Routing design of tree‐shaped local public communication networks with high reliability and low cost
This paper discusses reliability problems for local public communication networks such as cable television networks and the
subscriber‐loops of telecommunication networks. They have tree‐shapes and expand continuously as new customers join. By introducing
a simple model, it is shown that most principal reliability measures and cost measures for such networks can be described
through the networks' graphical characteristic quantities. Extensive simulations show that the prior provision of trunk pipes
and a suitable choice of the route selecting rule for new customers are effective in constructing a highly reliable network
with low cost.

With the important breakthrough of optical fibre techniques over the past few years, a new type of broadband networks is emerging offering a wide range of services, including existing telecommunication services. The French telecommunication administration installs presently a first generation of broadband networks using optical fibres and broadband switchings, the so-called vidéocommunication networks. When specifying these networks, one important aspect was to assure that these networks can also offer telecommunication services and can evolve in a way to become the basis of a future national telecommunication network. Evaluating Reliability of Telecommunications Networks Using Traffic Path Information 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We propose a reliability model for representing telecommunications networks that does not focus on topological information, but rather traffic path information. Mapping from traffic paths to physical elements and capacities enables the model to express simply how terrible performance degradations occur. Existing models, such as probability graph models, and probability-capacity graph models, do not adequately address actual telecommunication network designs. The probability graph model never considers performance degradations, while the probability-capacity model unreasonably assumes that we can estimate performance degradations from only the network topology. This paper also proposes an algorithm for evaluating the reliability of our new model. A numerical example shows that the algorithm is reasonably efficient for even large telecommunications networks. 相似文献
