Iron oxide dust generated during oxygen blowing in the BOF process contains a high content of iron. This iron oxide dust can be used as a material of iron source in the BOF slag reduction process or as de‐siliconisation flux or dephosphorization flux of hot metal pretreatment. One of the most practical uses of iron oxide dust is recycling as a form of pellets in the BOF considering easy application and the amount that can be recycled. In the process of making iron dust pellets cement is used as a binder that contains a lot of calcium sulfate. This calcium sulfate is reduced and dissolved in the molten metal during refining in the BOF. If the oxygen content in slag and molten steel is high enough, the reduced sulfate cannot be dissolved into molten metal and it can be removed as SOx gas. The behaviour of calcium sulfate has been studied using of 50kg high frequency induction furnace and industrial‐scale plant tests were carried out at a 300ton BOF. The results show that for low carbon steels the evaporation of decomposed sulfate increases with increasing oxygen content in the slag while for high carbon steels the decomposed sulfate is reduced into the molten metal. 相似文献

The industrial solvent trichloroethylene (TCE) is among the ubiquitous chlorinated organic compounds found in groundwater contamination. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of applying basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag as the catalyst to enhance the Fenton-like oxidation to remediate TCE-contaminated groundwater. Results indicate that TCE oxidation via the Fenton-like process can be enhanced with the addition of BOF slag. Results from the X-ray powder diffraction analysis reveal that the major iron type of BOF slag/quartz sand media was iron oxyhydroxide (α-Fe2O3). Approximately 81% of TCE removal was observed (with initial TCE concentration of approximately 5?mg?L?1), with the addition of 1,000?mg?L?1 of H2O2 and 10?g?L?1 of BOF slag. Results also show that TCE concentrations dropped from 5 to 1.1?mg?L?1, and chloride concentrations increased from 0 to 2.7?mg?L?1 after 60 min of reaction with the presence of H2O2 and BOF slag. This indicates that the depletion of TCE corresponded with the oxidation reactions and release of chloride ions very well in this study. Results demonstrate that the BOF slag can be used to supply catalysts continuously, and it can be installed in a permeable barrier system to enhance the Fenton-like process in situ. 相似文献

The ‘Petrurgic process’ has become a prominent process to address the energy saving issue in the glass ceramic-making process. If the basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag could be utilised by this process, the environmental problem caused by dumping the waste without recycling might also be resolved effectively. However, it is difficult to directly use BOF slag itself as a valuable material because of high melting point and large amount of iron oxide. Therefore, the current research was focused on elucidating crystallisation behaviour of the iron oxide-devoid BOF slag melt during cooling process with the intention of using the BOF slag to the Petrurgic process. The slag melt showed two crystallisation processes during cooling: the eutectic reaction at the early stage and the diffusion process at the later stage. In addition, the crystallisation mechanism was similar throughout the cooling rate, although the cooling rate influenced the morphology of the crystallisation product. 相似文献
