Group-blind multiuser detection for uplink CDMA   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
Previously developed blind techniques for multiuser detection in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems lead to several near-far resistant adaptive receivers for demodulating a given user's data with the prior knowledge of only the spreading sequence of that user. In the CDMA uplink, however, typically the base station receiver has the knowledge of the spreading sequences of all the users within the cell, but not that of the users from other cells. In this paper, group-blind techniques are developed for multiuser detection in such scenarios. These new techniques make use of the spreading sequences and the estimated multipath channels of all known users to suppress the intracell interference, while blindly suppressing the intercell interference. Several forms of group-blind linear detectors are developed based on different criteria. Moreover, group-blind multiuser detection in the presence of correlated noise is also considered. In this case, two receiving antennas are needed for channel estimation and signal separation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed group-blind linear multiuser detection techniques offer substantial performance gains over the blind linear multiuser detection methods in a CDMA uplink environment  相似文献

We consider the problem of demodulating and decoding multiuser information symbols in an uplink asynchronous coded code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system employing long (aperiodic) spreading sequences, in the presence of unknown multipath channels, out-cell multiple-access interference (OMAI), and narrow-band interference (NBI). A blind turbo multiuser receiver, consisting of a novel blind Bayesian multiuser detector and a bank of MAP decoders, is developed for such a system. The effect of OMAI and NBI is modeled as colored Gaussian noise with some unknown covariance matrix. The main contribution of this paper is to develop blind Bayesian multiuser detectors for long-code multipath CDMA systems under both white and colored Gaussian noise. Such detectors are based on the Bayesian inference of all unknown quantities. The Gibbs sampler, a Markov chain Monte Carlo procedure, is then used to calculate the Bayesian estimates of the unknowns. The blind Bayesian multiuser detector computes the a posteriori probabilities of the channel coded symbols, which are differentially encoded before being sent to the channel. Being soft-input soft-output in nature, the proposed blind Bayesian multiuser detectors and the MAP decoders can iteratively exchange the extrinsic information to successively refine the performance, leading to the so-called blind turbo multiuser receiver  相似文献

Wang and Host-Madsen (see IEEE J. Select. Areas Commun., vol.17, p.1971-84, 1999) developed group-blind multiuser detectors for use in code-division multiple-access (CDMA) uplink environments in which the base station receiver has the knowledge of the spreading sequences of all the users within the cell, but not that of the users from other cells. Yu and Host-Madsen (see Proc. IEEE Vehicular Technology Conf. (VTC99), Houston, TX, p.1042-46, 1999) later developed an adaptive version of this detector for synchronous CDMA channels. We develop a new low-complexity, high-performance subspace tracking algorithm and apply it to adaptive group-blind multiuser detection in asynchronous multipath CDMA channels. The detector can track changes in the number of users and their composite signature waveforms. We present steady-state performance as well as the ability of the receiver to track changes in the signal subspace. We also address the performance gain of the group-blind detector over its blind counterpart for this application  相似文献

This paper presents blind channel estimation for downlink W-CDMA system that employs chaotic codes and Walsh codes for spreading information bits of the multiple users. In a W-CDMA system, while transmitting over multipath channels, both intersymbol interference (ISI) as a result of Inter Chip Interference and multiple access interference (MAI) cannot be easily eliminated. Although it is possible to design multiuser detectors that suppress MAI and ISI, these detectors often require explicit knowledge of at least the desired users’ signature waveform. Earlier work focused on a subspace based channel estimation algorithm for asynchronous CDMA systems to estimate the multiple users’ symbols, where only AWGN channel was considered. In our work, we study a similar subspace-based signature waveform estimation algorithm for downlink W-CDMA systems, which use chaotic codes instead of pseudo random codes, that provide estimates of the multiuser channel by exploiting structural information of the data output at the base station. In particular, we show that the subspace of the (data+noise) matrix contains sufficient information for unique determination of channels, and hence, the signature waveforms and signal constellation. We consider Rayleigh and Rician fading channel model to quantify the multipath channel effects. Performance measures like bit error rate and root mean square error are plotted for both chaotic codes and Walsh codes under Rayleigh and Rician fading channels.  相似文献

