The objective was to determine effects of different concentrations of iodophor teat dips on milk iodine residues, when teat dips were used both premilking and postmilking. Eighty cows in each of seven herds were assigned to one of four treatments. Each treatment received postmilking teat dip at .1 or 1% iodophor concentration. Two groups received no premilking dip, and the other two groups received premilking teat dip at the same concentration as the postmilking teat dip. Premilking teat dipping was followed by manual drying of teats. Noniodophor postmilking dips and no premilking inodophor udder sanitizers were used during an 8-d adjustment period. Milk was collected for milk iodine determination from each cow from weigh jars or milk meters at p.m. milkings during the last 3 d of the adjustment period and d 4, 6, and 8 of the treatment period. Premilking and postmilking teat dipping with .1% iodophor dip did not significantly increase milk iodine residue above postmilking teat dipping with .1% iodophor dip alone. However, 1% iodophor postmilking teat dip significantly increased milk iodine residue over use of .1% iodophor dip used as a premilking and postmilking teat dip. Adding a 1% iodophor premilking teat dip significantly increased iodine residues.  相似文献

A gel was developed and tested for cleaning and sanitizing cows teats for milking. Thirty lactating Holstein cows were divided into three groups of 10 each and assigned to three premilking hygiene treatments for 10 wk as follows: 1) cleaning teats with gel, allowing 30 s of contact time, and wiping residual gel off with paper towel; 2) washing teats with water and drying them with paper towel; 3) washing teats with water, drying with paper towel, predipping with .5% iodophor solution, allowing 30 s of contact time, and drying with paper towel. Individual cow composite milk and teat end swab samples were collected. The gel and predip treatments resulted in less bacterial contamination of milk and teat ends. The gel treatment had an advantage over wash and predip treatments in lower SCC and reduced mastitis. Parlor throughput was greatest for gel and wash treatments. The wash treatment group had highest SCC, bacteria in milk and on teat ends, and mastitis. Milk iodine content was low and similar for the three treatments. Daily milk production and fat and protein percentages were not affected by treatments. The gel treatment was effective, efficient, and provided good hygiene.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of dietary supplementation of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and n-6 PUFA on dry matter intake (DMI), energy balance, oxidative stress, and performance of transition cows. Forty-five multiparous Holstein dairy cows with similar parity, body weight (BW), body condition score (BCS), and milk yield were used in a completely randomized design during a 56-d experimental period including 28 d prepartum and 28 d postpartum. At 240 d of pregnancy, cows were randomly assigned to one of the 3 isoenergetic and isoprotein dietary treatments, including a control ration containing 1% hydrogenated fatty acid (CON), a ration with 8% extruded soybean (HN6, high n-6 PUFA source), and a ration with 3.5% extruded flaxseed (HN3; high n-3 PUFA source). The HN6 and HN3 diets had an n-6/n-3 ratio of 3.05:1 and 0.64:1 in prepartum cows and 8.16:1 and 1.59:1 in postpartum cows, respectively. During the prepartum period (3, 2, and 1 wk before calving), DMI, DMI per unit of BW, total net energy intake, and net energy balance were higher in the HN3 than in the CON and NH6 groups. During the postpartum period (2, 3, and 4 wk after calving), cows fed HN3 and HN6 diets both showed increasing DMI, DMI as a percentage of BW, and total net energy intake compared with those fed the CON diet. The BW of calves in the HN3 group was 12.91% higher than those in the CON group. Yield and nutrient composition of colostrum (first milking after calving) were not affected by HN6 or HN3 but milk yield from 1 to 4 wk of milking was significantly improved compared with CON. During the transition period, BW, BCS, and BCS changes were not affected. Cows fed the HN6 diet had a higher plasma NEFA concentration compared with the CON cows during the prepartum period. Feeding HN3 reduced the proportion of de novo fatty acids and increased the proportion of preformed long-chain fatty acids in regular milk. In addition, the n-3 PUFA-enriched diet reduced the n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio in milk. In conclusion, increasing the n-3 fatty acids concentration in the diet increased both DMI during the transition period and milk production after calving, and supplementing n-3 fatty acids was more effective in mitigating the net energy balance after calving.  相似文献

