Graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) onto starch was carried out with ceric ammonium nitrate as initiator under nitrogen atmosphere. The grafting percentages (GP%) of starch‐graft‐AA (St‐gr‐AA) copolymers were determined. When the AA molar concentrations were 0.3 and 0.5 mol/L, GP% of St‐gr‐AA copolymers were 10.5% (St‐gr‐AA‐1) and 14% (St‐gr‐AA‐2), respectively. St‐gr‐AA copolymers have been used for the adsorption of basic dye (Safranine T) from aqueous solutions. Effects of various parameters such as treatment time, initial pH of the solution (pH = 2–6), initial dye concentration (50– 500 mg/L), and GP% of starch graft copolymers were investigated.Basic dye removal capacities of the copolymers increase along with the augment of initial concentration of the adsorbate, GP% of the copolymers, and pH. The adsorption capacities for St‐gr‐AA‐1 and St‐gr‐AA‐2 reach 116.5 and 204 mg/g, respectively. Equilibrium adsorption data were obtained and fitted very well to Freundlich model. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2007  相似文献

Graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) onto starch was carried out with ceric ammonium nitrate as initiator under nitrogen atmosphere. The structures of the synthesized graft copolymers were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The grafting percentages (GP%) of starch-graft-acrylic acid (S-g-AA) copolymers were determined. Increasing the molar concentration of AA from 0.1 to 0.5 mol/L caused a significant increase in the GP%. The effect of GP% of S-g-AA copolymers on the competitive removal of Pb2+, Cu2+, Cd2+ ions from aqueous solution was investigated at pH 4.5. The concentrations of each ion in aqueous solution were equal to each other, which were kept constant at 4 mmol/L. Metal ion removal capacities were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). Metal ion removal capacities of S-g-AA copolymers rose with the increase in GP% of the copolymers and the order of the removal of heavy metal ions was Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Cd2+.  相似文献

The effect of composition of graft chains of four types cellulose graft copolymers on the competitive removal of Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ ions from aqueous solution was investigated. The copolymers used were (1) cellulose‐g‐polyacrylic acid (cellulose‐g‐pAA) with grafting percentages of 7, 18, and 30%; (2) cellulose‐g‐p(AA–NMBA) prepared by grafting of AA onto cellulose in the presence of crosslinking agent of N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide (NMBA); (3) cellulose‐g‐p(AA–AASO3H) prepared by grafting of a monomer mixture of acrylic acid (AA) and 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl propane sulphonic acid (AASO3H) containing 10% (in mole) AASO3H; and (4) cellulose‐g‐pAASO3H obtained by grafting of AASO3H onto cellulose. The concentrations of ions which were kept constant at 4 mmol/L in an aqueous solution of pH 4.5 were equal. Metal ion removal capacities and removal percentages of the copolymers was determined. Metal ion removal capacity of cellulose‐g‐pAA did not change with the increase in grafting percentages of the copolymer and determined to be 0.27 mmol metal ion/gcopolymer. Although the metal removal rate of cellulose‐g‐p(AA–NMBA) copolymer was lower than that of cellulose‐g‐pAA, removal capacities of both copolymers were the same which was equal to 0.24 mmol metal ion/gcopolymer. Cellulose did not remove any ion under the same conditions. In addition, cellulose‐g‐pAASO3H removed practically no ion from the aqueous solution (0.02 mmol metal ion/gcopolymer). The presence of AASO3H in the graft chains of cellulose‐g‐p(AA–AASO3H) created a synergistic effect with respect to metal removal and led to a slight increase in metal ion adsorption capability in comparison to that of cellulose‐g‐pAA. All types of cellulose copolymers were found to be selective for the removal of Pb2+ over Cu2+ and Cd2+. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 2034–2039, 2003  相似文献

A conventional free‐radical initiating process was used to prepare graft copolymers from acrylonitrile (AN) with corn‐cob cellulose with ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as an initiator. The optimum grafting was achieved with corn‐cob cellulose (anhydroglucose unit, AGU), mineral acid (H2SO4), CAN, and AN at concentrations of 0.133, 0.081, 0.0145, and 1.056 mol/L, respectively. Furthermore, the nitrile functional groups of the grafted copolymers were converted to amidoxime ligands with hydroxylamine under basic conditions of pH 11 with 4 h of stirring at 70°C. The purified acrylic polymer‐grafted cellulose and polyamidoxime ligand were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis. The ligand showed an excellent copper binding capacity (4.14 mmol/g) with a faster rate of adsorption (average exchange rate = 7 min), and it showed a good adsorption capacity for other metal ions as well. The metal‐ion adsorption capacities of the ligand were pH‐dependent in the following order: Cu2+ > Co2+ > Mn2+ > Cr3+ > Fe3+ > Zn2+ > Ni2+. The metal‐ion removal efficiency was very high; up to 99% was removed from the aqueous media at a low concentration. These new polymeric chelating ligands could be used to remove aforementioned toxic metal ions from industrial wastewater. