Most buildings in Hong Kong are served with electric/gas water heaters for hot water supply. With the elevated aspiration on the quality of life, an increase in hot water demand partly contributes to the escalating energy use of the city in the past decades. A photovoltaic-integrated solar heat pump (PV-SAHP) system, which can be seen as a scientific merge of the photovoltaic/thermal and solar assistant heat pump technology, is here proposed as a sustainable alternative. Numerical analysis has been carried out making use of a dynamic simulation model and the TMY weather data of Hong Kong. It was found that the proposed system with R-134a is able to achieve a yearly-average COP of 5.93 and PV output efficiency of 12.1%; the energy output is therefore considerably higher than the conventional heat pump plus PV “side-by-side” system. Within a year, the PV-SAHP system has better performance in summer time, when the monthly average COP could reach six or higher. Hence its application potential in Hong Kong is good.  相似文献

Grid-connected building-integrated photovoltaics: a Hong Kong case study   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The first building-integrated photovoltaic system (BIPV) in Hong Kong has been working successfully for three years, as remote system for the first year and grid-connected system in the last two years. A number of issues have been investigated on the experimental system including technical, economical, operation and management topics. This paper presents the findings from this research project funded by the Industrial Support Fund of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Simulation and data monitoring have been completed for energy performance of the BIPV system under Hong Kong weather conditions. The natural ventilation effect of an air gap on PV module’s power output and heat transfer across the PV wall and PV-roof have been investigated. Good agreement between simulation and experimental results was achieved. The system can provide about 41% of electric power for an indoor lighting floor area circuit of 250 m2. The harmonics of the power output from the PV system was also measured to check the interference level to the utility grid. Experiments show that the total harmonics current distortion of the grid-connected BIPV system is far lower than that from some conventional equipment, such as personal computers. The total harmonics from this BIPV system is less than 12% for most of the time, even when the incident solar irradiation is very weak.  相似文献

The worldwide fast development of building-integrated solar technology has prompted the design alternatives of fixing the solar panels on the building façades. How to make full use of an integrative system to achieve the best energy performance can be an important area in the technology promotion. Hybrid solar system applying in buildings has the advantage of increasing the energy output per unit installed collector area. This paper describes an experimental study of a centralized photovoltaic and hot water collector wall system that can serve as a water pre-heating system. Collectors are mounted at vertical facades. Different operating modes were performed with measurements in different seasons. Natural water circulation was found more preferable than forced circulation in this hybrid solar collector system. The thermal efficiency was found 38.9% at zero reduced temperature, and the corresponding electricity conversion efficiency was 8.56%, during the late summer of Hong Kong. With the PVT wall, the space thermal loads can be much reduced both in summer and winter, leading to substantial energy savings. Suggestions were given on how to further improve the system performance.  相似文献

This paper studies the use of Remote Sensing (RS) technologies and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for estimation of city-wide photovoltaic (PV) potential in Hong Kong. It investigates the spatial distribution of cloud coverage through geostationary satellites from the Multi-functional Transport Satellite (MTSAT). The results indicate that a non-prominent spatial variation of cloud cover presides over a majority of Hong Kong territories. Appropriate locations for deploying solar PV panels, such as rooftops, were delineated using RS, GIS, and existing ancillary data. Extraction and filtering of pixels based on a set of criterions were used to identify optimal PV rooftops. This study shows that the summarization of PV potentials in Hong Kong is 2.66 TWh on building rooftops. The methodologies and findings from this study permits detailed spatial estimation of city-wide solar energy potential, and assists the policy-decision process on the use of renewable energy in Hong Kong.  相似文献

This article presents an overview on the research and development and application aspects for the hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector systems. A major research and development work on the photovoltaic/thermal (PVT) hybrid technology has been done since last 30 years. Different types of solar thermal collector and new materials for PV cells have been developed for efficient solar energy utilization. The solar energy conversion into electricity and heat with a single device (called hybrid photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) collector) is a good advancement for future energy demand. This review presents the trend of research and development of technological advancement in photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) solar collectors and its useful applications like as solar heating, water desalination, solar greenhouse, solar still, photovoltaic-thermal solar heat pump/air-conditioning system, building integrated photovoltaic/thermal (BIPVT) and solar power co-generation.  相似文献

