Langmuir probes (LP) are the most common diagnostics for the local measurement of very important plasma parameters such as plasma density, electron temperature, plasma potential and the electron energy distribution function (EEDF). In this paper the applicability of the first derivative Langmuir probe method in processing the electron part of the current-voltage (I–V) characteristics in IR-T1 Tokamak is reported. The EEDF at different radial positions in the edge region and Scrape off Layer (SOL) are derived and the values of the plasma potential, electron temperature and electron density are estimated. Results comparison between the first derivative method and Stangeby method shows a satisfactory agreement.  相似文献

This article presents the 2D simulation results of a nanosecond pulsed hollow cathode discharge obtained through a combination of fluid and kinetic models. The spatio-temporal evolution of the electron energy distribution function(EEDF) of the plasma column and electrical characteristics of the nanosecond pulsed hollow cathode discharge at a gas pressure of 5 Torr are studied. The results show that the discharge development starts with the formation of an ionization front at the anode surface. T...  相似文献

The ion source of the electron cyclotron resonance ion thruster(ECRIT) extracts ions from its ECR plasma to generate thrust, and has the property of low gas consumption(2 sccm,standard-state cubic centimeter per minute) and high durability. Due to the indispensable effects of the primary electron in gas discharge, it is important to experimentally clarify the electron energy structure within the ion source of the ECRIT through analyzing the electron energy distribution function(EEDF) of the plasma inside the thruster. In this article the Langmuir probe diagnosing method was used to diagnose the EEDF, from which the effective electron temperature, plasma density and the electron energy probability function(EEPF) were deduced. The experimental results show that the magnetic field influences the curves of EEDF and EEPF and make the effective plasma parameter nonuniform. The diagnosed electron temperature and density from sample points increased from 4 eV/2×10~(16)m~(-3) to 10 eV/4×10~(16)m(-3) with increasing distances from both the axis and the screen grid of the ion source. Electron temperature and density peaking near the wall coincided with the discharge process. However, a double Maxwellian electron distribution was unexpectedly observed at the position near the axis of the ion source and about 30 mm from the screen grid. Besides, the double Maxwellian electron distribution was more likely to emerge at high power and a low gas flow rate. These phenomena were believed to relate to the arrangements of the gas inlets and the magnetic field where the double Maxwellian electron distribution exits. The results of this research may enhance the understanding of the plasma generation process in the ion source of this type and help to improve its performance.  相似文献

Experimental results of a direct current enhanced inductively coupled plasma (DCE-ICP) source which consists of a typical cylindrical ICP source and a plate-to-grid DC electrode are reported. With the use of this new source, the plasma characteristic parameters, namely, electron density, electron temperature and plasma uniformity, are measured by Langmuir floating double probe. It is found that DC discharge enhances the electron density and decreases the electron temperature, dramatically. Moreover, the plasma uniformity is obviously improved with the operation of DC and radio frequency (RF) hybrid discharge.Furthermore, the nonlinear enhancement effect of electron density with DC + RF hybrid discharge is confirmed. The presented observation indicates that the DCE-ICP source provides an effective method to obtain high-density uniform plasma, which is desirable for practical industrial applications.  相似文献

Measurements of the plasma parameters of coaxial gridded hollow electrode alternating current(AC)discharge helium plasma were carried out using an improved probe diagnostic technology. The measurements were performed under well-defined discharge conditions(chamber geometry, input power,AC power frequency, and external electrical characteristics). The problems encountered in describing the characteristics of AC discharge in many probe diagnostic methods were addressed by using an improved probe diagnostics design. This design can also be applied to the measurement of plasma parameters in many kinds of plasma sources in which the probe potential fluctuates with the discharge current.Several parameters of the hollow electrode AC helium discharge plasma were measured, including the plasma density, electron temperature, plasma density profiles, and changes in plasma density at different input power values and helium pressures. The characteristics of the coaxial gridded hollow electrode plasma determined by the experiments are suitable for comparison with plasma simulations, and for use in many applications of hollow cathode plasma.  相似文献

The National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) has recently studied the use of a liquid lithium divertor (LLD). Divertor Langmuir probes have also been installed for making measurements of the local plasma conditions. A non-local probe interpretation method is used to supplement the classical probe interpretation and obtain measurements of the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) which show the occurrence of a hot-electron component. Analysis is made of two discharges within a sequence that exhibited changes in plasma fueling efficiency. It is found that the local electron temperature increases and that this increase is most strongly correlated with the energy contained within the hot-electron population. Preliminary interpretative modeling indicates that kinetic effects are likely in the NSTX scrape-off layer (SOL) plasma. The decrease in plasma fueling efficiency, increase in local temperature, and increase in hot-electron fraction are all consistent with an absorbing surface intercepting the SOL plasma.  相似文献