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. A series of acrylic monomers–starch graft copolymers were prepared by ceric ion initiation method by varying the amount of monomers. These graft copolymers were characterized by IR and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy. It was seen that as the concentration of monomer [acrylic acid (AA), methacrylic acid (MA), and methyl methacrylate (MMA)] increased the percent add‐on increased in all the graft copolymers, whereas grafting efficiency increased initially but showed a slight decrease with further increase in the monomer concentration (except for MMA). The release rate of paracetamol as a model drug from graft copolymers as well as their blends was studied at two different pH, 1.2 and 7.4, spectrophotometrically. The release of paracetamol in phosphate buffer solution at pH 1.2 was insignificant in the first 3 h for St‐g‐PAA‐ and St‐g‐PMA‐graft copolymers, which was attributed to the matrix compaction and stabilization through hydrogen bonding at lower pH. At pH 7.4, the release rate was seen to decrease with increase in add‐on. The tablet containing poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) did not disintegrate at the end of 30–32 h, which may be attributed to the hydrophobic nature of PMMA. These results indicate that the graft copolymers may be useful to overcome the harsh environment of the stomach and can be used as excipients in colon‐targeting matrices. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new chelating ion‐exchange resin containing the hydroxamic acid functional group was synthesized from poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA)‐grafted sago starch. The PMA grafted copolymer was obtained by a free‐radical initiating process in which ceric ammonium nitrate was used as an initiator. Conversion of the ester groups of the PMA‐grafted copolymer into hydroxamic acid was carried out by treatment of an ester with hydroxylamine in an alkaline solution. The characterization of the poly(hydroxamic acid) chelating resin was performed by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, and DSC analyses. The hydroxamic acid functional group was identified by infrared spectroscopy. The chelating behavior of the prepared resin toward some metal ions was investigated using a batch technique. The binding capacities of copper, iron, chromium, and nickel were excellent and the copper capacity was maximum (3.46 mmol g−1) at pH 6. The rate of exchange of the copper ion was very fast that is, t1/2 < 5 min. It was also observed that the metal ion‐sorption capacities of the resin were pH‐dependent and its selectivity toward the metal ions used is in the following order: Cu2+ > Fe3+ > Cr3+ > Ni2+ > Co2+ > Zn2+ > Cd2+ > As3+ > Pb2+. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Gelatinized starch was prepared by constantly stirring a mixture of starch and water at 95°C for 1 hour. Starch-graft-acrylic acid (S-g-AA) hydrogels were prepared by grafting acrylic acid (AA) [monomer/starch (w/w) 0.5–1.5] onto gelatinized starch with ceric ammonium nitrate as initiator under nitrogen atmosphere. The surface morphology of samples was studied using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The hydrogels were evaluated for the removal of Cu2+ ion from aqueous solutions at different pH. The concentration of Cu2+ ion in aqueous solution was kept constant at 4 mmol/L. The metal ion removal capacities changed depending on treatment time, initial pH of the solution, and monomer/starch (w/w) ratio of the S-g-AA hydrogels. Cu2+ ion removal capacities were determined by atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS).  相似文献

An ion‐exchange resin containing carboxylic acid groups was prepared by reaction of epoxidized soybean oil with triethylene tetramine, followed by hydrolysis of glycerides by using sodium hydroxide solution. The cation exchange capacity of the resins was determined to be 3.50 mequiv/g. The adsorption capacity for Cu2+, Ni2+, and Co2+ on the obtained resin at pH 5.0 was found to be 192, 96, and 78 mg/g, respectively. Effect of pH on the adsorption capacity for copper (II), nickel (II), and cobalt (II) ions were also studied. Cu2+, Ni2+, and Co2+ were adsorbed at a pH above 3. These metal ions adsorbed on the resin are easily eluted by using 1N HCl solution. The selectivity of the resin for Cu2+ from mixtures containing Cu2+/Co2+/Ni2+ ions in the presence of sodium chloride was also investigated © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The work presented involved the fabrication and evaluation of an ion‐imprinted azo‐functionalized phenolic resin for selective extraction of Ni2+ ions from aqueous media. The azo‐containing ligand was first synthesized by coupling of a p‐aminophenol diazonium salt with resorcinol. The ligand was coordinated with Ni2+ ion template before condensation polymerization with formaldehyde and resorcinol was performed. The Ni2+ ions were extracted from the crosslinked resin matrix to finally afford the Ni2+ ion‐imprinted Ni‐PARF adsorbent. The synthetic steps were extensively investigated using elemental analysis and Fourier transform infrared, NMR and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopies. Also, the surface morphologies along with the surface areas of the adsorbent resin were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller techniques, respectively. Batch experiments indicated that the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic equation provided the best fit with the experimentally obtained kinetic data and equilibrium was reached after 40 min. The isotherm studies were also in a good fit with the Langmuir model and the maximum adsorption capacities of Ni2+ ions with respect to both Ni‐PARF and control non‐imprinted C‐PARF adsorbents were around 260 and 100 mg g?1, respectively. In the presence of Co2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+ as competing coexisting ions, the relative selectivity coefficients of Ni‐PARF for Ni2+ were, respectively, 84.91, 44.97, 30.41 and 32.20. Regeneration experiments indicated that after eight adsorption/desorption cycles, the Ni‐PARF adsorbent still maintained around 97% of its initial efficiency. