Recently the awareness of the importance of replicating studies has been growing in the empirical software engineering community. The results of any one study cannot simply be extrapolated to all environments because there are many uncontrollable sources of variation between different environments. In our work, we have reasoned that the availability of laboratory packages for experiments can encourage better replications and complementary studies. However, even with effectively specified laboratory packages, transfer of experimental know-how can still be difficult. In this paper, we discuss the collaboration structures we have been using in the Readers’ Project, a bilateral project supported by the Brazilian and American national science agencies that is investigating replications and transfer of experimental know-how issues. In particular, we discuss how these structures map to the Nonaka–Takeuchi knowledge sharing model, a well-known paradigm used in the knowledge management literature. We describe an instantiation of the Nonaka–Takeuchi Model for software engineering experimentation, establishing a framework for discussing knowledge sharing issues related to experimental software engineering. We use two replications to illustrate some of the knowledge sharing issues we have faced and discuss the mechanisms we are using to tackle those issues in Readers’ Project. 相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the usability of an antibiotics therapy adviser, with a broad, complex spectrum of functions which we have developed within the ICONS project. We present the architecture of the system, case-based reasoning methods used, steps and results of medical evaluations, which are concerning the quality of the recommended therapies, the user friendliness of the system and the interpretation of laboratory results. This paper will first outline the tasks assigned to IMIS as laid down in several federal laws of the Federal Republic of Germany with an eye towards their realization, and then we discuss the technical aspects of reengineering IMIS. The requirements for the new version of IMIS are indicated, and we discuss how they should be implemented. It is surprising that before putting the new system into operation it was advantageous to introduce a prototyping phase.We will discuss the requirements leading us to the construction of a rather complex prototype. This prototype was operational and was subsequently evaluated, resulting in very specific recommendations for system construction which could not have been obtained from conceptual considerations only. We point out that these experiments were a crucial means of arriving at our recommendations. Hence we demonstrate a practical approach to system construction for rather large systems integrating networking, client/server architectures and carefully selected software components. 相似文献

We give a survey on the application of the chemical fragmentation concept in computer modelling of extended covalent systems. It will be stressed that information on molecular topology, as well as location and composition of the reaction centre allows the construction of a reasonable initial guess for the wave function and thus facilitates the solution of the Schr?dinger equation. For systems, where the chemical changes are localised to a few atoms, while others play the role of essentially electrostatic perturbation, a partition into active site and environment is possible providing a background to hybrid quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) methods. Full molecular orbital treatment of large covalent systems at the minimal basis, semiempirical level becomes possible in the frame of the fragment self-consistent field (FSCF) method which was developed in the past two decades in our laboratory. As an application, we discuss the hydride shift reaction step in xylose isomerase catalysis. 相似文献
