China to Increase Oil Processing Capacity Sharply

China plans to raise its annual crude oil processing capacity to 405 million tons by 2011 in the efforts to implement its restructuring and stimulus plans for the petrochemical industry. This will represent an increase of about 18.4 percent over its processing volume last year,which topped 342.1 million tons, according to the figures from National Bureau of Statistics. China is scheduled to build three to four major oil refining plants in the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China and the Pearl River Delta in southern China by 2011. Each plant would be capable of processing 20 million tons of oil annually.

China has abundant oil and gas resources offshore. At the end of the 20th century, CNOOC discovered enormous hydrocarbon resources in the offshore Bohai area. To date,CNOOC has established three major gasfields respectively in the Bohai Sea, East China Sea and the western South China Sea and has provided over 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Liaoning, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Hainan Island. The Ya 13-1 gasfield in particular, with proven natural gas reserves of 90 billion cubic meters,provides 3 billion cubic meters of gas to Hong Kong annually. Dongfang Gasfield, with an even larger volume of proven natural gas reserves, has pushed the offshore natural gas production to a magnificent scale following its commencement of operation.

Construction of the Second Weet-East Gas Pipeline Kicked Off

The operation of the second West-East Gas Pipeline was started in Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, and Shaanxi on February 22, 2008. It is the nation's first large-scale pipeline project introducing natural gas from other countries, which will be used to transmit the natural gas from the Middle Asia and Xinjiang to the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, and the middle east China.     

PetroChina and Kuwait to Construct Joint Venture Refinery in South China

PetroChina, China＇s largest oil producer and Asia＇s most profitable company, and Kuwait may build a planned joint venture oil refinery in South China＇s Pearl River Delta area, according to Guangdong Province＇s Executive Vice Governor Zhong Yangsheng, who told reporters at the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan Province in late April. However, he declined to provide further details. The Pearl River Delta region accounts for about a third of the nation＇s exports.

Hong Kong China Gas Makes Huge Investment in Wuhan

Hong Kong China Gas (0003HK) will invest HK$500 million for construction of gas pipeline network in Wuhan City. The company has selected Wuhan Gas Thermal Group, the largest gas supplier in the city, as its cooperation partner. This is the largest investment China Gas has made for construction of urban pipeline network in the inland cities. Wuhan, as important city in Central China with millions of people, is the first large city in the inland area which China Gas has established its business presence.

HK to Benefit from Imported LNG Project

Hong Kong is expected to buy one third of the mainland‘s US$ 10 billion worth of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) to satisfy its growing energy demand, Mark Qiu, chief financial officer of CNOOC, said recently. He added Hong Kong will buy 1 million tons of LNG a year from the mainland‘s first LNG terminal in southern Guangdong Province to fuel the power plants and household consumption in the region.……

我国的西气东输工程从新疆塔里木油田到上海，管线长度达4000公里，为确保对长江三角洲地区安全稳定的供气，就必须在长江三角洲地区建设地下储气库，从而保证在管线故障期间应急供气，同时利用地下储气库调节冬季和夏季用气量的差异，保证长输管线的高效、平稳运行。在长江三角洲地区经地库址选择，目前准备将常州盆地的金坛盐矿用以建设地下储气库。盐穴地下储气库主要选择在盐层或盐兵上，利用水溶方式形成地下溶腔进行储气，选择合适的建库地址要结合地质、水、工程等诸多因素，造腔过程中需要采取一系列控制技术，在造腔过程中还要及时采取声纳测井技术进行跟踪监测，造腔过程的检测及腔体完成后的密封安全性检测是气库能否投入运行的关键。

Shanghai Huayi Group Signed with the Partner in Anhui an Agreement on Cooperation in Production of Coal Chemicals

The Shanghai Huayi Group has signed with the partner in Anhui a collaborative agreement on establishment of a chemical park in Anhui province and construction of a large coal chemical integrated unit. This chemical park will be located in Wuwei county along the bank of Yangtze River. The phase 1 investment projects including a power plant and a 500 kt/a methanol plant are expected to come on stream in 2009- 2010. Other derivatives including the acetic acid and olefins projects will be commissioned in the later period. The investment in the phase 1 projects is estimated to be 4.4 billion RMB. According to the Shanghai Huayi Group, due to escalatirrg oil price and abundant coal reserves in China its future investment will be targeted mainly on the coal chemical routes.     

