The thermoelastic bending analysis of functionally graded ceramic–metal sandwich plates is studied. The governing equations of equilibrium are solved for a functionally graded sandwich plates under the effect of thermal loads. The sandwich plate faces are assumed to have isotropic, two-constituent material distribution through the thickness, and the modulus of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio of the faces, and thermal expansion coefficients are assumed to vary according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic ceramic material. Several kinds of sandwich plates are used taking into account the symmetry of the plate and the thickness of each layer. Field equations for functionally graded sandwich plates whose deformations are governed by either the shear deformation theories or the classical theory are derived. Displacement functions that identically satisfy boundary conditions are used to reduce the governing equations to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. The influences played by the transverse normal strain, shear deformation, thermal load, plate aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, and volume fraction distribution are studied. Numerical results for deflections and stresses of functionally graded metal–ceramic plates are investigated.  相似文献

The three-dimensional impact behaviours of functionally graded (FG) circular plates were studied under a drop-weight. The functionally graded circular plate was composed of ceramic (SiC) and metal (Al) phases and the through-thickness mechanical properties through the region between the metal and ceramic layers vary continuously according to a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the ceramic. The through-thickness material properties of the FG circular plate were determined using the Mori–Tanaka scheme. The effects of layer number and compositional gradient exponent as well as impactor velocity and plate radius on the elastic impact response of the FG circular plates were investigated. The compositional gradient exponent, impactor velocity and plate radius played an important role on the impact response of the FG circular plates, whereas the layer number through the plate thickness had a minor effect. In addition, the failure strains in all layers were determined using Tamura–Tomota–Ozowa (TTO) model in order to predict the damage regions in each layer through the thickness of FG circular plates.  相似文献

In this paper, the wave propagation and transient response of an infinite functionally graded plate under a point impact load are presented. The effective material properties of functionally graded materials (FGMs) for the plate are assumed to vary continuously through the plate thickness and be distributed according to a volume fraction power law along the plate thickness. Based on the higher-order shear deformation theory and considering the effect of the rotary inertia, the governing equations of the wave propagation in the functionally graded plate are derived by using the Hamilton’s principle. The analytic dispersion relation of the functionally graded plate is obtained by means of integral transforms and a complete discussion of dispersion for the functionally graded plate is given. Then, using the dispersion relation and integral transforms, exact integral solutions for the functionally graded plate under a point impact load are obtained. The transient response curves of the functionally graded plates are plotted and the influence of volume fraction distributions on transient response of functionally graded plates is analyzed. Finally, the solutions of the higher-order shear deformation theory and the first-order shear deformation theory are studied.  相似文献

Buckling analysis of perfect circular functionally graded plates with surface-bounded piezoelectric layers based on the first-order shear deformation theory is presented in this article. The material properties of the functionally graded (FG) layer are assumed to vary continuously through the plate thickness by distribution of power law of the volume fraction of the constituents. The plate is assumed to be under constant electrical field and two types of thermal loadings, namely, the uniform temperature rise and nonlinear temperature gradient through the thickness. Also, the stability of a plate under radial mechanical compressive force is examined. The equilibrium and stability equations are derived based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory using a variational approach. The boundary condition of the plate as an immovable type of the clamped edge is considered. Resulting equations are employed to obtain the closed-form solution for the critical buckling temperature for each loading case. The effects of electric field, piezo-to-host thickness ratio, and power law index of functionally graded plates subjected to thermo-mechanical-electrical loads are investigated. The results are compared with the classical plate theory and verified with the available data in the open literature.  相似文献

In this study three-dimensional elastic stress state of an adhesively bonded single lap joint with functionally graded adherends in tension was investigated. The adherends compose of a functionally gradient layer between a pure ceramic (Al2O3) layer and a pure metal (Ni) layer. Stress concentrations are observed along the free edges of the adhesive layer and through the corresponding zones in the upper and lower adherends. The adhesive layer experiences stress concentrations along the left and right free edges in the horizontal plane, and the normal stresses and the shear stress σxy are critical. Whereas the middle overlap region has a uniform low stress distribution the zones in the upper adherend corresponding to the left free edge of the adhesive layer and the zones in the lower adherend corresponding to the right free edge of the adhesive layer are subjected to higher stresses. The normal stress σxx among the normal stresses and the shear stress σxy among the shear stresses are dominant in both upper and lower adherends. The normal stress σxx changes uniformly from compression in the ceramic layer to tension in the metal layer through the upper plate-thickness and from tension in the ceramic layer to compression in the metal layer through the lower plate-thickness. In the adhesive layer, the normal stress σyy becomes peak at the left free edge of the upper adherend–adhesive interface and at the right free edge of the lower adherend–adhesive interface and then decreases uniformly across the adhesive layer towards the other adherend–adhesive interface. The functionally gradient region across the adherend thickness was modelled using the layers with the mechanical properties calculated based on the power law. However, a layer number larger than 20 has a minor effect on the through-thickness profiles and magnitudes of von Mises and normal stresses in both the adherends and the adhesive. In addition, increasing the ceramic phase in the material composition (compositional gradient exponent n) of the functionally gradient region does not affect the through-thickness profiles of von Mises and normal stresses in the adherends and adhesive whereas their magnitudes in the ceramic rich layer of both adherends and along the adherend–adhesive interfaces increase considerably. On the contrary, the layer number and compositional gradient exponent have an evident effect on the through-thickness profiles and magnitudes of the critical stress components in the adherends and adhesive layer of the functionally graded adhesively bonded joints.  相似文献

