Increasing number of sophisticated services provided by the current wireless communication systems have caused a significant transition from E-commerce to M-commerce. Enterprises have provided considerable new opportunities to promote their businesses accessible from small mobile devices such as personal digital assistant (PDA) or mobiles phones. These facilities are envisioned as the most convenient way of using M-commerce. Using such services from mobile phones or PDAs equipped with GSM/GPRS involve effective mobility management mechanisms in cellular networks—a popular architecture for wireless networks. Success of such systems will largely depend on the reliable connection for the roaming users. Consequently, Quality of Service (QoS) provision is one of the most challenging issues in the heterogeneous wireless network-based m-commerce systems. Such m-commerce systems enable users to roam between different wireless networks operators and geographical areas while providing interactive broadband services and seamless connectivity. This paper presents an analytical framework to model scarce channels in any cell for maximizing channel utilization and efficient handling of handover requests. Typical numerical experiments are presented to validate the analytical solution against simulation to study the effect of bursty traffic upon the performance of the cell in any cellular networks.  相似文献

To enable seamless handovers for broadband networks, many researchers have addressed the integration of heterogeneous access technologies to provide users with always-on connectivity. Currently, there are several researches reported in the literature that discuss the integration of beyond 3G networks such as 3GPP Long Term Evolution LTE and mobile WiMax networks. They mainly focused on providing mobile users with seamless mobility when switching between heterogeneous access networks. In this context, many solutions for integration architecture have been proposed with mobility management considerations such as loose and tight coupling, IP Multimedia Subsystem IMS-based architecture and Evolved Packet Core EPC-based solutions for the purpose of providing mobile users with seamless handovers. In this paper, we present the different integration solutions and propose an integration architecture for WiMax and LTE access technologies with EPC as core network and IMS for service provisioning. A vertical handover VHO scheme is presented based on cross-layer approach that enables vertical handover with less handover latency and signaling cost.  相似文献

Multimedia applications in wireless communication have been increased in recent years. A variety of wireless access technologies is introduced for various needs. The abundant increase in mobile computing devices and different networking systems leads to the support of user’s mobility on heterogeneous network. In general, the roaming users migrate between two different wireless technologies and their service must be supported by vertical handover (HO). Since the roaming users expect a rapid handover experience while switching from one wireless network to another, the handover operation must be enhanced by the networks. Various wireless technologies such as wireless LAN, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), and the 3G Partnership Project (3GPP) are interlaced to support many wireless services in rural, urban, and global scenarios. Moreover, quality of service (QoS) has become more significant in many applications where wireless network resources are utilized. In this paper, a handover management scheme is proposed for QoS enhancement in roaming users between WiMAX and WLAN by subscribers of networks belonging to the 3GPP standards. The proposed algorithms genetic queuing, proportionally fair queuing, and WiMAX aware load balancing are analyzed in the scheduling process during handover. The simulation is implemented using NS–2 and the experimental results are obtained for the proposed algorithms and compared with the standard scheme.  相似文献

In future wireless multimedia networks, user mobility management for seamless connection regarding realtime multimedia applications is one of the most important problems. In this paper we propose an opportunity-cost concept-based approach for adaptive bandwidth reservation with admission control for handover calls utilizing network traffic information. Excessive reservation guarantees low blocking probability of handover calls at the cost of high blocking probability of new calls. According to our survey, however, it may degrade bandwidth utilization while no prioritization for handover admissions degrades quality of service (QoS) for ongoing calls. We consider both QoS assurance and bandwidth utilization in order to optimize the amount of bandwidth to reserve for handover admissions. We believe that our scheme could be utilized as a guideline for cost-effective radio resource allocation in mobile multimedia networks.  相似文献

In the next generation heterogeneous wireless networks, a mobile terminal (MT) with a multi-interface may have network access from different service providers using various technologies. In spite of this heterogeneity, seamless intersystem mobility is a mandatory requirement. One of the major challenges for seamless mobility is the creation of a vertical handover scheme, which is for users that move between different types of networks. In this article a seamless mobility handover scheme is presented. The novelty of the proposed scheme is that handover is fully controlled by the terminal. To improve the performance of the proposed handover scheme, a network discovery algorithm with fuzzy logic and a handover decision algorithm using multi criteria decision making (MCDM) based on vague sets are derived, which are both user-centric. With these algorithms, the handover scheme is power-saving, cost-aware, and performance-aware. Simulation results show that the novel handover scheme can perform network discovery in time to reduce handover dropping rate and present unnecessary activation of its interface to save the battery power, while effectively choose the optimum network through making trade-off among the user preference, network condition, and system performance.  相似文献

