Thermal response tests (TRTs) are crucial for the estimation of the ground thermal properties and thermal performance of the borehole heat exchanger (BHE) of the ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) system. In this article, a TRT apparatus was designed and built to measure the temperature response of inlet and outlet sections of BHE in the test borehole, the apparatus can effectively operate under both constant heating flux modes and heat injection and extraction modes with a constant inlet temperature. A TRT for a project of GCHP located in the Jiangsu province of China was carried out by the experimental apparatus. Based on the experimental data, the heat transfer performances of BHE under heating and cooling modes were evaluated, and the ground thermal properties, which include the ground thermal conductivity, ground volumetric specific heat, borehole thermal resistance and effective soil thermal resistance, were determined by the line source model. The results indicate that the experimental device and analysis model proposed in this article can be effectively applied to estimate the ground thermal properties and thermal performance of BHE. During the process of thermal response of ground, the fluid temperatures vary acutely at the start-stage of 8 h, and then tend to be a steady state after 40 h. The test data during the start-stage should be discarded for improving the estimation accuracy of ground thermal properties. At the same time, the effective soil thermal resistance increases continuously with time and a steady-state value would be reached after the start-time, and this steady-state thermal resistance can be used to evaluate the required length of BHE. In addition, the heat transfer rate of the BHE under different operating conditions can be used for the further evaluation on long-term operation performance of GCHPs.  相似文献

A modified three-dimensional finite difference model for the borehole ground heat exchangers of a ground-source heat pump (GSHP) system was developed which accounted for multiple ground layers with different thermal properties in the borefield at no groundwater flow. The present model was used to investigate the impact of ignoring ground layers in the thermal response test (TRT) analysis and the subsequent system simulation. It was found that the adoption of an effective ground thermal conductivity and an effective ground volumetric heat capacity for a multi-layer ground determined from a TRT analysis led to very little error in the simulated long term system performance under various ground compositions investigated. The maximum difference occurred for a 3 × 3 borefield in a dual-layer ground which measured 0.5 °C or 3.9% in the rise of the borefield fluid leaving temperature with a cooling-dominated loading profile for 10 years. With the same borefield and ground composition, a dynamic simulation of the complete GSHP system was performed using the TRNSYS simulation software. It was found that the overall system performance based on the present and the old models differed very little. It was concluded that the assumption of a homogeneous ground in a TRT analysis and subsequent system simulation was appropriate and impact of ignoring ground layers was small. A single-ground-layer model, including the analytical models, was sufficient even for a multi-layer ground. This could reduce the computation time significantly, especially when simulating a large borefield.  相似文献

During a thermal response test (TRT) or during operation of a borehole heat exchanger (BHE) system, a temperature gradient in and around the borehole is achieved. This causes convective flow in the groundwater due to density differences. In groundwater filled BHE the convective heat flow influences the heat transport in the borehole system. The size of the influence depends on the injection rate used, which changes during the year for normal BHE systems. Multi-injection rate TRT (MIR TRT) may be used as a method to detect the convective heat influence and to examine the effect on the BHE thermal transport parameters. It was shown that MIR TRT constitutes a valuable method to detect fractured bedrock and to examine the effect of different heat injection rates. For boreholes located in solid bedrock only the borehole thermal resistance was influenced by the convective flow. An increase in heat injection rate resulted in a decrease in resistance. It was shown that the length of the collector did not affect the result. For the fractured bedrock the effective bedrock conductivity was also affected, an increase in heat injection rate resulted in a higher effective bedrock thermal conductivity.  相似文献

This paper presents a performance study of deep borehole heat exchangers. The coaxial borehole heat exchanger (BHE) has been selected because for the present conditions it has a better performance than the conventional U-tube BHE. A numerical model has been developed to study the coaxial BHE. The model predictions are compared to detailed distributed temperature measurements obtained during a thermal response test. The model is found to accurately predict the behavior of a coaxial BHE. The influence of the flow direction of the mass flow is studied for BHEs in the range 200 m–500 m. A parametric performance study is then carried out for the coaxial case with different borehole depths, flow rates and collector properties. The results clearly show a significant increase in the system performance with depth. In addition, it is shown that with increasing borehole depth, the heat load that can be sustained by the BHE is significantly increased. An overall performance chart for coaxial BHEs for the depths of 300–1000 m is presented. The chart can be used as a guide when sizing deep BHE installations.  相似文献