Hong Kong is highly vulnerable to energy and economic security due to the heavy dependence on imported fossil fuels. The combustion of fossil fuels also causes serious environmental pollution. Therefore, it is important to explore the opportunities for clean renewable energy for long-term energy supply. Hong Kong has the potential to develop clean renewable hydrogen energy to improve the environmental performance. This paper reviews the recent development of hydrogen production technologies, followed by an overview of the renewable energy sources and a discussion about potential applications for renewable hydrogen production in Hong Kong. The results show that although renewable energy resources cannot entirely satisfy the energy demand in Hong Kong, solar energy, wind power, and biomass are available renewable sources for significant hydrogen production. A system consisting of wind turbines and photovoltaic (PV) panels coupled with electrolyzers is a promising design to produce hydrogen. Biomass, especially organic waste, offers an economical, environmental-friendly way for renewable hydrogen production. The achievable hydrogen energy output would be as much as 40% of the total energy consumption in transportation.  相似文献

There is a growing, government-led trend of applying renewable energy in Hong Kong. One area of interest lies in the wider use of solar-energy systems. The worldwide fast development of building-integrated solar technology has prompted the design alternative of fixing the solar panels on the external façades of buildings. In Hong Kong, high-rise buildings are found everywhere in the urban districts. How to make full use of the vertical facades of these buildings to capture the most solar radiation can be an important area in the technology promotion. In this numerical study, the potential application of a centralized solar water-heating system in high-rise residence was evaluated. Arrays of solar thermal collectors, that occupied the top two-third of the south and west façades of a hypothetical high-rise residence, were proposed for supporting the domestic hot-water system. Based on typical meteorological data, it was found that the annual efficiency of the vertical solar collectors could reach 38.4% on average, giving a solar fraction of 53.4% and a payback period of 9.2 years. Since the solar collectors were able to reduce the heat transmission through the building envelope, the payback was in fact even shorter if the energy saving in air-conditioner operation was considered.  相似文献

Electric energy production with photovoltaic (PV)/thermal solar hybrid systems can be enhanced with the employment of a bifacial PV module. Experimental model of a PV/thermal hybrid system with such a module was constructed and studied. To make use of both active surfaces of the bifacial PV module, we designed and made an original water-heating planar collector and a set of reflecting planes. The heat collector was transparent in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions, which makes it compatible with the PV module made of crystalline Si. The estimated overall solar energy utilization efficiency for the system related to the direct radiation flux is of the order of 60%, with an electric efficiency of 16.4%.  相似文献

In photovoltaic–thermal (PV/T) technology, the use of glass cover on the flat-plate hybrid solar collector is favorable to the photothermic process but not to the photovoltaic process. Because of the difference in the usefulness of electricity and thermal energy, there is often no straight forward answer on whether a glazed or unglazed collector system is more suitable for a specific application. This glazing issue was tackled in this paper from the viewpoint of thermodynamics. Based on experimental data and validated numerical models, a study of the appropriateness of glass cover on a thermosyphon-based water-heating PV/T system was carried out. The influences of six selected operating parameters were evaluated. From the first law point of view, a glazed PV/T system is found always suitable if we are to maximize the quantity of either the thermal or the overall energy output. From the exergy analysis point of view however, the increase of PV cell efficiency, packing factor, water mass to collector area ratio, and wind velocity are found favorable to go for an unglazed system, whereas the increase of on-site solar radiation and ambient temperature are favorable for a glazed system.  相似文献

Hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T or PVT) solar systems consist of PV modules coupled to water or air heat extraction devices, which convert the absorbed solar radiation into electricity and heat. At the University of Patras, an extended research on PV/T systems has been performed aiming at the study of several modifications for system performance improvement. In this paper a new type of PV/T collector with dual heat extraction operation, either with water or with air circulation is presented. This system is simple and suitable for building integration, providing hot water or air depending on the season and the thermal needs of the building. Experiments with dual type PV/T models of alternative arrangement of the water and the air heat exchanging elements were performed. The most effective design was further studied, applying to it low cost modifications for the air heat extraction improvement. These modifications include a thin metallic sheet placed in the middle of the air channel, the mounting of fins on the opposite wall to PV rear surface of the air channel and the placement of the sheet combined with small ribs on the opposite air channel wall. The modified dual PV/T collectors were combined with booster diffuse reflectors, achieving a significant increase in system thermal and electrical energy output. The improved PV/T systems have aesthetic and energy advantages and could be used instead of separate installation of plain PV modules and thermal collectors, mainly if the available building surface is limited and the thermal needs are associated with low temperature water or air heating.  相似文献

In this article, a transient simulation model and the EnergyPlus were used to study the energy performance and economical feasibility for integrating a solar liquid desiccant dehumidification system with a conventional vapor compression air-conditioning system for the weather condition of Hong Kong. The vapor compression system capacity in the solar assisted air-conditioning system can be reduced to 19 kW from original 28 kW of a conventional air-conditioning system as a case study due to the solar desiccant cooling. The economical performance of the solar desiccant dehumidification system is compared with that of the conventional air-conditioning system. The results show that the energy saving potentials due to incorporation of the solar desiccant dehumidification system in a traditional air-conditioning system is significant for the hot wet weather in Hong Kong due to higher COP resulted from higher supply chilled water temperature from chiller plants. The annual operation energy savings for the hybrid system is 6760 kWh and the payback period of the hybrid system is around 7 years. The study shows that the solar assisted air-conditioning is a viable technology for utilizations in subtropical areas.  相似文献

A flat-box aluminum-alloy photovoltaic and water-heating system designed for natural circulation was constructed. The hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector was an integration of single-crystalline silicon cells into a solar thermal collector. The product was able to generate electricity and hot water simultaneously. Outdoor tests on an improved prototype were conducted in a moderate climate zone. Then dynamic simulation runs, using a validated numerical model, were performed. These included sensitivity tests with variations of the system water mass, PV cell covering factor, and front glazing transmissivity. The test results showed that the characteristic daily primary-energy saving could reach up to 65% for this system with a PV cell covering factor 0.63 and front glazing transmissivity of 0.83, when the hot water load per unit heat-collecting area exceeded 80 kg/m2. The simulated results indicated that the higher the PV cell covering factor and the glazing transmissivity, the better the overall system performance. The effects were quantified.  相似文献

The rapid development and sales volume of photovoltaic (PV) modules has created a promising business environment in the foreseeable future. However, the current electricity cost from PV is still several times higher than from the conventional power generation. One way to shorten the payback period is to bring in the hybrid photovoltaic–thermal (PVT) technology, which multiplies the energy outputs from the same collector surface area. In this paper, the performance evaluation of a new water-type PVT collector system is presented. The thermal collection making use of the thermosyphon principle eliminates the expense of pumping power. Experimental rigs were successfully built. A dynamic simulation model of the PVT collector system was developed and validated by the experimental measurements, together with two other similar models developed for PV module and solar hot-water collector. These were then used to predict the energy outputs and the payback periods for their applications in the subtropical climate, with Hong Kong as an example. The numerical results show that a payback period of 12 year for the PVT collector system is comparable to the side-by-side system, and is much shorter than the plain PV application. This is a great encouragement in marketing the PVT technology.  相似文献