针对异构无线网络环境中现有垂直切换算法存在难以实现移动用户接入网络的无缝切换,无法向用户提供稳定通信服务的问题,提出一种基于移动用户位置预测的垂直切换算法。首先利用用户移动轨迹的相似性,使用用户轨迹数据离线训练LSTM模型以学习各用户普遍具有的移动规律;然后在线加载LSTM模型进行用户位置预测,从而使用模糊逻辑分析计算下一时刻用户对应候选网络的回报值,并选取回报值最高的网络进行切换。实验结果表明,该算法与已有垂直切换算法相比,在不同的用户移动速度和用户规模条件下的切换次数、切换失败次数和切换时延均有明显下降,内存消耗较低,能够实现无缝切换。  相似文献

针对无线移动通信的特点,提出了一种在移动IPv6网络中保障用户通信服务质量的资源预留新方案Fast RSVP.该方案采用跨层设计的思想,将两个不同层次的模块:移动IPv6模块和RSVP模块结合起来,通过在两个模块之间增加一些原语使得二者配合工作以保证移动用户的通信业务质量.Fast RSVP方案引入了邻居隧道提前资源预留、优化路径资源预留、切换预留、路径融合等一系列新机制.仿真实验结果表明,与其他移动环境中的RSVP扩展方案相比,该Fast RSVP方案在支持无线移动通信方面具有如下优势:(1)能够实现移动节点带有服务质量保证的快速切换;(2)能够避免移动IP切换过程中三角路由和重复预留造成的资源浪费;(3)能够区分不同类型的切换预留请求,在保证网络整体性能的前提下显著降低因为切换而导致的服务中断率.  相似文献

Wireless technologies which serve multimedia applications have to guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) demands along with seamless connectivity. The complexity in attaining such demands increases if the network is heterogeneous in nature. This paper proposes a QoS guaranteed integration methodology for a heterogeneous wireless local area network (WLAN) - worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) network. An integrated protocol stack for the mobile terminal which could work in a WLAN-WiMAX heterogeneous network is proposed. The proposed integrated protocol stack, a blend of two modules namely generic virtual link layer (GVLL) and media independent handover (MIH) is placed above the media access control (MAC) layer which includes both WLAN and WiMAX MAC. The impact of GVLL in guaranteeing the QoS on QoS deterioration and the impact of MIH in attaining seamless handover are analyzed and the results are presented.  相似文献

Integration of various wireless access technologies is one of the major concerns in recent wireless systems in which multi-technology mobile devices are provided to users to roam between different access networks. Being an essential part in heterogeneous wireless systems, vertical handover is more complex than conventional horizontal handover. As IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) is the standard addressing a uniform and media-independent framework for seamless handover between different access technologies, many works have been carried out in the literature to employ MIH services in handover management This paper presents a comprehensive survey of the proposed mobility management mechanisms that are using this framework. As a comparative view, the paper categorizes the efforts according to the layer of mobility management and evaluates some of the representative methods discussing about their advantages and disadvantages The paper also looks into recent handover decision and interface management methods that are exploiting MIH Moreover, the extensions and the amendments proposed on MIH are overviewed.  相似文献

With the deployment of heterogeneous networks, mobile users are expecting ubiquitous connectivity when using applications. For bandwidth-intensive applications such as Interact Protocol Television (IPTV), multimedia contents are typical- ly transmitted using a multicast delivery method due to its bandwidth efficiency. However, not all networks support multicasting. Multicasting alone could lead to service disruption when the users move from a multicast-capable network to a non-multicast network. In this paper, we propose a handover scheme called application layer seamless switching (ALSS) to provide smooth real-time multimedia delivery across unicast and multicast networks. ALSS adopts a soft handover to achieve seamless playback during the handover period. A real-time streaming testbed is implemented to investigate the overall handover performance, espe- cially the overlapping period where both network interfaces are receiving audio and video packets. Both the quality of service (QoS) and objective-mapped quality of experience (QoE) metrics are measured. Experimental results show that the overlapping period takes a minimum of 56 and 4 ms for multicast-to-unicast (M2U) and unicast-to-multicast (U2M) handover, respectively. The measured peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) confirms that the frame-by-frame quality of the streamed video during the handover is at least 33 dB, which is categorized as good based on ITU-T recommendations. The estimated mean opinion score (MOS) in terms of video playback smoothness is also at a satisfactory level.  相似文献

