The success of mobile networks has been driven by the services offered, i.e. voice in second generation and multimedia services in third generation networks. Similarly, a key issue for the success of future generation networks is considered to be the provision of enhanced, always available, personalised services. At the same time, the complexity and heterogeneity of the infrastructure of mobile network operators increases as Radio Access Technologies continue to evolve and new ones emerge. All these issues call for self-management and learning capabilities in future generation network systems. Cognitive, reconfigurable systems encompassing self-management and learning capabilities have been devised as a solution in this direction. Cognitive systems determine their behaviour, in a self-managed way. This is done reactively or proactively, based on goals, policies, knowledge and experience obtained through learning. This paper focuses on the user device and presents a Cognitive Device Management System that comprises mechanisms for dynamically selecting the optimal device configuration, taking into account user preferences, device environment characteristics (context), policies, and knowledge established through machine learning functionality.  相似文献

To support the massive demand for mobile services third generation land mobile systems will be based on a new architecture concept and adaptive techniques. Moreover, these systems are expected to offer service quality comparable to that of fixed networks contemporary to their deployment. Second generation mobile radio systems have been successfully deployed worldwide. These systems are evolved to higher data rates and packet transmission. Third generation mobile radio systems will be initially deployed in 2001 and 2002 in different regions of the world. Advanced multimedia services are under development and first services are already being offered in second generation systems. Due to the megatrend of the rapid growth of Internet type services packet oriented traffic is exceeding circuit switched traffic. Therefore, communication systems will be developed and optimized for packed oriented traffic. This paper presents a vision of a system beyond third generation mobile communications, which comprises a combination of several optimized access systems on a common IP based medium access and core network platform. These different access systems will interwork by horizontal and vertical handover, service negotiation and global roaming. The different access systems are allocated to different mutually complementing cell layers with respect to cell size, coverage and mobility to provide globally optimized seamless services to users.  相似文献

Digital mobile telecommunication systems have become a future trend in personal communications services (PCS) networks. To satisfy the demand for high quality services, security functions, including the authentications of communication parties and the confidentiality of communication channels, must be embedded into mobile communication systems. This work presents an authentication scheme to support the security functions. The proposed protocol significantly improves the performance of authentications and ensures the security of mobile communications in a large-scale communication network with multiple service providers. With the important breakthrough of optical fibre techniques over the past few years, a new type of broadband networks is emerging offering a wide range of services, including existing telecommunication services. The French telecommunication administration installs presently a first generation of broadband networks using optical fibres and broadband switchings, the so-called vidéocommunication networks. When specifying these networks, one important aspect was to assure that these networks can also offer telecommunication services and can evolve in a way to become the basis of a future national telecommunication network. Third generation mobile radio systems are currently being deployed in different regions of the world. Future systems beyond the third generation are already under discussion in international bodies and forums such as ITU, WWRF and R&D programmes of the European Union and in other regions. These systems will determine the research and standardisation activities in mobile and wireless communication in the next years. Based on experience of the third generation, future systems will be developed mainly from the user perspective with respect to potential services and applications including traffic demands. Therefore, the Wireless World Research Forum was launched in 2001 as a global and open initiative of manufacturers, network operators, SMEs, R&D centres and the academic domain. WWRF is focused on the vision of such systems - the Wireless World-and potential key technologies. This paper describes the international context of activities on systems beyond third generation, the goals, objectives and structure of WWRF, the user perspective as the starting point for a future system design and the key enabling technologies for the Wireless World.  相似文献

Convergence has more than ever been a central issue for fixed and mobile operators throughout the world and is considered to be the next big step in the evolution of telecommunication networks. Convergence opens new market opportunities and competition among network operators and above all offers enhanced user experience. Multimode handsets and the proliferation of terminals and access technologies are generating increasing demands for solutions that enable convergence, seamless handover, and transparent service delivery across heterogeneous access networks. Different strategies are available for operators, depending on the services they intend to deliver to their customers, from basic commercial convergence limited to unified billing for Fixed/Mobile/Internet up to in-dept network convergence covering new applications and services. This article surveys different technologies which offer seamless handover and converged access to mobile voice, video, and data services. It provides first the different network parts involved in defining the operator global convergence strategy and then surveys different technologies which achieve this step-by-step convergence. We present the main features of these technologies and discuss their limitations and potentials to enable convergence in heterogeneous networks. We also provide a personal stance as to the emergence of these technologies and our vision towards the long term converged telecommunication networks.  相似文献

The mobile network evolution from second generation to third generation systems has opened possibilities for inclusion of new technologies both in the network infrastructure as well as on the radio access. Within this paper, we concentrate on the evolution of the network infrastructure towards a future mobile network that balances the demand for increased flexibility with the necessity of limiting system complexity. Based on existing architectures, to lower complexity such as layered architecture for the core network and mobile packet backbone, we describe one possible evolution path for the control layer. Our approach is a step towards a control space that includes packetpipe control functions for a multitude of packetpipes. The development of mobile standards has been a key factor in the widespread success and take-up of second generation (2G) cellular systems. Well though through standards, including roaming aspects, have enabled operators, using equipment from different manufacturers, to create global mobile networks, which allow users to roam seamlessly and obtain largely the same services wherever they happen to be. Third generation (3G) standards have built on the success of 2G and have increased the global awareness and applicability. 随着第三代移动通信标准的日趋成熟,其产品预计可在2004年前后投入商用。本文在分析市场需求、技术发展现状和保护已有设备投资的基础上,从保证我国移动通信产业、运营商和移动用户利益出发提出:第一步,在IMT-2000核心网成熟之前,采用现有的GSM/GPRS核心网,通过A和Gb接口提供话音和数据业务;空中接口采用频谱利用率高、符合IMT2000要求的TD-SCDMA技术,以满足高话务量区域的需求。第二步,采用成熟的IMT-2000核心网(Release2000)、IMT2000FDD和TD-SCDMA无线传输技术,逐步形成第三代移动通信系统。  相似文献

The third generation networks and services present opportunities to offer multimedia applications and services that meet end-to-end quality of service requirements. The key parts of the standards are already in place, and limited 3G services have already been turned on. While the evolution to 3G occurs, many operators will implement 2.5G interim solutions for a good period of time.
