A new integrated power generation system driven by the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is proposed to improve the conversion efficiency of conventional energy by using a Kalina cycle to recover the waste heat of exhaust from the SOFC-GT. The system using methane as main fuel consists an internal reforming SOFC, an after-burner, a gas turbine, preheaters, compressors and a Kalina cycle. The proposed system is simulated based on the developed mathematical models, and the overall system performance has been evaluated by the first and second law of thermodynamics. Exergy analysis is conducted to indicate the thermodynamic losses in each components. A parametric analysis is also carried out to examine the effects of some key thermodynamic parameters on the system performance. Results indicate that as compressor pressure ratio increases, SOFC electrical efficiency increases and there is an optimal compressor pressure ratio to reach the maximum overall electrical efficiency and exergy efficiency. It is also found that SOFC electrical efficiency, overall electrical efficiency and exergy efficiency can be improved by increasing air flow rate. Also, the largest exergy destruction occurs in the SOFC followed by the after-burner, the waste heat boiler, the gas turbine. The compressor pressure ratio and air flow rate have significant effects on the exergy destruction in some main components of system.  相似文献

A total energy system (TES) incorporating a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and an exhaust gas driven absorption chiller (AC) is presented to provide power, cooling and/or heating simultaneously. The purpose for using the absorption chiller is to recover the exhaust heat from the SOFC exhaust gas for enhancing the energy utilization efficiency of the TES. A steady-state mathematical model is developed to simulate the effects of different operating conditions of SOFC, such as the fuel utilization factor and average current density, on the performance of the TES by using the MATLAB softpackage. Parametric analysis shows that both electrical efficiency and total efficiency of the TES have maximum values with variation of the fuel utilization factor; while the cooling efficiency increases, the electrical efficiency and total efficiency decrease with increase in the current density of SOFC. The simulated results could provide useful knowledge for the design and optimization of the proposed total energy system.  相似文献

A parametric study is conducted on a hybrid SOFC-GT cycle as part of a national program aiming to improve the efficiency of the actual gas turbine power plants and to better undertake the future investigations. The proposed power plant is mainly constituted by a Gas Turbine cycle, a SOFC system, and an ammonia water absorption refrigerating system. An external pre-reformer is installed before the SOFC. Heat recovery systems are adopted to valorize the waste heat at the SOFC and GT exhausts. The gas from the SOFC exhaust is also used as additional supply for the combustion chamber. An extraction is performed on the gas Turbine in order to feed the SOFC cycle by thermal heat flux at medium pressure. The equations governing the electrochemical processes, the energy and the exergy balances of the power plant components are established. Numerical simulation using EES software is performed. The influences of key operating parameters, such as humidity, pre-reforming fraction, extraction fraction from the Gas Turbine and fuel utilization on the performances of the SOFC-GT hybrid system are analyzed. Obtained results show that the integration of the SOFC enhances significantly the hybrid overall cycle efficiency. The increase of the ambient temperature and humidity reduces the system efficiencies. The utilization factor has a negative effect on the SOFC temperature and voltage. That leads to a decrease in the power plant performances. While the pre-reforming fraction, has a positive effect on the indicated parameters.  相似文献

Multi-energy complementary distributed energy system integrated with renewable energy is at the forefront of energy sustainable development and is an important way to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction. A comparative analysis of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)-micro gas turbine (MGT)-combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) systems coupled with two solar methane steam reforming processes is presented in terms of energy, exergy, environmental and economic performances in this paper. The first is to couple with the traditional solar methane steam reforming process. Then the produced hydrogen-rich syngas is directly sent into the SOFC anode to produce electricity. The second is to couple with the medium-temperature solar methane membrane separation and reforming process. The produced pure hydrogen enters the SOFC anode to generate electricity, and the remaining small amount of fuel gas enters the afterburner to increase the exhaust gas enthalpy. Both systems transfer the low-grade solar energy to high-grade hydrogen, and then orderly release energy in the systems. The research results show that the solar thermochemical efficiency, energy efficiency and exergy efficiency of the second system reach 52.20%, 77.97% and 57.29%, respectively, 19.05%, 7.51% and 3.63% higher than those of the first system, respectively. Exergy analysis results indicate that both the solar heat collection process and the SOFC electrochemical process have larger exergy destruction. The levelized cost of products of the first system is about 0.0735$/h that is lower than that of the second system. And these two new systems have less environmental impact, with specific CO2 emissions of 236.98 g/kWh and 249.89 g/kWh, respectively.  相似文献

