The homogeneous dispersion and strong interfacial interactions of carbon nanomaterials are vital factors on enhancing the properties of polymer composites. Two‐dimensional reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and one‐dimensional carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were first grafted by 4,4′‐oxydianiline (ODA). The successful grafting of ODA onto the rGO and CNTs were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The hybrid carbon nanomaterials of the functionalized CNTs and rGO with different ratios were prepared via a solution‐mixing method, and their dispersion state was investigated. The hybrid carbon nanomaterials with good stability were introduced to polyimide (PI) via in situ polymerization. The morphology and properties of the polymer composites were studied. The results show that much better mechanical and electrical properties of the composites could be achieved in comparison with those of the neat PI. An improvement of 100.7% on the tensile strength and eight orders for the electrical conductivity were achieved at only a 1.0 wt % hybrid content. A significant enhancement effect was attributed to the homogeneous dispersion of the filler, filler–matrix strong interfacial interactions, and unique structure of the hybrid carbon nanomaterials in the composites. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An effective approach to prepare polyimide/siloxane‐functionalized graphene oxide composite films is reported. The siloxane‐functionalized graphene oxide was obtained by treating graphene oxide (GO) with 1,3‐bis(3‐aminopropyl)‐1,1,3,3‐tetra‐methyldisiloxane (DSX) to obtain DSX‐GO nanosheets, which provided a starting platform for in situ fabrication of the composites by grafting polyimide (PI) chains at the reactive sites of functional DSX‐GO nanosheets. DSX‐GO bonded with the PI matrix through amide linkage to form PI‐DSX‐GO films, in which DSX‐GO exhibited excellent dispersibility and compatibility. It is demonstrated that the obvious reinforcing effect of GO to PI in mechanical properties and thermal stability for PI‐DSX‐GO is obtained. The tensile strength of a composite film containing 1.0 wt% DSX‐GO was 2.8 times greater than that of neat PI films, and Young's modulus was 6.3 times than that of neat PI films. Furthermore, the decomposition temperature of the composite for 5% weight loss was approximately 30 °C higher than that of neat PI films. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry

This study thoroughly studied the implements of fluorosilane modified graphene oxide (GO) on the mechanical, thermal, and water absorption properties of the epoxy composites built up by specific content of modified GO. Fluorosilane graphene oxide (GOSiF) was analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, Raman spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffractometer. The epoxy composites tensile and bending modulus were increased by 11.46% and 62.25% with 0.1 and 0.5 wt% GOSiF loading, respectively. The good interfacial interaction was observed between epoxy matrix and GOSiF nanosheets under scanning electron microscopy. The thermal stability increases with GOSiF loading. Epoxy composite with 0.3 wt% GOSiF shows 5 °C increases in the T10%. The residual weight raised by 58.67% with 0.3 wt% GOSiF content. The water absorption study revealed small water uptake was obtained for all GOSiF composites. With 0.3 wt% loading of GOSiF, the maximum water content drops from 4.97% for neat epoxy to 1.98%. POLYM. Homogeneous dispersion and strong filler–matrix interfacial interactions were vital factors for graphene for enhancing the properties of polymer composites. To improve the dispersion of graphene in the polymer matrix and enhance the interfacial interactions, graphene oxide (GO), as an important precursor of graphene, was functionalized with amine‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG–NH2) to prepare GO–poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). Then, GO–PEG was further reduced to prepare modified reduced graphene oxide (rGO)–PEG with N2H4·H2O. The success of the modification was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and Raman spectroscopy. Different loadings of rGO–PEG were introduced into polyimide (PI) to produce composites via in situ polymerization and a thermal reduction process. The modification of PEG–NH2 on the surface of rGO inhibited its reaggregation and improved the filler–matrix interfacial interactions. The properties of the composites were enhanced by the incorporation of rGO–PEG. With the addition of 1.0 wt % rGO–PEG, the tensile strength of PI increased by 81.5%, and the electrical conductivity increased by eight orders of magnitude. This significant improvement was attributed to the homogeneous dispersion of rGO–PEG and its strong filler–matrix interfacial interactions. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets/alumina (Al2O3) composite ceramics were fabricated by hot-pressing sintering. The density, porosity, microhardness, flexural strength and complex permittivity were investigated to study their mechanical and dielectric properties. The results revealed that the rGO nanosheets were uniformly distributed in the Al2O3 matrix and that the composite ceramics were highly dense at 3.67–3.99 g/cm3. Due to low rGO hardness and elevated porosity, the microhardness exhibits a decreasing trend as the rGO content increases. The flexural strength first increased and then decreased with the escalation of rGO content, and the highest strength of 313.75 MPa was obtained at 3 wt%, increasing by 37.61% relative to that of the hot-pressing sintered Al2O3 ceramic. Owing to the enhanced interfacial polarization, dipole polarization, polarization relaxation loss and conductance loss, the real part and imaginary part of complex permittivity increase from 10.40 to 52.73 and from 0.08 to 28.86 as the rGO content rose from 0 wt% to 4 wt%, respectively.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) has attracted huge scientific interest due to its unique physical and chemical properties as well as its wide‐scale applicability including facile synthesis and high yield. Here, we report preparation of nanocomposites based on GO and unsaturated polyester resin (PE). The synthesized samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and tensile strength measurements. A good dispersion of the GO sheets within the resin matrix was observed from the morphological analysis. A significant enhancement in mechanical properties of the PE/GO composites is obtained at low graphene loading. Around 76% improvement of tensile strength and 41% increase of Young's modulus of the composites are achieved at 3 wt % loading of GO. Thermal analysis of the composite showed a noticeable improvement in thermal stability in comparison to neat PE. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