In next generation wireless networks, Internet service providers (ISPs) are expected to offer services through several wireless technologies (e.g., WLAN, 3G, WiFi, and WiMAX). Thus, mobile computers equipped with multiple interfaces will be able to maintain simultaneous connections with different networks and increase their data communication rates by aggregating the bandwidth available at these networks. To guarantee quality-of-service (QoS) for these applications, this paper proposes a dynamic QoS negotiation scheme that allows users to dynamically negotiate the service levels required for their traffic and to reach them through one or more wireless interfaces. Such bandwidth aggregation (BAG) scheme implies transmission of data belonging to a single application via multiple paths with different characteristics, which may result in an out-of-order delivery of data packets to the receiver and introduce additional delays for packets reordering. The proposed QoS negotiation system aims to ensure the continuity of QoS perceived by mobile users while they are on the move between different access points, and also, a fair use of the network resources. The performance of the proposed dynamic QoS negotiation system is investigated and compared against other schemes. The obtained results demonstrate the outstanding performance of the proposed scheme as it enhances the scalability of the system and minimizes the reordering delay and the associated packet loss rate.  相似文献

Network mobility (NEMO) aims providing seamless Internet connectivity of the whole mobile network that consists of mobile routers (MRs) and mobile network nodes (MNNs). The network moves around along with vehicles as a whole. According to NEMO basic support protocol (NEMO BSP), only one primary care of address (CoA) of MR can be registered with home agent, which will affect the handover performance. As an extension of NEMO BSP, multiple care of addresses (MCoA) registration scheme was proposed as Internet-draft and has received extensive researches.This paper studies the Internet connectivity of mobile router (MR) on the basis stated above; MR is equipped with WLAN, CDMA and GPRS interfaces simultaneously. Concretely, a smooth handover algorithm is proposed and experimented on our platform successfully; round trip time (RTT) of each link and the handover process between different interfaces are analyzed, respectively. Furthermore, the service disruption time and packet loss ratio performances are also compared between uni-interfaced MR scheme of NEMO BSP and scheme proposed in this paper, and the results indicate that multi-interfaced scheme not only supports large area movement across heterogeneous networks of MR, it also provides a seamless handover with no packet loss and little service disruption time.  相似文献

随着用户数和应用业务的快速发展,对新一代Internet的服务质量提出了更高的要求。然而,在Internet中引入无线接入方式使得提供QoS面临更大挑战。文章基于区分服务(DiffServ)框架结构,并结合移动管理协议———移动IP(MobileIP)协议来研究和解决如何在新一代移动无线互联网中提供QoS控制。同时在每个自治域中引入一个新的概念———QoS域代理(QoSDomainAgent,QDA),并利用QDA进行资源管理并参与和移动主机/用户(MobileHost,MH)或其它QDA进行动态SLS的协商,同时采用组播方式把QDA中的QoSSLS内容信息传输给域内的每一个第一跳和边界路由节点。通过对相关协议和功能进行必要的修改和扩充,从而有效地解决了MH和网络的动态服务级别协议(SLA)的协商和在MobileIP切换中各入口节点动态建立SLS的问题,同时可以有效减少信令交互,节省无线资源和减少移动终端的电池消耗,并且有利于MH在域内漫游时进行无缝切换。最后给出作者的结论及进一步的研究内容。  相似文献

Seamless communication is becoming one of the most important issues for the next generation of mobile and wireless networks. In this context, seamless is referred to users that are free to roam around different networks and at the same time stay connected without any disturbance to the ongoing session during the handover process from one network to another. The handover process between these networks spawns long delay or latency, high packet loss, and fewer throughputs which may degrade the performance of real-time applications during the handover process. Therefore, in order to resolve these problems, a new protocol has been proposed by Network-based Localized Mobility Management working group of Internet Engineering Task Force under network-based mobility management protocol. Although, this protocol managed to minimize the problems related to network switching, it still suffers several drawbacks during the handover process especially when the movement speed of mobile user is high. In this paper, we present a new approach which is a network-based mobility management protocol that aims to reduce the lengthy handover latency, jitter, high packet loss, and increase throughput and the performance of video transmission during the high speed mobility. The proposed approach namely Seamless Handover Integrated Solution consists of mobility prediction method, a set of Internet Control Message Protocol version 6 (ICMP6) messages which are effective in terms of handover optimization.  相似文献

