This article describes iSMS, a platform that integrates IP networks with the short message service in mobile telephone systems. iSMS provides a generic gateway for creating and hosting wireless data services for mobile stations. Our approach does not require any modification to the mobile telephone system architecture. The iSMS system can be quickly developed and operated by a third party or end user without involvement of mobile equipment manufacturers and telecom operators. Based on the iSMS platform, we illustrate services such as e-mail delivery/forwarding, Web access (e.g., stock and train schedule query) and handset music services. The iSMS platform and the services have been implemented for GSM networks. With iSMS, users are able to use standard GSM handsets to access wireless Internet services, while other approaches like the Wireless Application Protocol and SIM Toolkit services require function-enabled MSs  相似文献

With the emergence of multimedia applications that have real constraints, ensuring a satisfying quality of service to mobile users presents a big challenge in heterogeneous wireless networks. In such environment, the asymmetry of the available resources as well as user’s mobility can cause offered QoS degradation. In this paper, we propose the use of the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) within a QoS adaptive IPTV services in a novel IMS architecture. The multi-homing feature and the partial reliability extension allow improving the network performance and increasing the user satisfaction. In addition, we have proposed an mSCTP based mobility scheme to guarantee service continuity during handover to IPTV users over IMS. The handover decision includes Perceived QoS (PQoS) measurement reflecting the user satisfaction and Media Independent Handover (MIH) information. An analytical study of the time required to perform IPTV adaptation, show that our approach improves the performance by minimizing the delay and maximizing the user satisfaction.  相似文献

 迅速增长的移动网络服务给人们带来沉重的移动信息负担.移动用户偏好提取方法是缓解"移动信息过载"问题的有效手段.受加工水平模型和分布式认知理论的启发,提出一种基于认知心理学的移动用户偏好提取方法.在移动用户偏好信息结构建模的基础上,引入服务加工水平认知、有效上下文认知的概念,并计算其对用户偏好提取的影响,然后分别提取基于服务加工水平认知和基于有效上下文认知的用户偏好,最终提取综合的用户偏好.实验结果表明,该方法能有效提高移动用户偏好提取精确度,为用户提供满足个性化需求的移动网络服务.  相似文献

In the near future, we will see dramatic changes in computing and networking hardware. A large number of devices (e.g., phones, PDAs, even small household appliances) will become computationally enabled. Micro/nano sensors will be widely embedded in most engineered artifacts, from the clothes we wear to the roads we drive on. All of these devices will be (wirelessly) networked using Bluetooth, IEEE 802.15 or IEEE 802.11 for short range connectivity creating pervasive environments. In this age where a large number of wirelessly networked appliances and devices are becoming commonplace, there is a necessity for providing a standard interface to them that is easily accessible by any user. This paper outlines the design of Centaurus, an infrastructure for presenting services to heterogeneous mobile clients in a physical space via some short range wireless links. The infrastructure is communication medium independent; we have implemented the system over Bluetooth, CDPD and Infrared, three well-known wireless technologies. All the components in our model use a language based on Extensible Markup Language (XML) for communication, giving the system a uniform and easily adaptable interface. Centaurus defines a uniform infrastructure for heterogeneous services, both hardware and software, to be made available to diverse mobile users within a confined space.  相似文献

4G wireless networks will integrate heterogeneous technologies such as Wireless LAN and third generation (3G) cellular networks and have the capability to offer various services at any time as per user requirements, anywhere with seamless interoperability at affordable cost. One important challenge in such a heterogeneous wireless environment is to enable network selection mechanisms in order to keep the mobile users always best connected anywhere and at any time. In this paper, a multi-criteria access network selection algorithm is proposed in Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access–Wireless Fidelity environment, in order to facilitate the provision of high quality services and at the same time to satisfy different types of user service level agreements. Analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and grey relational analysis (GRA) methods are applying for optimal access network selection. The proposed methodology combines the AHP to decide the relative weights of criteria set according to network’s performance, as well as the GRA to rank the network alternatives. The advantages of the GRA method are that the results are based on the original data, the calculations are simple and straightforward, and finally it is one of the best methods to make decision under heterogeneous wireless network environment.  相似文献

Affordable Mobile TV Services in Hybrid Cellular and DVB-H Systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Mobile TV services are expected to become a key application in future wireless networks. The recently proposed terrestrial digital broadcast technology, DVB-H, especially designed for mobile services, is regarded as a powerful alternative to the 3G cellular networks that already offer these services out on a point-to-point basis. Unfortunately, the cost of supporting real-time streaming and full area coverage seems to be very high compared to fixed TV services. In this article we discuss hybrid IP datacast DVB-H and 3G systems as a possible solution for providing affordable network infrastructure and services. Our approach is DVB-H centric. The 3G cellular system plays the role of providing interactivity, error reporting, and repair for the DVB-H broadcast channel. To enable an easy and efficient interworking of DVB-H and 3G, we employ forward error correction at the application layer with digital fountain coding. The main way to provide lower cost services is to avoid full DVB-H area coverage from the beginning and to perform an incremental DVB-H network deployment that follows the user demand. In this direction, to hide the discontinuity in coverage from the perception of users, we propose to take advantage of the bursty character of DVB-H transmissions and the mobility of users. This is possible by sending additional parity data, either with the DVB-H or the cellular network, in the time intervals between original service bursts. We evaluate the potential DVB-H infrastructure cost savings determined by transmitting additional parity data in DVB-H when targeting vehicular users. The implications of delivering parity data through the cellular network also are discussed. The numerical investigations show a potential for significant cost savings compared with the traditional approaches  相似文献

