first stage, the algorithm chooses a suitable starting bitrate close to the available channel capacity. Next, the algorithm monitors the client parameters in real time, precisely detecting network variations and choosing a likely available bit representation for the next download segment. The algorithm controls and minimizes the effects of buffer stalls and overflow resulting from the brief network variations occurring between consecutive segments. The proposed algorithm is implemented in Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) player and its performance compared to that of commercially available Gstreamer-based HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and DASH players which use conventional segment fetch time–based adaptation and throughput-based adaptation algorithms respectively. This evaluation uses a real-time cloud server client and test bed streaming setup. The resulting analysis shows that the client-driven three-level rate adaptation (TLRA) approach allows adaptive streaming clients to maximize use of end-to-end network capacity, delivering an ideal user experience by precisely predicting network variations and rapidly adapting to available bandwidth, minimizing rebuffering events and bitrate level changes.  相似文献

多媒体代理缓存是提高媒体流化质量和减轻网络负载的重要手段,将基于协作的多媒体代理缓存技术引入无线网络,提出一种新的分区缓存管理模型(Partition-based caching manager,PBCM),通过对系统中各个代理的部分缓存空间(称为静态分区)采取集中式管理,可以合理配置缓存资源,降低缓存的冗余度,从全局角度优化系统的整体性能,具体地,PBCM中制定了一种全局对象放置策略来管理静态分区缓存的内容,该策略被模型化为一个优化问题,并采用改进遗传算法来求解,仿真实验表明该模型及算法是有效可行的。  相似文献

In next generation wireless networks, Internet service providers (ISPs) are expected to offer services through several wireless technologies (e.g., WLAN, 3G, WiFi, and WiMAX). Thus, mobile computers equipped with multiple interfaces will be able to maintain simultaneous connections with different networks and increase their data communication rates by aggregating the bandwidth available at these networks. To guarantee quality-of-service (QoS) for these applications, this paper proposes a dynamic QoS negotiation scheme that allows users to dynamically negotiate the service levels required for their traffic and to reach them through one or more wireless interfaces. Such bandwidth aggregation (BAG) scheme implies transmission of data belonging to a single application via multiple paths with different characteristics, which may result in an out-of-order delivery of data packets to the receiver and introduce additional delays for packets reordering. The proposed QoS negotiation system aims to ensure the continuity of QoS perceived by mobile users while they are on the move between different access points, and also, a fair use of the network resources. The performance of the proposed dynamic QoS negotiation system is investigated and compared against other schemes. The obtained results demonstrate the outstanding performance of the proposed scheme as it enhances the scalability of the system and minimizes the reordering delay and the associated packet loss rate.  相似文献

This paper provides a novel real-time video streaming method in distributed wireless image-sensing platforms. It consists of (1) a millimeter-wave (mmW)-based multi-hop routing optimization for real-time video streaming, (2) wireless image-sensing platforms by using the high-efficiency video coding. A mmW wireless communication is a promising technology for increasing capacity in next-generation wireless systems. However, the weakness of mmW signals to (1) do long-distance transmission and (2) survive in non-line-of-sight environments makes the mmW networks need a multi-hop relaying. Thus, this paper focuses on the maximization of video transmission quality of service (QoS) that makes the optimization problem different from the conventional sum-rate maximization. Specifically, this paper develops an algorithm that optimizes the summation of QoS of the individual wireless transmission of different video streams, subject to constraints of separate streams (i.e., minimum requirements in each stream). Experimental results show the proposed approach presents 32 % better performance with 1.84 dB gain in Y-peak signal-to-noise ratio than the widely used max–min flow routing that is generally considered in QoS-sensitive video streaming applications.  相似文献
