In this article, highly loaded silver (Ag) nanoparticles with mean diameter of about 7.83 nm were synthesized by reducing Ag ions by NaBH4 with strong reducibility, and homogeneously embedded into cellulose aerogels without obvious reunion. The as‐prepared nano‐Ag/cellulose (NAC) aerogels maintained nanoporous and multiscale morphology similar to the pure cellulose aerogels, and showed strong antibacterial activities for both Escherichia coli (Gram negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive). Meanwhile, after the incorporation of Ag nanoparticles, NAC aerogels also displayed more superior thermal stability. Thus, the novel NAC aerogels might be expected to be used as various biomedical applications, especially green heat‐resistant high‐performance antibacterial materials. POLYM. Novel nanocomposite films of chitosan/phosphoramide/Ag NPs were prepared containing 1–5% of silver nanoparticles. The Ag NPs were synthesized according to the citrate reduction method. The XRD and SEM analysis of Ag NPs, chitosan (CS), phosphoramide (Ph), CS/Ph, CS/Ag NPs films and the nanocomposite films 1–5 containing CS/Ph/1–5% Ag NPs were investigated. The in vitro antibacterial activities were evaluated against four bacteria including two Gram‐positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) and two Gram‐negative Escherchia coli (E. coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) bacteria. Results revealed greater antibacterial effects of the films against Gram‐positive bacteria. Also, nanocomposite films containing higher percent of Ag NPs showed more antibacterial activities. POLYM. Medical applications require, in most cases, antibacterial protection. The use of silver (Ag) gives important antibacterial properties since silver is highly toxic for bacteria. In this research work, we have used silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) with different surfactants, polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and oleic acid (OA) to facilitate dispersion. PP‐Ag NPs compounds were prepared by melt mixing, and the effects of the processing conditions on nanoparticles' dispersion were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The antibacterial efficiency of PP‐Ag NPs compounds against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Escherichia coli ATCC 8379 was evaluated. Results show that good dispersion is obtained with rotating speeds in the 350–500 rpm range. TEM analysis reveals balanced dispersion and presence of some Ag NPs aggregates. Regarding antimicrobial properties, the use of PVP as surfactant leads to “significant” antimicrobial activity of 1.5 against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli; on other hand, the use of oleic acid (OA) as surfactant leads to strong protection against Staphylococcus aureus (antimicrobial activity between 2.5 and 3.3) but the overall protection against Escherichia coli is very low (lower than 1). Results show that the use of surfactants for Ag NPs has important effects on antibacterial properties of polypropylene filled with coated Ag NPs. POLYM. ENG. Silver-dispersed carbon aerogels (CAs) were obtained by direct immersion of organic aerogels prepared by ambient pressure drying technique in AgNO3 aqueous solution and then carbonization. The effect of preparation conditions such as the resorcinol/catalyst ratio, the feed AgNO3 concentration, the ratio of aerogel mass/solution volume, immersion time and carbonization temperature on the bulk density and silver content as well as the BET surface area of the dispersed CAs was studied. The dispersion and structure of silver nanoparticles in obtained materials were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The Ag-dispersed CAs prepared exhibit strong and long-term antibacterial activity.  相似文献

Styrene‐butylene/ethylene‐styrene‐based thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) are polymers with soft touch properties that are widely used for manufacturing devices that involve hand contact. However, when contaminated with microorganisms these products can contribute to spreading diseases. The incorporation of antibacterial additives can help maintain low bacteria counts. This work evaluated the antibacterial action of TPE loaded with silver ions and silver nanoparticles. The additives nanosilver on fumed silica (NpAg_silica), silver phosphate glass (Ag+_phosphate), and bentonite organomodified with silver (Ag+_bentonite) were added to the TPE formulation. The compounds were evaluated for tensile and thermal properties and antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). All the additives eliminated over 90% of E. coli, but only NpAg_silica killed more than 80% of S. aureus population. The better effect of NpAg_silica was attributed to the additive's high specific surface area, which promoted greater contact with bacteria cells. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. A new method for production of nylon nanofibers with antibacterial properties containing silver nanoparticles (nylon nanofibers/Ag NPs) is introduced via in situ synthesis of nano-silver by reduction of silver nitrate in the polymer solution prior to electrospinning. The properties of the electrospinning solutions and the structures of the electrospun fibers were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), UV?Cvis spectrophotometer and reflection spectrophotometer. Further, the antibacterial properties of the nanofibers were investigated against Escherichia coli (Gram-negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) bacteria. Interestingly, an antibacterial properties has been found on nylon 6 nanofibers while the nylon nanofibers/Ag NPs showed excellent antibacterial activities against both tested bacteria. The produced nylon nanofibers/Ag NPs can be a good candidate for biomedical applications, water and air filtration.  相似文献