A technology of automatically applying a postmilking teat dip via the milking machine prior to machine detachment was compared to manual postmilking teat dipping with a teat dip cup for effects on new IMI and iodine content in milk. One hundred twenty Holstein cows were experimentally challenged in a 22-wk trial with Streptococcus agalactiae and Staphylococcus aureus and 148 Holstein cows were experimentally challenged with Streptococcus uberis in another 22-wk trial. The bacterial suspensions were applied to teats of all of the cows after premilking udder preparation and immediately prior to milking machine attachment. In both trials, cows were divided among four treatments: no postmilking teat dipping; manual postmilking teat dipping with a proven efficacious iodophor teat dip; manual postmilking teat dipping with an iodophor teat dip formulated for an automatic postmilking teat dipping system; and automatically postmilking teat dipping via milking machines with an iodophor teat dip formulated for the automatic postmilking teat dipping system. The postmilking teat dipping treatments reduced new Staph. aureus IMI by 64.5, 76.5, and 88.2%; new Strep. agalactiae IMI by 61.5, 77.8, and 94.4%; and new Strep. uberis IMI by 63.5, 82.5, and 93.8%, respectively, against the treatment of no postmilking teat dipping. The treatment applying the postmilking teat dip automatically via milking machines had the lowest number of new IMI caused by the three pathogens. Teat end and teat skin condition were characterized as normal at the end of the study with no differences between treatments. There were no differences with regard to iodine content in milk between treatments.  相似文献

Prototypes of the automatic-dipping system Apollo were tested with the IQ milking cluster (GEA Farm Technologies GmbH, Bönen, Germany) to determine the teat-dip residues in the milk and the dipping performance (number of dipped teats) of the system compared with manual (hand) dipping. A laboratory trial and a field trial at a dairy farm were performed to determine the iodine level in the milk when an iodine-based teat dip was used. In the laboratory trial, the mean difference between the 53 paired samples (sampling upstream and downstream of the cluster) was 18.9 ± 3.18 μg of iodine/kg. A field trial at a 300-cow commercial dairy farm consisted of taking 2 sets of individual cow milk samples 6 wk apart. Three weeks before the second test day, the iodine-based teat dip was replaced by an iodine-free teat dip. The mean difference between the 2 sets of 55 samples was 25.1 ± 5.22 μg/kg. Compared with manually applying an iodine-based teat dip, the increase in the iodine content resulting from the use of the tested cluster with automatic dipping was very low and would not be an issue of food safety. The dipping performance tests were completed on the same 300-cow commercial dairy farm as the field iodine level trial was performed. In total, 4,541 teats from 307 cows were observed on 4 consecutive days, showing a 91.6 ± 1.3% success rate.  相似文献

The primary aim of this research was to describe the association between milking interval (MI) and milk production rate (MPR) at the quarter level in a large commercial farm using an automatic milking system. A secondary aim was to determine whether a 2-h decrease in MI would increase MPR at the cow level in midlactation multiparous cows. Six months of data from 1,280 cows were used to assess the association between MI (h) and quarter MPR (kg/h). Increasing MI was associated with decreased MPR for early, mid, and late lactation, both primiparous and multiparous cows, and all 4 quarter positions and across time. The decrease in MPR is approximately 2%/h of increasing MI for multiparous cows and 1.5%/h for primiparous cows. Regardless of quarter, multiparous cows had a greater MPR than primiparous cows, and rear quarters had greater MPR than front quarters. An experiment to test the causal relationship between changing MI and cow-level MPR was conducted using 26 animal pairs matched on MI, days in milk, and milk yield. During the 21-d treatment period, the average MI of treatment cows was decreased by 2.4 h compared with control cows. In both the 21-d treatment and 42-d posttreatment periods, no significant difference was found in cow-level MPR between the treatment and control groups. Despite the negative association between increasing MI and MPR being consistent across all assessed days in milk windows and all quarters, results from this experiment suggest that intervention to decrease MI might require an MI change greater than 2 h or be applied in early lactation to significantly increase MPR.  相似文献

