In this paper, thermodynamic analysis and assessment of a novel geothermal energy based integrated system for power, hydrogen, oxygen, cooling, heat and hot water production are performed. This integrated process consists of (a) geothermal subsystem, (b) Kalina cycle, (c) single effect absorption cooling subsystem and (d) hydrogen generation and storage subsystems. The impacts of some design parameters, such as absorption chiller evaporator temperature, geothermal source temperature, turbine input pressure and pinch point temperature on the integrated system performance are investigated to achieve more efficient and more effective. Also, the impacts of reference temperature and geothermal water temperature on the integrated system performance are studied in detail. The energetic and exergetic efficiencies of the integrated system are then calculated as 42.59% and 48.24%, respectively.  相似文献

In this study, a new combined system driving a gas turbine cycle has been proposed for seven useful outputs of power, hydrogen, ammonia, heating-cooling, drying and hot water. The proposed integrated plant mainly consists of the gas turbine cycle, Rankine cycle, two organic Rankine cycles, ejector-based cooling, hydrogen production and liquefaction, ammonia production and storage, drying and hot water generation sub-systems. In order to demonstrate that the designed system is an efficient and environmentally plant, the performance analysis was performed by using a software package. Before performing the performance assessment of the plant, the mathematical model of the integrated plant is prepared in accordance with thermodynamic equations. Basic equilibrium equations are used for the thermodynamic equations used. Obtaining multiple useful outputs from the system also have the positive effect on the system effectiveness. The energetic effectiveness of integrated plant for multigeneration with hydrogen and ammonia production is computed to be 62.18% and exergetic efficiency is 58.37%. In addition, the energetic and exergetic effectiveness of hydrogen production and liquefaction process are 57.92% and 54.23%, respectively.  相似文献

In this study, an integrated multigeneration system that can produce hydrogen, electricity, heat, and methanol simultaneously is thermodynamically investigated. This integrated multigeneration system consists of three subsystems, namely: (i) electrolyzer, (ii) thermal power plant; and (iii) methanol production reactor. Energy and exergy analyses of all system components, as well as the sustainability analysis of the whole system, is performed thoroughly. The integrated system's thermodynamic performance is thoroughly investigated by changing some critical operational and environmental parameters in parametric studies. Based on the results of this study, recommendations for better energetic, exergetic, and environmental performance are presented for better sustainability. The results of this study show that the integrated multigeneration system is capable of producing hydrogen, heat, electricity, and methanol with overall energetic and exergetic efficiencies about 68% and 47%, respectively.  相似文献

In the present study, an innovative multigeneration plant for hydrogen and ammonia generation based on solar and biomass power sources is suggested. The proposed integrated system is designed with the integration of different subsystems that enable different useful products such as power and hydrogen to be obtained. Performance evaluation of designed plant is carried out using different techniques. The energetic and exergetic analyses are applied to investigate and model the integrated plant. The plant consists of the parabolic dish collector, biomass gasifier, PEM electrolyzer and hydrogen compressor unit, ammonia reactor and ammonia storage tank unit, Rankine cycle, ORC cycle, ejector cooling unit, dryer unit and hot water production unit. The biomass gasifier unit is operated to convert biomass to synthesis gaseous, and the concentrating solar power plant is utilized to harness the free solar power. In the proposed plant, the electricity is obtained by using the gas, Rankine and ORC turbines. Additionally, the plant generates compressed hydrogen, ammonia, cooling effect and hot water with a PEM electrolyzer and compressed plant, ammonia reactor, ejector process and clean-water heater, respectively. The plant total electrical energy output is calculated as 20,125 kW, while the plant energetic and exergetic effectiveness are 58.76% and 55.64%. Furthermore, the hydrogen and ammonia generation are found to be 0.0855 kg/s and 0.3336 kg/s.  相似文献

