The use of scrapped elastomeric goods primarily service failed or worn-out tires is a challenging task for the rubber society. To address this issue, recycling and reusing of these tires by different technique bring major relief toward environmental concern. Recycling technology generates secondary raw materials, which are important resources for manufacturing industries and contribute significantly for the sustainability in circular economy. In this work, an effort was made to understand the retention of physical properties as a function of crumb rubber loading and particle size. Four different sizes of cryogenically shredded crumb rubber particles (120, 140, 200, and 270 mesh) were physicochemically characterized and incorporated by 10 phr of each in two different grades of carbon black–filled, natural rubber–based tread compound. The mixed compounds were characterized and compared with the control one. Optical microscope and scanning electron microscope analyses concluded that the finer the particle size, the better is the dispersion of crumb rubber particles which provide superior mechanical, extrusion, and wear properties. Tensile properties were retained around 95%–97% for both 270-mesh loaded compounds, which indicates that reduction in particle size can increase the volume of recycled product utilization. 相似文献

This work is related to the preliminary lab-scale preparation of ceramic slabs, reproducing the characteristics of natural stones, containing up to more than 40 wt.% of different waste materials, namely laboratory glass, cullet glass (both thought as fluxing agents replacing feldspar), and ceramic waste obtained from drying squaring operations (for partial quartz sand replacement). Indeed, in order to pursue the circular economy principles, the possibility of turning different kinds of wastes into resources for the ceramic industry, surely represents the first concern to be addressed and demonstrated, with also the aim to reduce the environmental impact associated with landfill, minimizing manufacturing cost and contributing to preserve nonrenewable natural resources, which are known to be consistently depleted by the ceramic industries. 相似文献

The development of new building materials based on alkaline activation technology is very promising, mainly linked to products that need significant technological properties and durability due to their adverse service conditions and environmental exposure. The objective of this research was to evaluate the development of a circular economy within the scope of durability of ceramic pieces incorporating glass polishing waste aimed at the production of roof tiles, obtained by the geopolymerization process. Two methodologies to evaluate the sample's durability were studied: wetting and drying cycles; and exposure to salt spray; both simulating conditions that tiles typically face in normal conditions. Prismatic specimens were made with an alkaline solution/(metakaolin + waste) ratio = 0.26; a SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio = 3.5, 4, and 4.5; and with ambient and thermal cure at 7 days. Samples were evaluated in their mechanical strength, mass loss, and water absorption. Results showed that the SiO2/Al2O3 = 4.0 ratio with thermal curing had the best behavior in aggressive conditions, and therefore, this formulation can be used for the production of tiles. 相似文献

This paper describes the use of industrial wastes arising from different production processes of the ceramic and marble industries as raw materials for the design and formulation of new cement clinkers with a high content of dicalcium silicate (Belite). The aim was to reintroduce these wastes in the industrial sector and take advantage of them for a greater environmental benefit, as indicated by the principles of the circular economy. Formulations containing 2.5, 5 and 10 wt% of chamotte and marble sludge, respectively, and a waste-free formulation have been designed to obtain clinkers with a content of dicalcium silicate higher than 60 wt%. The different blends have been studied up to a maximum temperature of 1390°C by Thermal Analysis. Other techniques such as XRD, XRF, Modified Bogue Equation, Quality Indexes (LSF, AM, SM) and Optical Microscopy have been used for the study and characterization of industrial wastes, the raw materials and the high belite-type cement dosages. The results indicate that this type of cements can be designed using different types of wastes and in this way reduce the environmental impacts caused by the extraction of raw materials and the deposition of the wastes in landfills, improving the circular economy of the construction industry. 相似文献
