The effect of the fruiting body and mycelium of Volvariella volvacea (straw mushroom) on the concentrations of plasma lipids, liver cholesterol, fecal neutral sterol and bile acid excretions was investigated in male Golden Syrian hamsters. The hamsters were fed a purified hypercholesterolemic diet (0.1% cholesterol, 10% fat) for 4 wk to elevate plasma lipid concentrations. Twelve hamsters with elevated plasma total cholesterol were randomly assigned to each treatment group: control (5% cellulose), mushroom fruiting body (5%) and mushroom mycelium (5%). After 4 wk of mushroom diet consumption, the plasma total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and combined VLDL + LDL cholesterol concentrations (mmol/L) were significantly lower than control in the group fed the fruiting body-diet (40, 38 and 43%, respectively) (P < 0.05). The liver cholesterol levels were significantly lower in both the mushroom fruiting body- and the mycelium-fed groups (28 and 21% in terms of concentration; 39 and 30% in terms of total content, respectively) (P < 0.05) than that in the control group. Fecal neutral sterol excretion in the mushroom fruiting body- and mycelium-fed groups was significantly higher (81 and 74%, respectively) (P < 0.05) than that in the control group. Although no significant differences (P > 0.05) in the excretion of fecal bile acids were observed among groups fed the mushroom diets and the control diet, the mushroom fruiting body diet-fed hamsters apparently had less bacterial degradation of cholic acid as indicated by a significantly greater proportion (P < 0.05) of fecal cholic acid than in controls. They also had a significantly lower proportion of fecal deoxycholic acid (P < 0.05). This study suggests that the fruiting body of the straw mushroom lowers elevated plasma cholesterol in hypercholesterolemic hamsters, whereas the mycelium does not.  相似文献

The effect of 5% of dried oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) in the diet on the dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced colon carcinogenesis was studied in male Wistar rats. DMH in a dose of 20 mg/kg of body weight was applied to animals once a week during a period of 12 weeks. Mushroom diet was applied either after treatment with DMH for another 21 weeks or during the whole experiment. Mushroom diet reduced significantly the incidence of lymphoid hyperplasia foci when mushroom was supplemented during the whole experiment. Tumour lesions could be characterized either as carcinoma in situ, or as infiltrating adenocarcinoma. Mushroom diet did not affect significantly the incidence of tumours. Nevertheless, a reduction in total number of tumours was observed in both groups of animals fed mushroom diet. A significant reduction of the number of tumour foci of the type carcinoma in situ was observed in animals fed the oyster mushroom during the whole experiment. Also these animals had the significantly lower number of aberrant crypt foci. Mushroom diet reduced the ornithine decarboxylase activity in the colon and in the liver when oyster mushroom diet was administered during the whole experiment.  相似文献

The hypocholesterolemic properties of THD-341, N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-delta8-dihydroabietamide, were studied in rats. THD-341 reduced serum cholesterol levels in cholesterol-cholate-fed rats at a concentration of less than 0.001% in the diet or an oral dose of less than 3 mg/kg, once a day. When compared in terms of the 50% inhibitory dose for serum cholesterol elevation (ID 50%, % in diet), THD-341 (0.0008%) was comparable to D-thyroxine (0.0005%), more potent than estradiol (0.003%), and far more potent than clofibrate (0.2%), beta-sitosterol (0.8%), cholestyramine (2%), or nicotinic acid (3%). A daily intravenous injection of THD-341 was also effective (ID 50%: 7 mg/kg). THD-341 reduced serum and liver cholesterol in rats made hypercholesterolemic by 0.3% dietary thiouracil or 0.25% dietary cholate. Liver cholesteriol was more profoundly affected than the serum cholesterol. In normal rats, cholesterol was reduced in liver but not in serum. Its mechanism of action is unknown but the results suggest that THD-341 inhibits cholesterol absorption or re-absorption.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to establish whether plasma cholesterol and triacylglycerol(s) in copper deficiency can be increased or decreased by hepatic iron levels. Weanling male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six dietary groups based on levels of dietary copper and iron. They were fed from weaning their respective diets for 6 wk. Forty percent of the copper-deficient rats fed a 15.7 mumol Fe/g diet died; 22% of those fed a diet containing 8.6 mumol Fe/g died; and there were no deaths in the 3.4 mumol Fe/g diet group. Rats belonging to the group fed the high-iron diet also exhibited the highest levels of liver iron, liver glutathione, and plasma cholesterol and triacylglycerol(s) compared with those fed either the adequate or low levels of dietary iron. There was a direct correlation (r = 0.82 and 0.77, respectively) between levels of cholesterol and triacylglycerol(s) in plasma and hepatic iron concentrations. These results provide strong evidence that points to a major involvement of iron in the lipemia of copper deficiency. These data may be important to those individuals who consume large quantities of fortified iron foods and supplement with iron but whose intake of copper is suboptimal.  相似文献