The design of a ground heat exchanger for Underground Thermal Energy Storage (UTES) applications requires, among other parameters, knowledge of the thermal properties of the soil (thermal conductivity, borehole thermal resistance and undisturbed soil temperature). In situ determination of these properties can be done by installing a vertical borehole heat exchanger (BHE) and performing the so-called thermal response test (TRT). The present paper describes the results of a cooperative work between research groups of Chile and Argentina, which led to the first thermal response test performed in Latin America. A setup for implementing the TRT was prepared at the “Solar Energy Laboratory” of the Technical University Federico Santa Maria, Valparaiso, Chile. The test was realized over 9 days (24 June to 3 July 2003) while inlet and outlet fluid temperatures of the BHE and the ambient temperature were measured every minute. A comparison between conventional slope determination method, Geothermal Properties Measurement (GPM) data evaluation software based on numerical solutions to the differential equations governing the heat transfer processes and two variable-parameter fitting was performed in order to calculate the thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance. The detailed study of ground properties in different regions of Chile and Latin America (Argentina, Brazil) is a good precondition for future investigation and application of the Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) technology in the region.  相似文献

The system performance of a ground source heat pump (HP) system is determined by the HP characteristics itself and by the thermal interaction between the ground and its borehole heat exchanger (BHE). BHE performance is strongly influenced by the thermal properties of the ground formation, grouting material, and BHE type. Experimental investigations on different BHE types and grouting materials were carried out in Belgium. Its performances were investigated with in situ thermal response tests to determine the thermal conductivity (λ) and borehole resistance (Rb). The line‐source method was used to analyze the results, and the tests showed the viability of the method. The main goal was to determine the thermal borehole resistance of BHEs, including the effect of the grouting material. The ground thermal conductivity was measured as 2.21 W m?1 K?1, a high value for the low fraction of water‐saturated sand and the high clay content at the test field. The borehole resistance for a standard coaxial tube with cement–bentonite grouting varied from 0.344 to 0.162 K W?1 m for the double U‐tube with cement–bentonite mixture (52% reduction). Grouting material based on purely a cement–bentonite mixture results in a high thermal borehole resistance. Addition of sand to the mixture leads to a better performance. The use of thermally enhanced grouts did not improve the performance significantly in comparison with only a low‐cost grouting material as sand. Potential future applications are possible in our country using a mobile testing device, such as characteristics, standardization, quality control, and certification for drilling companies and ground source HP applications, and in situ research for larger systems. A solution to the three-dimensional finite line-source (FLS) model for borehole heat exchangers (BHEs) that takes into account the prevailing geothermal gradient and allows arbitrary ground surface temperature changes is presented. Analytical expressions for the average ground temperature are derived by integrating the exact solution over the line-source depth. A self-consistent procedure to evaluate the in situ thermal response test (TRT) data is outlined. The effective thermal conductivity and the effective borehole thermal resistance can be determined by fitting the TRT data to the time-series expansion obtained for the average temperature.  相似文献

Ground source heat pump systems often use vertical boreholes to exchange heat with the ground. Two areas of active research are the development of models to predict the thermal performance of vertical boreholes and improved procedures for analysis of in situ thermal conductivity tests, commonly known as thermal response tests (TRT). Both the models and analysis procedures ultimately need to be validated by comparing them to actual borehole data sets. This paper describes reference data sets for researchers to test their borehole models. The data sets are from a large laboratory “sandbox” containing a borehole with a U-tube. The tests are made under more controlled conditions than can be obtained in field tests. Thermal response tests on the borehole include temperature measurements on the borehole wall and within the surrounding soil, which are not usually available in field tests. The test data provide independent values of soil thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance for verifying borehole models and TRT analysis procedures. As an illustration, several borehole models are compared with one of the thermal response tests.  相似文献