PETROCHINA PLACED US$2.44 B IN NEW H SHARES

Following a request made by PetroChina, China＇s largest oil and gas producer, Hong Kong-listed, to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, trading in the Company＇s H shares had been suspended with effect from 9：30 a.m. on 3 l August 2005. The Company issued a formal announcement concerning about a placing of H shares under the general mandate granted to the Board of Directors at the annual general meeting of the Company on 26 May 2005 to issue up to 20% of the aggregate nominal amount of the Company＇s H shares in issue on that date, being not exceeding 3,516,483,600 H shares.     

Application of FINS and multiplex PCR for detecting genuine abalone products

Abalones rank first on the list of the four treasures from the sea in Chinese cuisine. It is regarded as a tonic for yin-enrichment and nourishing the lungs and liver. Hong Kong is a major entrepôt of abalones, importing 48% of the global production volume. Rapid detection of substitutes in abalone products is essential for safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring proper delivery of healthcare. Two molecular tools are applied to authenticate abalone products. Firstly, forensically informative nucleotide sequencing (FINS) analysis based on mitochondrial 16S rDNA region of abalone products retailed in Hong Kong revealed that all sliced and one canned products matched the sequences of other gastropods but not Haliotis species, suggesting the presence of substitutions. Secondly, multiplex PCR with a Haliotis-specific primer was used to facilitate rapid and reliable exclusion of substitutes from abalone products.     

盐穴地下储气库选址与评价新技术

为了满足我国南方非油气主产区和天然气主要消费市场寻找有利盐矿建设盐穴地下储气库的需求,解决盐穴储气库库址筛选条件不清、建库条件评价的内容与深度不一致的问题,在分析国内外盐穴地下储气库资料的基础上,提出了地质、地表条件相结合的库址筛选原则,创建了盐穴地下储气库建库条件评价体系;然后利用上述筛选原则和评价体系对长江三角洲、中南地区、东南沿海等3大天然气主要消费市场的部分盐矿进行了筛选排序;进而对其中条件较好的淮安盐矿进行了建库条件评价。研究结果表明:①盐穴储气库库址筛选的原则包括构造、埋深、含盐地层厚度、氯化钠含量、顶板和储量等6项地质原则和地表条件、水源与卤水、与管网距离等3项其他原则,利用上述原则可以对筛选目标进行快速地优选排序;②建库条件评价体系包括对构造、含盐地层特征、密封性与稳固性、可溶性、储气规模以及地表条件等的综合评价。结论认为,所建立的评价新技术可以有效地指导盐穴地下储气库的选址与评价,为盐穴储气库的方案设计提供了依据和有力的技术支持,所提出的厚夹层利用先导性建议现场实施效果好;该项研究成果对于加快我国地下储气库的建设具有积极的意义。     

管道新设备、新技术在“西气东输”项目中的应用

“西气东输”工程项目以新疆塔里木油气田为主供气源,以长江三角洲地区为主要目标市场,以干线管道、重要支线和储气库为主体,连接沿线用户,形成横贯我国西东的天然气供气网络。截至2006年底,该项目共投产运营5800 km管道,累计输送天然气158×10⁸m³。作为国内首条大口径、长距离、高压力输气管道,“西气东输” 项目从设计、施工、运行等方面研发应用了多项新技术、新设备,对此进行梳理和总结可以为后续管道建设提供宝贵的借鉴经验。
