In the large-scale Distributed Virtual Environment (DVE) multimedia systems, one of key challenges is to distributedly preserve causal order delivery of messages in real time. Most of the existing causal order control approaches with real-time constraints use vector time as causal control information which is closely coupled with system scales. As the scale expands, each message is attached a large amount of control information that introduces too much network transmission overhead to maintain the real-time causal order delivery. In this article, a novel Lightweight Real-Time Causal Order (LRTCO) algorithm is proposed for large-scale DVE multimedia systems. LRTCO predicts and compares the network transmission times of messages so as to select the proper causal control information of which the amount is dynamically adapted to the network latency variations and unconcerned with system scales. The control information in LRTCO is effective to preserve causal order delivery of messages and lightweight to maintain the real-time property of DVE systems. Experimental results demonstrate that LRTCO costs low transmission overhead and communication bandwidth, reduces causal order violations efficiently, and improves the scalability of DVE systems.  相似文献

Distributed scheduling (DS) is an approach that enables local decision makers to create schedules that consider local objectives and constraints within the boundaries of the overall system objectives. Local decisions from different parts of the system are then integrated through coordination and communication mechanisms. Distributed scheduling attracts the interest of many researchers from a variety of disciplines, such as computer science, economics, manufacturing, and service operations management. One reason is that the problems faced in this area include issues ranging from information architectures, to negotiation mechanisms, to the design of scheduling algorithms. In this paper, we provide a survey and a critical analysis of the literature on distributed scheduling. While we propose a comprehensive taxonomy that accounts for many factors related to distributed scheduling, we also analyse the body of research in which the scheduling aspect is rigorously discussed. The focus of this paper is to review the studies that concern scheduling algorithms in a distributed architecture, not, for example, protocol languages or database architectures. The contribution of this paper is twofold: to unify the literature within our scope under a common terminology and to determine the critical design factors unique to distributed scheduling and in relation to centralised scheduling.  相似文献

Distributed microflow sensor arrays and networks are built from collections of spatially scattered, intelligent microflow sensor nodes. They can enhance the reliability and fault tolerance of the system. A new cluster network architecture and two original alternatives of fault-tolerant time-out communication protocol are described. Teamwork integration evaluator/micro-electromechanical system, a micro-electromechanical system sensor network simulation tool, was developed to evaluate the effectiveness of the network architectures and communication protocols.  相似文献

Traditionally, optical channels are manually provisioned and exist for months or years. New automated means of managing network resources, together with demands for greater flexibility from the customers, have led to the concept of dynamic optical connections. However, over time, the establishment and removal of these connections in the presence of changing traffic demands can lead to inefficient exploitation of the underlying resources. The authors propose a novel dual-layered connection management system. Distributed, fast and simplified control plane functionalities are used at the lower layer to provide efficient real-time per-connection resource management. The time-consuming optimisation functions are located in a centralised upper layer where they are able to achieve more efficient solutions that can improve the overall network utilisation. The control of the lower layer by the upper level is carried out via two means, namely: influence-based path calculation for short-lived connections and intrusive redeployment for long-lived connections. Simulation results, under a variety of conditions, show an improvement in performance of over 10% in each of the metrics considered for both long-lived and short-lived connections for two commonly cited test networks. We therefore conclude that the proposed system can offer worthwhile improvements in network performance.  相似文献

Efficient water management is a major concern in many cropping systems in semiarid and arid areas. Distributed in-field sensor-based irrigation systemsoffer a potential solution to support site-specific irrigation management that allows producers to maximize their productivity while saving water. This paper describes details of the design and instrumentation of variable rate irrigation, a wireless sensor network, and software for real-time in-field sensing and control of a site-specific precision linear-move irrigation system. Field conditions were site-specifically monitored by six in-field sensor stations distributed across the field based on a soil property map, and periodically sampled and wirelessly transmitted to a base station. An irrigation machine was converted to be electronically controlled by a programming logic controller that updates georeferenced location of sprinklers from a differential Global Positioning System (GPS) and wirelessly communicates with a computer at the base station. Communication signals from the sensor network and irrigation controller to the base station were successfully interfaced using low-cost Bluetooth wireless radio communication. Graphic user interface-based software developed in this paper offered stable remote access to field conditions and real-time control and monitoring of the variable-rate irrigation controller.  相似文献