Geothermal heat pumps are becoming more and more popular as the price of fossil fuels is increasing and a strong reduction of anthropogenic CO2 emissions is needed. The energy performances of these plants are closely related to the thermal and hydrogeological properties of the soil, but a proper design and installation also plays a crucial role. A set of flow and heat transport simulations has been run to evaluate the impact of different parameters on the operation of a GSHP. It is demonstrated that the BHE length is the most influential factor, that the heat carrier fluid also plays a fundamental role, and that further improvements can be obtained by using pipe spacers and highly conductive grouts. On the other hand, if the physical properties of the soil are not surveyed properly, they represent a strong factor of uncertainty when modelling the operation of these plants. The thermal conductivity of the soil has a prevailing importance and should be determined with in-situ tests (TRT), rather than assigning values from literature. When groundwater flow is present, the advection should also be considered, due to its positive effect on the performances of BHEs; by contrast, as little is currently known about thermal dispersion, relying on this transport mechanism can lead to an excessively optimistic design.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of horizontal GSHP by considering various system parameters for winter climatic condition of Bursa, Turkey. For this purpose, a previously used experimental facility on cooling cycle [Coskun S, Pulat E, Unlu K, Yamankaradeniz R. Experimental performance investigation of a horizontal ground source compression refrigeration machine. International Journal of Energy Research 2008; 32: 44–56] was modified for the heating cycle. Soil thermal conductivity estimation was expanded and discussed. Preliminary numerical temperature distribution around GHE pipes was obtained. Tests were performed under laboratory conditions for space heating from December 2004 to March 2005. Variations of entering and leaving antifreeze solution temperatures, extracted heat from ground and rejected heat to the test room, super heat rate in evaporator and subcooling rate in condenser, total power consumption and coefficient of performance (COP) values for both the entire system and only heat pump unit (HPU) were obtained. Effect of outdoor temperature on system capacities and COP values with respect to outdoor air and mean soil temperatures were also presented. The COP of the entire system and HPU lie between 2.46–2.58 and 4.03–4.18, respectively. GSHP system was compared to conventional heating methods in the economical analysis and it was shown that the GSHP system is more cost effective than the all other conventional heating systems.  相似文献

An in situ thermal response test (TRT) is applied to evaluate the thermal performance of the vertical ground heat exchanger (GHX) with two U‐loop configuration. A line source method is used to derive the thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance from the measured data. Analyses are made to improve the interpretation of TRT data and to investigate the active area of interest in the borehole. Load tests of the GHX are performed to examine the daily variations of ground and mean fluid temperatures associated with daily intermittent operation of ground source heat pump system. Results show that while the ground thermal conductivity of two U‐loop GHX is moderately increased, the borehole thermal resistance is significantly reduced, compared with the single U‐loop GHX. Of the borehole thermal resistance components evaluated, the grout thermal resistance is the most governing one in the borehole heat transfer (77% of the total borehole thermal resistance), whereas the convective thermal resistance in the tube is almost negligible (less than 2%). The hybrid ground-coupled heat pump (HGCHP) systems with supplemental heat rejecter/supplier can effectively solve heat imbalance problems in the subsurface, and consequently improve the operation performance of the geothermal systems. For example, solar energy and/or industrial waste heat may be used as stable heat sources for underground heat storage in northern China with higher heating load, and cooling towers are installed to release heat into the air in southern China, where more cooling demand is needed. This paper reviews and discusses different HGCHP systems, which have been applied in China. And based on the heat transfer model of vertical borehole heat exchangers (BHE) for HGCHP systems, physical and mathematical models of multistage series circuits are developed to illustrate the heat transfer process of the underground thermal storage. A set of parameters, such as borehole spacing, heat recharging rate fractions and thermal properties of soils, which affect the thermal performance of the ground heat exchangers are analyzed, and the optimal solutions are discussed for engineering application.  相似文献

The long-term performance of double U-tube BHE (borehole heat exchanger) fields is investigated by finite element simulations, performed through the software package COMSOL Multiphysics (©COMSOL, Inc.), for grounds in which the effects of groundwater movement are negligible. Six time periodic heat loads with period of 1 year are examined, with either full compensation, or partial compensation or no compensation of winter heating with summer cooling. A single BHE surrounded by infinite ground and the following BHE field configurations are analyzed: a single line of infinite BHEs, two staggered lines of infinite BHEs, a square field of infinite BHEs. For each BHE field configuration, four different distances between adjacent BHEs and two values of the ground thermal conductivity are considered. The undisturbed ground temperature is assumed equal to 14 °C, and −5 °C is prescribed as the lowest allowed temperature for the working fluid. For each BHE field geometry, heat load and ground thermal conductivity, plots of the minimum annual value of the fluid temperature for a period of 50 years are reported, and the pairs “distance – heat load” which keep the fluid temperature above the prescribed limit are evidenced.  相似文献

