Poly(ether ether ketone)s and poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s containing pendant pentadecyl chains were synthesized by polycondensation of each of the two bisphenol monomers viz, 1,1,1‐[bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4′‐pentadecylphenyl]ethane and 1,1‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐3‐pentadecyl cyclohexane with activated aromatic dihalides namely, 4,4′‐difluorobenzophenone, and 1,3‐bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)benzene in a solvent mixture of N,N‐dimethylacetamide and toluene, in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate. Polymers were isolated as white fibrous materials with inherent viscosities and number average molecular weights in the range 0.70–1.27 dL g?1 and 76,620–1,36,720, respectively. Poly(ether ether ketone)s and poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s were found to be soluble at room temperature in organic solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran, and pyridine and could be cast into tough, transparent, and flexible films from their solutions in chloroform. Wide angle X‐ray diffraction patterns exhibited a broad halo at around 2θ = ~ 19° indicating that the polymers containing pentadecyl chains were amorphous in nature. In the small‐angle region, diffuse reflections of a typically layered structures resulting from the packing of pentadecyl side chains were observed. The temperature at 10% weight loss, obtained from TG curves, for poly(ether ether ketone)s and poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s were in the range 416–459°C, indicating their good thermal stability. A substantial drop in glass transition temperatures (68–78°C) was observed for poly(ether ether ketone)s and poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s due to “internal plasticization” effect of flexible pendant pentadecyl chains. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 4‐(4‐(4‐(4‐Aminophenoxy)‐2‐pentadecylphenoxy)phenoxy)aniline (APPPA) was synthesized starting from cashew nut shell liquid‐derived bisphenol, i.e. 4‐(4‐hydroxyphenoxy)‐3‐pentadecylphenol, by nucleophilic substitution reaction with 4‐chloronitrobenzene followed by reduction of the formed 4‐(4‐nitrophenoxy)‐1‐(4‐(4‐nitrophenoxy)phenoxy)‐2‐pentadecylbenzene. Three new polyetherimides containing multiple ether linkages and pendent pentadecyl chains were synthesized by one‐step high‐temperature solution polycondensation of APPPA in m‐cresol with three aromatic dianhydrides, i.e. 3,3′,4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride, 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride and 3,3′,4,4′‐biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride. Inherent viscosities and number‐average molecular weights of the polyetherimides were in the ranges 0.66–0.70 dL g?1 and 17 100–29 700 g mol?1 (gel permeation chromatography, polystyrene standards), respectively, indicating the formation of reasonably high molecular weight polymers. The polyetherimides were soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran, pyridine, m‐cresol, N,N‐dimethylformamide, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N‐methylpyrrolidone and dimethylsulfoxide, and could be cast into transparent, flexible and tough films from their solutions in chloroform. The polyetherimides exhibited glass transition temperatures (Tg) in the range 113–131 °C. The lowering of Tg could be attributed to the combined influence of flexibilizing ether linkages and pentadecyl chains which act as ‘packing‐disruptive’ groups. The temperature at 10% weight loss (T10), determined from thermogravimetric analysis in nitrogen atmosphere, was in the range 460–470 °C demonstrating good thermal stability. The virtues of solubility and large gap between Tg and T10 mean that the polyetherimides containing pendent pentadecyl chains have possibilities for both solution as well as melt processability. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

In order to overcome the poor flowability of poly(arylene sulfide sulfone) (PASS), we introduced ether bonds into the polymer main chain. A series poly(arylene ether sulfide sulfone) copolymers (PAESS) containing different proportion of ether bonds were synthesized with 4,4′‐dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCDPS), sodium sulfide (Na2xH2O), and 4,4′‐dihydroxydiphenyl ether (DHDPE). The copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and rheometer. The results of FTIR and 1H‐NMR indicate the copolymers are synthesized successfully. PAESS were found to have excellent thermal properties with glass transition temperature (Tg) of 175.7–219.1 °C and 5% weight lost temperature were all above 420 °C. The tensile and DMA test indicates that these resultant copolymers have good mechanical properties with tensile strength of 60 MPa and storage modulus of 1.5 GPa. From the results of rheology properties testing, we found that the melt stability and melt flowability of PASS were improved distinctly from 25,470 Pa s down to 355 Pa s with the incorporation of ether bonds. That will be quite beneficial to the processing of PASS, especially for the thermoforming of precision products. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2018 , 135, 46534.  相似文献