In this paper, a three-dimensional non-equilibrium steady arc model is used to investigate the temperature, velocity and electromagnetic field in multi-cathode arc torch, and the formation mechanism of a large-area, uniform and diffused arc plasma is analyzed. The numerical simulation results show that a large volume plasma region can be formed in the central region of the generator during discharge. During this process, the maximum electron temperature appears near the cathode and in the central convergence region, while the maximum heavy particle temperature only appears in the central convergence region. This phenomenon is consistent with the experimental arc images. Near the cathode tip, the arc column is in a contraction state. In the area slightly away from the cathode, the six arc columns begin to join together. In the plasma generator, there is a large-scale current distribution in all directions of X, Y and Z, forming a stable arc plasma with a wide range of diffusion. The calculated electron temperature distribution is in good agreement with the measured electron temperature. The results suggest that the largearea diffused arc plasma in the multi-cathode arc torch is the combined effect of current distribution, convection heat transfer and heat conduction.  相似文献

Experimental study of the low-pressure hybrid RF discharge with both inductive and capacitive channels was carried out. The RF power unit consists of inductor(antenna) and capacitor plates connected in parallel to the same RF power source. A separating capacitor Csepis included into the circuit between the antenna ends and the lead connected to the discharge capacitor plate in order to prevent the closing of the capacitive circuit through direct current by inductor and to control the contribution of capacitive channel to discharge sustaining. It is shown that at low power of the RF power source, power coupling to the discharge mainly occurs through the capacitive channel. Increasing the power of the RF power source increases the power coupled in the inductive channel, electron density, and current flowing through the capacitive channel. This leads to increasing voltage drop on the separating capacitor and partial cutoff of the capacitive channel. At separating capacitance values below certain value(below 50 pF in the present experiments), the self-bias of the loaded plate of the discharge capacitor becomes positive indicating that the thickness of the electrode sheath of the loaded electrode decreases compared to thickness of the sheath of the grounded electrode. The thickness of the space-charge sheath of the grounded electrode decreases with increasing power coupled to the plasma. At separating capacitance below 50 pF, higher harmonics of the RF voltage and current are actively generated in the capacitive discharge channel. Increasing the separating capacitance leads to decreasing electron density, increasing effective electron temperature and more effective RF energy coupling to plasma due to increasing relative importance of the capacitive discharge channel.  相似文献

Langmuir probe measurements of radio frequency (RF) magnetic pole enhanced inductively coupled (MaPE-ICP) argon plasma were accomplished to obtain the electron number densities and electron temperatures. The measurements were carried out with a fixed RF frequency of 13.56 MHz in a pressure range of 7.5 mTorr to 75 mTorr at an applied RF power of 10 W and 100 W. These results are compared with a global (volume average) model. The results show good agreement between theoretical and experimental measurements. The electron number density shows an increasing trend with both RF power and pressure while the electron temperature shows decreasing trend as the pressure increases. The difference in the plasma potential and floating potential as a function of electron temperature measured from the electrical probe and that obtained theoretically shows a linear relation with a small difference in the coefficient of proportionality. The intensity of the emission line at 750.4 nm due to 2p 1 → 1s 2 (Paschen’s notation) transition closely follows the variation of n e with RF power and filling gas pressure. Measured electron energy probability function (EEPF) shows that electron occupation changes mostly in the high-energy tail, which highlights close similarity of 750.4 nm argon line to n e .  相似文献

A two-dimensional hybrid simulation scheme is proposed to study the characteristics of dual-frequency (DF) capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) discharge based on the geometry of real device. Given the experimental parameters for argon plasma, the output from the fluid module such as ion density, number flux, electron temperature and the Monte-Carlo collision (MCC) results of ion energy distribution function (IEDF) as well as electron energy distribution function (EEDF) are obtained and discussed in detail. A novel complete floating double probe is designed to measure both density and temperature of electron and a quadrupole mass spectrometer is also equipped for IEDF investigations. The measurements on the density of bulk plasma, electron temperature and IEDF agree well, qualitatively, with the simulated results. A comparison with experimental results indicates that, since the structure of real device is taken into account, this model is capable of describing the global dynamic characteristics occurred in DF-CCP and presenting more reliable results than the model with an ideal chamber structure.  相似文献