This paper presents the cooling performance of a water-to-refrigerant type ground heat source heat pump system (GSHP) installed in a school building in Korea. The evaluation of the cooling performance has been conducted under the actual operation of GSHP system in the summer of year 2007. Ten heat pump units with the capacity of 10 HP each were installed in the building. Also, a closed vertical typed-ground heat exchanger with 24 boreholes of 175 m in depth was constructed for the GSHP system. To analyze the cooling performance of the GSHP system, we monitored various operating conditions, including the outdoor temperature, the ground temperature, and the water temperature of inlet and outlet of the ground heat exchanger. Simultaneously, the cooling capacity and the input power were evaluated to determine the cooling performance of the GSHP system. The average cooling coefficient of performance (COP) and overall COP of the GSHP system were found to be ~8.3 and ~5.9 at 65% partial load condition, respectively. While the air source heat pump (ASHP) system, which has the same capacity with the GSHP system, was found to have the average COP of ~3.9 and overall COP of ~3.4, implying that the GSHP system is more efficient than the ASHP system due to its lower temperature of condenser.  相似文献

The authors introduce calculation algorithm of the temperatures of the ground and heat carrier fluid in multiple ground heat exchangers for pipe arrangement of ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems. First, the outline is explained. Next, in order to investigate possibility for the operation of the GSHP system with steel foundation piles and validate reproducibility of the value calculated by the design tool including the calculation algorithm, field tests of heating and heat extraction were conducted with a residential GSHP system using 25 steel foundation piles of 8 m long as ground heat exchangers. From a result of comparison between temperatures of the measurement in the test and calculation by using the design tool, it was confirmed that the tool could predict the temperatures with acceptable precision and speed for utilizing as a design tool. In addition, performance of GSHP systems with steel foundation piles in long term is predicted with the design tool. In moderate climate region, since the GSHP systems using multiple ground heat exchangers with short length can operate with high efficiency as well as the GSHP system using a single ground heat exchanger with long length, the GSHP systems with steel foundation piles have possibility to become popular.  相似文献

Technology directed at geothermal energy, one of our renewable energy sources, to heat and air-condition buildings has become very attractive in recent years following the significant developments in ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems. In general, although the energy efficiency of GSHP systems is far superior to conventional air-source heat pump (ASHP) systems, GSHP system is still expensive. Therefore, GSHP system employs the foundation pile of buildings as heat exchanger is introduced in order to reduce the initial cost. When designing a GSHP system (especially in case of the energy pile system), it is necessary to accurately predict the heat extraction and injection rates of the heat exchanger. The thermal and hydraulic properties of the ground are very important to accurately predict heat transfer between the ground heat exchanger and the ground. In particular, those are the most important design parameters because energy pile system is installed only a few tens of meters deep. In this paper, an estimation method is suggested in order to determine the thermal and hydraulic properties of the ground for design the heat exchanger of energy pile system base on geotechnical investigation for the design the building's foundations. The use of results from generally applied geotechnical site investigation methods to estimate ground thermal and hydraulic properties was evaluated.  相似文献

Because of poor heat transfer coefficients of soil/rock, ground source heat pumps (GSHP) or underground thermal energy storage (UTES) systems always occupy a large area and need many ground heat exchangers. This initial energy investment is so heavy that it cannot be used on a large-scale. Intermittent operation can reduce the extreme temperatures around the ground heat exchangers (GHEs) and keep the temperature in reasonable range. The aim of this study is to implement an experiment and develop a dynamic model of hydronic heating systems of GSHP in order to get a more fair comparison of energy efficiency between continuously controlled and intermittently controlled systems. Factors such as thermal inertia, temperature levels and lag time are also considered to see how they affect the efficiency. It is shown that temperature variation is related to the intermittent period and that intermittence prolongs the heat transfer without reaching at an utmost temperature (operation limitation). An effectively controlled intermittent process can optimize the capacity of heat exchange units so as to achieve better application of the ground energy. Additionally, the intermittent control can decrease the number of GHEs of GSHP and UTES systems and keep better working conditions.  相似文献

This paper proposed a transient numerical model for a coaxial borehole heat exchanger, which considered the impact of borehole specific heat capacity. The fluid vertical temperature distribution inside the coaxial borehole heat exchanger (BHE) had been predicted based on MATLAB and compared with other transient models. Validated by measured data from a thermal response test, the built model agreed better than other models, especially in short times, with a relative error of 3.63% in 2 hours. Then, the quantitative influences of borehole specific heat capacity and other parameters on thermal performance of borehole heat exchangers were specified.  相似文献
