This paper deals with the effects of the operating parameters on the cooling performance that can be applied for a transcritical CO2 automotive air conditioning system. The experimental conditions of the performance tests for a CO2 system and components such as a gas cooler and an evaporator were suggested to compare with the performance of each at the standardized test conditions. This research presents experimental results for the performance characteristics of a CO2 automotive air conditioning system with various operating conditions such as different gas cooler inlet pressures, compressor speeds and frontal air temperatures/flow rates passing through the evaporator and the gas cooler. Experimental results show that the cooling capacity was more than 4.9 kW and coefficient of performance (COP) was more than 2.4, at each optimum pressure of gas cooler inlet during idling condition. Also, the cooling capacity was about 7.5 kW and COP was about 1.7 at the optimum pressure of gas cooler inlet during driving condition when air inlet temperatures of gas cooler and evaporator were 45 °C and 35 °C, respectively. Therefore, we concluded that the automotive air conditioning system using CO2 refrigerant has good performance. This paper also deals with the development of optimum high pressure control algorithm for the transcritical CO2 cycle to achieve the maximum COP.  相似文献

Mist film cooling simulation at gas turbine operating conditions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Air film cooling has been successfully used to cool gas turbine hot sections for the last half century. A promising technology is proposed to enhance air film cooling with water mist injection. Numerical simulations have shown that injecting a small amount of water droplets into the cooling air improves film-cooling performance significantly. However, previous studies were conducted at conditions of low Reynolds number, temperature, and pressure to allow comparisons with experimental data. As a continuous effort to develop a realistic mist film cooling scheme, this paper focuses on simulating mist film cooling under typical gas turbine operating conditions of high temperature and pressure. The mainstream flow is at 15 atm with a temperature of 1561 K. Both 2D and 3D cases are considered with different hole geometries on a flat surface, including a 2D slot, a simple round hole, a compound-angle hole, and fan-shaped holes. The results show that 10–20% mist (based on the coolant mass flow rate) achieves 5–10% cooling enhancement and provides an additional 30–68 K adiabatic wall temperature reduction. Uniform droplets of 5–20 μm are used. The droplet trajectories indicate the droplets tend to move away from the wall, which results in a lower cooling enhancement than under low pressure and temperature conditions. The commercial software Fluent is adopted in this study, and the standard kε model with enhanced wall treatment is adopted as the turbulence model.  相似文献

Evaporation of mono-disperse fuel droplets under high temperature and high pressure conditions is investigated. The time-dependent growth of the boundary layer of the droplets and the influence of neighboring droplets are examined analytically. A transient Nusselt number is calculated from numerical data and compared to the quasi-steady correlations available in literature. The analogy between heat and mass transfer is tested considering transient and quasi-steady calculations for the gas phase up to the critical point for a single droplet. The droplet evaporation in a droplet chain is examined numerically. Experimental investigations are performed to examine the influence of neighboring droplets on the drag coefficients. The results are compared with drag coefficient models for single droplets in a temperature range from T = 293–550 K and gas pressure p = 0.1–2 MPa. The experimental data provide basis for model validation in computational fluid dynamics.  相似文献

Results of experimental studies and the modelling of heating and evaporation of monodisperse ethanol and acetone droplets in two regimes are presented. Firstly, pure heating and evaporation of droplets in a flow of air of prescribed temperature are considered. Secondly, droplet heating and evaporation in a flame produced by previously injected combusting droplets are studied. The phase Doppler anemometry technique is used for droplet velocity and size measurements. Two-colour laser induced fluorescence thermometry is used to estimate droplet temperatures. The experiments have been performed for various distances between droplets and various initial droplet radii and velocities. The experimental data have been compared with the results of modelling, based on given gas temperatures, measured by coherent anti-stokes Raman spectroscopy, and Nusselt and Sherwood numbers calculated using measured values of droplet relative velocities. When estimating the latter numbers the finite distance between droplets was taken into account. The model is based on the assumption that droplets are spherically symmetrical, but takes into account the radial distribution of temperature inside droplets. It is pointed out that for relatively small droplets (initial radii about 65 μm) the experimentally measured droplet temperatures are close to the predicted average droplet temperatures, while for larger droplets (initial radii about 120 μm) the experimentally measured droplet temperatures are close to the temperatures predicted at the centre of the droplets.  相似文献