We have successfully synthesized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers impregnated with Ag nanoparticles by electrospinning method at room temperature. Briefly, the PAN‐Ag composite nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning PAN (10% w/v) in dimethyl formamide (DMF) solvent containing silver nitrate (AgNO3) in the amounts of 8% by weight of PAN. The silver ions were reduced into silver particles in three different methods i.e., by refluxing the solution before electrospinning, treating with sodium borohydride (NaBH4), as reducing agent, and heating the prepared composite nanofibers at 160°C. The prepared PAN nanofibers functionalized with Ag nanoparticles were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), SEM elemental detection X‐ray analysis (SEM‐EDAX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and ultraviolet‐visible spectroscopy (UV‐VIS) analytical techniques. UV‐VIS spectra analysis showed distinct absorption band at 410 nm, suggesting the formation of Ag nanoparticles. TEM micrographs confirmed homogeneous dispersion of Ag nanoparticles on the surface of PAN nanofibers, and particle diameter was found to be 5–15 nm. It was found that all the three electrospun PAN‐Ag composite nanofibers showed strong antibacterial activity toward both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. However, the antibacterial activity of PAN‐Ag composite nanofibers membrane prepared by refluxed method was most prominent against S. aureus bacteria. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) are used as antimicrobial agents due to their high-efficiency, broad-spectrum disinfection activity. However, the agglomeration and stability problems caused by excessive release of silver ions (Ag+) have severely restricted their developments. Herein, a novel silver/polyethyleneimine/reduced graphene oxide (Ag/PEI/rGO) antibacterial material featuring good dispersibility and permeability was rationally designed, thus benefiting for the capture of bacteria due to the introducing of highly-cationic PEI modifier and controllable release of biocidal agents (Ag+). Compared with Ag/rGO, the Ag/PEI/rGO has excellent stability and shows a more efficient sterilization efficacy against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) with 100% germicidal efficiency with low orders of dozens of ppm. In addition, the outstanding biocompatibility of this Ag/PEI/rGO antibacterial material endows it with promising potential in sterilization applications, which is expected to solve the infection problem caused by bacterial biofilm formation.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: On the basis of effective bioaffinity adsorption of Ag+, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were synthesized on the surface of chitosan‐TiO2 adsorbent (CTA) by TiO2 photocatalysis for crystal growth. RESULTS: Among the microstructure characterizations of the resulting silver nanoparticles‐ loaded chitosan‐TiO2 adsorbent (Ag‐CTA), X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX) revealed the formation of metallic Ag on the CTA, which was further confirmed by the surface plasmon resonance of Ag NPs in the UV‐visible absorption spectrum. The underlying mechanism behind the formation of Ag NPs on the CTA by TiO2 photoreduction was studied by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The distinctive feature of Ag‐CTA after adsorption was the highly efficient antimicrobial activity in inactivating different test strains. In the case of Escherichia coli, 1.50 mg 1.67 wt% Ag‐CTA could totally inhibit 1.0–1.2 × 107 colony forming units (CFU) in 100 mL nutrient medium, which was superior to that previously reported. CONCLUSIONS: CTA effectively adsorbed the precious metal ion Ag+ onto active imprinting sites on the adsorbent and then exerted efficient antimicrobial effects against diverse microbes. This research will be useful for designing a novel CTA‐based wastewater treatment for multi‐functional performance. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A nanocomposite reservoir‐type hydrogel dressing of poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) was fabricated by a freeze–thaw method and loaded with silver‐nanoparticle‐coated chitosan wafers (Ag–CHWs). The Ag–CHWs were synthesized by a sonication technique with silver nitrate (AgNO3) and chitosan powder. Scanning electron microscopy images showed silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with a size range of 10 ± 4 nm on the surface of the chitosan wafers, and the antibacterial efficacy (minimum inhibitory concentration) of the Ag–CHWs was measured against Pseudomonas aeruginosa (32 µg/mL), Staphylococcus aureus, (30 µg/mL) and Escherichia coli (32 µg/mL). The antimicrobial PVA hydrogel showed an improved tensile strength (~0.28 MPa) and gel content (~92%) in comparison with the blank hydrogels. Full‐thickness‐excision wound studies of the nanocomposite dressing on Wistar rats revealed enhanced wound contraction, improved inflammation response, re‐epithelization rate, neoangiogenesis, and granulation tissue formation in comparison to the control group. A flexible, biocompatible, nanocomposite reservoir dressing not only established the chitosan as a stabilizer but also proved the efficacious and safe utility of AgNPs toward chronic wound management. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We designed and prepared novel hybrid films of nanoparticles consisting of gelatin‐g‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/silver (Ag) polymers with ordered nanoporous, higher antibacterial activities. First, the gelatin‐grafted PMMA microspheres were fabricated with the in situ copolymerization of gelatin and alkenes under radical initiation, which acted as a stabilizer and regulator for Ag nanoparticle growth. Then, silver nitrate was entrapped in a copolymerization system at 40°C for 30 min. Finally, the gelatin‐g‐PMMA/Ag polymer hybrid films were prepared by the reduction of Ag+ with hydrazine, followed by emulsion solidification. The antibacterial activities of the gelatin‐g‐PMMA/Ag polymer hybrid films against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were found with the disc diffusion method and colony count assays to be clear and lasting. In this study, our work not only presented a good example of a nanoporous antibacterial film material but also provided a facile method for making use of gelatin and metal/inorganic self‐assemble properties in graft copolymerization to prepare functional polymer hybrids, such as antibacterial, antithrombogenic, and dot‐quantum effect materials. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, high‐performance multifunctional composites were obtained by melt blending silver deposited tetrapod‐like zinc oxide whiskers (Ag‐ZnOw) with polystyrene (PS). The chemical, spectroscopic, antibacterial, mechanical, and morphological properties of the PS/Ag‐ZnOw composites were carefully investigated and discussed. The obtained PS/Ag‐ZnOw composites characterized remarkable antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Moreover, it is found that impact strength of the composite increase with increasing nanofiller concentration (up to 0.25 wt %). Morphological characterization of the impact fractured surface of composites revealed that toughening was achieved through uniform filler distribution in the polymer matrix, and anchoring effect was imparted by the tetrapod‐like shape of ZnO whiskers. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyvinyl acetate nanocomposites were successfully prepared based on silver nanoparticles. First, silver nanoparticles were directly prepared during the in situ emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate monomer using AgNO3 as a source of Ag+ ions and poly(vinyl alcohol) was used for dual functions as emulsifier for emulsion polymerization and as a stabilizing agent, trisodium citrate (C6H5O7Na3) was used as reducing agent for Ag+ ions during the polymerization process. The prepared polyvinyl acetate/Ag nanocomposites were assessed using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, transmission electron microscopy, and ultraviolet spectra. The antibacterial properties of the prepared polyvinyl acetate/Ag nanocomposites were investigated as antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria, i.e., Staphylococcus aureus (G+ve bacteria) and Escherichia coli (G?ve bacteria). These polyvinyl acetate nanocomposites could be used as a promising material for enhanced and continuous antibacterial applications as coating and packaging materials.  相似文献

A novel antibacterial composite of coal/LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) loaded with silver ions (ACCPE) was prepared by means of solid–liquid phase adsorption and extrusion. The composite was characterized by IR, XRD and SEM, and the mechanical, rheological, and Ag+‐releasing, and antibacterial properties of the composite were investigated. We discover that the ACCPE shows favorable mechanical properties, features a higher processability and antibacterial activity, and the coal and silver ion possess superimposed effect on antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. BACKGROUND: As a result of evolution of multiple drug resistance in human pathogens (bacteria) there is increasing demand for novel antibacterial agents, and recently, due to their high antibacterial and catalytic activities, metal nanoparticles have attracted the attention of researchers and medical microbiologists worldwide. RESULTS: Ni‐, Ce‐ and Ag‐doped MnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by a co‐precipitation method. Antibacterial activity of these synthesized nanoparticles on methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus and lead‐resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain 4EA was investigated using a disc diffusion method. Only Ag‐doped MnO2 nanoparticles showed an antibacterial property against methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus and lead‐resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain 4EA at low levels of 60 µg/disc and 85 µg/disc, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (SEM‐TEM) coupled with energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX) analysis revealed the nano‐size and composition of these synthesized nanoparticles. CONCLUSION: It was confirmed through a disc diffusion method that chemically synthesized silver doped MnO2 nanoparticles have antibacterial activity against multidrug‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus and lead‐resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain 4EA at low levels therefore these nanoparticles can be employed to fight and prevent infections caused by multidrug‐resistant bacterial pathogens. