Ultra‐high‐molecular‐weight polyethylene (PE) with viscosity‐average molecular weight (Mv) of 3.1 × 106 to 5.2 × 106 was prepared with a heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/triethylaluminum catalyst system under controlled conditions. The optimum activity of the catalyst was obtained at a [Al]/[Ti] molar ratio of 61 : 1 and a polymerization temperature of 60°C, whereas the activity of the catalyst increased with monomer pressure and decreased with hydrogen concentration. The titanium content of the catalyst was 2.4 wt %. The rate/time profile of the catalyst was a decay type with a short acceleration period. Mv of the PE obtained decreased with increasing hydrogen concentration and polymerization temperature. The effect of stirrer speeds from 100 to 400 rpm did not so much affect the catalyst activity; however, dramatic effects were observed on the morphology of the polymer particles obtained. A stirrer speed of 200 rpm produced PE with a uniform globulelike morphological growth on the polymer particles. The particle size distributions of the polymer samples were determined and were between 14 and 67 μm. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

The polymerization of N‐phenylmaleimide was carried out with the binary rare‐earth coordination catalyst lanthanum phosphonate [La(P507)]–trisobutyl aluminum [Al(i‐Bu)3] in toluene at 60°C. The dependence of the polymerization on the polymerization time, the molar ratio of Al(i‐Bu)3 to La(P507), and the concentration of the catalyst were studied. The structures of the resultant polymer were characterized with 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry, and the thermal properties of the polymer were measured with thermogravimetric analysis. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A copolymer of phenylisocyanate (PhNCO) and ε‐caprolactone (CL) was synthesized by the rare earth chloride systems lanthanide chloride isopropanol complex (LnCl3·3iPrOH) and propylene epoxide (PO). Polymerization conditions were investigated, such as lanthanides, reaction temperature, monomer feed ratio, La/PO molar ratio, and aging time of catalyst. The optimum conditions were: LaCl3 preferable, [PhNCO]/[CL] in feed = 1 : 1 (molar ratio), 30°C, [monomer]/[La] = 200, [PO]/[La] = 20, aging 15 min, polymerization in bulk for 6 h. Under such conditions the copolymer obtained had 39 mol % PhNCO with a 78.2% yield, Mn = 20.3 × 103, and Mw/Mn = 1.60. The copolymers were characterized by GPC, TGA, 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR, and the results showed that the copolymer obtained had a blocky structure with long sequences of each monomer unit. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Styrene (St) was polymerized in toluene solution by using bis(β‐ketoamino)nickel(II) complex as the catalyst precursor and methylaluminoxane (MAO) as the cocatalyst. The polymerization conditions, such as Al : Ni ratio, monomer concentration, reaction temperature, and polymerization time, were studied in detail. Both of the bis(β‐ketoamino)nickel(II)/MAO catalytic systems exhibited higher activity for polymerization of styrene, and polymerization gave moderate molecular weight of polystyrene with relatively narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn < 1.6). The obtained polymer was confirmed to be atactic polystyrene by analyzing the stereo‐triad distributions mm, mr, and rr of aromatic carbon C1 in NMR spectrum of the polymer. The mechanism of the polymerization was also discussed and a metal–carbon coordination mechanism was proposed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2007  相似文献

This work was committed to the polymerization of hydrophobic ketoethyl methacrylate monomer in aqueous medium in the presence of cyclodextrin, instead of polymerizing the monomer in toxic and volatile organic solvents. For this purpose, a new ketoethyl methacrylate monomer, p‐methylphenacylmethacrylate (MPMA), was synthesized from the reaction of p‐methylphenacylbromide with sodium methacrylate in the presence of triethylbenzylammonium chloride. The monomer was identified with FTIR, 1H and 13C‐NMR spectroscopies. Hydroxypropyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (HPCD) was used to form a water‐soluble host/guest inclusion complex (MPMA/HPCD) with the hydrophobic monomer. The complex was identified with FTIR and NMR techniques and polymerized in aqueous medium using potassium persulfate as initiator. During polymerization the resulting hydrophobic methacrylate polymer precipitated out with a majority of HPCD left in solution and a minority of HPCD bonded on the resulting polymer. The thus‐prepared polymer exhibited little difference from the counterparts obtained in organic solvent in number average molecular weight (Mn), polydispersity (Mw/Mn) and yield. The investigation provides a novel strategy for preparing hydrophobic ketoethyl methacrylate polymer in aqueous medium by using a monomer/HPCD inclusion complex. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of dicyclopentadiene catalyzed by TiCl4 · 2L/CH3Li system [where L is tetrahydropyran (1), dioxane, 2,5‐dimethylfuran, or tetrahydrofurfyl alcohol] is reported. The obtained polymer was characterized by IR and 1H‐NMR. These catalytic systems effectively promoted the polymerization reaction. Seven influencing factors are discussed. When the aging temperature was 0°C, the aging time was 90 min, the polymerization temperature was 60°C, Li/Ti was 1.5–2, and the monomer/catalyst molar ratio ranged between 30 and 50, the polymerization reaction catalyzed by complex 1 yielded better results within a shorter period of time. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A zinc‐based catalyst zinc bis[bis(trimethylsilyl)amide] was used for the polymerization of cyclic esters including L ‐lactide (L ‐LA) and 2‐methyl‐2‐carboxyl‐propylene carbonate (MBC). The polymerization of L ‐lactide in THF could be carried out successfully under mild conditions in very short time by using the zinc catalyst and alcohols as the initiators. Kinetic study in solution polymerization prooved the polymerization has high monomer conversion degree close to 100% and the molecular weight of the resulting polyester has linear increase with the increase of [M]0 /[I] (molar ratio of monomer to initiator). Sequential polymerization of L ‐LA and MBC in THF also showed high MBC conversion of 94% with a narrow molecualr weight maintained, indicating a living nature of this polymerization. The zinc catalyst system has also been used for the L ‐LA bulk polymerization with a high monomer conversion. 13C NMR indicated the polymer possesses high regioregularity and the minor regioirregular component was owing to the D ‐LA in the monomer inserted into the polymer mainchain during the transesterifcation. Interaction between monomer and zinc catalyst has been found to be a key factor to sustain a homogenous solution during the initiating procedure. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta systems—MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/di‐n‐butyl phthalate (DNBP)/triethylaluminum (TEA)/dimethoxymethylcyclohexylsilane (DMMCHS) and SiO2/MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/DNBP/TEA/DMMCHS—were studied for the polymerization of propylene. The slurry polymerization of propylene was carried out with the catalyst systems in n‐heptane. Both systems performed with optimum activity at a particular [Al]/[DMMCHS]/[Ti] molar ratio. The ratio to reach the highest activity was much lower for the bisupported catalyst system. The productivity of the bisupported catalyst was higher than that of the monosupported one. Polypropylene of a high isotacticity index (II; >96%) was obtained with both systems and did not significantly change with an increasing [Al]/[DMMCHS]/[Ti] molar ratio. The addition of hydrogen as a chain‐transfer agent reduced II of the polymers obtained with both systems. The effect of the polymerization temperature (40–75°C) on the viscosity‐average molecular weight (Mv) and II showed a decrease in both cases. The bisupported catalyst system produced a polymer with higher Mv. The effect of temperature on II was similar for both the monosupported and bisupported systems. A monomer pressure of 2.02 × 105 to 0.8 × 106 Pa increased Mv of the obtained polymer. II of the polymer slightly decreased with increasing monomer pressure. The titanium content of the catalyst was 1.70 and 3.55% for the monosupported and bisupported systems, respectively. The surface area of the bisupported catalyst was higher than that of the monosupported catalyst. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 2220–2226, 2006  相似文献

A crosslinkable terpolymer P(MMA‐BA‐HEMA) was prepared by atom transfer radical copolymerization of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate. The structure of the terpolymer was characterized by 1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography. The effects on the polymerization of ligand, initiator, solvent, CuCl2 added in the initial stage and reaction temperature were investigated. The optimal reaction conditions were ethyl 2‐bromopropionate as initiator, CuCl/PMDETA as catalyst, cyclohexanone as solvent, catalyst/ligand = 1:1.5, [M]0:[I]0 = 200:1 and temperature 70 °C. The reaction followed first‐order kinetics with respect to monomer concentration, indicating the best control over the polymerization process, a constant concentration of the propagating radical