Premilking teat preparations using individual paper or cotton towels for either 6 or 20 s to reduce bacteria and iodine residues from teat surfaces were determined through Latin square designs applied to 50 cows. A cotton towel used for 20 s was most effective in cleaning teats, probably because of the physical structure of the towel, physical action on teat surface, and scrubbing of the teat ends. Premilking teat preparation of 6 s was inadequate to clean teats and to avoid iodine residues in milk. Teat end erosions increased iodine residue in milk. Two days after a treatment period, iodine content in milk from iodophor-dipped groups was similar to that of the undipped control group. Against our expectation, teat dipping with a .25% iodophor teat dip caused higher iodine residue in milk than a .50% iodophor teat dip. Differences in formulations and inert ingredients of iodophor teat dips indicate a need for further studies.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to compare the effects of calcareous marine algae (CMA; Acid Buf, Celtic Sea Minerals) with a limestone-based control on feed intake, milk production, energy balance, serum mineral metabolites, and inflammatory markers in transition dairy cows. Twenty-two multiparous and 10 primiparous cows were assigned to 2 treatments from 25 d before expected parturition until 42 d postpartum. Cows were assigned to treatment according to a randomized complete block design based on parity, pre-experimental body condition score, previous 305-d milk yield, and either fat + protein yield (for multiparous cows) or predicted transmitting ability for milk yield and fat + protein yield (for primiparous cows). Cows were fed a negative dietary cation-anion difference [?50 mEq/kg] total mixed ration (TMR) based on corn silage, grass silage, and straw during the prepartum period and a 50:50 forage:concentrate TMR based on grass silage, corn silage, and concentrate during the postpartum period. The 2 dietary treatments consisted of a control (CON), which contained limestone as the primary calcium source, and CMA, in which limestone was replaced by CMA at 0.42% and 0.47% of dry matter for the pre- and postpartum periods, respectively. The dietary treatments were fed as 2 different concentrate pellets added to the TMR. Cows fed the CMA diet had higher dry matter intake in both the prepartum (+1.08 kg) and postpartum (+0.94 kg) periods compared with cows fed the CON diet. Fat yield (+0.11 kg), fat concentration (+0.43%), and 4% fat-corrected milk (+1.56 kg) were higher in cows fed CMA than in cows fed CON. The concentration of plasma serum amyloid A was reduced and that of serum P was increased on the CMA treatment compared with the CON treatment. These findings demonstrate the benefits of supplementing CMA to dairy cows during the transition period compared with a CON treatment containing limestone as the primary Ca source.  相似文献

Four different methods of teat preparation during milking in an automatic milking system were studied in 2 experiments on Red Holstein/German Fleckvieh cross-breed cows. Milking routines used were milking: 1) without premilking teat preparation; 2) with one cleaning cycle (58 to 60 s) with cold (13 to 15 degrees C) water; 3) with one cleaning cycle with warm water (30 to 32 degrees C); or 4) with 2 cleaning cycles (122 s) with warm water. In experiment 1, milking characteristics were evaluated and milking routines were randomly assigned to 62 cows during 3 measuring periods of 24 h each. In experiment 2, 10 randomly selected cows were assigned to the same milking routines during 4 d and blood samples for oxytocin (OT) determination were taken during milking in addition to milk flow recording. Milk production, peak flow rate, total, and quarter milk yields showed no differences among treatments. Premilking preparation with cold water compared with warm water showed no differences in OT release, milk yield, peak flow rate, main milking time, average flow rate, or time until main milk flow. Baseline OT concentrations were consistently low. At the start of teat cup attachment without premilking teat preparation OT concentrations remained on the basal level but were elevated in all other treatments. By 30 s from the start of milking, OT concentrations were markedly increased in all treatments and were no longer different between treatments. In conclusion, the teat cleaning device used in the automatic milking system, either with warm or cold water, was suitable to induce milk ejection in cows before the start of milking.  相似文献

