In the context of deep geological disposal of radioactive waste in clay formations, the thermo-hydromechanical(THM) behavior of the indurated Callovo-Oxfordian and Opalinus clay rocks has been extensively investigated in our laboratory under repository relevant conditions:(1) rock stress covering the range from the lithostatic state to redistributed levels after excavation;(2) variation of the humidity in the openings due to ventilation as well as hydraulic drained and undrained boundary conditions;(3)gas generation from corrosion of metallic components within repositories; and(4) thermal loading from high-level radioactive waste up to the designed maximum temperature of 90℃ and even beyond to150℃. Various important aspects concerning the long-term barrier functions of the clay host rocks have been studied:(1) fundamental concept for effective stress in the porous clay-water system;(2) stressdriven deformation and damage as well as resulting permeability changes;(3) moisture influences on mechanical properties;(4) self-sealing of fractures under mechanical load and swelling/slaking of clay minerals upon water uptake;(5) gas migration in fractured and resealed claystones; and(6) thermal impact on the hydro-mechanical behavior and properties. Underground construction in China is featured by large scale, high speed, long construction period,complex operation and frustrating situations regarding project safety. Various accidents have been reported from time to time, resulting in serious social impact and huge economic loss. This paper presents the main progress in the safety risk management of underground engineering in China over the last decade, i.e.(1) establishment of laws and regulations for safety risk management of underground engineering,(2) implementation of the safety risk management plan,(3) establishment of decision support system for risk management and early-warning based on information technology, and(4) strengthening the study on safety risk management, prediction and prevention. Based on the analysis of the typical accidents in China in the last decade, the new challenges in the safety risk management for underground engineering are identified as follows:(1) control of unsafe human behaviors;(2) technological innovation in safety risk management; and(3) design of safety risk management regulations. Finally, the strategies for safety risk management of underground engineering in China are proposed in six aspects, i.e. the safety risk management system and policy, law, administration, economy, education and technology.  相似文献

Rockburst, an unstable failure of brittle rocks, has been greatly concerned in rock mechanics and rock engineering for more than 100 years. The current understanding on the mechanical mechanism of rockburst is based on the Coulomb theory, i.e. compressive-shear failure theory. This paper illustrates a series of tensile and tensile-shear fracture phenomena of rockburst, and proposes a methodology for the analysis of fracture mode and its energy dissipation process based on Griffith theory. It is believed that: (1) the fracture modes of rockburst should include compressive-shear, tensile-shear and pure tensile failures; (2) the rupture angle of rock mass decreases with the occurrence of tensile stress; (3) the proportion of kinetic energy in the released strain energy from a rockburst may be much larger than that transferred into surface energy; and (4) the understanding on the tensile and tensile-shear failure modes of rockburst may change the basic thinking of rockburst control, i.e. from keeping the reduction in initial compressive stress σ3 to restricting the creation of secondary tensile stress.  相似文献

In this paper, the coupled thermo-mechanical (TM) processes in the sp Pillar Stability Experiment (APSE) carried out by the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB) were simulated using both continuum and discontinuum based numerical methods. Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) finite element method (FEM) and 2D distinct element method (DEM) with particles were used. The main objective for the large scale in situ experiment is to investigate the yielding strength of crystalline rock and the formation of the excavation disturbed/damaged zone (EDZ) during excavation of two boreholes, pressurizing of one of the boreholes and heating. For the DEM simulations, the heat flow algorithm was newly introduced into the original code. The calculated stress, displacement and temperature distributions were compared with the ones obtained from in situ measurements and FEM simulations. A parametric study for initial microcracks was also performed to reproduce the spalling phenomena observed in the APSE.  相似文献

Natural methane(CH_4) oxidation that is carried out through the use of landfill covers(biocovers) is a promising method for reducing CH_4 emissions from landfills.Previous studies on peat-based landfill covers have mainly focused on their biochemical properties(e.g.CH_4 oxidation capacity).However,the utilization of peat as a cover material also requires a solid understanding of its geotechnical properties(thermal,hydraulic,and mechanical),which are critical to the performance of any biocover.Therefore,the objective of this context is to investigate and assess the geotechnical properties of peat-based cover materials(peat,peat-sand mixture),including compaction,consolidation,and hydraulic and thermal conductivities.The studied materials show high compressibility to the increase of vertical stress,with compression index(C_c) values ranging from 0.16 to 0.358.The compressibility is a function of sand content such that the peat-sand mixture(1:3) has the lowest C_c value.Both the thermal and hydraulic conductivities are functions of moisture content,dry density,and sand content.The hydraulic conductivity varies from 1.74 × 10~(-9) m/s to 7.35 × 10~(-9) m/s,and increases with the increase in sand content.The thermal conductivity of the studied samples varies between 0.54 W/(m K) and 1.41 W/(m K) and it increases with the increases in moisture and sand contents.Increases in sand content generally increase the mechanical behavior of peat-based covers;however,they also cause relatively high hydraulic and thermal conductivities which are not favored properties for biocovers.  相似文献