The effects of ambient pressure, initial gas temperature and combustion reaction on the evaporation of a single fuel droplet and multiple fuel droplets are investigated by means of three-dimensional numerical simulation. The ambient pressure, initial gas temperature and droplets’ mass loading ratio, ML, are varied in the ranges of 0.1–2.0 MPa, 1000–2000 K and 0.027–0.36, respectively, under the condition with or without combustion reaction. The results show that both for the conditions with and without combustion reaction, droplet lifetime increases with increasing the ambient pressure at low initial gas temperature of 1000 K, but decreases at high initial gas temperatures of 1500 K and 2000 K, although the droplet lifetime becomes shorter due to combustion reaction. The increase of ML and the inhomogeneity of droplet distribution due to turbulence generally make the droplet lifetime longer, since the high droplets’ mass loading ratio at local locations causes the decrease of gas temperature and the increase of the evaporated fuel mass fraction towards the vapor surface mass fraction.  相似文献

The heat and mass transfer between air and water film in the direct evaporative cooler is theoretically analyzed in present paper. A simplified cooling efficiency correlation is proposed based on the energy balance analysis of air. The correlation may be applied to the water-drip cross-flow direct evaporative cooler, in which the wet special durable papers with different wave angles form the air channel. The Influences of the air frontal velocity and the thickness of pad module on the cooling efficiency of a direct evaporative cooler are discussed. An optimum frontal velocity of 2.5 m/s is recommended to decide the frontal area of pad module in the given air flow. The simplified correlation of cooling efficiency is validated by the test results of a direct evaporative cooler.  相似文献

A transonic airfoil moving in an air–water droplet two-phase flow is investigated numerically to study the effect of droplet size and volume fraction. The droplets we consider are in the size 1–100 μm and the volume fraction is in 0.01%–10%. A compressible two-fluid model is solved by the WAF-HLL scheme developed earlier by the authors which includes drag force, heat transfer, phase change, and droplet fragmentation of the droplets. The numerical results show that the droplet breakup layer can be extended to a later distance as large as about 60% of a chord length at the trailing edge. Also the droplets have made the shock wave dissolved in compression waves and the airfoil performance seriously deteriorated.  相似文献

Numerical simulations including detailed chemical and physical models are performed to investigate the influence of different physical parameters on the auto-ignition of n-heptane/iso-octane droplets in air. Simulations are performed for isobaric conditions with an ambient pressure of 8 bar and a droplet radius of 200 μm. The ambient gas temperature ranges from 800 K to 2000 K and the droplet temperature was varied from 300 K to 400 K. Below an ambient temperature of 1000 K the ignition delay time is found to increase with an increasing volume fraction of iso-octane. Above 1000 K the ignition delay time appears to be almost independent of the mixture composition of the droplet. The local ignition conditions are also studied. It turns out that ignition occurs at points, where the mixture is lean. This trend is more significant, if the ambient temperature increases. The influence of physical properties of the mixture components, like diffusion coefficients, heat conductivity, heat of vaporization and vapor pressure, is investigated. Furthermore, the influences of simplifying assumptions such as the distillation and diffusion limit are studied.  相似文献

Spray evaporative cooling, in lieu of conventional laminar jet impingement cooling, has potential to achieve the anomalously high strip cooling rate of Ultra Fast Cooling – 300 °C/s for a 4 mm thick carbon steel strip – in Runout Table of Hot Strip Mill. In the present study, evaporation time of a single droplet impinging on a hot carbon steel strip surface has been analytically evaluated as a function of droplet diameter from fundamental heat transfer perspective based on the premise that a spray can be considered as a multi-droplet array of liquid at low spray flux density. Droplet evaporation time thus evaluated has been used to estimate strip cooling rate achievable in Runout Table of Hot Strip Mill by spray evaporative cooling. The proposed analytical model predicts that it is indeed possible to achieve the ultra-high cooling rate of Ultra Fast Cooling by spray evaporative cooling by suitable reduction of droplet size. A general analytical expression has also been developed to estimate critical droplet size to achieve Ultra Fast Cooling as a function of steel strip thickness. Predictions of the analytical model have been validated using CFD simulation with a modified Discrete Phase Model.  相似文献