Piperonyl butoxide, alpha-[2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethoxy]-4,5-methylenedioxy-2-propyltol uene, is a pesticide synergist. ICR mice of both sexes were maintained on diet containing 0, 0.1, 0.3 or 0.9% of piperonyl butoxide for 20 days. At the end of the experimental period, they were necropsied. Selected organs were weighed and serum chemistries were analyzed. In male and female mice of the 0.9% group, body weight, kidney and spleen weight were depressed in comparison to those of control group. Liver weight of the 0.3 and 0.9% group of both sexes were significantly higher than those of control group. Mice of the 0.9% group of both sexes had increased serum levels of cholesterol, total protein, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase. Histological examination of livers from mice of the 0.9% group by light microscopy showed enlarged hepatocytes, anisonucleosis and single cell necrosis. The results indicated that subacute toxicity of piperonyl butoxide in ICR mice was directed primarily at liver.  相似文献

Lipid response to dietary fat is highly variable among individuals of a population. The aim of this study was to establish whether being overweight is one of the factors that determines this response. Forty-one non-obese healthy men were divided into two groups according to body mass index as follows: controls, <25 kg/m2; overweight, >25 kg/m2 but <30 kg/m2. After consuming a saturated fat-rich diet (SAT diet: 38% fat, 20% saturated) for 4 wk, subjects were switched to a low fat diet [National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP)-I diet: 28% fat, 10% saturated] for 4 wk and then to a monounsaturated fat-rich diet (MUFA diet: 38% fat, 22% monounsaturated) for 4 wk. Data were analyzed by Student's t test and two-way ANOVA for repeated measures. After consuming the NCEP-I diet, the overweight subjects had a smaller decrease relative to the SAT diet period in plasma total cholesterol [-0.30 vs. -0.67 mmol/L (-7 vs. -16%), P < 0.02] and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol concentrations [-0.24 vs. -0.55 mmol/L (-9 vs. -21%), P < 0.04] than controls. However, in the overweight subjects, the MUFA diet produced a greater decrease in plasma triglycerides than in the controls relative to the SAT diet period [-0.36 vs. -0.03 mmol/L (-26 vs. -4%), P < 0.006] and to the NCEP-I diet period [-0.29 vs. 0. 01 mmol/L (-22 vs. 1%), P < 0.01). Plasma cholesterol concentrations changed to a lesser extent, and triglyceride concentration to a greater extent, in overweight but non-obese young men than in those of normal weight in response to changes in dietary fat composition. Our data suggest that in the diet treatment of obese hyperlipemic subjects, it is more important for them to lose weight than to change the fat composition of their diets.  相似文献