The retention and release of iodophor-derived iodine from milking machine materials was studied using 131I-labelled iodophor and small tubes of materials used in the construction of milking machines. After one hour's exposure to this iodophor, plastic retained 56% of the 131I label, followed by silicone rubber (31%), rubber (18%), steel (2%) and glass (0.5%). Water rinsing after exposure to iodophor reduced these values to 49%, 26%, 14%, 0.5% and 0.3% respectively. When the tubes were exposed to the iodophor and subsequently rinsed with milk, rubber released the largest amount of iodine into milk (0.099 μg I cm?2), followed by silicone (0.038 μg I cm?2), plastic (0.010 μg I cm?2), glass (0.009 μg I cm?2) and steel (0.002 μg I cm?2). The contact time of iodophor with a particular material influenced both the amount of iodine adsorbed, and the amount subsequently released into milk. The importance of iodine adsorption and desorption phenomena in contributing iodine to milk was compared to that iodine in milk arising from inadequate drainage of iodophor solution from a milking machine, and found to be comparable in magnitude.  相似文献

Grass-based production systems use concentrate supplementation primarily when pasture quality and availability have declined. Barley is a common concentrate ingredient; however, oat grain grows well in Ireland, is a source of lipids and fiber, and may provide an alternative to barley. The antioxidant α-tocopherol (α-TOC) plays a role in cell membrane structure, and it has the potential to improve tight junction structures of the mammary gland that deteriorate in late lactation. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of cereal type and α-TOC level on milk yield, milk composition, rumen fermentation, and N excretion in late-lactation dairy cows at pasture and when housed indoors on grass silage. Forty-eight Holstein Friesian dairy cows were blocked on days in milk (+185 d in milk) and balanced for parity, pre-experimental milk yield, milk composition, and body condition score and assigned to 1 of 4 dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design (n = 12). The dietary treatments were control (C) base diet; base diet + barley-based concentrate + low α-TOC (350 IU/kg) (B); base diet + oat-based concentrate + low α-TOC (350 IU/kg) (O); and base diet + oat-based concentrate + high α-TOC (1,050 IU/kg) (O+T). Following a 14-d acclimation period, diets were offered for a 49-d experimental period at pasture (P1) and a 21-d experimental period indoors (P2). The base diet was grazed grass in P1 and grass silage in P2. In P2, cows on C also received 2.65 kg (dry matter) of a standard concentrate. In P1, supplementation increased milk and milk solids yield (B: 20.7 kg/d, 1.74 kg/d; O: 20.6 kg/d, 1.81 kg/d; O+T: 20.5 kg/d, 1.77 kg/d, respectively) compared with C (17.8 kg/d, 1.60 kg/d). Cows offered B had a lower milk fat (4.60%) concentration than C (5.00%) and O (4.90%). In P2, cereal type and α-TOC level did not alter milk production. In conclusion, concentrate supplementation increased milk and milk solids yield and cows offered O had a higher milk fat concentration than cows offered B. Increasing the level of α-TOC had no major effect on production parameters measured in P1 or in P2.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of forestripping as a premilking stimulation technique on milk yield, milking unit attachment time, and milk flow rates in Holstein dairy cattle. Multiparous Holstein cows (n = 24) were divided into two groups (HPE, high producing, early lactation; LPL, low producing, late lactation) based on prestudy milk yield and stage of lactation. Within the production group, cows were randomly assigned into treatment (n = 6) and control groups (n = 6) in a switchback design. Cows were milked twice daily and treatments were switched after 20 milkings. Premilking udder preparation for the treatment group was as follows: forestripping, predipping with 0.5% iodine, and drying with paper towels followed by unit attachment. Udder preparation for the control group was identical except forestripping was not performed. Data were analyzed by using the PROC Means and PROC Mixed models described by SAS. During the study, cows in the HPE group produced significantly more milk and had longer milking unit attachment times compared with cows in the LPL group. The milk flow rate was 0.36 kg/min faster for the HPE cows compared with the LPL cows. There was no significant effect of order of treatment administration on any outcome variable. There were no significant differences in milk yield, milk unit attachment time, or milk flow for animals that were forestripped compared with animals that were not forestripped. In this study, the addition of forestripping to an otherwise acceptable premilking udder preparation routine did not increase milking performance of multiparous Holstein dairy cows.