during the polymerization, efficient control over Mn of the polymer and low polydispersity (Mw/Mn < 1.3). © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The polymerization of isoprene was examined by using a novel binary catalyst system composed of neodymium chloride tributylphosphate (NdCl3·3TBP) and methylaluminoxane (MAO). The NdCl3·3TBP/MAO catalyst worked effectively in a low MAO level ([Al]/[Nd] = 50) to afford polymers with high molecular weight (Mn ~105), narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.4–1.6), and high cis‐1,4 stereoregularity (> 96%). The catalytic activity increased with an increasing [Al]/[Nd] ratio from 30 to 100 and polymerization temperature from 0 to 50°C, while the Mn of polymer decreased. The presence of free TBP resulted in low polymer yield. Polymerization solvent remarkably affected the polymerization behaviors; the polymerizations in aliphatic solvents (cyclohexane and hexane) gave polymer in higher yield than that in toluene. The Mw/Mn ratio of the producing polymer remained around 1.5 and the gel permeation chromatographic curve was always unimodal, indicating the presence of a single active site in the polymerization system. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of the high cis ?1,4‐polyisoprene by Ziegler‐Natta catalysis system was studied. The effect of Al‐Ti catalysts modified by ethers with different structures which are different electron donor reagent on polymerization of isoprene has been mainly investigated. By the measurement method of the monomer conversion, FTIR, and 1H NMR spectroscopy, the influence of, respectively, added diphenyl ether, anisole, dibutyl ether, or methyl tert ‐butyl methyl ether as a third active component on the heterogeneous TiCl4‐Al(i ‐Bu)3‐ether catalyst activity and microstructure of synthetic polyisoprene was analyzed. By the adding of diphenyl ether or dibutyl ether, the process of prefabricated heterogeneous catalyst is quickly and catalyst particle quantity is large. The polymerization conversion is high and the microstructure cis ?1,4 content of the resulting polymer can reach 92%. But Al(i ‐Bu)3 added anisole or methyl tert ‐butyl methyl ether hard to cooperate with TiCl4. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2016 , 133 , 44357.  相似文献

Poly(D ,L ‐lactide) (PDLLA) was synthesized by microwave‐irradiated ring‐opening polymerization catalyzed by stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2) under atmosphere. The effects of heating medium, monomer purity, catalyst concentration, microwave irradiation time, and vacuum level were discussed. Under the appropriate conditions such as carborundum (SiC) as heating‐medium, 0.15% catalyst, lactide with purity above 99.9%, 450 W microwave power, 30 min irradiation time, and atmosphere, PDLLA with a viscosity–average molecular weight (Mη) over 2.0 × 105 and a yield over 85% was obtained. The dismission of vacuum to ring‐opening polymerization of D ,L ‐lactide (DLLA) under microwave irradiation simplified the process greatly. The temperature under microwave irradiation and conventional heating was compared. The largely enhanced ring‐opening polymerization rate of DLLA under microwave irradiation was the coeffect of thermal effects and microwave effects. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymerization of methyl acrylate (MA) with 1‐octene (1‐Oct) was conducted in the presence of free radical initiator, 2,2′‐azobis(2‐methylpropionitrile) (AIBN) using heterogeneous Lewis acid, acidic alumina. The polymers obtained were transparent and highly viscous liquids. The copolymer composition calculated from 1H NMR showed alkene incorporation in the range of 10–61%. The monomodal nature of chromatographic curves corresponding to the molecular weight distribution in gel permeation chromatography (GPC) further confirmed that the polymers obtained are true copolymers. The number–average molecular weights (Mn) of the copolymers were in the range of 1.1 × 104–1.6 × 104 with polydispersity index of 1.75–2.29. The effects of varying the acidic alumina amount, time of polymerization, and monomer infeed on the incorporation of 1‐Oct in the polymer chain were studied. Increased 1‐Oct infeed led to its higher inclusion in the copolymer chain as elucidated by NMR. DEPT‐135 NMR spectral analysis was used to explicate the nature of arrangement of monomer sequences in the copolymer chain. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Low‐molecular‐weight (Mn) polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) homopolymers were successfully prepared using a perfluorodiacyl initiator, bis(perfluoro‐2‐n‐propoxypropionyl) peroxide, in supercritical carbon dioxide. Solid‐state 19F NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectral analyses show that perfluoroalkyl end‐groups are present in the resultant PTFEs. Thermogravimetric analysis suggests all polymers with various Mn have outstanding thermal stability. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements indicate that both melting and crystallization transitions of PTFE shift to lower temperatures when Mn decreases, because shorter polymer chains can move more easily at lower temperatures. Investigation of polymerization kinetics suggests that the rate law for the polymerization has kinetic orders of 0.5 and 1.0 with respect to initiator and monomer concentrations, indicating that termination occurs through coupling of propagating chains. Melt fusion crystallinity of as‐polymerized PTFE can be as high as 86%, and the polymerization rate does not seem to be obviously affected by the total interphase area of the polymer phase, implying polymerization mainly occurs in the carbon dioxide‐rich fluid phase; meanwhile, the low viscosity and high diffusivity of supercritical carbon dioxide mean that propagating chains have more opportunities to meet, thus yielding low‐Mn PTFEs. The bisupported Ziegler–Natta catalyst system SiO2/MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/di‐n‐butyl phthalate/triethylaluminum (TEA)/dimethoxy methyl cyclohexyl silane (DMMCHS) was prepared. TEA and di‐n‐butyl phthalate were used as a cocatalyst and an internal donor, respectively. DMMCHS was used as an external donor. The slurry polymerization of propylene was studied with the catalyst system in n‐heptane from 45 to 70°C. The effects of the TEA and H2 concentrations, temperature, and monomer pressure on the polymerization were investigated. The optimum productivity was obtained at [Al]/[DMMCHS]/[Ti] = 61.7:6.2:1 (mol/mol/mol). The highest activity of the catalyst was obtained at 60°C. Increasing the H2 concentration to 100 mL/L increased the productivity of the catalyst, but a further increase in H2 reduced the activity of the catalyst. Increasing the propylene pressure from 1 to 7 bar significantly increased the polymer yield. The isotacticity index (II) decreased with increasing TEA, but the H2 concentration, temperature, and monomer pressure did not have a significant effect on the II value. The viscosity‐average molecular weight decreased with increasing temperature and with the addition of H2. Three catalysts with different Mg/Si molar ratios were studied under the optimum conditions. The catalyst with a Mg/Si molar ratio of approximately 0.93 showed the highest activity. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 89: 1177–1181, 2003  相似文献

Ring‐opening copolymerization of maleic anhydride (MA) with propylene oxide (PO) was successfully carried out by using double‐metal cyanide (DMC) based on Zn3[Co(CN)6]2. The characteristics of the copolymerization are presented and discussed in this article. The structure of the copolymer was characterized with IR and 1H‐NMR. Number‐average molecular weight (Mn) and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the copolymer were measured by GPC. The results showed that DMC was a highly active catalyst for copolymerization of MA and PO, giving high yield at a low catalyst level of 80 mg/kg. The catalytic efficiency reached 10 kg polymer/g catalyst. Almost alternating copolymer was obtained when monomer charge molar ratio reached MA/PO ≥ 1. The copolymerization can be also carried out in many organic solvents; it was more favorable to be carried in polar solvents such as THF and acetone than in low‐polarity solvents such as diethyl ether and cyclohexane. The proper reaction temperature carried in the solvents was between 90 and 100 °C. The Mn was in the range of 2000–3000, and it was linear with the molar ratio of conversion monomer and DMC catalyst. The reactivity ratio of MA and PO in this reaction system was given by the extended Kelen–Tudos equation: η=[r1+(r2/α)]ξ?(r2/α) at some high monomer conversion. The value of reactivity ratio r1(MA) = 0 for MA cannot be polymerized itself by DMC catalyst, and r2(PO) = 0.286. The kinetics of the copolymerization was studied. The results indicated that the copolymerization rate is first order with respect to monomer concentration. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 93: 1788–1792, 2004  相似文献