Recently developed subspace techniques for blind adaptive multiuser detection are briefly reviewed first. In particular, blind methods based on signal subspace tracking for adapting linear multiuser detectors in AWGN CDMA channels are considered, as well as extensions of these techniques to frequency selective fading channels, dispersive channels, and antenna array spatial processing. In addition, subspace‐based nonlinear adaptive techniques for robust blind multiuser detection in non‐Gaussian ambient noise channels are also described. Several new techniques are then developed within the subspace framework for blind joint channel estimation and multiuser detection, under some specific channel conditions. These include (1) an adaptive receiver structure for joint multiuser detection and equalization in dispersive CDMA channels, (2) a subspace method for joint multiuser detection and equalization in unknown correlated noise, and (3) a method for joint interference suppression and channel tracking in time‐varying fading channels. A channel estimation technique in the uplink of a noncoherent DS/CDMA system with M-ary orthogonal signalling over multipath fading channels is considered. This method is used for the multiuser interference cancellation with coherent detection. The performance of the proposed multiuser detector is compared with that of a conventional detector and a significant improvement of performance is shown  相似文献

Blind multiuser channel estimation in asynchronous CDMA systems   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
In asynchronous code division multiple access (A-CDMA) systems transmitting over multipath channels, both intersymbol interference (ISI) as a result of interchip interference (ICI) and multiple access interference (MAI) cannot be easily eliminated. Although it is possible to design multiuser detectors that suppress MAI and ISI, these detectors often require explicit knowledge of at least the desired users' signature waveform. Recently, Liu and Xu (see Proc. 29th Asilomar Conf. Signals, Systems and Computers, 1996) introduced a blind estimation algorithm for synchronous CDMA (S-CDMA) systems to estimate the multiuser channels. However, this algorithm cannot be directly applied to an asynchronous CDMA (A-CDMA) system. In this paper, we study a similar blind estimation scheme that provides estimates of the multiuser channels by exploiting the structure information of the data output and the users' delays. In particular, we show that the subspace of the data matrix contains sufficient information for unique determination of channels and, hence, the signature waveforms. By utilizing antenna arrays, we extended our approach to overloaded systems, where the number of users may exceed the spreading factor  相似文献

This letter proposes a unified approach to joint iterative parameter estimation and interference cancellation (IC) for uplink CDMA systems in multipath channels. A unified framework is presented in which the IC problem is formulated as an optimization problem of an IC parameter vector for each stage and user. We also propose detectors based on a least-squares (LS) joint optimization method for estimating the linear receiver filter front-end, the IC, and the channel parameters. Simulations for the uplink of a synchronous DS-CDMA system show that the proposed methods significantly outperform the best known IC schemes.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the receiver design problem for the uplink multiuser code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system based on the neural network technique. The uplink multiuser CDMA communication system model is described in the form of space–time domain through antenna array and multipath fading expression. Novel suitable neural network technique is proposed as an effective signal processing method for the receiver of such an uplink multiuser CDMA system. By the appropriate choice of the channel state information for the neural network parameters, the neural network can collectively resolve the effects of both the inter-symbol interference due to the multipath fading channel and the multiple access interference in the receiver of the uplink multiuser CDMA communication system. The dynamics of the proposed neural network receiver for the uplink multiuser CDMA communication system is also studied.  相似文献

The linear subspace-based blind and group-blind multiuser detectors recently developed represent a robust and efficient adaptive multiuser detection technique for code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems. In this paper, we consider adaptive transmitter optimization strategies for CDMA systems operating in fading multipath environments in which these detectors are employed. We make use of more recent results on the analytical performance of these blind and group-blind receivers in the design and analysis of the transmitter optimization techniques. In particular, we develop a maximum-eigenvector-based method of optimizing spreading codes for given channel conditions and a utility-based power control algorithm for CDMA systems with blind or group-blind multiuser detection. We also design a receiver incorporating joint optimization of spreading codes and transmitter power by combining these algorithms in an iterative configuration. We will see that the utility-based power control algorithm allows us to efficiently set performance goals through utility functions for users in heterogeneous traffic environments and that spreading code optimization allows us to achieve these goals with lower transmit power. The signal processing algorithms presented here maintain the blind (or group-blind) nature of the receiver and are distributed, i.e., all power and spreading code adjustments can be made using only locally available information.  相似文献

In Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) radio environments, the maximum number of supportable users per cell is limited by multipath fading, shadowing, multiple access interference and near-far effects which cause fluctuations of the received power at the base station. In this context, power control and signal detection are essential to provide satisfactory Quality of Service (QoS) and to combat the near-far problem in CDMA systems. In this paper, we raised the uplink power control problem for a generalize asynchronous direct-sequence (DS) CDMA system that explicitly incorporate into the analysis: (1) the propagation delays in the network (generally neglected in the literature), (2) the adverse effect of multipath fading for wireless channels, and (3) the asynchronous transmissions in the uplink channels. This framework is used to propose a distributed power control strategy enhanced with linear multiuser receivers. It is shown that through a proper selection of an error function, the nonlinear coupling among active users is transformed into individual linear loops. A Linear-Quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) power control strategy is derived and compared with other approaches from the literature. Simulation results show that the uplink channel variations do not destroy the stability of these power control structures. However, delays in the closed-loop paths can severely affect the stability and performance of the resulting feedback schemes. It is also shown that the use of multiuser detection at the base station can bring significant improvements to the performance of power control.  相似文献

The problem of joint multiuser detection and channel estimation in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading CDMA channels is considered. First the optimal multiuser detector for such channels is derived, which is seen to have a computational complexity exponential in the product of the number of users and the length of the transmitted data sequence. Two suboptimal detectors are then developed and analyzed, both of which employ decorrelating filters at the front-ends to eliminate the multiple-access interference and the multipath interference. The symbol-by-symbol detector uses a Kalman filter and decision feedback to track the fading channel for diversity combining. The per-survivor sequence detector is in the form of the Viterbi algorithm with the trellis updates being computed by a bank of Kalman filters in the per-survivor fashion. Both suboptimal detectors require the knowledge of all waveforms of all users in the channel and the channel fading model parameters. Adaptive versions of these suboptimal detectors that require only the knowledge of the waveform of the user of interest are then developed. The adaptive receivers employ recursive-least-squares (RLS) minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) filters at the front-end to mitigate the interference, and use a bank of linear predictors to track the fading channels. It is shown that the front-end RLS-MMSE filters can be implemented using systolic arrays to exploit massively parallel signal processing computation, and to achieve energy efficiency. Finally, the performance of the suboptimal detectors and their adaptive versions are assessed by simulations. In many physical channels where multiuser detection techniques are to be applied, the ambient channel noise is known through experimental measurements to be decidedly non-Gaussian, due largely to impulsive phenomena. This is due to the impulsive nature of man-made electromagnetic interference and a great deal of natural noise. This paper presents a robust multiuser detector for combating multiple access interference and impulsive noise in code division multiple access (CDMA) communication systems. A new M-estimator is proposed for "robustifying" the detector. The approach is corroborated with simulation results to evaluate the performance of the proposed robust multiuser detector compared with that of the linear decorrelating detector, and the Huber and the Hampel M-estimator based detectors. Simulation results show that the proposed detector with significant performance gain outperforms the linear decorrelating detector, and the Huber and the Hampel M-estimator based detectors. This paper also presents an improved robust blind multiuser detection technique based on a subspace approach, which requires only the signature waveform and the timing of the desired user to demodulate that user's signal. Finally, we show that the robust multiuser detection technique and its blind adaptive version can be applied to both synchronous and asynchronous CDMA channels.  相似文献

A linear multiuser receiver for a particular user in a code-division multiple-access (CDMA) network gains potential benefits from knowledge of the channels of all users in the system. In fast multipath fading environments we cannot assume that the channel estimates are perfect and the inevitable channel estimation errors will limit this potential gain. We study the impact of channel estimation errors on the performance of linear multiuser receivers, as well as the channel estimation problem itself. Of particular interest are the scalability properties of the channel and data estimation algorithms: what happens to the performance as the system bandwidth and the number of users (and hence channels to estimate) grows? Our main results involve asymptotic expressions for the signal-to-interference ratio of linear multiuser receivers in the limit of large processing gain, with the number of users divided by the processing gain held constant. We employ a random model for the spreading sequences and the limiting signal-to-interference ratio expressions are independent of the actual signature sequences, depending only on the system loading and the channel statistics: background noise power, energy profile of resolvable multipaths, and channel coherence time. The effect of channel uncertainty on the performance of multiuser receivers is succinctly captured by the notion of effective interference  相似文献

