A conceptual framework for ASIC design

An attempt is made to gain a better understanding of the nature of ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) design. This is done from a decision-making perspective, in terms of three knowledge frames: the design process, the design hyperspace, and the design repertoire. The design process frame emphasizes the hierarchical design approach and presents the methodology as a formalization of the design process. The design hyperspace concept relates to the recognition of design alternatives. Analysis techniques for evaluating algorithmic and architectural alternatives are collected and classified to form the design repertoire. This conceptual framework is an effective instrument for bridging the widening gap between system designers and VLSI technology. It also provides a conceptual platform for the development of tools for high-level architectural designs

Knowledge-based design support system for computer communicationsystem

A knowledge-based design methodology for computer communication systems is proposed, along with a framework for a knowledge-based design support system. The design methodology is based on the user-requirements-oriented approach parameters. According to these requirements, formal specifications are defined as user's view virtual machine (UVM) and designer's view virtual machine (DVM). These virtual machines are constructed as knowledge models from the specifications. Due to the design methodology, a knowledge-based design support system for computer communication systems, called KDSS, is constructed. This design support system consists of many expert systems corresponding to the design phases given by methodology. A design example is given to illustrate the methodology     

超高速移位寄存器单元结构设计方法

本文以高速八位移位寄存器的研制为例,介绍了一种简便可行的专用集成电路单元结构设计方法。专用集成电路的设计目前有很多方法,但都基于有先进的设计工具和较为丰富的集成电路CAD库。没有这些设计环境,使用单元结构设计方法同样可以较快地设计专用集成电路。与通常的设计相比,这种方法具有设计周期短,电路性能高,设计成本低,版图布局对称等特点,是一种较好的专用集成电路设计方法。     

Design for control-a concurrent engineering approach formechatronic systems design

The well-accepted basis for developing a mechatronic system is a synergetic concurrent design process that integrates different engineering disciplines. In this paper, a general model is derived to mathematically describe the concurrent design of a mechatronic system. Based on this model, a concurrent engineering approach, called design for control (DFC), is formally presented for mechatronic systems design. Compared to other mechatronic design methodologies, DFC emphasizes obtaining a simple dynamic model of the mechanical structure by a judicious structure design and a careful selection of mechanical parameters. Once the simple dynamic model is available, in spite of the complexity of the mechanical structure, the controller design can be facilitated and better control performance can be achieved. Four design scenarios in application of DFC are addressed. A case study is implemented to demonstrate the effectiveness of DFC through the design and control of a programmable four-bar linkage     

Design of photonic crystal fibers for dispersion-related applications

A general procedure for design of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with desirable dispersion properties is presented. The design model is based on the combination of a rigorous vector mode solver and a scaling transformation for the dispersion properties of the PCFs. In comparison with the conventional design method, the new design procedure is more efficient and can be readily automated for the purpose of design optimization. Several applications of the design procedure, e.g., the design optimization for dispersion shifted fibers, dispersion flattened fibers, and dispersion compensation fibers, are demonstrated and discussed.

A simplified procedure for the optimal design of induction cooking appliances

By using the phase plane approach, a single switch resonant inverter (SSRI) for home cooking application is analysed in detail to provide a more straightforward and easy-to-use design tool. A new set of characteristic curves and design procedures are presented. The key results are presented in the form of normalized design graphs, so that a designer can use them without lengthy and complex calculations. These design graphs will make it faster and easier for a SSRI design engineer to obtain various design parameters. A simple design procedure is given and a design example for 125?W, 62.5?kHz induction cooker is presented for illustrative purposes. Computer simulations are also presented and compared with results measured on the operational prototype.