In this study, graphite oxide (GO) is synthesized from natural graphite flakes by the modified Hummers method. Characterization by Fourier transform infrared, X‐ray photoelectron, Raman and ultraviolet‐visible spectroscopies, X‐ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis is conducted on GO to confirm the oxidation of graphite. Unplasticized and glycerol plasticized chitosan/graphene oxide (CS/GO) nanosheets nanocomposites with different GO loadings are prepared by solution casting. The combined effect of GO and glycerol on structure, thermal and mechanical properties of nanocomposite films is studied. GO nanosheets are well dispersed throughout the CS matrix due to the hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions between CS and GO nanosheets. The incorporation of GO within the CS matrix results in a decrease of the crystallinity, an improvement of thermal stability, and a significant enhancement of the stiffness and tensile strength that is emphasized by the glycerol. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel graphene nanomaterial functionalized by octa(aminopropyl) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OapPOSS) was synthesized and then confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Raman spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (SEM EDX), atomic force microscopy, and X‐ray diffraction. The obtained functionalized graphene (OapPOSS‐GO) was used to reinforce waterborne polyurethane (WPU) to obtain OapPOSS‐GO/WPU nanocomposites by in situ polymerization. The thermal, mechanical, and hydrophobic properties of nanocomposites as well as the dispersion behavior of OapPOSS‐GO in the polymer were investigated by TGA, a tensile testing machine, water contact angle tests, and field emission SEM, respectively. Compared with GO/WPU and OapPOSS/WPU composites, the strong interfacial interaction between OapPOSS‐GO and the WPU matrix facilitates a much better dispersion and load transfer from the WPU matrix to the OapPOSS‐GO. It was found that the tensile strength of the OapPOSS‐GO/WPU composite film with 0.20 wt % OapPOSS‐GO exhibited a 2.5‐fold increase in tensile strength, compared with neat WPU. Better thermal stability and hydrophobicity of nanocomposites were also achieved by the addition of OapPOSS‐GO. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2017 , 134, 44440.  相似文献

The current work reports the preparation and characterization of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite fibres reinforced with graphene reduced from graphene oxide (GO) by using oligomeric proanthocyanidin (OPC) as a reductant. After reduction, most of the oxygen‐containing groups were removed from the GO and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was prepared. As a result of combined OPC as a dispersant, rGO could be well dispersed in a dimethyl sulfoxide/H2O mixed solvent and in PVA matrix, and the PVA/rGO dispersion was wet spun followed by hot drawing to prepare continuous PVA/rGO composite fibres. The PVA/rGO composite fibres exhibited a significant enhancement of mechanical properties at low rGO loadings; in particular the tensile strength and Young's modulus of the 2.0 wt% rGO and PVA composite fibre increased to 244% and 294% respectively relative to neat PVA fibre. Moreover, the storage modulus (?10 °C) and Tg increased to 300% and 7.2 °C, respectively. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Polyimide (PI) and chemical modified graphene oxide nanocomposite films are prepared by in situ polymerization from solutions of pyromellitic dianhydride and 4,4′‐oxydianiline with various amount (0.5–2 wt%) of 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) functionalized graphene oxide (GO) sheets in dimethylacetamide. The APTS functionalized GO (GO‐APTS) is a versatile platform for polymer grafting, improving excellent dispersion of GO in the PI matrix, and forming strong interaction with the PI matrix. The GO‐APTS/PI nanocomposites exhibited improvement in mechanical and thermal properties by addition of a small amount of GO‐APTS. With the addition of a small amount of GO‐APTS (1.5 wt%) to PI matrix, mechanical properties with the tensile strength and Young's modulus improved by 45% and 15%, respectively. The thermal analysis showed that the thermal stability of PI was slightly enhanced by the incorporation of GO‐APTS (1.5 wt%). This approach provides a strategy for developing high performance functionalized GO‐polymer composite materials. POLYM. COMPOS., 37:907–914, 2016. © 2014 Society of Plastics Engineers  相似文献