In this paper, the thermodynamic study of a combined geothermal power-based hydrogen generation and liquefaction system is investigated for performance assessment. Because hydrogen is the energy of future, the purpose of this study is to produce hydrogen in a clear way. The results of study can be helpful for decision makers in terms of the integrated system efficiency. The presented integrated hydrogen production and liquefaction system consists of a combined geothermal power system, a PEM electrolyzer, and a hydrogen liquefaction and storage system. The exergy destruction rates, exergy destruction ratios and exergetic performance values of presented integrated system and its subsystems are determined by using the balance equations for mass, energy, entropy, energy and exergy and evaluated their performances by means of energetic and exergetic efficiencies. In this regard, the impact of some design parameters and operating conditions on the hydrogen production and liquefaction and its exergy destruction rates and exergetic performances are investigated parametrically. According to these parametric analysis results, the most influential parameter affecting system exergy efficiency is found to be geothermal source temperature in such a way that as geothermal fluid temperature increases from 130 °C to 200 °C which results in an increase of exergy efficiency from 38% to 64%. Results also show that, PEM electrolyzer temperature is more effective than reference temperature. As PEM electrolyzer temperature increases from 60 °C to 85 °C, the hydrogen production efficiency increases from nearly 39% to 44%.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an integrated system aiming for hydrogen production with by-products using geothermal power as a renewable energy source. In analyzing the system, an extensive thermodynamic model of the proposed system is developed and presented accordingly. In addition, the energetic and exergetic efficiencies and exergy destruction rates for the whole system and its parts are defined. Due to the significance of some parameters, the impacts of varying working conditions are also investigated. The results of the energetic and exergetic analyses of the integrated system show that the energy and exergy efficiencies are 39.46% and 44.27%, respectively. Furthermore, the system performance increases with the increasing geothermal source temperature and reference temperature while it decreases with the increasing pinch point temperature and turbine inlet pressure.  相似文献

In this study, an integrated system is proposed for mainly electricity and hydrogen production. Energy and exergy analyses of the system are also examined by using Engineering Equation Solver (EES, version 2019) under solar radiation during day time on 1st July. The proposed system consists of a middle-temperature geothermal source with fluid temperature 93 °C, three solar collectors (SCs of 300 m2) namely parabolic trough solar collectors (PTSCs), evacuated tube solar collectors (ETSCs), flat plate solar collectors (FPSCs), an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), proton exchange membrane (PEM), a compressor, hot water storage tank and a mushroom cultivation room. The temperature of the geothermal fluid is upgraded via solar collectors by harvesting solar radiation to operate the ORC. Thus the generated electricity is used in the PEM electrolysis system for producing hydrogen. When the PTSCs, ETSCs, and FPSCs are integrated with the geothermal source separately, it is found that 2758.69 g, 1585.27 g, and 634.42 g of hydrogen can be produced, respectively for a day. The highest overall energetic and exergetic performance of the system is calculated as to be 5.67% and 7.49%, respectively.  相似文献

In this study, energy and exergy analyses are carried out for the charging period of an ice-on-coil thermal energy storage system. The present model is developed using a thermal resistance network technique. First, the time-dependent variations of the predicted total stored energy, mass of ice, and outlet temperature of the heat transfer fluid from a storage tank are compared with the experimental data. Afterward, performance of an ice-on-coil type latent heat thermal energy storage system is investigated for several working and design parameters. The results of a comparative study are presented in terms of the variations of the heat transfer rate, total stored energy, dimensionless energetic/exergetic effectiveness and energy/exergy efficiency. The results indicate that working and design parameters of the ice-on-coil thermal storage tank should be determined by considering both energetic and exergetic behavior of the system. For the current parameters, storage capacity and energy efficiency of the system increases with decreasing the inlet temperature of the heat transfer fluid and increasing the length of the tube. Besides, the exergy efficiency increases with increasing the inlet temperature of the heat transfer fluid and increasing the length of the tube.  相似文献