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Dual‐function silica–silver core‐shell (SiO2@Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) with the core diameter of 17 ± 2 nm and the shell thickness of about 1.5 nm were produced using a green chemistry. The SiO2@Ag NPs were tested in vitro against gram‐positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and gram‐negative Escherichia coli (E. coli), both of which are human pathogens. Minimal inhibitory concentrations of the SiO2@Ag NPs based on Ag content are 4 and 10 μg mL?1 against S. aureus and E. coli, respectively. These values are similar to those of Ag NPs. SiO2@Ag NPs were for the first time incorporated to a commodity polypropylene (PP) polymer. This yielded an advanced multifunctional polymer using current compounding technologies i.e., melt blending by twin‐screw extruder and solvent (toluene) blending. The composite containing 5 wt % SiO2@Ag NPs (0.05 wt % Ag) exhibited efficient bactericidal activity with over 99.99% reduction in bacterial cell viability and significantly improved the flexural modulus of the PP. Anodic stripping voltammetry, used to investigate the antibacterial mechanism of the composite, indicated that a bactericidal Ag+ agent was released from the composite in an aqueous environment. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The surface of polypropylene (PP) fiber was modified by UV-induced graft polymerization of 1-vinylimidazole (Vim), followed by quaternization with iodomethane, sulfonation with chlorosulfonic acid, or loading of silver (Ag) nanoparticles to endow the surface with antibacterial properties. The modified PP fibers were characterized by FT-IR, SEM, and surface charge analyses. The antibacterial activity of the modified PP fibers was assessed against the Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), respectively. The PP-g-Vim was greatly improved by loading of Ag nanoparticles (≥99.9%), quaternization (98.9–99.2%), or sulfonation (≥99.9%).  相似文献

In this study, we developed a one step process to synthesize nanogel containing silver nanoparticles involving electron beam irradiation. Water-soluble silver nitrate powder is dissolved in the distilled water and then poly(acrylic acid) (PAAc) and hexane are put into this silver nitrate solution. These samples are irradiated by an electron beam to make the PAAc nanogels containing silver nanoparticles (Ag/PAAc nanogels). The nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). In addition, the particle size and zeta-potential were confirmed by a particle size analyzer (PSA). The antibacterial properties of the nanogels were evaluated by paper diffusion test. The Ag/PAAc nanogels had an antibacterial effect against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The nanogels also demonstrated a good healing effect against diabetic ulcer. The size of the Ag/PAAc nanogels decreased with increasing irradiation doses, and the absolute value of the zeta potential increased with increasing irradiation doses. Also, the Ag/PAAc nanogels exhibited good antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. In in vivo wound healing, the Ag/PAAc nanogels have a good healing effect.  相似文献

Antibacterial polycaprolactone (PCL) electrospun fiber mats were prepared by coelectrospinning PCL with soluble eggshell membrane protein (SEP) in 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoro‐2‐propanol (HFIP), followed by adsorption of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) through hydrogen‐bonding interaction between the amide groups of SEP and the carboxylic acid groups capped on the surfaces of Ag NPs. The PCL/SEP fiber mat was characterized by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, indicating the presence of some SEP on the fiber surface. The adsorption of Ag NPs was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and quantitatively characterized by thermogravimetric analysis. The pH value of the silver sol used for adsorption is very important in view of the amount and dispersion state of Ag NPs adsorbed on the fibers. The Ag NP–decorated PCL/SEP fiber mats prepared at pH 3–5 exhibit strong antibacterial activity against both gram‐negative Escherichia coli and gram‐positive Bacillus subtilis. Antibacterial PCL fiber mats were also obtained similarly with the assistance of collagen (another protein) instead of SEP, showing that protein‐assisted adsorption of Ag NPs is a versatile method to prepare antibacterial electrospun fiber mats. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A colloidal dispersion of silver nanoparticles were prepared with Tollens’ reagent [Ag(NH3)2]+ and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as a reducing/stabilizing agent trough UVC irradiation and then applied on the nylon fabric by using a simple pad method. The ultraviolet irradiation was assisted to reduce Ag+ to Ag0. The presence of nanosilver in the solution and on the fabric was confirmed by UV–vis, EDX, SEM and XRD. In addition, the role of PVP as a stabilizing agent on the nylon surface was investigated. Further, an antibacterial test was carried out on the fabrics in the presence of two bacteria namely Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The treated fabric with 200 ppm of the above mentioned solution was reduced the bacteria up to 99.2% after 20 washes. Some other properties of the fabric such as color variations, dimensional stability, water droplet adsorption and reflectance spectrum were also carried out and the results thoroughly discussed.  相似文献