How to preserve the structure integrity of graphene while enhance its dispersion and compatibility in matrix attracts the attention of researchers in graphene/polymer nanocomposite field. In this paper, methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), a kind of ionic liquids, was first used to non‐covalently functionalize graphene in the process of graphene oxide (GO) reduction. The as‐modified graphene (DMC‐rGO) was further incorporated into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix by solution casting technique to fabricate DMC‐rGO/PVA composites. The structure and properties of the obtained DMC‐rGO were investigated by X‐ray diffraction analysis (XRD), X‐ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Atomic force microscopy (AFM), and Raman test. The results showed that graphene could be successfully modified by DMC through ionic–π interaction and the structure integrity of the graphene could be reserved by this non‐covalently approach. Furthermore, after co‐reduction process, some hydroxyl groups were introduced into DMC‐rGO. In virtue of these intrinsic properties of DMC‐rGO, the fabricated DMC‐rGO/PVA composites exhibit considerable enhancements in mechanical properties and remarkable improvements in thermal stability, as well as the enhancement in electrical conductivity at low DMC‐rGO loading. This simple modification approach gives a new opportunity to improve the performances of graphene/polymer composites. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2017 , 134, 45006.  相似文献

Two classes of nanocomposites were synthesized using an unsaturated polyester resin as the matrix and sodium montmorillonite as well as an organically modified montmorillonite as the reinforcing agents. X‐ray diffraction pattern of the composites showed that the interlayer spacing of the modified montmorillonite expanded from 1.25 nm to 4.5 nm, indicating intercalation. Glass transition values of these composites increased from 72°C, in the unfilled unsaturated polyester, to 86°C in the composite with 10% organically modified montmorillonite. From Scanning Electron Microscopy, it is seen that the degree of intercalation/exfoliation of the modified montmorillonite is higher than in the unmodified one. The mechanical properties also supported these findings, since in general, the tensile modulus, tensile strength, flexural modulus, flexural strength and impact strength of the composites with modified montmorillonite were higher than the corresponding properties of the composites with unmodified montmorillonite. The tensile modulus, tensile strength, flexural modulus and flexural strength values showed a maximum, whereas the impact strength exhibited a minimum at approximately 3–5 wt% modified montmorillonite content. These results imply that the level of exfoliation may also exhibit a maximum with respect to the modified montmorillonite content. The level of improvement in the mechanical properties was substantial. Adding only 3 wt% organically modified clay improved the flexural modulus of unsaturated polyester by 35%. The tensile modulus of unsaturated polyester was also improved by 17% at 5 wt% of organically modified clay loading.  相似文献

Copper/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composites were prepared to improve the mechanical and tribological properties of copper without adversely affecting its physical properties in any significant manner. No hazardous chemicals were used for reduced graphene oxide production, which maintained the integrity of layers. For better dispersibility of rGO in the copper matrix, electroless deposition of copper was done on the activated and sensitized rGO surfaces. Different amounts of prepared Copper/rGO nanocomposites were then dispersed in bulk copper using ethanol and finally compacted using spark plasma sintering. The coefficient of friction of copper reinforced with 0.5 wt% of nanocomposite reduced by 77.5% compared to neat copper. The flexural strength of copper reinforced with 0.75 wt% of nanocomposite and modulus of 1 wt% of nanocomposite reinforced copper increased by 15.2% and 31.3%, respectively, with different strengthening mechanisms before and after yield point. The increase in hardness and strength of the material along with thin rGO films in the wear track accounted for the sharp decrease in the coefficient of friction for the composites. There was a minimal and gradual decrease in the physical properties (electrical and thermal conductivities) of the composites with an increase in the amount of reinforcement. The two-step composite fabrication process ensured better dispersion of rGO in the copper matrix, which resulted in even properties throughout the composite.  相似文献

