Javu Technologies has developed JavuNetwork, a Java-based, network-centric, digital editing application that incorporates streaming technology and targets the emerging Internet video market. According to a recent Georgia Institute of Technology study, 55% of Internet users have already replaced watching television or videos on a VCR with Web surfing on a daily basis. As rich media content - encompassing video, audio, image, animation and text - becomes the communication paradigm of the emerging Web-centric world, tools will be needed to develop and manage such content. Although these tools are indeed necessary for anyone brave enough to surf the Internet today, there is no substitute for sound judgement. Design and implementation of a distributed evolutionary computing software   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Although evolutionary algorithm is a powerful optimization tool, its computation cost involved in terms of time and hardware resources increases as the size or complexity of the problem increases. One promising approach to overcome this limitation is to exploit the inherent parallelism of evolutionary algorithms by creating an infrastructure necessary to support distributed evolutionary computing using existing Internet and hardware resources. This paper presents a Java-based distributed evolutionary computing software (Paladin-DEC), which enhances the concurrent processing and performance of evolutionary algorithms by allowing inter-communications of subpopulations among various computers over the Internet. Such a distributed system enables individuals to migrate among multiple subpopulations according to some patterns to induce diversity of elite individuals periodically, in a way that simulates the species evolve in natural environment. The Paladin-DEC software is capable of keeping data integrity throughout the computation, and is incorporated with the features of robustness, security, fault tolerance, and work balancing. The effectiveness and advantages of the Paladin-DEC are illustrated upon two case studies of drug scheduling in cancer chemotherapy and searching probe sets of yeast genome.  相似文献

Owing to the way networks grow and the advent of mobile computing, the task of physically locating assets is becoming increasingly complex. Network management tools are usually not suitable for management of dynamically moving assets and provide almost no facilities for asset localisation. In addition, asset management products delegate to human operators the task to identify physical asset's location.JLocator is a Java-based system that allows both static and dynamic assets to be physically localised. Based on SNMP and Java, it enables users to locate assets through a simple web interface and allows asset management systems to take advantage of asset location information provided by JLocator. To compare the benefits of the Internet generally versus a focused system of services, 257 breast cancer patients were randomly assigned to a control group, access to the Internet with links to high-quality breast cancer sites, or access to an eHealth system (Comprehensive Health Enhancement Support System, CHESS) that integrated information, support, and decision and analysis tools. The intervention lasted 5 months, and self-report data on quality of life, health-care competence, and social support were collected at pretest and at 2-, 4-, and 9-month posttests. CHESS subjects logged on more overall than Internet subjects and accessed more health resources, but the latter used non health-related sites more. Subjects with access to the Internet alone experienced no better outcomes than controls at any of the 3 time points, compared to pretest levels. Subjects with CHESS experienced greater social support during the intervention period and had higher scores on all 3 outcomes at 9 months, 4 months after the intervention ended. CHESS subjects also scored higher than those with Internet access during the intervention period but not significantly after the intervention ended. Thus, CHESS (with one simple interface and integrated information, communication, and skills services) helped newly diagnosed breast cancer patients even after computers were removed. In contrast, patients received little benefit from Internet access, despite having links to a variety of high-quality sites.  相似文献

Tri-network convergence is becoming a hot topic as interest in 3G, the Internet of things, and cloud computing continues to grow. Most countries now place great emphasis on tri-network convergence and one after the other have prioritized it as a means of developing new strategic sectors. With the arrival of 2011, our magazine has the honor of inviting Mr. Hequan Wu, a telecommunications expert from the Chinese Academy of Engineering to deliver a speech on the characteristics and challenges of tri-network convergence in China. According to Mr. Wu, some developed countries have already achieved tri-network convergence and others are promoting it. China has its own characteristics in implementing tri-network convergence, and these characteristics are bringing new management modes and new challenges. Mr. Wu pointed out that new management modes were needed in the process of tri-network convergence in China, and the introduction of the integrated network broadcasting control platform would bring about new challenges to management modes. Adaption to the platform requires cooperation and innovation. Finally, Mr. Wu emphasized the key to the success of Chinese tri-network convergence was to develop new services and business models.  相似文献

Interoperability remains a significant burden to the developers of Internet of Things systems. This is because resources and APIs are dynamically composed; they are highly heterogeneous in terms of their underlying communication technologies, protocols and data formats, and interoperability tools remain limited to enforcing standards-based approaches. In this paper, we propose model-based engineering methods to reduce the development effort towards ensuring that complex software systems interoperate with one another. Lightweight interoperability models can be specified in order to monitor and test the execution of running software so that interoperability problems can be quickly identified, and solutions put in place. A graphical model editor and testing tool are also presented to highlight how a visual model improves upon textual specifications. We show using case-studies from the FIWARE Future Internet Service domain that the software framework can support non-expert developers to address interoperability challenges.  相似文献

The recent development of cloud computing is touted to offer promising opportunities for service delivery to organizations and communities by sharing computing power, storage and network infrastructure in a more effective and efficient manner. Cloud computing also bears many other issues, particularly in the context of non-democratic countries. Run-time reconfigurable (RTR) systems are FPGA-based systems that reconfigure FPGAs during execution to alter hardware organization and composition to meet the varying needs of applications as they execute. These systems are difficult to describe with conventional tools (schematic capture, VHDL synthesis, etc.) because most tools assume that the underlying hardware organization is static. JHDL is a Java-based design environment capable of describing, netlisting, simulating and executing complex, dynamic RTR systems. Using conventional Java syntax, users describe hardware structures as objects; as these hardware-object constructors are invoked, JHDL automatically configures hardware circuits onto FPGA hardware, thus directly supporting the dynamic nature of RTR systems with standard language constructs. JHDL also supports codesign of the software and hardware parts of the system; in other words, the entire application can be described in a single piece of Java code that can be co-simulated/co-executed with the FPGA hardware. To date, RTR design with JHDL has focused on the development of automated target recognition (ATR) systems, and working systems described in JHDL have been demonstrated.  相似文献

Telemedicine is having a great impact on the monitoring of patients located in remote non-clinical environments, such as homes, elderly communities, gymnasiums, schools, remote military bases, ships, and the like. A number of applications, ranging from data collection to chronic patient surveillance, and even to the control of therapeutic procedures, are being implemented in many parts of the world. As part of this growing trend, this paper discusses the problems in electrocardiogram (ECG) real-time data acquisition, transmission and visualization over the Internet. ECG signals are transmitted in real time from a patient in a remote non-clinical environment to a specialist in a hospital or clinic using the current capabilities and availability of the Internet. A prototype system is described that is composed of (1) a portable data acquisition and pre-processing module connected to the computer at the remote site via its RS-232 port, (2) a Java-based client-server platform, and (3) software modules to handle communication protocols between the data acquisition module and the patient's personal computer, and to handle client-server communication. The purpose of the system is the provision of extended monitoring for patients under drug therapy after infarction, data collection in some particular cases, remote consultation and low-cost ECG monitoring for the elderly  相似文献
