My three year old daughter, Hannah, has spent a considerable amount of thinking time speculating on the why and wherefore of fairies. It has transpired that not all fairies are good. Miss Flora, Miss Fauna and Miss Merryweather are definitely good. Tinker Bell, though, is another brand of fairy. Didn’t she almost kill Wendy in Peter Pan? But she did have some redeeming features. In tandem with Hannah’s ruminations on the fairy world, I have been thinking about hackers of the black, grey and white hat varieties. Are black hats all bad? Are white hats all good? The development of a computer game is widely used as a way of conveying concepts regarding Computer Science. There are several reasons for this: it stimulates creativity, it provides an immediate sense of achievement (when the code works), it typically covers all the aspects of an introductory course, and it is easy to find ideas just by looking around and finding stimulation from one's environment and from fellow students. In this paper we present eNVyMyCar, a framework for the collaborative/competitive development of a computer game, and report the experience of its use in two Computer Graphics courses held in 2007. We developed a multiplayer car racing game where the student's task is just to implement the rendering of the scene, while all the other aspects, communication and synchronization are implemented in the framework and are transparent to the developer. The innovative feature of our framework is that all on‐line users can see the views produced by their fellow students. This motivates students to improve their work by comparing it with other students and picking up ideas from them. It also gives students an opportunity to show off to their classmates.  相似文献

A survey on computer animation is presented with three specific goals:
  • To clarify what people understand by computer animation.

  • To separate the different aspects of computer animation and underline its main problems.

  • To present the different solutions given to these problems.


Several classifications for computer animation systems are first made attending to different criteria. The report is subsequently divided into two basic sections according to the historical classification of computer animation systems: computer-assisted animation, where traditional animation is just helped by the use of computers, and modelled animation where the use of computers is essential in different aspects of the animation process. Special emphasis is placed on motion specification and generation.
Finally, special attention is paid to human body animation because of the great interest of this specific field of computer animation and the peculiarity of its problems.

Defining visualization education is still a work in progress. Visualization education is not just a subject within computer science. Computer scientists are not always the appropriate choice to teach visualization courses on their own. Visualization is not just mastering a set of concepts but acquiring skills. The use of computers in art is not new: examples are given of past and present applications. Three categories are mentioned: computer as tool, as origin of concepts and metaphors, and as controller. The use of the computer in art gives rise to the idea of computing as representation- rather than just information-processing. Thus the computer can be said to 'belong' to artists and designers, and can be seen as a qualitative device. It is argued that computing is 'really' an art or design activity, and that this has implications for art, design and computing.  相似文献

Computational seismic modeling (CSM) is beginning to play an important role in the geophysical industry all over the world. People now realize that CSM can be a new and effective aid to seismic interpreters. One of the most important factors that has accelerated the development of CSM has been the rapid progress of supercomputers. With the increase in data obtained by the CSM research, the importance of visualization of the computed results began to be recognized.

The idea of visualization is not new; because massive amounts of numeric data are far more comprehensible when converted into graphical form, visualization is becoming an intimate part of many areas of research. Techniques for visualization, however, are still being developed, and visualization research is just beginning to be recognized as a cornerstone of future computer science. As scientists bring increasingly complex problems to computer science, visualization will become an even more essential tool for extracting science out of numbers.  相似文献