Coordination polymerization of styrene with a ternary catalyst system composed of catalyst neodymium tricarboxylate (Nd), co‐catalyst Al(i‐Bu)3 (Al) and chlorinating agent trichloroethane (Cl) was carried out in cyclohexane. The effects of the catalyst system preparation procedure and of the reaction conditions on catalytic activity, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the resultant polymers were investigated. The catalytic activity depended mainly on the molar ratios of Al/Nd and of Cl/Nd and on the ageing temperature and polymerization temperature. High polymerization conversion and high catalytic activity could be obtained at high Al/Nd ratios and/or at high ageing temperature. The catalyst system exhibited high activity of 8.32 × 104 g polystyrene (mol Nd h)?1 at 50 °C. The molecular weight of the polymers obtained reached high weight‐average (Mw) values (Mw = 4.35 × 105 g mol?1) when Al/Nd = 8, but relatively low values (6000–11 000 g mol?1) at high Al/Nd ratios. Heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta catalyst of MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/diether was prepared. 2,2‐Diisobutyl‐1,3‐dimethoxy propane (DiBDMP), diether, was used as internal donor. Slurry polymerization of propylene was carried out using the catalyst in dry heptane while triethylaluminium (TEA) was used as co‐catalyst. The co‐catalyst effects, such as catalyst molar ratio, polymerization temperature, H2 pressure, external donor, triisobutylaluminium (TiBA) and monomer pressure, on the activity of the catalyst and isotacticity index (II) of the polymers obtained were studied. Rate of polymerization versus polymerization time is of a decay type with no acceleration period. There are an optimum Al/Ti molar ratio and temperature to obtain the highest activity of the catalyst. The maximum activity was obtained at 60 °C. Increasing the monomer pressure to 1 010 000 Pa linearly increased the activity of the catalyst. Addition of hydrogen to 151 500 Pa pressure increased activity of the catalyst from 2.25 to 5.45 kg polypropylene (PP) (g cat)?1 h?1 using 505 000 Pa pressure of monomer. The II decreased with increasing Al/Ti ratio, monomer pressure, hydrogen pressure and increased with increasing temperature to 60 °C, following with decrease as the temperature increases. Productivity of 11.55 kg (PP) (g cat)?1 h?1 was obtained at 1 010 000 Pa pressure of monomer and temperature of 60 °C. Addition of methyl p‐toluate (MPT) and dimethoxymethyl cyclohexyl silane (DMMCHS) as external donors decreased the activity of the catalyst sharply, while the II slightly increased. Some studies of the catalyst structure and morphology of the polymer were carried out using FTIR, X‐ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller techniques. A post‐polymerization method for metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has been developed to produce super‐acidic solid nanoparticles. Thus, the NH2MIL‐53(Al) MOF was functionalized with (3‐aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) from amine groups to yield active site anchored MOF nanoparticles. Then, sulfonated polymer/MOF hybrid nanoparticles were prepared by redox polymerization of 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐1‐propane sulfonic acid (MOF‐g‐PAMPS), initiated onto the surfaces of aminopropyl‐functionalized NH2MIL‐53(Al) nanoparticles. The synthesis and modification of NH2MIL‐53(Al) nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and TGA. FTIR and TGA results indicated that APTES modifier agent and AMPS monomer were successfully grafted onto the MOF nanoparticles. The grafting efficiency of PAMPS polymer onto the MOF nanoparticles was estimated from TGA thermograms to be 33%. Also, sulfonated polymer/MOF hybrid nanoparticles showed a proton conductivity as high as 4.9 × 10?5 S cm?1. Nitrogen adsorption of modified NH2MIL‐53(Al) showed also a decrease in pore volume. The morphology and crystalline structure of MOF nanoparticles before and after the modification processes were studied by SEM and XRD, respectively. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

In this article, we provide a concept of a two‐phase polymerization system consisting of immiscible monomer and room temperature ionic liquid (IL). The catalyst is immobilized in the IL phase where polymerization takes place. The produced polymer is extracted by the monomer, and the remaining IL phase is catalytically active for more polymerizations. Thus, common volatile organic solvents are no longer needed. Ring‐opening polymerization of cyclohexene oxide (CHO) in 1‐n‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate IL ([bmim][BF4]) using scandium triflate [Sc(OTf)3] catalyst serves as a realistic example of such concept. The yield of polyCHO in [bmim][BF4] is higher than that in bulk. IL containing Sc(OTf)3 can be used for at least three times. A circulatory polymerization process is carried out with added catalyst to keep a relatively high yield in following circulation processes. The assignments of proton signals of polyCHO in 1H NMR are discussed in detail. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献