In this study, we report an effective method to fabricate high‐performance polyimide (PI)‐based nanocomposites using 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane functionalized graphene oxide (APTSi‐GO) as the reinforcing filler. APTSi‐GO nanosheets exhibit good dispersibility and compatibility with the polymer matrix because of the strong interfacial covalent interactions. PI‐based nanocomposites with different loadings of functionalized graphene nanosheets (FGNS) were prepared by in situ polymerization and thermal imidization. The mechanical performance, thermal stability, and electrical conductivity of the FGNS/PI nanocomposites are significantly improved compared with those of pure PI by adding only a small amount of FGNS. For example, a 79% improvement in the tensile strength and a 132% increase in the tensile modulus are achieved by adding 1.5 wt % FGNS. The electrical and thermal conductivities of 1.5 wt % FGNS/PI are 2.6 × 10?3 S/m and 0.321 W/m·K, respectively, which are ~1010 and two times higher than those of pure PI. Furthermore, the incorporation of graphene significantly improves the glass‐transition temperature and thermal stability. The success of this approach provides a good rationale for developing multifunctional and high‐performance PI‐based composite materials. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composites containing functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (f‐MWCNTs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrid nanofillers have been investigated. The observed electrical percolation threshold of FHC is 0.8 wt% with maximum conductivity of 1.21 × 10?3 S/cm at 4 wt% of f‐MWCNTs. The electrical transport mechanism and magneto resistance studied of hybrid composites have also been investigated. Progressive addition of f‐MWCNTs in rGO/PMMA composite results increase in mechanical (tensile strength and Young's modulus) and thermal (thermal stability) properties of f‐MWCNTs‐rGO/PMMA hybrid nanocomposites (FHC). The increased mechanical properties are due to the efficient load transfer from PMMA matrix to f‐MWCNTs and rGO through better chemical interaction. The strong interaction between PMMA and f‐MWCNTs‐rGO in FHC is the main cause for improved thermal stability. POLYM. ENG. SCI., 59:1075–1083, 2019. © 2019 Society of Plastics Engineers  相似文献

Graphene oxide and furfuryl alcohol modified graphene nanosheets (G‐FA) were used to prepare graphene/novolak composites. Effect of graphene compatibilization on the properties of the composites especially carbon yield value is evaluated. Both types of graphene nanosheets were dispersed uniquely in the novolak matrix as proved by X‐ray diffraction analysis. However, modification of graphene sheets by furfuryl alcohol results in more improved dispersions. Thermogravimetric analysis confirms the elevated thermal stability of the nanocomposites in comparison with the neat novolak. In addition, G‐FA containing composites have higher carbon yield values. A shift in the wave number of characteristic bonds of graphene after oxidation and modification with furfuryl alcohol, O? H, C?O, and C? O bonds, are seen in the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectra. Raman results and scanning electron microscopy images show that graphene nanosheets reduced in size and wrinkled by oxidation and functionalization. Transmission electron microscopy image of the composite with 0.2 wt % of G‐FA reveals the presence of nanosheets with curvature. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Graphene (GE)‐based nanocomposites are emerging as a new class of materials that hold promise for many applications. In this article, we present a general approach for the preparation of GE/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposites. The basic strategy involved the preparation of graphite oxide from graphite, complete exfoliation of graphite oxide into graphene oxide sheets, followed by reduction to GE nanosheets, and finally, the preparation of the GE/PVA nanocomposites by a simple solution‐mixing method. The synthesized products were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry analysis. The GE nanosheets were well dispersed in the PVA matrix, and the restacking of the GE sheets was effectively prevented. Because of the strong interfacial interaction between PVA and GE, which mainly resulted from the hydrogen‐bond interaction, together with the improvement in the PVA crystallinity, the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the nanocomposites were obviously improved. The tensile strength was increased from 23 MPa for PVA to 49.5 MPa for the nanocomposite with a 3.25 wt % GE loading.

The graphene oxide (GO) was prepared by sonication‐induced exfoliation from graphite oxide, which was produced by oxidation from graphite flakes with a modified Hummer's method. The GO was then treated by hydrazine to obtain reduced graphene oxide (rGO). On the basis of the characterization results, the GO was successfully reduced to rGO. Acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR)–GO and NBR–rGO composites were prepared via a solution‐mixing method, and their various physical properties were investigated. The NBR–rGO nanocomposite demonstrated a higher curing efficiency and a change in torque compared to the gum and NBR–GO compounds. This agreed well with the crosslinking density measured by swelling. The results manifested in the high hardness (Shore A) and high tensile modulus of the NBR–rGO compounds. For instance, the tensile modulus at a 0.1‐phr rGO loading greatly increased above 83, 114, and 116% at strain levels of 50, 100, and 200%, respectively, compared to the 0.1‐phr GO loaded sample. The observed enhancement was highly attributed to a homogeneous dispersion of rGO within the NBR matrix; this was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analysis. However, in view of the high ultimate tensile strength, the NBR–GO compounds exhibited an advantage; this was presumably due to strong hydrogen bonding or polar–polar interactions between the NBR and GO sheets. This interfacial interaction between GO and NBR was supported by the marginal increase in the glass‐transition temperatures of the NBR compounds containing fillers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J.