A micro-combined cooling heating and power (CCHP) system integrated with geothermal-assisted methanol reforming and incorporating a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stack is presented. The novel CCHP system consists of a geothermal-based methanol steam reforming subsystem, PEMFC, micro gas turbine and lithium bromide (LiBr) absorption chiller. Geothermal energy is used as a heat source to drive methanol steam reforming to produce hydrogen. The unreacted methanol and hydrogen are efficiently utilized via the gas turbine and PEMFC to generate electricity, respectively. For thermodynamic and economic analysis, the effects of the thermodynamic parameters (geothermal temperature and molar ratio of water to methanol) and economic factors (such as methanol price, hydrogen price and service life) on the proposed system performance are investigated. The results indicate that the ExUF (exergy utilization factor the exergy utilization factor), TPES (trigeneration primary energy saving) and energy efficiency of the novel system can be reached at 8.8%, 47.24% and 66.3%, respectively; the levelized cost of energy is 0.0422 $/kWh, and the annual total cost saving ratio can be reached at 20.9%, compared with the conventional system. The novel system achieves thermodynamic and economic potential, and provides an alternative and promising way for efficiently utilizing abundant geothermal energy and methanol resources.  相似文献

Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is a promising technology for electricity generation. Sulfur-free syngas from a gas-cleaning unit serves as fuel for SOFC in integrated gasification fuel cell (IGFC) power plants. It converts the chemical energy of fuel gas directly into electric energy, thus high efficiencies can be achieved. The outputs from SOFC can be utilized by heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), which drives the steam turbine for electricity production. The SOFC stack model was developed using the process flow sheet simulator Aspen Plus, which is of the equilibrium type. Various ranges of syngas properties gathered from different literature were used for the simulation. The results indicate a trade-off efficiency and power with respect to a variety of SOFC inputs. The HRSG located after SOFC was included in the current simulation study with various operating parameters. This paper describes IGFC power plants, particularly the optimization of HRSG to improve the efficiency of the heat recovery from the SOFC exhaust gas and to maximize the power production in the steam cycle in the IGFC system. HRSG output from different pressure levels varies depending on the SOFC output. The steam turbine efficiency was calculated for measuring the total power plant output. The aim of this paper is to provide a simulation model for the optimal selection of the operative parameters of HRSG and SOFC for the IGFC system by comparing it with other models. The simulation model should be flexible enough for use in future development and capable of predicting system performance under various operating conditions.  相似文献

Solid oxide fuel cell gas turbine (SOFC-GT) hybrid systems for producing electricity have received much attention due to high-predicted efficiencies, low pollution and availability of natural gas. Due to the higher value of peak power, a system able to meet fluctuating power demands while retaining high efficiencies is strongly preferable to base load operation. SOFC systems and hybrid variants designed to date have had narrow operating ranges due largely to the necessity of heat management within the fuel cell. Such systems have a single degree of freedom controlled and limited by the fuel cell. This study will introduce a new SOFC-GT hybrid configuration designed to operate over a 5:1 turndown ratio, while maintaining the SOFC stack exit temperature at a constant 1000 °C. The proposed system introduces two new degrees of freedom through the use of a variable-geometry nozzle turbine to directly influence system airflow, and an auxiliary combustor to control the thermal and power needs of the turbomachinery.  相似文献

To recover the waste heat from solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and improve the overall electrical efficiency, a new integrated power system driven by SOFC is proposed to achieve the cascade energy utilization. This system integrates an SOFC–GT system with an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as heat sink to recover the cryogenic energy of LNG. Based on the mathematical model, a parametric analysis is conducted to examine the effects of some key thermodynamic parameters on the system performance. The results indicate that the overall electrical efficiency of 67% can be easily achieved for the current system, which can be further improved with parametric optimization. An increase in fuel flow rate of SOFC can raise the net power output, but it has a negative effect on SOFC and overall electrical efficiency. The compressor pressure ratio contributes to an increase in SOFC and overall electrical efficiency, which are contrary to the effects of air flow rate and steam-to-carbon ratio. Under the given conditions, compared with the Kalina sub-system, the ORC sub-system produces 12.6% more power output by utilizing the cryogenic energy of LNG with simple configuration.  相似文献