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Amidoximated chitosan‐g‐poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) copolymer was prepared by a reaction between hydroxylamine and cyano group in chitosan‐g‐PAN copolymer prepared by grafting PAN onto crosslinked chitosan with epychlorohydrine. The adsorption and desorption capacities for heavy metal ions were measured under various conditions. The adsorption capacity of amidoximated chitosan‐g‐PAN copolymer increased with increasing pH values, and was increased for Cu2+ and Pb2+ but a little decreased for Zn2+ and Cd2+ with increasing PAN grafting percentage in amidoximated chitosan‐g‐PAN copolymer. In addition, desorption capacity for all metal ions was increased with increasing pH values in contrast to the adsorption results. Stability constants of amidoximated chitosan‐g‐PAN copolymer were higher for Cu2+ and Pb2+ but lower for Zn2+ and Cd2+ than those of crosslinked chitosan. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this study, N,N‐dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide (DMAPMAm) homopolymer and DMAPMAm/itaconic acid (DMAPMAm/IA) copolymers were obtained from 60Co‐γ radiation polymerization. Gel fraction and percentage of swelling values were calculated through gravimetrical calculations. In order to increase the swelling of the hydrogel, the amount of IA in initial copolymer composition was gradually increased, but it was observed that gelation values were low. The structural and morphological assessments of homopolymer and copolymers were made by means of several techniques including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT‐IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Energy‐Dispersive X‐ray Spectroscopy (EDS). The cobalt ion (Co2+) removal capacities of hydrogel were investigated by taking into account of the initial metal ion concentration and pH of aqueous medium. When it came to the maximum capacity of values obtained from adsorption experiments by using Co2+ solutions at pH 5, they changed between 220 and 245 mg Co2+/g dry hydrogel. FT‐IR, SEM, EDS, and XRD analyses were carried out for enlightening the mechanism of Co2+ removal by hydrogels after the completion of adsorption. Also, desorption studies were conducted using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Finally, within approximately 5 days, all adsorbed Co2+ ions were released from hydrogels at pH 5 using 0.1M EDTA solution. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Graft copolymerization of methyl acrylate (MA) and acrylonitrile (AN) onto acacia cellulose was carried out using free radical initiating process in which ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) was used as an initiator. The optimum grafting yield was determined by the certain amount of acacia cellulose (AGU), mineral acid (H2SO4), CAN, MA, and AN at 0.062, 0.120, 0.016, 0.397, and 0.550 mol L?1, respectively. The poly(methyl acrylate‐co‐acrylonitrile)‐grafted acacia cellulose was obtained at 55°C after 2‐h stirring, and purified acrylic polymer‐grafted cellulose was characterized by FTIR and TG analysis. Therein, the ester and nitrile functional groups of the grafted copolymers were reacted with hydroxylamine solution for conversion into the hydroxamic acid and amidoxime ligands. The chelating behavior of the prepared ligands toward some metal ions was investigated using batch technique. The metal ions sorption capacities of the ligands were pH dependent, and the sorption capacity toward the metal ions was in the following order: Zn2+ > Fe3+ > Cr3+ > Cu2+ > Ni2+. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several different composition temperature‐ and pH‐sensitive poly(acrylic acid‐gN‐isopropylacrylamide) (P(AA‐g‐NIPAM)) graft copolymers were synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization utilizing macromonomer technique. The phase behavior and conformation change of P(AA‐g‐NIPAM) in aqueous solutions were investigated by UV–vis transmittance measurements, fluorescence probe, and fluorescence quenching techniques. The results demonstrate that the P(AA‐g‐NIPAM) copolymers have temperature‐ and pH‐sensitivities, and these different composition graft copolymers have different lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and critical phase transition pH values. The LCST of graft copolymer decreases with increasing PNIPAM content, and the critical phase transition pH value increases with increasing Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) content. At room temperature (20°C), different composition of P(AA‐g‐NIPAM) graft copolymers in dilute aqueous solutions (0.001 wt %) have a loose conformation, and there is no hydrophobic microdomain formation within researching pH range (pH 3 ~ 10). In addition, for the P(AA‐g‐NIPAM) aqueous solutions, transition from coil to globular is an incomplete reversible process in heating and cooling cycles. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ni2+‐imprinted monolithic column was prepared for the removal of nickel ions from aqueous solutions. N‐Methacryloyl‐L ‐histidine was used as a complexing monomer for Ni2+ ions in the preparation of the Ni2+‐imprinted monolithic column. The Ni2+‐imprinted poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐N‐methacryloyl‐L ‐histidine) (PHEMAH) monolithic column was synthesized by bulk polymerization. The template ion (Ni2+) was removed with a 4‐(2‐pyridylazo) resorcinol (PAR):NH3? NH4Cl solution. The water‐uptake ratio of the PHEMAH–Ni2+ monolith increased compared with PHEMAH because of the formation of nickel‐ion cavities in the polymer structure. The adsorption of Ni2+ ions on both the PHEMAH–Ni2+ and PHEMAH monoliths were studied. The maximum adsorption capacity was 0.211 mg/g for the PHEMAH–Ni2+ monolith. Fe3+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ ions were used as competitive species in the selectivity experiments. The PHEMAH–Ni2+ monolithic column was 268.8, 25.5, and 10.4 times more selective than the PHEMAH monolithic column for the Zn2+, Cu2+, and Fe3+ ions, respectively. The PHEMAH–Ni2+ monolithic column could be used repeatedly without a decrease in the Ni2+ adsorption capacity. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

A copolymer (4‐HAOF) prepared by condensation of 4‐hydroxyacetophenone and oxamide with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst proved to be a selective chelating ion‐exchange copolymer for certain metals. Chelating ion‐exchange properties of this copolymer were studied for Fe3+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and Hg2+ ions. A batch equilibrium method was employed in the study of the selectivity of metal‐ion uptake involving the measurements of the distribution of a given metal ion between the copolymer sample and a solution containing the metal ion. Copolymers (8‐HQ5‐SAOF) were synthesized by the condensation of 8‐hydroxyquinoline 5‐sulphonic acid (8‐HQ5‐SA) and oxamide (O) with formaldehyde (F) in the presence of acid catalyst. Four different copolymers were synthesized by using varied molar proportion of the reacting monomers. Copolymer resin composition has been determined on the basis of their elemental analysis and average molecular weights of these resins were determined by conductometric titration in nonaqueous medium. Viscometric measurement in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) has been carried out with a view to ascertain the characteristic functions and constants. Electronic spectra, FTIR, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra were studied to elucidate the structures. The newly synthesized copolymer proved to be a selective chelating ion‐exchange copolymer for certain metals. The chelating ion‐exchange properties of this synthesized copolymer was studied for different metal ions such as Fe3+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+. In this study, a porous organic triazine‐based polyimide (PPI network) was prepared from 2,4,6‐tris(hydrazino)‐s‐triazine and 3,4,9,10‐perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride. TGA, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission SEM, XRD and a nitrogen sorption study confirmed the PPI network structure. Then, the synthesized PPI network was used to evaluate Ni2+ ion removal from aqueous solution and the effective parameters on adsorption functions of Ni2+ ions such as initial concentration, contact time and pH of the solution in batch adsorption experiments was studied. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) of Ni2+ ions was 36.1 mg g?1 in only 30 min with a pH of 7. The kinetics and adsorption isotherm were identified to be better fitted by the pseudo‐second‐order model and the Langmuir model, respectively. Based on the results, the proposed adsorbent has good potential for removing Ni2+ ions from aqueous solutions. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Poly(2‐acrylamido glycolic acid‐co‐2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐1‐propane sulfonic acid) [P(AGA‐co‐APSA)] was synthesized by radical polymerization in an aqueous solution. The water‐soluble polymer, containing secondary amide, hydroxyl, carboxylic, and sulfonic acid groups, was investigated, in view of their metal‐ion‐binding properties, as a polychelatogen with the liquid‐phase polymer‐based retention technique under different experimental conditions. The investigated metal ions were Ag+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and Cr3+, and these were studied at pHs 3, 5, and 7. P(AGA‐co‐APSA) showed efficient retention of all metal ions at the pHs studied, with a minimum of 60% for Co(II) at pH 3 and a maximum close to 100% at pH 7 for all metal ions. The maximum retention capacity (n metal ion/n polymer) ranged from 0.22 for Cd2+ to 0.34 for Ag+. The antibacterial activity of Ag+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+ polymer–metal complexes was studied, and P(AGA‐co‐APSA)–Cd2+ presented selective antibacterial activity for Staphylococcus aureus with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 2 μg/mL. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