We develop an iterative code-division multiple-access (CDMA) receiver for multipath block-fading channels in the uplink. The mean-square error (MSE) of the channel estimates is reduced iteratively by using soft data estimates as additional pilots. The multiuser detector performs parallel interference cancellation (PIC) with subsequent linear filtering. We consider a single-user matched filter (SUMF) and develop a low-complexity linear minimum MSE (LMMSE) filter for intersymbol interference (ISI) channels that allows for 33% more users than the SUMF. We investigate two choices of training sequences for initial channel estimation. The first is a random pilot symbol sequence modulated by a short spreading sequence (RAND), and the second is a perfect root of unity sequence (PRUS) used as long sounding chip sequence. We observe that the RAND scheme approaches the single-user bound up to 2 dB and in case of PRUS up to 1 dB at a target bit error rate (BER) of$10^-3$. Further, several channel estimators are developed that use various combinations of soft decision symbols and statistical a priori knowledge about the channel. These are the approximated least-squares (ALS), approximated linear MMSE (ALMMSE), and linear MMSE (LMMSE) estimators. The iterative estimators show an improvement of 2.5 and 5 dB with PRUS and RAND pilots, respectively, over estimators that do not exploit soft feedback symbols at a BER of$10^-3$. The ALS is sacrificing less than 0.6 dB to obtain a BER of$10^-3$in a system at load 1.5 when compared with the ALMMSE and LMMSE schemes. The load is understood as the ratio of the number of users to the spreading factor. This paper shows that significant improvements in system capacity can be achieved in multipath scenarios with low-complexity choices of multiuser detectors and channel estimators.  相似文献

Robust multiuser detection in non-Gaussian channels   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
In many wireless systems where multiuser detection techniques may be applied, the ambient channel noise is known through experimental measurements to be decidedly non-Gaussian, due largely to impulsive phenomena. The performance of many multiuser detectors can degrade substantially in the presence of such impulsive ambient noise. We develop robust multiuser detection techniques for combating multiple-access interference and impulsive noise in CDMA communication systems. These techniques are based on the M-estimation method for robust regression. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed robust techniques offer significant performance gain over linear multiuser detectors in impulsive noise, with little attendant increase in computational complexity. We also develop a subspace-based technique for blind adaptive implementation of the robust multiuser detectors, which requires only the signature waveform and the timing of the desired user in order to demodulate that user's signal. The robust multiuser detection technique and its blind adaptive version can be applied to both synchronous and asynchronous CDMA channels  相似文献

We explore code-division multiple-access systems with multiple transmitter and receiver antennas combined with algebraic constellations over a quasi-static multipath fading channel. We first propose a technique to obtain transmit diversity for a single user over quasi-static fading channels by combining algebraic constellations with full spatial diversity and spreading sequences with good cross-correlation properties. The proposed scheme is then generalized to a multiuser system using the same algebraic constellation and different spreading sequences. We also propose a linear multiuser detector based on the combination of linear decorrelation with respect to all users, and the application of the sphere decoder to decode each user separately. Finally, we consider the generalization to multipath fading channels where the additional diversity advantage due to multipath is exploited by the sphere decoder, and a method of blind channel estimation based on subspace decomposition is examined.  相似文献

This paper proposes and investigates a novel code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system. This two-layer spreading CDMA (TLS-CDMA) system can combat multiple-access interference (MAI) and multipath interference (MPI) simultaneously and effectively in a multiuser scenario over frequency-selective fading channels. Moreover, a two-layer cell-specific scrambling code is proposed for the TLS-CDMA system in the uplink transmission to efficiently suppress other-cell interference (OCI) in a multicell environment. The proposed TLS-CDMA system allows the two-layer spreading factors to be adapted to the cell structure, the channel conditions, and the number of active users to support variable data rate transmission among multiple users. The superior performance of the TLS-CDMA system over other uplink transmission systems, such as cyclic prefix CDMA (CP-CDMA) and multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA), is also illustrated using performance analysis and simulation results.   相似文献