The 4‐[4′‐(Hydrazinocarbonyl)phenoxy]‐2‐pentadecylbenzohydrazide was polycondensed with aromatic diacid chlorides viz., terephthalic acid chloride (TPC), isophthalic acid chloride (IPC), and a mixture of TPC : IPC (50 : 50 mol %) to obtain polyhydrazides which on subsequent cyclodehydration reaction in the presence of phosphoryl chloride yielded new poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s bearing flexibilizing ether linkages and pentadecyl side chains. Inherent viscosities of polyhydrazides and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s were in the range 0.53–0.66 dL g?1 and 0.49–0.53 dL g?1, respectively, indicating formation of medium to reasonably high molecular weight polymers. The number average molecular weights (Mn) and polydispersities (Mw/Mn) of poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s were in the range 14,660–21,370 and 2.2–2.5, respectively. Polyhydrazides and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s were soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide, 1‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, and N,N‐dimethylformamide. Furthermore, poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s were also found to be soluble in solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran, pyridine, and m‐cresol. Transparent, flexible, and tough films of polyhydrazides and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s could be cast from N,N‐dimethylacetamide and chloroform solutions, respectively. Both polyhydrazides and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s were amorphous in nature and formation of layered structure was observed due to packing of pentadecyl chains. A decrease in glass transition temperature was observed both in polyhydrazides (143–166°C) and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s (90–102°C) which could be ascribed to “internal plasticization” effect of pentadecyl chains. The T10 values, obtained from TG curves, for poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s were in the range of 433–449°C indicating their good thermal stability. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(arylene ether)s with biphenyl units and pendant sulfonated phenylsulfonyl groups was prepared via nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions of varying ratios of 3,5‐difluoro‐3′‐sulfonated diphenylsulfone and 4,4′‐difluorodiphenylsulfone with 4,4′‐biphenol. As such, the sulfonic acid moieties reside in the meta position of a pendant, electron‐poor phenylsulfonyl group. Mechanically robust proton‐exchange membranes with ion‐exchange capacities (IEC) ranging from 0.91 to 2.05 meq g?1 were cast from dimethylacetamide. The thermal stability of the membranes was evaluated via thermogravimetric analysis and the 5% weight losses were found to be in excess of 330 °C in air. The glass transition temperatures were determined, via differential scanning calorimetry, to range from a low of 148 to a high of 209 °C at IEC values of 0.91 and 1.79 meq g?1, respectively. The copolymer membranes reached proton conductivities as high as 142 mS cm?1 under 100% relative humidity, with relatively low water uptake values (8–32 wt%). Amine‐terminated poly(arylene ether sulfone)–carboxylic‐terminated butadiene‐acrylonitrile–poly(arylene ether sulfone) (PES‐CTBN‐PES) triblock copolymers with controlled molecular weights of 15,000 (15K) or 20,000 (20K) g/mol were synthesized from amine‐terminated PES oligomer and commercial CTBN rubber (CTBN 1300x13). The copolymers were utilized to modify a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A epoxy resin by varying the loading from 5 to 40 wt %. The epoxy resins were cured with 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylsulfone and subjected to tests for thermal properties, plane strain fracture toughness (KIC), flexural properties, and solvent resistance measurements. The fracture surfaces were analyzed with SEM to elucidate the toughening mechanism. The properties of copolymer‐toughened epoxy resins were compared to those of samples modified by PES/CTBN blends, PES oligomer, or CTBN. The PES‐CTBN‐PES copolymer (20K) showed a KIC of 2.33 MPa m0.5 at 40 wt % loading while maintaining good flexural properties and chemical resistance. However, the epoxy resin modified with a CTBN/8K PES blend (2:1) exhibited lower KIC (1.82 MPa m0.5), lower flexural properties, and poorer thermal properties and solvent resistance compared to the 20K PES‐CTBN‐PES copolymer‐toughened samples. The high fracture toughness with the PES‐CTBN‐PES copolymer is believed to be due to the ductile fracture of the continuous PES‐rich phases, as well as the cavitation of the rubber‐rich phases. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of sulfonated poly(aryl ether sulfone) copolymers containing phenyl pendant groups with sulfonic acid groups on the backbone were synthesized through condensation polymerization. The degree of sulfonation (DS) of the copolymers was controlled by changing the feed ratios of sulfonated to unsulfonated monomers. Post‐crosslink reactions are carried out with 4,4′‐thiodibenzoic acid (TDA) as a crosslinker and the carboxylic acid groups in TDA can undergo Friedel–Craft acylation with the phenyls pendent rings in sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)s copolymers to prepare polymer electrolyte membranes for fuel cell applications. The chemical structures of crosslinked and uncrosslinked sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)s copolymers (SPSFs and CSPSFs) were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR spectra. The thermal and mechanical properties of the membranes were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and stress–strain test. The dependence of water uptake, methanol permeability, proton conductivity, and selectivity on DS was studied. Transmission electron microscopic observations revealed that SPSFs and CSPSFs membranes form well‐defined microphase separated structures. POLYM. ENG. Sulfonated cardo poly(arylene ether sulfone)s ( SPPA ‐ PES ) with various degrees of sulfonation (DS) were prepared by post‐sulfonation of synthesized phenolphthalein anilide ( PPA ; N‐phenyl‐3,3′‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐1‐isobenzopyrolidone) poly(arylene ether sulfone)s ( PPA ‐ PES ) by using concentrated sulfuric acid. PPA ‐ PES copolymers were synthesized by direct polycondensation of PPA with bis‐(4‐fluorophenyl)‐sulfone and 4,4′‐sulfonyldiphenol. The DS was varied with different mole ratios of PPA (24, 30, 40, 50 mol.%) in the polymer. The structure of the resulting SPPA ‐ PES copolymers and the different contents of the sulfonated unit were studied by Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Sorption experiments were conducted to observe the interaction of sulfonated polymer with water. The ion exchange capacity (IEC) and proton conductivity of SPPA ‐ PES were evaluated according to the increase of DS. The water uptake (WU) of the resulting SPPA ‐ PES membranes was in the range of 20–72%, compared with 28% for Nafion 211®. The SPPA ‐ PES membranes showed proton conductivities of 23–82 mS cm–1, compared with 194 mS cm–1 for Nafion 211®, under 100% relative humidity (RH) at 80 °C.  相似文献

A new diimide–diacid chloride (3) containing a noncoplanar 2,2′‐dimethyl‐4,4′‐biphenylene unit was synthesized by treating 2,2′‐dimethyl‐4,4′‐diamino‐biphenylene with trimellitic anhydride followed by refluxing with thionyl chloride. Various new poly(ester‐imide)s were prepared from 3 with different bisphenols by solution polycondensation in nitrobenzene using pyridine as hydrogen chloride quencher at 170°C. Inherent viscosities of the poly(ester‐imide)s were found to range between 0.31 and 0.35 dL g?1. All of the poly(ester‐imide)s, except the one containing pendent adamantyl group 5e, exhibited excellent solubility in the following solvents: N,N‐dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofuran, tetrachloroethane, dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, m‐cresol, o‐chlorophenol, and chloroform. The polymers showed glass‐transition temperatures between 166 and 226°C. The 10% weight loss temperatures of the poly(ester‐imide)s, measured by TGA, were found to be in the range between 415 and 456°C in nitrogen. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of novel poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s containing a lateral group via the random copolymerization of 4,4′‐biphenol, tert‐butylhydroquinone and 1,4‐bis(p‐fluorobenzoyl)benzene is described. The copolymers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and polarized optical microscopy (POM) observation. The results showed that the thermotropic liquid‐crystalline properties were achieved in the copolymers containing 30 mol% and 50 mol% tert‐butylhydroquinone, which have relatively lower melting temperatures due to the copolymerization effect. Both the crystalline–liquid‐crystalline transition (Tm) and the liquid‐crystalline–isotropic phase transition (Ti) were observable in the DSC thermograms, while the biphenol‐based poly(aryl ether ketone) has only one melting transition. The hydroquinone‐based polymer was shown to be amorphous. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results showed that these copolymers are all high‐temperature resistant with higher glass transition temperature between 147 and 149 °C, and higher decomposition temperature Td in the range 480–520 °C. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Novel aromatic poly(ether ketones) containing bulky lateral groups were synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4,4′‐biphenol and (4‐chloro‐3‐trifluoromethyl)phenylhydroquinone (CF‐PH) with 1,4‐bis(p‐fluorobenzoyl)benzene. The copolymers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and polarized light microscopy observation. Thermotropic liquid‐crystalline behavior was observed in the copolymers containing 40, 50, 60, and 70 mol % CF‐PH. The crystalline–liquid‐crystalline transition [melting temperature (Tm)] and the liquid‐crystalline–isotropic phase transition appeared in the DSC thermograms, whereas the biphenol‐based homopolymer had only a melting transition. The novel poly(aryl ether ketones) had glass‐transition temperatures that ranged from 143 to 151°C and lower Tm's that ranged from 279 to 291°C, due to the copolymerization. The polymers showed high thermal stability, and some exhibited a large range in mesophase stability. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 89: 1347–1350, 2003  相似文献

Sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)s (S‐PESs) were synthesized from sulfonated 4,4′‐dichlorodiphenylsulfone (S‐DCDPS), 4,4′‐dichlorodiphenylsulfone (DCDPS), and 4,4′‐biphenol through variations in the molar ratio of S‐DCDPS to DCDPS from 10/90 to 40/60. The S‐PES sodium form was characterized with Fourier transform infrared, 1H‐NMR, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and dynamic mechanical analysis, and the intrinsic viscosity and solubility were also evaluated. The sodium form was then subjected to acidification by immersion in 1.5M HCl for 24 h at room temperature, which was followed by washing with deionized water. The S‐PES adhesive properties were measured with single laboratory shear samples with aluminum alloys, and the failure mode was investigated. The synthesized S‐PESs exhibited increased glass‐transition temperatures with increased S‐DCDPS/DCDPS ratios; their acid forms provided much lower glass‐transition temperatures than their sodium forms. In addition, the S‐PES sodium form exhibited a high intrinsic viscosity, which indicated a high molecular weight. The S‐PES acid form exhibited an adhesion strength similar to that of the sodium form, and the single‐lap‐shear strength increased with 10% S‐PES and then decreased with 20, 30, and 40% S‐PES. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of anion exchange membranes (AEM) based on block quaternary ammonium poly(arylene ether sulfone) (QA‐bPAES) were successfully synthesized from 9,9′‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl) fluorene, 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphenol and 4,4′‐difluorodiphenyl sulfone via block polymerization, chloromethylation, quaternization, alkalization and solution casting. Properties of the obtained QA‐bPAES membranes, including ion exchange capacity (IEC), water uptake, swelling ratios, methanol permeability and ion conductivity were investigated. The obtained QA‐bPAES membranes showed low water uptakes, high ion conductivities and good physical and chemical stability. For example, the membrane of QA‐bPAES(20/10)‐1.34 with IEC of 1.34 mmol g−1 exhibited swelling ratios of 5.0% and 5.1% in in‐plane and through‐plane direction, respectively, and ion conductivity of 15.6 mS cm−1 in water at 60 °C with low methanol permeability of 1.06 × 10−7 cm2 s−1 (25 °C). All the results indicated that this type of block membranes had good potentials for alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cell applications.  相似文献

A series of macrocyclic(arylene sulfide) oligomers were synthesized by reaction of 4,4′‐oxybis(benzenethiol) with a number of difluoro compounds in dimethylformamide (DMF) in the presence of anhydrous K2CO3 under high dilution conditions. The difluoro compound can be 4,4′‐difluorobenzophenone, bis(4‐fluorophenyl)sulfone or 1,3‐bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)benzene. Detailed structural characterization of these oligomers by matrix‐assisted laser desorption and ionization‐time of flight‐mass spectroscopy (MALDI‐TOF‐MS) demonstrated their cyclic nature. The MALDI‐TOF‐MS technique has proved to be a powerful tool to analyze these cyclics. These cyclic oligomers are amorphous and highly soluble in DMF and N,N′‐dimethyl acetamide. Moreover, these cyclic(arylene sulfide) oligomers readily underwent ring‐opening polymerization in the melt at 285 °C in the presence of 2,2′‐dibenzothiazole disulfide, affording linear, high molecular weigh poly(aromatic sulfide)s. These polymers are insoluble in most common solvents. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Hydrolytically stable phosphorus-containing monomers, such as 4,4′-bis(fluorophenyl)methylphosphine oxide (BFPMPO), 4,4′-bis(hydroxyphenyl)methylphosphine oxide (BOHPMPO), and 4,4-bis(hydroxyphenyl)phenylphosphine oxide (BOHPPO), were synthesized and used in nucleophilic aromatic substitution poly-condensation to prepare poly(arylene ether phosphine oxide) engineering thermoplastics. The synthesis and characterization of these novel polymers are described. It was determined that by incorporating the phosphine oxide moiety into the polymer backbone, certain properties of the resulting poly(arylene ether) were substantially improved, such as an increase in Tg, thermal stability in air, modulus, and char yield compared with control poly(arylene ether sulfone)s. The high char yields obtained for these polymers in air along with observed intumescence indicates that these materials have improved fire resistance. Preliminary cone calorimetry measurements support this conclusion.  相似文献

A new diamine, 2,2′‐bis(3,4,5‐trifluorophenyl)‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl ether (FPAPE) was synthesized through the Suzuki coupling reaction of 2,2′‐diiodo‐4,4′‐dinitrodiphenyl ether with 3,4,5‐trifluorophenylboronic acid to produce 2,2′‐bis(3,4,5‐trifluorophenyl)‐4,4′‐dinitrodiphenyl ether (FPNPE), followed by palladium‐catalyzed hydrazine reduction of FPNPE. FPAPE was then utilized to prepare a novel class of highly fluorinated all‐aromatic poly(ether‐imide)s. The chemical structure of the resulting polymers is well confirmed by infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic methods. Limiting viscosity numbers of the polymer solutions at 25 °C were measured through the extrapolation of the concentrations used to zero. Mn and Mw of these polymers were about 10 000 and 25 000 g mol?1, respectively. The polymers showed a good film‐forming ability, and some characteristics of their thin films including color and flexibility were investigated qualitatively. An excellent solubility in polar organic solvents was observed. X‐ray diffraction measurements showed that the fluoro‐containing polymers have a nearly amorphous nature. The resulting polymers had Tg values higher than 340 °C and were thermally stable, with 10% weight loss temperatures being recorded above 550 °C. Based on the results obtained, FPAPE can be considered as a promising design to prepare the related high performance polymeric materials. Copyright © 2011 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A series of new poly(arylene ether sulfone phenyl-s-triazine) copolymers containing phthalazinone moieties in the main chain (PPESPs) were prepared by a direct solution polycondensation of 4-(4-hydroxylphenyl)(2H)-phthalazin-1-one (HPPZ) with 2-phenyl-4,6-bi(4-fluorophenyl)-1,3,5-triazine (BFPT) and 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCS). Model reactions monitored by HPLC indicated that BFPT had slightly higher reactivity than DCS in nucleophilic displacement reactions. The obtained random copolymers were characterized by FTIR, NMR, elemental analysis and GPC. The presence of sulfone and phthalazinone in the polymer chain results in an improvement in the solubility of poly(arylene ether phenyl-s-triazine)s in common organic solvents, such as N-methylpyrrolidone, N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc), chloroform, sulfolane and pyridine. Thermal analysis reveal that the copolymers exhibit high glass transition temperatures (Tgs) ranging from 271–300 °C, and excellent thermal stability associated with decomposition temperatures for 5% mass-loss exceeding 503 °C. All copolymers are amorphous except PPESP28 as evidenced by WAXD. Their Tgs and solubility increase with an increase in sulfone content in the polymer backbone, while the crystallinity and overall thermal stability appear to decrease. This kind of phthalazinone-based copoly(arylene ether sulfone phenyl-s-triazine)s may be considered a good candidate for using as high-performance structural materials.  相似文献

Aromatic polyesters are of considerable interest because of their excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance and thermal stability. However, most aromatic polyesters are difficult to process due to their high glass transition temperatures coupled with their insolubility in common organic solvents. The present article describes a series of organosoluble polyesters and copolyesters based on 1,1,1‐[bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4′‐pentadecylphenyl]ethane. A series of new aromatic polyesters containing pendant pentadecyl chains was synthesized by interfacial polycondensation of 1,1,1‐[bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4′‐pentadecylphenyl]ethane with terephthalic acid chloride (TPC), isophthalic acid chloride (IPC) and a mixture of TPC and IPC. A series of copolyesters was synthesized from 4,4′‐isopropylidenediphenol with TPC by incorporating 1,1,1‐[bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4′‐pentadecylphenyl]ethane as a comonomer. Inherent viscosities of the polyesters and copolyesters were in the range 0.72–1.65 dL g?1 and number‐average molecular weights were in the range 18 170–87 220. The polyesters and copolyesters containing pendant pentadecyl chains dissolved readily in organic solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane, pyridine and m‐cresol and could be cast into transparent, flexible and apparently tough films. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction data revealed the amorphous nature of the polyesters and copolyesters. The formation of loosely developed layered structure was observed due to the packing of pendant pentadecyl chains. The temperature at 10% weight loss, determined using thermogravimetric analysis in nitrogen atmosphere, of the polyesters and copolyesters containing pendant pentadecyl chains was in the range 400–460 °C. The polyesters and copolyesters exhibited glass transition temperatures in the range 63–82 °C and 177–183 °C, respectively. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Two new poly(arylene ethynylenes) were synthesized by the reaction of 1,4‐diethynyl‐2.5‐dioctylbenzene either with 4,4′‐diiodo‐3,3′‐dimethyl‐1,1′‐biphenyl or 2,7‐diiodo‐9,9‐dioctylfluorene via the Sonogashira reaction, and their photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) properties were studied. The new poly(arylene ethynylenes) were poly[(3,3′‐dimethyl‐1,1′‐biphenyl‐4,4′‐diyl)‐1,2‐ethynediyl‐(2,5‐dioctyl‐1,4‐phenylene)‐1,2‐ethynediyl] (PPEBE) and poly[(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl)‐1,2‐ethynediyl‐(2,5‐dioctyl‐1,4‐phenylene)‐1,2‐ethynediyl] (PPEFE), both of which were blue‐light emitters. PPEBE not only emitted better blue light than PPEFE, but it also performed better in EL than the latter when the light‐emitting diode devices were constructed with the configuration indium–tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonic acid) (50 nm)/polymer (80 nm)/Ca:Al. The device constructed with PPEBE exhibited an external quantum efficiency of 0.29 cd/A and a maximum brightness of about 560 cd/m2, with its EL spectrum showing emitting light maxima at λ = 445 and 472 nm. The device with PPEFE exhibited an efficiency of 0.10 cd/A and a maximum brightness of about 270 cd/m2, with its EL spectrum showing an emitting light maximum at λ = 473 nm. Hole mobility (μh) and electron mobility (μe) of the polymers were determined by the time‐of‐flight method. Both polymers showed faster μh values. PPEBE revealed a μh of 2.0 × 10?4 cm2/V·s at an electric field of 1.9 × 105 V/cm and a μe of 7.0 × 10?5 cm2/V·s at an electric field of 1.9 × 105 V/cm. In contrast, the mobilities of the both carriers were slower for PPEFE, and its μh (8.0 × 10?6 cm2/V·s at an electric field of 1.7 × 106 V/cm) was 120 times its μe (6.5 × 10?8 cm2/V·s at an electric field of 8.6 × 105 V/cm). The much better balance in the carriers' mobilities appeared to be the major reason for the better device performance of PPEBE than PPEFE. Their highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) levels were also a little different from each other. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four novel wholly para‐oriented aromatic polyamide‐hydrazides containing flexibilizing sulfone‐ether linkages in their main chains have been synthesized from 4‐amino‐3‐hydroxy benzhydrazide (4A3HBH) with either 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoyl chloride (SDBC), 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoyl chloride (SODBC), 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoyl chloride (4MeSODBC), or 4,4′‐(1,4‐phenylenedioxy)dibenzoyl chloride (ODBC) via a low‐temperature solution polycondensation reaction. A polyamide‐hydrazide without the flexibilizing linkages is also investigated for comparison. It was synthesized from 4A3HBH and terephthaloyl chloride (TCl) by the same synthetic route. The intrinsic viscosities of the polymer ranged from 2.85 to 4.83 dL g?1 in N,N‐dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) at 30°C and decreased with introducing the flexibilizing linkages into the polymer. All the polymers were soluble in DMAc, N,N‐dimethyl formamide (DMF), and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), and their solutions could be cast into films with good mechanical strengths. Further, they exhibited a great affinity to water sorption. Their solubility and hydrophilicity increased remarkably by introducing the flexibilizing linkages. The polymers could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazolyl‐benzoxazoles) approximately in the region of 295–470°C either in nitrogen or in air atmospheres. The flexibilizing linkages improve the solubility of the resulting poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazolyl‐benzoxazoles) when compared with poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazolyl‐benzoxazoles) free from these linkages. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