The effects of treatment with low-dose 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor pravastatin on the changes of chemical composition and in vitro oxidative susceptibility of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were studied in 20 type Ila hyperlipidemic patients with a plasma total cholesterol level > 240 mg/dL at the end of a diet control period for 3 months using the American Heart Association recommended step I diet. Treatment with pravastatin in a dose of 5 mg twice daily for 4 weeks resulted in lowering plasma total and LDL cholesterol levels by 17.0% and 22.9%, respectively. There was no further decline in plasma lipid thereafter. Chemical composition analysis showed that LDL particles did not contain significantly less cholesterol and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) until the end of 8 weeks (130.6 +/- 17.8 vs. 106.6 +/- 37.1 mg/mg protein, P < 0.05 and 0.16 +/- 0.06 vs. 0.08 +/- 0.02 nmol/mg protein, P < 0.005, respectively). Vitamin E, phospholipid, and triglyceride contents remained at the same levels throughout the study. In terms of oxidative kinetics, lag time and time to maximal diene concentration were not prolonged during the treatment period for 12 weeks, while total diene concentration and reaction rate were not significantly reduced until 8 weeks of treatment. Plasma enzyme activity of glutathione reductase and peroxidase, as well as the whole blood level of reduced and oxidized glutathione, remained similar during the study. In conclusion, pravastatin, at the low dose of 5 mg twice daily, produced a significant decline in plasma lipid levels to a steady-state range by 4 weeks; however, 8-weeks treatment is necessary to reduce the cholesterol and TBARS content, as well as to attenuate the oxidative susceptibility of LDL. The possible modulatory effect of browned yam flour, a local dietary staple in south western Nigeria, on the toxicity of 7,12-dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA), 3-methylcholanthrene (3-MC), carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) and bromobenzene (BrB) in rats was investigated. Feeding rats with 25% browned yam flour 2 wk before treatment with 65 mg/kg DMBA (single dose) and 5 mg/kg 3-MC and continued for 3 wk significantly decreased the reduction in final body weight or weight gain and organ weights caused by the two compounds. Similarly, the diet decreased the reduction in body weight or weight gain and the increase in relative liver weight mediated by oral treatment with 0.5 ml CCl4/kg and 2.5 mmol BrB/kg body weight. Incorporation of 25% browned yam flour into rat diet significantly reduced the DMBA-mediated decrease in haemoglobin content, packed cell volume, red blood cell count and white blood cell count by 7, 5, 20 and 10%, respectively; while the diet reduced the 3-MC-mediated decrease in these parameters by 15, 28, 9 and 17%, respectively. The same diet elicited 23, 45, 13 and 33% decreases in CCl4 mediated reduction in these parameters and 23, 18, 16 and 29% in the case of BrB. Browned yam flour diet caused 10, 14 (P < 0.001) and 4% (P < 0.05) reductions in the DMBA-mediated increase in serum aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and serum alkaline phosphatase, respectively; and 32, 31 (P < 0.05) and 13% (P < 0.001) in the case of the 3-MC-mediated increase. Also, the diet reduced CCl4-mediated increase in the activities of these by 40, 34 and 31%, respectively and by 23, 30 and 29% following BrB treatment. These results suggest that browned yam flour diet could possibly be a modulator of chemically induced toxicity.  相似文献

Rats (8 wk of age) fed a conventional diet were shifted to diets containing 10% Oenothera biennis Linn oil (OBLO, linoleic acid + gamma-linolenic acid) from a wild plant, evening primrose oil (EPO, linoleic acid + gamma-linolenic acid) from a cultivated plant, bio-gamma-linolenic acid oil from mold (BIO, palmitic acid + oleic acid + linoleic acid + gamma-linolenic acid), safflower oil (linoleic acid), palm oil (PLO, palmitic acid + oleic acid + linoleic acid), or soybean oil (linoleic acid + alpha-linolenic acid) with 0.5% cholesterol for 13 wk. Though there were no significant differences in the food intake among the groups, the body weight gain of the OBLO group was significantly lower than that of the other groups except for the BIO and PLO groups, and that of the EPO and SBO groups were the highest among the groups. The liver weight of the OBLO group was significantly lower than that of other groups, and that of the PLO group was the highest among the groups. The serum total cholesterol and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) + intermediate density lipoprotein (IDL) + low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentrations of the OBLO and EPO groups were consistently lower than those in the other groups. However, those of the BIO group were higher than those in the OBLO and EPO groups. The liver cholesterol concentration of the PLO group was the highest among all groups except for the EPO group. The fecal neutral sterol and bile acid extraction of the BIO group tended to increase compared to the other groups. The results of this study demonstrate that OBLO and EPO inhibit the increasing of serum total cholesterol and VLDL + IDL + LDL-cholesterol concentrations in the presence of excess cholesterol in the diet compared with the other dietary oils.  相似文献