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of dietary dl-malic acid (MA) supplementation on feed intake, methane (CH4) emissions, and performance of mid lactation Holstein-Friesian cows at pasture. Twenty-four (6 primiparous and 18 multiparous) mid- to late-lactation cows (206 ± 65 d in milk) grazing a mixed-species grass sward were blocked on parity, days in milk, and pretrial milk yield, and randomly allocated within block to 1 of 2 dietary treatments offered twice daily at milking in 2 equal portions (6 kg/d in total): a control concentrate (0 g/d of MA) and a concentrate supplemented with MA (480 g/d of MA) over a 6-wk period. Cows were allowed a 3-wk acclimation period followed by a 5-d CH4 measurement period. Enteric CH4 emissions were estimated using the sulfur hexafluoride tracer gas technique, and herbage intake was measured using the n-alkane technique. Dietary supplementation with MA did not affect voluntary intake of herbage or total dry matter intake, body weight gain, milk yield, fat-corrected milk yield, or daily CH4 production. These results suggest that there is little benefit to be gained from the dietary supplementation of dairy cows at pasture with MA at least within the inclusion rates used in this study.  相似文献

Recent research into how the pulsation type affects goat milking concluded that alternate pulsation (AP) and simultaneous pulsation (SP) similarly affect the milking efficiency (milking duration and milking fractioning) and teat end condition after milking when both pulsations are employed in short-term experiments. However, the use of SP in high pipeline milking machines led to higher vacuum fluctuations, which, in the long term, may entail a potential risk factor for the mammary gland health status. The aim of this work was to study how AP and SP affect the milk yield, mammary gland health status, and milk composition of goats in the long term, during a complete lactation period, in a high pipeline milking machine. With this objective, 100 Murciano-Granadina goats with similar parturition dates (4 ± 1 postpartum weeks) were divided into 2 similar groups (50 goats per group) according their parity, milk yield, mammary gland health status, and milking duration (after a 15-d pre-experimental period). Throughout the experimental period (7 mo), one group was milked using SP and the other group using AP. Every month, samplings were carried out of the variables related to sanitary status of the mammary gland, milk fractioning, milking duration, average and maximum milk flows, milk composition, teat end status, vacuum fluctuations at the short milk tube during milking, and pulsation tests. Results showed that the use of SP in a high pipeline milking machine showed higher vacuum fluctuations without involving any difference in the other variables studied. We concluded that the use of AP in the milking of Murciano-Granadina goats offers little improvement of the milking performance and increases the investment required for installation and maintenance of the milking machines.  相似文献

Incidence of intramammary infection is highly correlated to the number of mastitis pathogens on the teat end at milking. The objective of premilking teat sanitation is to reduce the microbial population in order to minimize the probability of mastitis. Milking time hygiene is extremely important due to the potential interaction between milking machine functions and microflora of teat skin. Current recommended procedures for premilking udder preparation range from water hose wash, manual drying, wet paper towel wash plus paper towel dry, to predipping alone plus paper towel dry. Regardless of udder cleaning procedure, manual drying of teats is a significant factor in reduction of total bacteria counts. Predipping with iodine-based sanitizers, .1 to .25% iodine concentration, reduced intramammary infection with environmental pathogens 51% compared with good udder preparation in a field trial on four commercial dairy farms. Infections by coagulase-negative staphylococci were not reduced by predipping. Effective premilking udder hygiene is essential for the production of high quality milk. Bacteria, preincubation and pasteurized milk counts are reduced. Sediment is minimized. Incidence of mastitis is reduced. Proper udder hygiene procedures should be practiced at every milking.