This paper discusses limitations in existing and projected solutions for delivering applications to mobile users (e.g., in 3G) in an increasingly diverse heterogeneous wireless infrastructure in combination with the on-going deregulation of mobile communication and with an increasing number of more narrowly defined roles of parties participating in the delivery of applications to mobile users. Furthermore, for future service growth, users need to be the center of communication via applications that take into account the user's context or the context of their communication based on any event and not just the invocation or release of communication resources. This calls for entirely rethinking the architectures and frameworks for the delivery of services, in order to create open and scalable support for the negotiation between participating entities with a minimum of a priori and shared knowledge, thus providing an adaptive and extensible environment for user-centric communication. This paper presents a novel architecture and components with these properties and discusses the merits of the approach, followed by a discussion of experimental results demonstrating the feasibility of applying this architecture.  相似文献

This paper presents a new paradigm for network computing over the Internet called universal personal computing, where mobile users can access computing resources, network services, and personalized computing environments anywhere using any available terminals. The user and system requirements are defined, and an agent-based protocol architecture required to manage different mobile objects, i.e., users and terminals, in this computing environment is presented. Modifications of connection setup procedures between user application programs to enable addressing based on a global user identity are considered. A modeling approach to the problem of channel sharing in land mobile radio dispatch services, which is based on real life traffic data, is presented. In order to apply the GI/G/1 queueing model, the first step consists in identifying a message arrival process for each user by means of observed available data. It is then shown how to use simple approximation formulas to evaluate the expected waiting time, when two or more independent users must share a common channel. 近年社交网络用户数量不断增加,基于文本的用户情感分析技术得到普遍关注和应用。但数据稀疏性、精度较低等问题往往会降低情感识别方法的精度和速度,提出了用户情感Biterm主题模型(US-BTM),从特定场所的文本中发现用户偏好及情感倾向,有效利用Biterm进行主题建模,并使用聚合策略形成伪文档,为整个文本集创建词汇配对以解决数据稀疏性和短文本等问题。通过词汇共现算法对主题进行研究,推断文本集级别信息的主题,并通过分析特定场景下的评论文本集中的词汇配对集及其相应主题的情感,达到准确预测用户对特定场景的兴趣、偏好和情感的目的。结果证明,所提方法能准确地捕捉用户的情感倾向,正确地揭示用户偏好,可广泛应用于社交网络的内容描述、推荐及社交网络用户兴趣描述、语义分析等多个领域。  相似文献

Recent achievements in the positioning technology enable the provision of location-based services that require high accuracy. On the other hand, location privacy is important, since position information is considered as personal information. Thus, anonymity and location privacy in mobile and pervasive environments has been receiving increasing attention during the last few years, and several mechanisms and architectures have been proposed to prevent “big brother” phenomena. In this paper, we discuss an architecture to shield the location of a mobile user and preserve the anonymity on the service delivery. This architecture relies on un-trusted entities to distribute segments of anonymous location information, and authorizes other entities to combine these portions and derive the actual location of a user. The paper describes how the proposed architecture takes into account the location privacy requirements, and how it is used by the end users’ devices, e.g., mobile phones, for the dissemination of location information to Service Providers. Furthermore, it discusses performance study experiments, based on real location data, and summarizes the threats analysis results.  相似文献

We present a comparison of the control signaling load of two vastly different architectures for providing personal communication services (PCSs). One architecture is based on current cellular networks. The other architecture, called the wireless distributed call processing architecture (WDCPA), distributes processing from the mobile switching centers and cell sites and executes new procedures for tracking mobile users and locating mobile users to deliver calls. We determine the signaling load generated within each system to support mobility management and call control based on standard assumptions about the operating parameters of a cellular network. Our results show that, when compared to current cellular systems, for simple single-connection services, WDCPA has marginally reduced cross-network signaling loads. For multiconnection calls, WDCPA incurs 35% less total signaling load for mobility management, has reduced cross-network signaling load for mobility management by up to 65%, and depending on the user model (e.g., data or telecommunication), has reduced total cross-network signaling load, including procedures for call/connection and mobility management, by up to 55% when compared to current cellular systems, while more flexibly supporting services  相似文献

As different types of wireless networks are converging into an all-IP network, i.e., the Internet, it can be expected that in the near future video-on-demand (VoD) will be widely applied to many interesting services, and users can access these services using heterogeneous terminals via heterogeneous wired/wireless access networks. Many periodic broadcasting protocols have been proposed to reduce the implementation cost of VoD systems. However, most of the protocols assumed homogeneity for user terminals, while in practice, user terminals are usually quite different in their processing power, buffer space, and power. To address this problem, a few periodic broadcasting protocols providing the same video quality for all heterogeneous clients have been proposed recently. In this paper, we proposed a novel heterogeneous VoD broadcasting technique called Catch and Rest (CAR) to accommodate bandwidth heterogeneity without sacrificing user video quality. Then, we provide mathematic analysis to calculate the client bandwidth and buffer space requirements of CAR. Finally, we present our performance evaluation results for CAR. Our results show that under the same system resources (i.e., server and network bandwidth), CAR provides more uniform and acceptable service latency for all heterogeneous clients compared to previous works.  相似文献