We studied the effect of nutritional rehabilitation with a 6, 18 or 50% casein diet in undernourished rats on histidase (Hal) expression. Undernutrition was induced by feeding rats a 0.5% casein diet for 5 wk. Over this period, growth, serum total proteins and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) levels were significantly lower than those of rats that freely consumed an 18% casein diet. During this period, undernutrition also significantly reduced Hal activity and Hal-mRNA concentration. Nutritional rehabilitation for 21 d with a 6% casein diet did not change any of these variables. Nutritional rehabilitation with an 18 or 50% casein diet for 1 d initiated the restoration of Hal activity and mRNA concentration. After 10 d of consuming 18 or 50% casein diets, Hal activity was 5- and 14-fold, and mRNA concentration was 8.5- and 23-fold higher, respectively, than in the protein-undernourished group (PU). During this period, body weight, total serum proteins and IGF-I levels were also significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those of the PU group. At the end of 21 d of rehabilitation with an 18 or 50% casein diet, Hal activity was 14- and 31-fold higher and Hal mRNA concentration was 10- and 24-fold higher, respectively, than in the PU group. In conclusion, our data showed that rehabilitation of undernourished rats with a 6% casein diet was not sufficient to re-establish growth indicators, Hal activity or gene expression, and that nutritional rehabilitation with an 18 or 50% casein diet effectively re-established body weight , biochemical variables and the capacity of histidase gene expression to eliminate the excess of protein.  相似文献

This study is concerned with the effect of two carbohydrates, cane-sugar and corn starch, at four different levels in the presence of two dietary fats, on the serum and the tissue lipids (cholesterol, phospholipid and fatty acid patterns). Keeping the dietary fats (coconut safflower seed oil) at 20% level, diets containing (a) startch (54%) + cane sugar (0%), (b) starch (44%) + cane sugar 10%), (c) starch (10%) + cane sugar (44%) and (d) only cane sugar (54%) were administered to rats for 8 weeks. The lipid levels were determined at the end of the feeding period. The beneficial effect of the unsaturated fat in lowering the serum cholesterol level is nullified by an excess of cane sugar in the diet. In liver, there is an increase of 40-50% of cholesterol, as the cane sugar level in the diet is raised, irrespective of the type of dietary fat. The fatty acid pattern of the serum and tissue lipids is influenced by dietary fats as well as carbohydrates.  相似文献

A daily dose of 1.5 to 2.0 gm of clofibrate lowers serum triglyceride (TG) levels in patients with normal renal function but causes muscle toxicity and elevated creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels in patients with long-term renal failure. Plasma clofibrate disappearance is prolonged as much as seven times normal in severely uremic patients. A marked reduction in the standard 14 gm/wk clofibrate dose to a total dose of 1.0 to 1.5 gm/wk effectively lowered serum TG levels (--28%, p less than 0.02) in hypertriglyceridemic hemodialysis patients without toxicity. The serum clofibrate level at this dose was comparable to that in hypertriglyceridemic nonuremic patients receiving 14 gm/wk of clofibrate. The dose of clofibrate administered to hemodialysis patients can be adjusted to avoid toxicity and provide the desired therapeutic effect by monitoring serum CPK and TG levels.  相似文献

