The problem of expanding the Ti:sapphire laser wavelength range by generating difference (sum) frequencies is discussed. The authors present a high-efficiency coherent radiation source, based on a Ti:sapphire laser and a nonlinear LiIO3 crystal, operating in the spectral range from 0.34 to 2.3 μm. For this purpose a Ti:sapphire dual-wavelength laser has been developed where the process of self-synchronization of both channels has been realized. A difference frequency oscillator with 2w s-2w l and 2wl-w s, including the spectral range from 0.503 to 0.79 and from 0.83 to 2.3 μm, has been realized. A detailed study of the temporal characteristics of Ti:sapphire lasing is given, the development of methods for mixed pulse overlapping is discussed, and other subjects, such as configuration of widely tunable coherent radiation sources, are addressed 相似文献

A stable 40-GHz pulse train was successfully generated from a regeneratively mode-locked fiber laser. The laser was locked to an external signal by a phase-locked loop (PLL) technique. The resonant refractive and absorptive optical nonlinearities of a GaAs-AlGaAs single quantum-well waveguide are characterized. The recovery time of the absorptive nonlinearity is measured as 125 ps. All-optical operation of an integrated asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer is demonstrated, using intense ~50-ps pulses from a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. We report a new experimental approach to study the temporal gain dynamics of an actively mode-locked external-cavity laser diode. The experiment can be viewed as an electrical pump-optical probe technique. Picosecond time resolution is achieved by synchronizing the actively mode-locked semiconductor laser to a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. The transmission of the Ti:sapphire pulses through the active region of the laser diode is then measured as a function of photon energy and delay time. Our experiment allows to investigate the dynamics of the entire gain spectrum with picosecond time resolution since the Ti:sapphire laser is wavelength tunable. On the basis of these data we are able to determine directly the wavelength dependence of the differential gain. The results compare well with microscopic calculations. The implication for the mode-locking behavior of the diode laser is discussed 相似文献