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of controlled daily alternations in dietary starch level on changes in rumen environment, blood, urine, and milk metabolites of dairy cows. Six multiparous mid-lactation Holstein cows were used in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design with 14-d periods and 3 alternating levels of dietary starch as treatments. Each 14-d period consisted of a 7-d baseline period and 7-d alternating period where diets alternated day to day. During the baseline period, all cows were fed a control diet containing 21% starch (dry matter basis). During the alternating period, the control diet was replaced with 1 of the 3 experimental diets on d 8, 10, 12, and 14. The 3 experimental diets contained 28% (low), 35% (medium), and 42% (high) starch (dry matter basis). At d 7 (baseline), 8 (ALT1), and 14 (ALT4) of each period, rumen fluid, blood, urine, and quarter milk (i.e., back right quarter) samples were collected at −0.5, 1, 2.5, 4, 5.5, and 7 h relative to morning feeding (0800 h). No differences were observed in dry matter intake, milk yield, and milk chemical composition. Rumen medial pH was lower in the high alternation level compared with the low or medium alternation levels at ALT1 but did not differ among starch alternation levels at ALT4. Similarly, the difference between rumen pH in medial and ventral contents was reduced at ALT1 with high alternation level but was not affected at ALT4. Total volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentrations were higher in the rumen medial fluid of the high alternation level at 7 h relative to morning feeding compared with those from the low and medium alternation levels. Similarly, total VFA concentrations constantly increased and were the highest in the ventral rumen fluid at 7 h relative to morning feeding, although no differences were detected among starch alternation levels. In both rumen medial and ventral fluids, the high alternation level showed higher propionate and lower acetate proportions compared with low and medium alternation levels. No differences in blood pH were detected among starch alternation levels. However, glucose concentrations tended to be higher in cows from the high alternation level. l-Lactate concentrations in blood were higher in ALT1 than in ALT4 but were not affected by the starch alternation level. In urine, no differences in pH or l-lactate concentrations were detected among alternation levels (i.e., low, medium, and high). Similarly, no differences in milk pH were detected among alternation levels. According to these results, it seems that the daily dietary starch alternation from 21% up to 42% (dry matter basis) is able to affect the ruminal fluid, especially during the first alternation. However, these changes in rumen fluid did not cause any effect on the variables measured in blood, urine, or milk. This study indicates that cows can cope with day-to-day alternations in type of rumen fermentable organic matter; however, longer-term effects on performance and health should be addressed in future studies.  相似文献

Milk accumulation in the udder decreases milk secretion and this effect is explained as well by the effects of the quantity of milk stored in the udder as by the duration and repetition of periods of milk stasis. This experiment aimed to better understand the underlying mechanisms of decreased milk yield in response to the specific effects of the quantity of milk stored in the udder, independent from storage duration, on milk yield and composition. Sixteen Holstein cows were assigned to 4 blocks of 4 cows in a 4 × 4 Latin square design using 7-d periods, with a 4-d sampling period and a 3-d washout period. Cows were milked twice daily at approximately 0700 and 1630 h throughout the trial. Treatments consisted of 4 degrees of milk removal (100, 70, 40, and 0%) applied at one morning milking, designated M0. Effects of the quantity accumulated were studied in relation to udder distension, via measurements of the total distance between the ends of the 4 teats, and cisternal capacity, via the evaluation of cisternal area by ultrasonographic scan at 1 and 9 h after M0. The effect of the quantity accumulated was also evaluated in relation to mammary epithelium permeability by determining plasma lactose concentrations 1 h before and 4, 7, and 10 h after M0. Leaving milk in the udder at M0 decreased milk production during the M0–M1 interval in a negative curvilinear manner. As a result, M0+M1 milk yield decreased or tended to decrease significantly by ?1.3, ?5.3, and ?12.8 kg for the 70, 40, and 0% treatments compared with the 100% treatment (41.7 ± 1.26 kg/d), respectively. Negative carry-over effects on milk yield were observed until the M3 milking only for the 40 and 0% treatments, and no differences were observed between the effects of these treatments. The total distance between teats increased significantly but to decreasing degrees during the M0–M1 interval. For the 40 and 0% treatments, cisternal area, which was increased 1 h after M0 milking, exhibited no further increase during the M0–M1 interval, suggesting cisternal distension was close to maximum. Simultaneously, lactose concentrations increased in blood plasma for only these 2 treatments, and this increase occurred earlier for the 0% treatment. It was also observed that cows presenting the earliest increases in plasma lactose concentrations during milk accumulation lost more milk in response to extended milking intervals.