In this thermodynamic investigation, an integrated energy system based on hydrogen fuel is developed and studied energetically and exergetically. The liquefied hydrogen fueled solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) based system is then integrated with a steam producing cycle to supply electricity and potable water to ships. The first heat recovery system, after the fuel cells provide thrust for the ship, is by means of a turbine while the second heat recovery system drives the ship's refrigeration cycle. This study includes energy and exergy performance evaluations of SOFC, refrigeration cycle and ship thrust engine systems. Furthermore, the effectiveness of SOFCs and a hydrogen fueled engine in reducing greenhouse gas emissions are assessed parametrically through a case study. The main propulsion, power generation from the solid oxide fuel cells, absorption chiller, and steam bottoming cycle systems together have the overall energy and exergy efficiencies of 41.53% and 37.13%, respectively.  相似文献

Apart from electricity, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) generates a great deal of high-grade exhaust heat, which must be immediately removed to guarantee SOFC's normal operation. To harvest the exhaust heat and improve the overall energy conversion efficiency, a new hybrid system model based upon a SOFC, a vacuum thermionic generator (VTIG) and a thermoelectric generator (TEG) is first proposed. Considering the main thermodynamic-electrochemical irreversible effects, the performance indicators assessing the whole system performance are mathematically derived. In comparison with the performance of sole SOFC, the effectiveness and feasibility of the presented system are verified. Numerical calculation examples illustrate that maximum achievable power density (MAPD) and its corresponding efficiency, exergetic efficiency and exergy destruction rate are, respectively, 26.8%, 9.8%, 9.8% and 8.8% larger than that of the stand-alone SOFC. Exhaustive sensitivity analyses are further conducted to investigate the impacts of various parameters on the tri-generation system performance. Results indicate that the grain size and average pore diameter of electrodes in SOFC and the thermoelectric element number in TEG can be optimized to maximize the hybrid system power density.  相似文献

This paper examines an integrated gasification and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system with a gas turbine and steam cycle that uses heat recovery of the gas turbine exhaust. Energy and exergy analyses are performed with two different types of coal. For the two different cases, the energy efficiency of the overall system is 38.1% and 36.7%, while the exergy efficiency is 27% and 23.2%, respectively. The effects of changing the reference temperature on the exergy destruction and exergy efficiency of different components are also reported. A parametric study on the effects of changing the pressure ratio on the component performance is presented.  相似文献

The current study deals with the thermodynamic modeling of an innovative integrated plant based on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) with liquefied natural gas (LNG) cold energy supply. For the suggested innovative plant the energy, and exergy simulations are fully extended and the plant comprehensively analyzed. According to mathematical simulations of the proposed plant, a MATLAB code has been extended. The results indicate that under considered initial conditions, the efficiencies of SOFC and net power generation calculated 58% and 78%, respectively and the CO2-capture rate is obtained 79 kg/h. This study clearly shows that the integrated system reached high efficiency while having zero emissions. In addition, the efficiencies and net amount of power generation, cooling or heating output and SOFC power generation are discussed in detail as a function of different variables such utilization factor, air/fuel ratio, or SOFC inlet temperature. For enhancing the power production efficiency of SOFC, the net electricity, and CCHP exergy efficiency the plant should run in higher utilization factor and lower air/fuel ration also it's important to approximately set SOFC temperature to its ideal temperature.  相似文献