Male adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups in a 2 x 2 factorial design and were fed diets containing cooked-stored polished rice (CSPR), with and without 0.7 g/100 g of Nebacitin [bacitracinneomycin sulfate (2:1, wt/wt)] and with and without 1 g cholesterol/100 g diet. The CSPR diet contained 1.87 g resistant starch/100 g. After 4 wk, arterial blood and liver were collected. Feces were collected during the last 7 d. Rats fed the diet with Nebacitin and cholesterol had higher serum total cholesterol than the rats fed diets without cholesterol. Serum triglyceride concentration was greater in rats fed Nebacitin, regardless of dietary cholesterol concentration. Rats fed the diet with Nebacitin and cholesterol had higher serum LDL cholesterol concentration and liver total cholesterol concentration than rats fed the other three diets. Rats fed the CSPR diet with Nebacitin both with and without cholesterol had a higher fecal resistant starch concentration and excretion and lower serum short-chain fatty acid concentration than rats fed the diets without Nabacitin. Hepatic cholesterol concentration was greater in rats fed Nebacitin only when the diet also contained cholesterol. Therefore, dietary Nebacitin alters lipid metabolism in rats, and some effects are most pronounced in those also fed cholesterol.  相似文献

We examined the cross-sectional relation of dietary vitamin C intake to serum lipids in 1,825 preadolescent black and white girls. Dietary vitamin C intake exclusive of supplement use, determined by 3-day diet record, appeared unrelated to total serum cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Because other investigators have demonstrated an inverse association between vitamin C and total serum cholesterol in individuals with elevated total serum cholesterol levels, we analyzed the subgroup of 285 girls (142 blacks and 143 whites) with total serum cholesterol levels > or = 200 mg per dl. Multivariate analyses of this subgroup, which adjusted for saturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, monounsaturated fat, cholesterol, fiber, and energy intake and for body mass index, demonstrated negative association between vitamin C intake and total serum cholesterol. In girls with total serum cholesterol levels > or = 200 mg per dl, each 100 mg per day increase in dietary vitamin C intake (ranges 13-373 and 14-242 mg per day for blacks and whites, respectively) was associated with a total serum cholesterol decrease of 4 mg per dl (95% confidence limits = -10.34, 2.77) in blacks and 13 mg per dl (95% confidence limits = -22.99, -2.68) in whites. If the observed association is causal and generalizable, our results suggest that increased vitamin C intake could play an important role in the cholesterol homeostasis of females with elevated total cholesterol levels.  相似文献