In this paper, a new renewable energy-based cogeneration system for hydrogen and electricity production is developed. Three different methods for hydrogen production are integrated with Rankine cycle for electricity production using solar energy as an energy source. In addition, a simple Rankine cycle is utilized for producing electricity. This integrated system consists of solar steam reforming cycle using molten salt as a heat carrier, solar steam reforming cycle using a volumetric receiver reactor, and electrolysis of water combined with the Rankine cycle. These cycles are simulated numerically using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) based on the thermodynamic analyses. The overall energetic and exergetic efficiencies of the proposed system are determined, and the exergy destruction and entropy generation rates of all subcomponents are evaluated. A comprehensive parametric study for evaluating various critical parameters on the overall performance of the system is performed. The study results show that both energetic and exergetic efficiencies of the system reach 28.9% and 31.1%, respectively. The highest exergy destruction rates are found for the steam reforming furnace and the volumetric receiver reforming reactor (each with about 20%). Furthermore, the highest entropy generation rates are obtained for the steam reforming furnace and the volumetric receiver reforming reactor, with values of 174.1 kW/K and 169.3 kW/K, respectively. Additional parametric studies are undertaken to investigate how operating conditions affect the overall system performance. The results report that 60.25% and 56.14% appear to be the highest exergy and energy efficiencies at the best operating conditions.  相似文献

In this article, a thermodynamic investigation of solar power tower assisted multigeneration system with hydrogen production and liquefaction is presented for more environmentally-benign multigenerational outputs. The proposed multigeneration system is consisted of mainly eight sub-systems, such as a solar power tower, a high temperature solid oxide steam electrolyzer, a steam Rankine cycle with two turbines, a hydrogen generation and liquefaction cycle, a quadruple effect absorption cooling process, a drying process, a membrane distillation unit and a domestic hot water tank to supply hydrogen, electrical power, heating, cooling, dry products, fresh and hot water generation for a community. The energetic and exergetic efficiencies for the performance of the present multigeneration system are found as 65.17% and 62.35%, respectively. Also, numerous operating conditions and parameters of the systems and their effects on the respective energy and exergy efficiencies are investigated, evaluated and discussed in this study. A parametric study is carried out to analyze the impact of various system design indicators on the sub-systems, exergy destruction rates and exergetic efficiencies and COPs. In addition, the impacts of varying the ambient temperature and solar radiation intensity on the irreversibility and exergetic performance for the present multigeneration system and its components are investigated and evaluated comparatively. According to the modeling results, the solar irradiation intensity is found to be the most influential parameter among other conditions and factors on system performance.  相似文献

This paper investigates the performance of a hydrogen refueling system that consists of a polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyzer integrated with photovoltaic arrays, and an electrochemical compressor to increase the hydrogen pressure. The energetic and exergetic performance of the hydrogen refueling station is analyzed at different working conditions. The exergy cost of hydrogen production is studied in three different case scenarios; that consist of i) off-grid station with the photovoltaic system and a battery bank to supply the required electric power, ii) on-grid station but the required power is supplied by the electric grid only when solar energy is not available and iii) on-grid station without energy storage. The efficiency of the station significantly increases when the electric grid empowers the system. The maximum energy and exergy efficiencies of the photovoltaic system at solar irradiation of 850 W m-2 are 13.57% and 14.51%, respectively. The exergy cost of hydrogen production in the on-grid station with energy storage is almost 30% higher than the off-grid station. Moreover, the exergy cost of hydrogen in the on-grid station without energy storage is almost 4 times higher than the off-grid station and the energy and exergy efficiencies are considerably higher.  相似文献

In this study, the energetic and exergetic efficiencies of a salt gradient cylindrical solar pond (SGCSP) that integrated and nonintegrated evacuated tube solar collectors (ETSCs) are investigated to improve daily heat preservation performance of the heat storage zone (HSZ). The integrated system is consisted of an SGCSP and four ETSCs. The SGCSP has a surface area of 2 m2, a depth of 1.65 m, salty water layers at different densities, and HSZ in which the cylindrical serpentine type heat exchanger (CSHE) is located. Thus, the daily effects of the heat storage performance of both the ETSCs and the SGCSP in the winter season was determined experimentally. The analysis of the data regarding the efficiencies of the system is investigated separately by means of experimental studies where the SGCSP is integrated and nonintegrated with the ETSCs. The number of ETSCs integrated with SGCSP is increased to 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively, and each of the five different experimental systems is performed separately. The temperature distributions of the integrated system are measured by a data acquisition system on 11 different points per hour. The efficiencies are calculated using the data obtained from these studies. Consequently, the energetic and exergetic efficiencies of the SGCSP are obtained without collectors as 10.4% and 4.3% and with one collector as 12.83% and 6.15%, with two collectors 14.88% and 8.25%, with three collectors 16% and 9.35%, and finally with four collectors 16.94% and 10.3%, respectively. Furthermore, the theoretical efficiencies are found to be consistent with the experimental results obtained by increasing the collector numbers.  相似文献