In a global energetic context characterized by the increasing demand of oil and gas, the depletion of fossil resources and the global warming, more efficient energy systems and, consequently, innovative energy conversion processes are urgently required. A possible solution can be found in the fuel cells technology coupled with classical thermodynamic cycle technologies in order to make hybrid systems able to achieve high energy/power efficiency with low environmental impact. Moreover, due to the synergistic effect of using a high temperature fuel cell such as solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and a recuperative gas turbine (GT), the integrated system efficiency can be significantly improved. In this paper a steady zero dimensional model of a SOFC/GT hybrid system is presented. The core of the work consists of a performance analysis focused on the influence of the GT part load functioning on the overall system efficiency maintaining the SOFC power set to the nominal one. Also the proper design and management of the heat recovery section is object of the present study, with target a global electric efficiency almost constant in part load functioning respect to nominal operation. The results of this study have been used as basis to the development of a dynamic model, presented in the following part of the study focused on the plant dynamic analysis.  相似文献

This paper presents an analysis of the fuel flexibility of a methane-based solid oxide fuel cell-gas turbine (SOFC-GT) hybrid system. The simulation models of the system are mathematically defined. Special attention is paid to the development of an SOFC thermodynamic model that allows for the calculation of radial temperature gradients. Based on the simulation model, the new design point of system for new fuels is defined first; the steady-state performance of the system fed by different fuels is then discussed. When the hybrid system operates with hydrogen, the net power output at the new design point will decrease to 70% of the methane, while the design net efficiency will decrease to 55%. Similar to hydrogen, the net output power of the ethanol-fueled system will decrease to 88% of the methane value due to the lower cooling effect of steam reforming. However, the net efficiency can remain at 61% at high level due to increased heat recuperation from exhaust gas. To increase the power output of the hybrid system operating with non-design fuels without changing the system configuration, three different measures are introduced and investigated in this paper. The introduced measures can increase the system net power output operating with hydrogen to 94% of the original value at the cost of a lower efficiency of 45%.  相似文献

A high market value exists for an integrated high-temperature fuel cell-absorption chiller product throughout the world. While high-temperature, molten carbonate fuel cells are being commercially deployed with combined heat and power (CHP) and absorption chillers are being commercially deployed with heat engines, the energy efficiency and environmental attributes of an integrated high-temperature fuel cell-absorption chiller product are singularly attractive for the emerging distributed generation (DG) combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) market. This study addresses the potential of cooling production by recovering and porting the thermal energy from the exhaust gas of a high-temperature fuel cell (HTFC) to a thermally activated absorption chiller. To assess the practical opportunity of serving an early DG-CCHP market, a commercially available direct fired double-effect absorption chiller is selected that closely matches the exhaust flow and temperature of a commercially available HTFC. Both components are individually modeled, and the models are then coupled to evaluate the potential of a DG-CCHP system. Simulation results show that a commercial molten carbonate fuel cell generating 300 kW of electricity can be effectively coupled with a commercial 40 refrigeration ton (RT) absorption chiller. While the match between the two “off the shelf” units is close and the simulation results are encouraging, the match is not ideal. In particular, the fuel cell exhaust gas temperature is higher than the inlet temperature specified for the chiller and the exhaust flow rate is not sufficient to achieve the potential heat recovery within the chiller heat exchanger. To address these challenges, the study evaluates two strategies: (1) blending the fuel cell exhaust gas with ambient air, and (2) mixing the fuel cell exhaust gases with a fraction of the chiller exhaust gas. Both cases are shown to be viable and result in a temperature drop and flow rate increase of the gases before the chiller inlet. The results show that no risk of cold end corrosion within the chiller heat exchanger exists. In addition, crystallization is not an issue during system operation. Accounting for the electricity and the cooling produced and disregarding the remaining thermal energy, the second strategy is preferred and yields an overall estimated efficiency of 71.7%.  相似文献

A significant fraction of the gaseous fuel supplied to industry will be used in medium- and small-size cogeneration plants. In this paper, a gas turbine and a gas engine of about 800 kW power output are compared at full and part load operation. When low-temperature heat (e.g., for space heating) is produced, the higher exhaust losses of the gas turbine yield a lower system efficiency, particularly at part load. A scheme is proposed to recover the exhaust gas energy by cooling to a temperature near ambient. The system features a heat pump to raise the recovered heat temperature to a usable level and an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) engine to drive the heat pump. The ORC engine uses the high-temperature fraction of the heat recovered from the exhaust. The data for the ORC engine are derived from an actual experimental engine. The performance is calculated for the system at full load.  相似文献