The development of absorption chillers activated by renewable heat sources has increased due mainly to the increase in primary energy consumption that causes problems such as greenhouse gases and air pollution among others. These machines, which could be a good substitute for compression systems, could be used in the residential and food sectors which require a great variety of refrigeration conditions. Nevertheless, the low efficiency of these machines makes it necessary to enhance heat and mass transfer processes in the critical components, mainly the absorber, in order to reduce their large size. This study used ammonia–water as the working fluid to look at how absorption takes place in a plate heat exchanger operating under typical conditions of absorption chillers, driven by low temperature heat sources. Experiments were carried out using a corrugated plate heat exchanger model NB51, with three channels, where ammonia vapor was injected in bubble mode into the solution in the central channel. The results achieved for the absorption flux were in the range of 0.0025–0.0063 kg m?2 s?1, the solution heat transfer coefficient varied between 2.7 and 5.4 kW m?2 K?1, the absorber thermal load from 0.5 to 1.3 kW. In addition, the effect of the absorber operating conditions on the most significant efficiency parameters was analyzed. The increase in pressure, solution and cooling flow rates positively affect the absorber performance, on the other hand an increase in the concentration, cooling, and solution temperature negatively affects the absorber performance.  相似文献

In lean premixed pre-vaporized (LPP) combustion, controlled atomization, dispersion and vaporization of different types of liquid fuel in the premixer are the key factors required to stabilize the combustion process and improve the efficiency. The dispersion and vaporization process for biofuels and conventional fuels sprayed into a crossflow pre-mixer have been simulated and analyzed with respect to vaporization rate, degree of mixedness and homogeneity. Two major biofuels under investigation are Ethanol and Rapeseed Methyl Esters (RME), while conventional fuels are gasoline and jet-A. First, the numerical code is validated by comparing with the experimental data of single n-heptane and decane droplet evaporating under both moderate and high temperature convective air flow. Next, the spray simulations were conducted with monodispersed droplets with an initial diameter of 80 μm injected into a turbulent crossflow of air with a typical velocity of 10 m/s and temperature of around 800 K. Vaporization time scales of different fuels are found to be very different. The droplet diameter reduction and surface temperature rise were found to be strongly dependent on the fuel properties. Gasoline droplet exhibited a much faster vaporization due a combination of higher vapor pressure and smaller latent heat of vaporization compared to other fuels. Mono-dispersed spray was adopted with the expectation of achieving more homogeneous fuel droplet size than poly-dispersed spray. However, the diameter histogram in the zone near the pre-mixer exit shows a large range of droplet diameter distributions for all the fuels. In order to improve the vaporization performance, fuels were pre-heated before injection. Results show that the Sauter mean diameter of ethanol improved from 52.8% of the initial injection size to 48.2%, while jet-A improved from 48.4% to 18.6% and RME improved from 63.5% to 31.3%. The diameter histogram showed improved vaporization performance of jet-A.  相似文献

This paper has proposed an integrated advanced thermal power system to improve the performance of the conventional combined cycle power plant. Both inlet air cooling and inter-cooling are utilized within the proposed system to limit the decrease of the air mass flow contained in the given volume flow as well as reduce the compression power required. The latent heat of spent steam from a steam turbine and the heat extracted from the air during the compression process are used to heat liquefied natural gas (LNG) and generate electrical energy. The conventional combined cycle and the proposed power system are simulated using the commercial process simulation package IPSEpro. A parametric analysis has been performed for the proposed power system to evaluate the effects of several key factors on the performance. The results show that the net electrical efficiency and the overall work output of the proposed combined cycle can be increased by 2.8% and 76.8 MW above those of the conventional combined cycle while delivering 75.8 kg s?1 of natural gas and saving 0.9 MW of electrical power by removing the need for sea water pumps used hitherto. Compared with the conventional combined cycle, the proposed power system performance has little sensitivity to ambient temperature changes and shows good off-design performance.  相似文献