In this paper, a fuel cell power generation system fed by hydrogen is analyzed by different performance criteria over the entire range of potential operating conditions. First law efficiency and net power output are considered for conventional energetic indices of performance, and exergy destruction rate is taken into consideration as an exergetic performance criteria. A new exergetic criterion called the exergetic performance coefficient (EPC) is introduced and is applied to the system model based on zero-dimensional approach. The system model consists of the following components: fuel cell stack, afterburner, fuel and air compressors, and heat exchangers. The effects of the operating conditions on the system performance are studied parametrically. The obtained results based on the exergetic performance coefficient criterion are compared with first law efficiency, power output and exergy destruction rate. Results show that design insights of fuel cell systems can be considerably improved when conventional energetic analyses are supplemented with EPC criterion.  相似文献

The development of efficient long-term heat storage systems could significantly increase the use of solar thermal energy for building heating. Among the different heat storage technologies, the absorption heat storage system seems promising for this application. To analyze the potential of this technology, a numerical model based on mass, species, energy, and exergy balances has been developed. The evolution over time of the storage imposes a transient approach. Simulations were performed considering temperature conditions close to those of a storage system used for space heating coupled to solar thermal collectors (as the heat source), with ground source heat exchangers (as the cold source). The transient behavior of the system was analyzed in both the charging and discharging phases. This analysis highlights the lowering of energetic and exergetic performance during both phases, and these phenomena are discussed. The thermal efficiency and the energy storage density of the system were determined, equal to 48.4 % and 263 MJ/m3, respectively. The exergetic efficiency is equal to 15.0 %, and the exergy destruction rate is 85.8 %. The key elements in terms of exergy destruction are the solution storage tank, the generator, and the absorber. The impact of using a solution heat exchanger (SHX) was studied. The risk of the solution crystallizing in the SHX was taken into account. With a SHX, the thermal efficiency of the system can reach 75 %, its storage density was 331 MJ/m3, and its exergetic efficiency and exergy destruction rate was 23.2 and 77.3 %, respectively.  相似文献

In present study, hydrogen production performance of chlor-alkali cell integrated into a power generation system based on geothermal resource is studied. The basic elements of the novel system are a separator, a steam power turbine, an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), an air cooled condenser, a saturated NaCl solution reservoir tank and a chlor-alkali cell. To enhance the performance of the cell, the saturated NaCl solution is heated by the waste heat from the ORC. So, this integrated system generates significant amount of electricity for the city grid and also yields three main products those are hydrogen, chlorine and sodium hydroxide. According to the parametric study, when the temperature of a geothermal resource varies from 140 to 155 °C, the electrical power generation increases from nearly 2.5 MW to 3.9 MW and hydrogen production increases from 10.5 to 21.1 kg-h. Thus, when the geothermal resource temperature of 155 °C, the energy efficiency of the system is 6.2% and the exergetic efficiency is 22.4%. As a result, the geothermal energy potential plays a key role on the integrated system performance and the hydrogen production rate.  相似文献

In this paper, a parametric study of the triple effect absorption cooling system (TEACS) integrated with solar photo-voltaic/thermal (PV/T), geothermal, and Linde–Hampson cycle is conducted. The effect of different operating parameters on the COPs, ratio ‘n’, amount of hydrogen gas pre-cooled, amount of hydrogen liquefied, and utilization factor of the integrated system are studied. It is found that when mass flow rate of air increases the energetic and exergetic COPs decrease in an exponential form from 2.6 to 1.9, and 0.4 to 0.3, respectively. The amounts of hydrogen gas pre-cooled and hydrogen liquefied decrease from 0.39 kg/s to 0.32 kg/s and 0.082 kg/s and 0.066 kg/s, respectively with increase in mass flow rate of air. Moreover, the amounts of hydrogen gas pre-cooled and hydrogen liquefied decrease from 0.42 to 0.27, and 0.088 to 0.066, respectively with increase in mass flow rate of geothermal. In addition, energetic and exergetic utilization factors of integrated system decrease from 0.059 to 0.037, and 0.21 and 0.13, respectively with increase in mass flow rate of geothermal.  相似文献