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of reduced milking frequency and increased dietary energy density in early lactation on milk production, energy balance, and subsequent fertility. Sixty-six spring-calving, multiparous Holstein-Friesian cows were assigned to 1 of 3 treatment groups: once-daily milking on a standard diet (1×ST); 3-times daily milking on a standard diet (3×ST); and 3-times daily milking on a high-energy diet. Treatments were imposed for the first 28 d of lactation, after which all groups were milked twice daily and fed the standard diet. During the treatment period, the 1×ST cows had 19.6% lower milk yield and higher milk fat and milk protein concentrations (15.7 and 10.2%, respectively) compared with 3×ST. Dry matter (DM) intake was similar between 1×ST and 3×ST during the treatment period (12.64 vs. 13.25 kg/ d; SED = 0.82). Daily energy balance was less negative for 1×ST compared with 3×ST during wk 1 to 3 of lactation [−3.92 vs. −5.30 unité fourragère lait (UFL)/d; SED = 0.65; 1 UFL is equal to the net energy for lactation of 1 kg of standard air-dry barley]. During the treatment period, the cows on the high-energy diet had 17% higher milk yield, higher DM intake (15.5 vs. 13.9 kg/d; SED = 0.71), and similar energy balance (−4.45 vs. −4.35 UFL/d; SED = 0.65) compared to 3×ST. Diet had no significant effect on any of the fertility variables measured. The interval to first ovulation was shorter for 1×ST than 3×ST (18.3d vs. 28.6d; SED = 1.76). In conclusion, once-daily milking in early lactation may promote earlier resumption of ovarian cyclicity, mediated through improved nutritional status.  相似文献

Levels of free fatty acids (FFA) were determined in milk from cows after 7 months of lactation and 4 months of pregnancy immediately after milking (initial FFA) and after 22 h storage at 4 degrees C (FFA-22). During the pre-experimental period, cows were at pasture. When housed indoors (experimental period) they were fed hay or grass silage for 3 weeks. Then all cows received grass silage for 3 weeks (post-experimental period). Feeding hay did not increase FFA-22 content in milk compared with pasture, but grass silage feeding enhanced FFA-22 content in milk compared with pasture (+130%) or hay (+93%). Increased lipolysis with grass silage was not due to underfeeding of the cows because grass silage and hay were both of high nutritive value. As pasture, hay and grass silage were of the same type (native mountain grassland), the high level of lipolysis occurring with grass silage probably resulted from the method of forage conservation.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to compare a vacuum control system that increases milking system vacuum during the peak flow period of milking to conventional constant vacuum control technology regarding its effect on milk flowrate and milking duration. Further objectives were to study the effects of flow-controlled vacuum on milking parlor performance. An observational study was conducted on a commercial dairy farm milking from 848 to 896 cows per day over the study period using a 60-stall rotary milking parlor. The flow-controlled vacuum control system was applied for 3 wk. Milking performance and teat condition were compared with 3-wk periods prior and subsequent to the test period using conventional vacuum control. Statistical analysis was performed assuming a cross-sectional study design during each period. Flow-controlled vacuum increased peak milk flowrate by 12% and increased average milk flowrate by 4%. The decrease in individual cow milking duration was proportional to milk yield per milking. Postmilking teat condition was good during the entire study period. The occurrence of rough teat ends was slightly reduced during the flow-controlled vacuum period with no meaningful difference in the occurrence of teats with blue color, palpable rings, or petechia. The combination of reduced vacuum during the low flow period of milking and the decrease in milking duration are likely factors that are protective of teat tissues. Bioeconomic modeling of the use of flow-controlled vacuum on the performance of rotary milking parlors, using the data that were collected during the study, showed that the reduction in milking duration of individual cows allows a higher rotary parlor speed. Modeled parlor throughput increased by 5.0% to 419 cows/h, 6.8% to 407 cows/h, and 4.2% to 326 cows/h when 80%, 95%, and 99% of the cows were finished milking at the end of the rotation for a 60-stall parlor. Model results showed that increased parlor throughput resulted in increased labor efficiency, reduced labor costs for milking, and a positive benefit-cost ratio on the investment for all but the smallest herd and parlor sizes considered.  相似文献