The objective of this work is to investigate the coupling of fluid dynamics, heat transfer and mass transfer during the impact and evaporation of droplets on a heated solid substrate. A laser-based thermoreflectance method is used to measure the temperature at the solid–liquid interface, with a time and space resolution of 100 μs and 20 μm, respectively. Isopropanol droplets with micro- and nanoliter volumes are considered. A finite-element model is used to simulate the transient fluid dynamics and heat transfer during the droplet deposition process, considering the dynamics of wetting as well as Laplace and Marangoni stresses on the liquid–gas boundary. For cases involving evaporation, the diffusion of vapor in the atmosphere is solved numerically, providing an exact boundary condition for the evaporative flux at the droplet–air interface. High-speed visualizations are performed to provide matching parameters for the wetting model used in the simulations. Numerical and experimental results are compared for the transient heat transfer and the fluid dynamics involved during the droplet deposition. Our results describe and explain temperature oscillations at the drop–substrate interface during the early stages of impact. For the first time, a full simulation of the impact and subsequent evaporation of a drop on a heated surface is performed, and excellent agreement is found with the experimental results. Our results also shed light on the influence of wetting on the heat transfer during evaporation.  相似文献

The work presents the results of numerical investigation of the flow structure and heat transfer of impact mist jet with low concentration of droplets (ML1 ? 1%). The downward gas-droplets jet issued from a pipe and strikes into at a center of the circular target wall. Mathematical model is based in the solution to RANS equations for the two-phase flow in Euler approximation. For the calculation of the fluctuation characteristics of the dispersed phase equations of Zaichik et al. (1997) [35] model were applied. Predictions were performed for the distances between the nozzle and target plate x/(2R) = 1–10 and the initial droplets size (d1 = 5–100 μm) at the fixed Reynolds number based on the nozzle diameter, Re = 26,600. Addition of droplets causes significant increase of heat transfer intensity in the vicinity of the jet stagnation point compared with the one-phase air impact jet.  相似文献

A direct-contact compact heat exchanger to enhance cooling of hot water, has been manufactured and tested experimentally. Hereby hot water is dispersed into a cooler liquid gallium bath in the form of small water bubbles emanating from 48 holes with 3 mm diameter each, drilled on four horizontal bubbles distribution tubes. Heat transfer limitations posed by gallium's low specific heat have been circumvented by imbedding cooling water tubes within the gallium. Thereby it was possible to maintain gallium at almost 30 °C during water bubbling; slightly above gallium's freezing point. Temperature reduction by about 23 °C was possible for hot water flow with initial temperature of about 60 °C and flow rate of 11.3 g/s when bubbled through such gallium bath that has temperature of about 30 °C and thickness of about only 18 mm. To realize such temperature drop for water using equivalent shell-tube heat exchangers of conventional kinds with 3 mm diameter tubing, a tube length in the range of 70 to 80 cm would be required. Theoretical considerations and empirical correlations dedicated to solid sphere calculations have been used to predict motion and heat transfer events for water bubbles moving through isothermal gallium bath. The computations were extended to include the experimental temperature conditions tested. Computations agree very well with experimental results.  相似文献

Computational fluid dynamics numerical simulations for 2.0 mm water droplets impinging normal onto a flat heated surface under atmospheric conditions are presented and validated against experimental data. The coupled problem of liquid and air flow, heat transfer with the solid wall together with the liquid vaporization process from the droplet’s free surface is predicted using a VOF-based methodology accounting for phase-change. The cooling of the solid wall surface, initially at 120 °C, is predicted by solving simultaneously with the fluid flow and evaporation processes, the heat conduction equation within the solid wall. The range of impact velocities examined was between 1.3 and 3.0 m/s while focus is given to the process during the transitional period of the initial stages of impact prior to liquid deposition. The droplet’s evaporation rate is predicted using a model based on Fick’s law and considers variable physical properties which are a function of the local temperature and composition. Additionally, a kinetic theory model was used to evaluate the importance of thermal non-equilibrium conditions at the liquid–gas interface and which have been found to be negligible for the test cases investigated. The numerical results are compared against experimental data, showing satisfactory agreement. Model predictions for the droplet shape, temperature, flow distribution and vaporised liquid distribution reveal the detailed flow mechanisms that cannot be easily obtained from the experimental observations.  相似文献