Most photovoltaic (PV) facades are built as curtain facades in front of thermally insulated buildings, with air ducts in between. This causes additional costs for support structure and installation, while heat dissipation from the solar cells is often not optimal. Measurements carried out are facing both concerns: integration of a thermal insulating layer (which meets the latest German heat-preserving regulation, WSV 95) into the PV facade, plus additional cooling by active ventilation or water flow. Active ventilation at conventional curtain PV facades allows a reduction of cell operating temperatures of 18 K, resulting in an 8% increase in electrical energy output at an airspeed of about 2 m/s. Cell temperatures increase by 20.7 K at thermal insulating PV facade elements (TIPVE) without cooling, which causes a 9.3% loss of electrical yield, but installation costs can be reduced by 20% (all related to a conventional PV curtain plus a heat-insulating facade at a building). HYTIPVE, a hybrid thermal insulating PV facade element combined with a water cooling system, which could also serve for heating up water, lowers the operating cell temperature by 20 K and increases electrical yield by 9% (compared with conventional curtain PV facades). Further economic investigations of such a HYTIPVE, including its operational costs and substitution effect, related to the electrical and thermal yield, are in progress.  相似文献

The conventional active solar water-heating floor system contains a big water tank to store energy in the day time for heating at night, which takes much building space and is very heavy. In order to reduce the water tank volume or even cancel the tank, a novel structure of an integrated water pipe floor heating system using shape-stabilized phase change materials (SSPCM) for thermal energy storage was developed and experimentally studied in this paper. The thermal performances of the floors with and without the SSPCM were compared under the intermittent heating condition. The results show that the Energy Storage Ratio (ESR) of the SSPCM floor is much higher than that of the non-SSPCM floor; the SSPCM floor heating system can provide stable heat flux and prevent a large attenuation of the floor surface temperature. Also, the SSPCM floor heating system dampens the indoor temperature swing by about 50% and increases the minimum indoor air temperature by 2°C–3°C under experimental conditions. The SSPCM floor heating system has a potential of making use of the daytime solar energy for heating at night efficiently.  相似文献

In the paper, we analyzed internal thermal transmission characteristics of water‐heating photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) solar collector covered by photovoltaic (PV) cell, established photothermal conversion model of PV/T solar system, and analyzed the influence of PV cell coverage to photothermal characteristics of PV/T solar system. Results show that the thermal efficiency of PV/T solar system by optimizing PV cells coverage can reach 68%. In addition, by designing four water‐heating PV/T solar system prototypes with PV cell coverage of 0.4, 0.56, 0.7, and 0.82, respectively, we conducted experimental researches for the four prototypes and found that the four prototypes can achieve thermal efficiencies of 58%, 51%, 64%, and 67%, respectively, in heating 250 L of water to 50°C. The experiment results are consistent with theoretical analysis results, indicating that it is feasible to improve thermal characteristics of PV/T solar system by optimizing PV cell coverage. A new photovoltaic/thermal heat pump (PV/T-HP) system having a modified collector/evaporator (C/E) has been developed and numerically studied. Multi-port flat extruded aluminum tubes were used in the modified C/E, as compared to round copper tubes used in a conventional C/E. Simulation results suggested that a better operating performance can be achieved for a PV/T-HP system having such a modified C/E. In addition, using the meteorological data in both Nanjing and Hong Kong, China, the simulation results showed that this new PV/T-HP system could efficiently generate electricity and thermal energy simultaneously in both cities all-year-round. Furthermore, improved operation by using variable speed compressor has been designed and discussed.  相似文献

Building integrated photovoltaic system (BIPV) is a photovoltaic (PV) integration that generates energy and serves as a building envelope. A building element (e.g. roof and wall) is based on its functional performance, which could include structure, durability, maintenance, weathering, thermal insulation, acoustics, and so on. The present paper discusses the suitability of PV as a building element in terms of thermal performance based on a case study of a 5.25?kWp roof-integrated BIPV system in tropical regions. Performance of PV has been compared with conventional construction materials and various scenarios have been simulated to understand the impact on occupant comfort levels. In the current case study, PV as a roofing material has been shown to cause significant thermal discomfort to the occupants. The study has been based on real-time data monitoring supported by computer-based building simulation model.  相似文献