The influence of dietary (n-3) compared with (n-6) polyunsatured fatty acids (PUFA) on the lipid composition and metabolism of adipocytes was evaluated in rats over a period of 1 week. Isocaloric diets comprised 16.3 g/100 g protein, 53.8 g/100 g carbohydrate and 21.4 g/100 g lipids, the latter containing either (n-3) PUFA (32.4 mol/100 mol) or (n-6) PUFA (37.8 mol/100 mol) but having identical contents of saturated, monounsaturated and total unsaturated fatty acids and identical polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acid ratios and double bond indexes. Despite comparable food intake, significantly smaller body weight increments and adipocyte size were observed in rats of the (n-3) diet group after feeding for 1 wk. Rats fed the (n-3) diet also had significantly lower concentrations of serum triglycerides, cholesterol and insulin compared with those fed the (n-6) diet, although levels of serum glucose and free fatty acids did not differ in the two dietary groups. In the (n-6) diet group, the (n-6) and (n-3) PUFA contents of plasma triglycerides, free fatty acids and phospholipids were 30-60% higher and 60-80% lower, respectively, than in the (n-3) diet group, whereas adipocyte plasma membrane phospholipids showed a significantly higher unsaturated to saturated fatty acid ratio and greater fluidity. Glycerol release in response to noradrenaline was significantly higher in the adipocytes of rats fed the (n-3) diet, whereas the antilipolytic effect of insulin generally did not differ in the two groups. Finally, insulin stimulated the transport of glucose and its incorporation into fatty acids to a lesser extent in adipocytes of (n-3) diet fed rats compared with (n-6) diet fed rats. This reduction in the metabolic effects of insulin in rats fed a (n-3) diet for 1 wk could be related to smaller numbers and a lower binding capacity of the insulin receptors on adipocytes and/or to a lesser degree of phosphorylation of the 95 kDa beta subunit of the receptor. In conclusion, dietary intake for 1 wk of (n-3) rather than (n-6) PUFA is sufficient to induce significant differences in the lipid composition and metabolic responses to insulin of rat adipocytes.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Obesity is an important risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes is associated with improved glycemic control and reduced cardiovascular disease risk factors, but weight loss is notably difficult to achieve and sustain with caloric restriction and exercise. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of treatment with orlistat, a pancreatic lipase inhibitor, on weight loss, glycemic control, and serum lipid levels in obese patients with type 2 diabetes on sulfonylurea medications. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: In a multicenter 57-week randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study, 120 mg orlistat or placebo was administered orally three times a day with a mildly hypocaloric diet to 391 obese men and women with type 2 diabetes who were aged > 18 years, had a BMI of 28-40 kg/m2, and were clinically stable on oral sulfonylureas. Changes in body weight, glycemic control, lipid levels, and drug tolerability were measured. RESULTS: After 1 year of treatment, the orlistat group lost 6.2 +/- 0.45% (mean +/- SEM) of initial body weight vs. 4.3 +/- 0.49% in the placebo group (P < 0.001). Twice as many patients receiving orlistat (49 vs. 23%) lost > or = 5% of initial body weight (P < 0.001). Orlistat treatment plus diet compared with placebo plus diet was associated with significant improvement in glycemic control, as reflected in decreases in HbA1c (P < 0.001) and fasting plasma glucose (P < 0.001) and in dosage reductions of oral sulfonylurea medication (P < 0.01). Orlistat therapy also resulted in significantly greater improvements than placebo in several lipid parameters, namely, greater reductions in total cholesterol, (P < 0.001), LDL cholesterol (P < 0.001), triglycerides (P < 0.05), apolipoprotein B (P < 0.001), and the LDL-to-HDL cholesterol ratio (P < 0.001). Mild to moderate and transient gastrointestinal events were reported with orlistat therapy, although their association with study withdrawal was low. Fat-soluble vitamin levels generally remained within the reference range, and vitamin supplementation was required in only a few patients. CONCLUSIONS: Orlistat is an effective treatment modality in obese patients with type 2 diabetes with respect to clinically meaningful weight loss and maintenance of weight loss, improved glycemic control, and improved lipid profile.  相似文献

The effects are described of adding either the dried fruiting bodies of the oyster fungus Pleurotus ostreatus, or an ethanolic extract of it, to the diet of normal Wistar male rats and a strain with hereditary hypercholesterolaemia. Addition of the dry oyster fungus to the diet significantly increased, by more than two-fold, the triacylglycerol (TAG) level in the plasma of both groups of rats compared with their respective controls. In contrast, the ethanolic extract did not significantly change TAG levels. Values for total cholesterol and its high- and low-density lipoprotein fractions in the plasma, as well as the calculated atherogenic index, did not show any significant change. Levels of liver cholesterol were significantly lowered by the dried oyster fungus in both hypercholesterolaemic and normal groups of rats, and by the ethanolic extract in normal rats. A significantly increased phospholipid-to-cholesterol ratio in the aortas of both groups of rats, after the administration of either dried oyster fungus or the ethanolic extract of it, suggests a favourable anti-atherogenic effect for both.  相似文献