Two-phase flow patterns of nitrogen gas and aqueous CuO nanofluids in a vertically capillary tube were investigated experimentally. The capillary tube had an inner diameter of 1.6 mm and a length of 500 mm. Water-based CuO nanofluid was a suspension consisted of water, CuO nanoparticles and sodium dodecyl benzol sulphate solution (SDBS). The mass concentration of CuO nanoparticles varied from 0.2 wt% to 2 wt%, while the volume concentration of SDBS varied from 0.5% to 2%. The gas superficial velocity varied from 0.1 m/s to 40 m/s, while the liquid superficial velocity varied from 0.04 m/s to 4 m/s. Experiments were carried out under atmospheric pressure and at a set temperature of 30 °C. Compared with conventional tubes, flow pattern transition lines occur at relatively lower water and gas flow velocities for gas–water flow in the capillary tube. While, flow pattern transition lines for gas–nanofluid flow occur at lower liquid and gas flow velocities than those for gas–water in the capillary tube. The effect of nanofluids on the two-phase flow patterns results mainly from the change of the gas–liquid surface tension. Concentrations of nanoparticles and SDBS have no effects on the flow patterns in the present concentration ranges.  相似文献

As one of the natural refrigerants, CO2 is a potential substitute for synthesized refrigerants with favorable environmental properties. In order to improve the performance of the CO2 transcritical compression cycle, the performance of the two stage compression cycle with two gas coolers (TSCC + TG) and the two stage compression cycle with intercooler (TSCC + IC) were analyzed, respectively. Under the given calculation condition, the optimum intermediate pressure of the cycle TSCC + TG and the TSCC + IC are 7.09 MPa and 5.89 MPa, and the maximal COP are 2.77 and 3.08, respectively. Range of the given evaporating temperature and outlet temperature of gas cooler, the experimental testing shows that the performance of cycle TSCC + IC are 11.88% and 10.87% better than that of the cycle TSCC + TG, respectively. Range of the given inlet temperature and cooling water volume flow of gas cooler, the refrigeration COP (COPc) and heat COP (COPh) of the cycle TSCC + IC are average 10.97% and 4.39% higher than that of the cycle TSCC + TG. Range of the given inlet temperature and chilled water volume flow of evaporator, the refrigeration COP (COPc) and heat COP (COPh) of the cycle TSCC + IC are average 10.71% and 3.67% higher than that of the cycle TSCC + TG, respectively. The error between theoretical calculation and experimental testing is not exceeds 20%.  相似文献

In this study, an innovative, evaporative condenser for residential refrigerator was introduced. A vapor compression cycle incorporating the proposed evaporative condenser was tested to evaluate the cycle performance. To allow for evaporative cooling, sheets of cloth were wrapped around condenser to suck the water from a water basin by capillary effect. The thermal properties at the different points of the refrigeration cycle were measured for typical operating conditions. The experimental results showed that the condenser temperature increases 0.45 °C for each degree increase in evaporator temperature when the air velocity is 2.5 m/s, and the ambient condition is 29 °C and the relative humidity is 37.5%. Meanwhile, the condenser temperature increase is 0.88 °C in the case of air velocity 1.1 m/s and ambient conditions of 31 °C and relative humidity of 47.1%. A theoretical model for the evaporative condenser was developed, and validated by experimental results. The theoretical model showed that the evaporative condenser can operate at a condensing temperature of 20 C lower than that of the air-cooled condenser for heat flux of 150 W/m2, and at air velocity 3 m/s. The effect of the different parameters on the condenser temperature was studied too.  相似文献

A vapor diffusion model, which takes into account the reduction of droplet temperature during the evaporation process, was used to determine the achievable targets for desalination of seawater at temperatures between 26 °C and 32 °C when the saline water was injected as fine droplets in a low-pressure vaporizer. The temperatures between 26 °C and 32 °C correspond to the warm temperatures of the ocean surface in the tropics. The predictions from the model were verified by a large number of experiments at vacuum pressures between 10 mm and 18 mm mercury. The upper bound of the rate of flow of the saline water in the experiments was 1000 l/h. Typical evaporation time of the droplets was a few hundred milliseconds and this was less than the residence time of the spray provided for in the vaporizer. The yield of fresh water measured in the experiments was between 3% and 4% and matched well with the predictions. Small values of water injection pressures of about 0.1 MPa were found to be adequate when a swirl nozzle, used for garden sprays, was employed. Changes in the height of water injection in the vaporizer did not significantly influence the yield of fresh water.  相似文献