In this study, plasma density measurements were performed near the plume region of the remote plasma source (RPS) in Ar/ NF3 gas mixtures using a microwave cutoff probe. The measured plasma density is in the range of 10 10 –10 11 cm −3 in the discharge conditions with RPS powers of 2–4 kW and gas pressures of 0.87–4 Torr. The plasma density decreased with increasing gas pressures and RPS powers under various Ar/ NF3 mixing ratios. This decrease in the plasma density measured at the fixed measurement position (plume region) can be understood by the reduction of the electron energy relaxation length with increases in the gas pressures and mixing ratio of NF3/(Ar / NF3). We also performed downstream etching of silicon and silicon oxide films in this system. The etch rate of the silicon films significantly increases while the silicon oxide is slightly etched with the gas pressures and powers. It was also found that the etch rate strongly depends on the wafer position on the processing chamber electrode, and that the etch selectivity reached 96–131 in the discharge conditions of RF powers (3730–4180 W) and gas pressures (3.6–4 Torr).  相似文献

Determination of the negative ion number density of O~-_2and O~-in a DC discharge of oxygen plasma was made employing Langmuir probe in conjunction with eclipse laser photodetachment technique. The temporal evolution of the extra electrons resulting from the photodetachment of O~-_2and O~-were used to evaluate the negative ion number density. The ratio of O~-_2number density to O~-varied from 0.03 to 0.22.Number density of both O~-_2and O~-increased with increasing power and decreased as the pressure was increased.Electron number density was evaluated from the electron energy distribution function(EEDF)using the I–V recorded characteristic curves.Electron temperature between 2 and 2.7 eV were obtained.Influence of the O_2(a~1Δ_g)metastable state is discussed.  相似文献

A large-area high-power radio-frequency(RF) driven ion source was developed for positive and negative neutral beam injectors at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI). The RF ion source consists of a driver region, including a helical antenna and a discharge chamber, and an expansion region. RF power can be transferred at up to 10 kW with a fixed frequency of 2 MHz through an optimized RF matching system. An actively water-cooled Faraday shield is located inside the driver region of the ion source for the stable and steady-state operations of high-power RF discharge. Plasma ignition of the ion source is initiated by the injection of argongas without a starter-filament heating, and the argon-gas is then slowly exchanged by the injection of hydrogen-gas to produce pure hydrogen plasmas. The uniformities of the plasma parameter, such as a plasma density and an electron temperature, are measured at the lowest area of the driver region using two RF-compensated electrostatic probes along the direction of the shortand long-dimensions of the driver region. The plasma parameters will be compared with those obtained at the lowest area of the expansion bucket to analyze the plasma expansion properties from the driver region to the expansion region.  相似文献

The enhancement and optimization of H extraction through argon and magnesium seeding of hydrogen discharges in a magnetized sheet plasma source are reported. The paper first presents the modification of the production chamber into a hexapole multicusp configuration resulting in decreased power requirements, improved plasma confinement and longer filament lifetime. By this, a wider choice of discharge currents for sustained quiescent plasmas is made possible. Second, the method of adding argon to the hydrogen plasma similar to the scheme in Abate and Ramos [Y. Abate, H. Ramos, Rev. Sci. Instr. 71 (10) (2000) 3689] was performed to find the optimum conditions for H formation and extraction. Using an E × B probe, H yields were investigated at varied argon-hydrogen admixtures, different discharge currents and spatial points relative to the core plasma. The optimum H current density extracted at 3.0 cm from the plasma core using 3.0 A plasma current with 10% argon seeding increased by a factor of 2.42 (0.63 A/m2) compared to the measurement of Abate and Ramos [Y. Abate, H. Ramos, Rev. Sci. Instr. 71 (10) (2000) 3689]. Third, the argon-hydrogen plasma at the extraction chamber is seeded with magnesium. Mg disk with an effective area of 22 cm2 is placed at the extraction region’s anode biased 175 V with respect to the cathode. With Mg seeding, the optimum H current density at the same site and discharge conditions increased by 4.9 times (3.09 A/m2). The enhancement effects were analyzed vis-à-vis information gathered from the usual Langmuir probe (electron temperature and density), electron energy distribution function (EEDF) and the ensuing dissociative attachment (DA) reaction rates at different spatial points for various plasma discharges and gas ratios. Investigations on the changes in the effective electron temperature and electron density indicate that the enhancement is due to increased density of low-energy electrons in the volume, conducive for DA reactions. With Mg, the density of electrons with electron temperature of about 3 eV increased 3 orders of magnitude from 2.76 × 1012 m−3 to 2.90 × 1015 m−3.  相似文献