The study purpose was to compare the effect of exercise training on serum lipid and apolipoprotein concentrations and the activities of intravascular enzymes related to lipid transport in previously untrained eumenorrheic, premenopausal (PRM) women (n = 21; mean age, 36 +/- 3 years) and estrogen-free postmenopausal (POM) women (n = 16; mean age, 68 +/- 8 years). Subjects trained at a progressive intensity and duration (50% to 75% maximal O2 consumption [VO2max], 200 to 300 kcal/session) 4 d/wk for 12 weeks. Before and after training, VO2max, body weight, relative body fat, and fasting blood samples were obtained following 2 weeks on a standardized diet designed to maintain body weight and during the early follicular stage for the PRM group. Blood samples were analyzed for serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), the cholesterol content of the HDL3 subfraction, apolipoprotein (apo)A-I and apoB, lipoprotein(a), and the activity of lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT). Total and hepatic triglyceride lipase activity (HTGLA) were determined from plasma samples obtained after heparin administration. The cholesterol content of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and HDL2 subfractions and endothelial-bound lipoprotein lipase activity (LPLA) were calculated. A two (group) x two (time) multivariate ANOVA (MANOVA), with repeated measures for time indicated that the exercise-induced changes in physiological measurements, serum lipid or apolipoprotein concentrations, or enzyme activities did not differ between groups. Serum concentrations of TC, LDL-C, and HDL3 cholesterol, TG, and apo A-I and apoB were higher in POM women compared with the PRM group (P < .05 for all). For the combined groups, body weight and relative body fat did not change with training, but VO2max increased an average of 18.5% (P < .05). LPLA, HTGLA, and LCAT activity were unaltered with exercise training. Except for a small but significant decrease in HDL-C (-5.5%) and an elevation in apoB (4.3%; P < .05 for both), the concentrations of serum lipids and apolipoproteins did not change over the training period. We conclude that in previously untrained women, menopausal status does not influence the exercise training response of serum lipids or apolipoproteins or activities of intravascular enzymes related to lipid transport.  相似文献

Thirty-three Yorkshire barrows (92 kg), fed a high cholesterol diet for 14 d had mean concentrations of serum cholesterol of 294.6 +/- 7.8 mg/dl. Starting on d 15 and for an additional 15 d, crystalline cholesterol was removed from the diet and pigs were assigned to one of four treatments: including two levels of calcium (0.7% and 1.4%) with and without added viable Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 43121 (2.5 x 10(11) cells per feeding). Serum cholesterol levels decreased, as expected, for all groups. However, the declines were initiated sooner for the groups receiving L. acidophilus. and those receiving the high level of calcium than for the respective control groups. When averaged over days, pigs fed L. acidophilus had 11.8% lower total cholesterol than pigs fed a diet without L. acidophilus. Similarly, pigs fed 1.4% calcium had a significantly lower total cholesterol than pigs fed 0.7% calcium. The effects were greater on low density lipoprotein cholesterol than on high density lipoprotein cholesterol. In addition, during the overall 15-d experimental period, serum bile acids were reduced 23.9% by dietary L. acidophilus and by 21.4% by 1.4% dietary calcium compared with those of their controls. Total bile acid concentration was positively correlated with total cholesterol concentration for pigs fed L. acidophilus or 1.4% calcium. These data suggest that both L. acidophilus and calcium can enhance the reduction of serum cholesterol in pigs that had been fed a high cholesterol diet, probably through alteration in the enterohepatic circulation of bile acids.  相似文献

Rats with alloxan-induced diabetes developed severe atherosclerotic lesions when they were maintained on a 0.25% cholesterol diet for one year. The atheromatous changes developed at the aortic arch, appeared as early as 3 months after the start of the experiment, and increased thereafter. The diabetic rats also developed atherosclerosis when they were fed standard rat chow, but the area of the atheromatous lesion was about one tenth of that in rats fed the high-cholesterol diet. Normal rats did not develop atherosclerosis even when fed the high-cholesterol diet for one year. The alloxan diabetic rats showed no increase in body weight, but developed serum glucose levels as high as 600-800 mg/dl as well as high serum cholesterol levels and lower serum HDL-cholesterol levels. The development of atherosclerosis in these rats was significantly related to an increase in the serum cholesterol/phospholipid ratio, the atherogenic index (TC-HDLC/HDLC), and the serum total cholesterol level, but was not related to the serum glucose, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, or lipid peroxide levels. These relationships were found as early as B-16 weeks after the start of the experiment. These data suggest that the serum cholesterol/phospholipid ratio, the atherogenic index, and the total cholesterol level are important risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis in rats with alloxan diabetes.  相似文献