In this study, the detailed thermodynamic assessment of an integrated process based on heat pipe evacuated tube solar collectors for hydrogen production is provided for more efficiently process designs. An integrated process consists of the solar heat pipe collector, photovoltaic panels, PEM electrolyzer and Linde-Hampson hydrogen liquefaction process are considered and analyzed thermodynamically for hydrogen production and liquefaction aims. The energetic and exergetic efficiencies of this integrated process are calculated as 0.2297 and 0.1955, respectively. Based on the parametric study, the effectiveness of the solar energy based integrated process is also highly dependent on the solar flux and ambient conditions.  相似文献

Energy and exergy analyses are reported of hydrogen production via an ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) system coupled with a solar-enhanced proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer. This system is composed of a turbine, an evaporator, a condenser, a pump, a solar collector and a PEM electrolyzer. Electricity is generated in the turbine, which is used by the PEM electrolyzer to produce hydrogen. A simulation program using Matlab software is developed to model the PEM electrolyzer and OTEC system. The simulation model for the PEM electrolyzer used in this study is validated with experimental data from the literature. The amount of hydrogen produced, the exergy destruction of each component and the overall system, and the exergy efficiency of the system are calculated. To better understand the effect of various parameters on system performance, a parametric analysis is carried out. The energy and exergy efficiencies of the integrated OTEC system are 3.6% and 22.7% respectively, and the exergy efficiency of the PEM electrolyzer is about 56.5% while the amount of hydrogen produced by it is 1.2 kg/h.  相似文献

In this paper we study an integrated PV/T absorption system for cooling and hydrogen production based on U.A.E weather data. Effect of average solar radiation for different months, operating time of the electrolyzer, air inlet temperature and area of the PV module on power and rate of heat production, energy and exergy efficiencies, hydrogen production and energetic and exergetic COPs are studied. It is found that the overall energy and exergy efficiency varies greatly from month to month because of the variation of solar radiation and the time for which it is available. The highest energy and exergy efficiencies are obtained for the month of March and their value is 15.6% and 7.9%, respectively. However, the hydrogen production is maximum for the month of August and its value is 9.7 kg because in august, the solar radiation is high and is available for almost 13 h daily. The maximum energetic and exergetic COPs are calculated to be 2.28 and 2.145, respectively and they are obtained in the month of June when solar radiation is high for the specified cooling load of 15 kW.  相似文献

This study examines the exergetic sustainability effect of PEM electrolyzer (PEME) integrated high pressure hydrogen gas storage system whose capacity is 3 kg/h. For this purpose, the indicators, previously used in the literature, are taken into account and their variations are parametrically studied as a function of the PEME operating pressure and storage pressure by considering i) PEME operating temperature at 70 °C, ii) PEME operating pressures at 10, 30, 50 and 100 bar, iii) hydrogen gas flow rate at 3 kg/h and iv) storage pressure between 200 and 900 bar. Consequently, the results from the parametric investigation indicate that, with the ascent of storage pressure from 200 to 900 bar at a constant PEME operating pressure (=50 bar), exergetic efficiency changes decreasingly between 0.612 and 0.607 while exergetic sustainability between 1.575 and 1.545. However, it is estimated that waste exergy ratio changes increasingly between 0.388 and 0.393 while environmental effect factor between 0.635 and 0.647. Additionally, it is said that the higher PEME outlet pressure causes the higher exergetic sustainability index, the lower environmental effect factor, the lower waste exergy output, the higher exergetic efficiency. However, the higher storage pressure causes the lower exergetic efficiency, the higher waste exergy output, the higher environmental effect factor and the lower exergetic sustainability index. Thus, it is recommended that this type of the system should be operated at higher PEME outlet pressure, and at an optimum hydrogen storage pressure.  相似文献
