The purpose of this work is to develop automatic methods of semantic integrity maintenance, in support of concurrent engineering. Semantic integrity relations in any final engineering design are built up incrementally, through the use of different computer applications. Here, the structure of these integrity relations are formalised for representation within a database. When changes to a design have to be made, they can invalidate integrity relations in other parts of the design. Formal methods are defined for identifying what data and integrity relations are invalidated by any change. Methods for making changes that minimise re-design are described and formalised. This article presents an approach that a manager can use to allocate resources needed to design a system among the members of a concurrent design team. The system being designed is assumed to be composed of a number of subsystems, each designed by a different engineer. These engineers possess private information about the performance of their subsystem as a function of the design resources that they are allocated. This article shows how the manager of such a concurrent design project can induce rational self-interested engineers to reveal truthfully their private subsystem performance functions. This is accomplished through an incentive contract that ties each engineer’s pay to the contribution of their subsystem to the performance of the overall system. The approach builds from a Vickrey–Clarke–Groves mechanism to achieve, as an ex-post Nash equilibrium, truthful reporting of private subsystem performance functions by risk-neutral agents. 相似文献

This article presents a method for the integration of multiple computing processes used in design and design assessment for a parametric design problem. The method is based on a representation in which the processes are regarded as performing transformations between model states representing attributes of the designed artefact. A classification of attributes and of transformations is presented. The sequences of transformations and model states are modelled using Petri nets, and these models are used as a basis for the development of a computer-based controller that manages the interprocess interaction. The controller directs the concurrent and sequential operation of a number of computing processes operating on different workstations in a network. These processes include geometric modelling and a variety of design analysis actions that exchange data with each other in the optimum design of parametric parts. This article describes a method of accessibility analysis based on the geometrical study of all possible interferences between the probe and the part to be inspected. The parts considered in the analysis are rotational parts and their recognition is automatically made from a feature-based design. The probe considered is a star type, defined by adjustable parameters that allow for the adaptation to different types and sizes. The system analyses the possible collision with the machine column, touch probe and probe stylus. Apart from determining the conditions of collision, the system also calculates any collision-free positions on each surface to be probed. These positions can be used to obtain inspection paths for communication to a CMM or to a global inspection planning system. The collision conditions calculated have been checked and validated using different rotational parts. 相似文献

Defining and agreeing the product requirements is especially important when the design and manufacture of a system is part of an Extended Enterprise. To realize an all-inclusive concurrent engineering process, tools for the upstream design activities are needed. In practice, it is often difficult for the companies to have a shared understanding of what needs to be developed, and so specifications contain ambiguities in describing the product requirements. This paper clarifies the problem domain in the context of a complex product, designed and manufactured in a pan-national Extended Enterprise and serving a highly competitive market. The authors show how the challenge can be addressed through the application of ontology. A model of a requirements-management tool is proposed that will allow the various systems and associated levels of a product to be described and then shared through the supply chain. A prototype system is presented and illustrated through a case study from the automotive industry. 相似文献