In order to support mobile multimedia applications in next generation wireless IP-based networks, it is necessary to deliver seamless voice, video and data at high quality. Therefore, session mobility and Quality of Service (QoS) for mobile end systems are required. Within this article, the authors point out a new way to approach the problem. Instead of tightly coupling a modified QoS signaling mechanism with a certain mobility mechanism, a more generic and long-term solution is proposed and exemplified on the basis of existing IETF protocols. The connection-less IP network layer is enhanced by a lightweight and truly optional connection-oriented mobile network service, which offers the possibility to establish soft state unicast connections at the network layer. Hence, a connection-oriented network service is available within a radio access network (RAN) architecture to all end systems—mobile or fixed—independent of the application. Thereby, it is possible to integrate QoS and connectivity signaling for mobile end systems, as well as other connection-oriented services like explicit routing or load balancing.  相似文献

For the improvement of the quality of service (QoS) of wireless Internet users traveling in vehicles, it is effective to reduce the service disruption time by avoiding unnecessary handover occurrence, considering the vehicles’ movement paths. This paper proposes a handover scheme suitable for users traveling in vehicles, which enables continuous learning of the handover process using a discrete-time Markov chain (DTMC). The proposed handover scheme avoids unnecessary handover trials when a short dwell time in a target cell is expected or when the target cell is an intermediate cell through which the vehicle quickly passes. For verifying the performance of the proposed scheme, we observe the average number of handover trials and the average throughput along various paths, which are real bus lines. The results show that the proposed scheme reduces the number of handover occurrences and maintains adequate throughput.  相似文献

In the future cloud computing, users will heavily use mobile devices. Mobile networks for cloud computing should be managed efficiently as well as support seamless services to mobile users regardless of their locations and movements. Hence, in mobile networks for cloud computing, it is important to support seamless mobility management to mobile users who request real-time services such as VoIP, streaming, and interactive game playing. To support seamless mobility management for various wireless technologies in cloud computing, Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and fast handovers for MIPv6 (FMIPv6) have been studied. FMIPv6 has been emerged to reduce long handover latency and packet loss in MIPv6. FMIPv6 may provide seamless handover by minimizing the handover latency, and prevent packet loss through buffering and tunneling. FMIPv6 uses anticipation based on layer 2 trigger information, and consists of two operation modes such as the predictive mode and the reactive mode. Several works have been done to evaluate the performance of FMIPv6 in different network environments. However, the previous works did not consider the probability of predictive mode failure (PPMF) that distinguishes two operation modes. Even in the most previous work, two operation modes of FMIPv6 are evaluated separately. However, to accurately analyze the overall performance of FMIPv6, two operation modes should be analyzed altogether. In this paper, FMIPv6 combining two operation modes is analyzed considering the PPMF that is affected by the radius of a cell, velocity of mobile nodes, and the layer 2 triggering time. The effect of system parameters, such as the PPMF, the time required to process additional layer 3 signaling, and the layer 2 trigger time, is analytically investigated with respect to the signaling cost and the packet delivery cost. Analytical results show a trade-off between performance and system parameters. Then we show methods to optimize overhead of FMIPv6. Finally, mobile networks for cloud computing can be efficiently managed through the optimized FMIPv6.  相似文献

With the explosion of video streaming available on the Internet, online multimedia applications become more popular in our days and the video quality of the Internet multimedia applications is directly affected by the network transmission state, which will be worse while switching the ongoing network connection from one wireless interface to another heterogeneous wireless technology, such as IEEE 802 families, UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) network and 3GPP LTE (3rd generation partnership project-long term evolution). In order to perform seamless handover between heterogeneous wireless networks, IEEE group proposed the “IEEE 802.21 standard” and defined a middleware function called “media independent handover function (MIHF)” to smooth the handover. In this paper, a dynamic playback control for multicasting streaming based on IEEE 802.21 is proposed to reduce the influence of handover between heterogeneous networks. In addition, we evaluate three different rate modes for seamless multicasting streams. The simulation results show that different playback frame rate modes, including the usual, incremental and linear modes, can achieve different video quality and can extend the playing time for handover video playback.  相似文献