The high magnetic field helicon experiment system is a helicon wave plasma(HWP)source device in a high axial magnetic field(B_0)developed for plasma–wall interactions studies for fusion reactors. This HWP was realized at low pressure(5?×?10~(-3)?-?10 Pa)and a RF(radio frequency,13.56 MHz)power(maximum power of 2 k W)using an internal right helical antenna(5 cm in diameter by 18 cm long)with a maximum B_0of 6300 G.Ar HWP with electron density~10~(18)–10~(20)m~(-3)and electron temperature~4–7 e V was produced at high B_0 of 5100 G,with an RF power of 1500 W.Maximum Ar~+ion flux of 7.8?×?10~(23)m~(-2)s~(-1)with a bright blue core plasma was obtained at a high B_0 of 2700 G and an RF power of 1500 W without bias.Plasma energy and mass spectrometer studies indicate that Ar~+ion-beams of 40.1 eV are formed, which are supersonic(~3.1c_s).The effect of Ar HWP discharge cleaning on the wall conditioning are investigated by using the mass spectrometry. And the consequent plasma parameters will result in favorable wall conditioning with a removal rate of 1.1?×?10~(24)N_2/m~2 h.  相似文献

Dual-electrode capacitively coupled plasma discharges are investigated here to lower the non-uniformity of plasma density. The dual-electrode structure proposed by Jung splits the electrode region and increases the flexibility of fine tuning non-uniformity. Different RF voltages, frequencies, phase-shifts and electrode areas are simulated and the influences are discussed. RF voltage and electrode area have a non-monotonic effect on non-uniformity, while frequency has a monotonic effect. Phase-shift has a cyclical influence on non-uniformity. A special combination of 224 V voltage and 11% area ratio with 10 MHz lowers the non-uniformity of the original set(200 V voltage and 0% area ratio with 10 MHz) by 46.5%. The position of the plasma density peak at the probe line has been tracked and properly tuning the phase-shift can obtain the same trace as tuning frequency or voltage.  相似文献

In this study, numerical simulation and discharge current tests were conducted on an inductively coupled radio frequency (RF) plasma cathode. Numerical simulations and experimental measurements were performed to study the factors influencing the electron extraction characteristics, including the gas type, gas flow, input power and extracting voltage. The simulation results were approximately consistent with the experimental results. We experimentally found that the RF input power mainly determines the extracted electron current. An electron current greater than 1 A was acquired at 270 W (RF input power), 2.766 sccm (xenon gas). Our results prove that an inductively coupled RF plasma cathode can be reasonable and feasible, particularly for low power electric propulsion devices.  相似文献

Plasma source is the most important part of the laboratory plasma platform for fundamental plasma experimental research. Barium oxide coated cathode plasma source is well recognized as an effective technique due to its high electron emission current. An indirectly heated oxide coated cathode plasma source has been constructed on a linear magnetized plasma device. The electron emission current density can reach 2 A/cm 2 to 6 A/cm 2 in pulsed mode within pulse length 5–20 ms. A 10 cm diameter, 2 m long plasma column with density 10 18 m −3 to 10 19 m 3 and electron temperature Te ≈ 3–7 eV is produced. The spatial uniformity of the emission ability is less than 4% and the discharge reproducibility is better than 97%. With a wide range of the plasma parameters, this kind of plasma source provides great flexibility for many basic plasma investigations. The detail of construction and initial characterization of oxide coated cathode are described in this paper.  相似文献

Based on a sandwich-like structure, a microhollow cathode discharge device is designed, and a stable discharge is realized by injecting helium into the discharge region of the device at atmospheric pressure. A wall probe is used to determine the relevant parameters of the plasma generated by the device, such as particle density, electron temperature, and the electron distribution function. At the same time, a sink parameter is used to correct the electron distribution function of the wall-probe diagnostics, and to further study the relationship between electron density and the electron temperature of the corrected electron distribution function.  相似文献

Hollow cathodes serve as electron sources in Hall thrusters, ion thrusters and other electric propulsion systems. One of the vital problems in their application is the cathode erosion. However, the basic erosion mechanism and the source of high-energy ions cause of erosion are not fully understood. In this paper, both potential measurements and simulation analyses were performed to explain the formation of high-energy ions.A high-speed camera,a single Langmuir probe and a floating emissive probe were used to determine the steady and oscillatory plasma properties in the near-field plume of a hollow cathode. The temporal structure, electron temperature, electron density, and both static and oscillation of plasma potentials of the plume have been obtained by the diagnostics mentioned above. The experimental results show that there exists a potential hill (about 30 V) and also severe potential oscillations in the near-plume region. Moreover,a simple 2D particle-in-cell model was used to analyze the energy transition between the potential hill and/or its oscillations and the ions. The simulation results show that the energy of ions gained from the static potential background is about 20 eV,but it could reach to 60 eV when the plasma oscillates.  相似文献