Nonlinear thermal bending analysis is presented for a simply supported, shear deformable functionally graded plate without or with piezoelectric actuators subjected to the combined action of thermal and electrical loads. Heat conduction and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the plate surface and varied in the thickness direction and the electric field considered only has non-zero-valued component EZ. The material properties of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents, and the material properties of both FGM and piezoelectric layers are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The governing equations of an FGM plate are based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory that includes thermo-piezoelectric effects. A two step perturbation technique is employed to determine the thermal load–deflection and thermal load–bending moment curves. The numerical illustrations concern nonlinear bending response of FGM plates without or with surface bonded piezoelectric actuators due to heat conduction and under different sets of electric loading conditions. The results reveal that for the case of heat conduction the nonlinear thermal bending responses are quite different to those of FGM plates subjected to transverse mechanical loads, and the temperature-dependency of FGMs could not be neglected in the thermal bending analysis.  相似文献

In this paper, the mechanical buckling of a functionally graded nanocomposite rectangular plate reinforced by aligned and straight single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) subjected to uniaxial and biaxial in-plane loadings is investigated. The material properties of the nanocomposite plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction and vary continuously and smoothly according to two types of the symmetric carbon nanotubes volume fraction profiles. The material properties of SWCNT are determined according to molecular dynamics (MDs), and then the effective material properties at a point are estimated by either the Eshelby–Mori–Tanaka approach or the extended rule of mixture. The equilibrium and stability equations are derived using the Mindlin plate theory considering the first-order shear deformation (FSDT) effect and variational approach. The results for nanocomposite plate with uniformly distributed CNTs, which is a special case in the present study, are compared with those of the symmetric profiles of the CNTs volume fraction. A numerical study is performed to investigate the influences of the different types of compressive in-plane loadings, CNTs volume fractions, various types of CNTs volume fraction profiles, geometrical parameters and different types of estimation of effective material properties on the critical mechanical buckling load of functionally graded nanocomposite plates.  相似文献

A thermal buckling analysis is presented for functionally graded rectangular plates that are integrated with surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators and are subjected to the combined action of thermal load and constant applied actuator voltage. The temperature-dependent material properties of the functionally graded plate are assumed to vary as a power form of the thickness coordinate. Derivation of the equations is based on the third-order shear deformation plate theory. Results for the critical buckling temperatures are obtained in closed-form solution, which are convenient to be used in engineering design applications. The effects of the applied actuator voltage, plate geometry, and volume fraction exponent of the functionally graded material on the buckling temperature are investigated.  相似文献

Compressive postbuckling under thermal environments and thermal postbuckling due to a uniform temperature rise are presented for a simply supported, shear deformable functionally graded plate with piezoelectric fiber reinforced composite (PFRC) actuators. The material properties of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents, and the material properties of both FGM and PFRC layers are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory that includes thermo-piezoelectric effects. The initial geometric imperfection of the plate is taken into account. A two step perturbation technique is employed to determine buckling loads (temperature) and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the compressive and thermal postbuckling behaviors of perfect and imperfect, geometrically mid-plane symmetric FGM plates with fully covered or embedded PFRC actuators under different sets of thermal and electric loading conditions. The results for monolithic piezoelectric actuator, which is a special case in the present study, are compared with those of PFRC actuators. The results reveal that, in the compressive buckling case, the applied voltage usually has a small effect on the postbuckling load–deflection curves of the plate with PFRC actuators, whereas in the thermal buckling case, the effect of applied voltage is more pronounced for the plate with PFRC actuators, compared to the results of the same plate with monolithic piezoelectric actuators.  相似文献

Here, asymmetric free vibration characteristics and thermoelastic stability of functionally graded circular plates are investigated using finite element procedure. A three-noded shear flexible plate element based on the field-consistency principle is used. Temperature field is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the plate surface and varied in thickness direction only. Material properties are graded in the thickness direction according to simple power law distribution. For the numerical illustrations, aluminum/alumina is considered as functionally graded material. The variation in critical buckling load is highlighted considering gradient index, temperature, radius-to-thickness ratios, circumferential wave number and boundary condition of the plate.  相似文献

In the present work, the flexural and vibration response of a functionally graded plate resting on Pasternak elastic foundation is analyzed using a recently developed nonpolynomial higher-order shear and normal deformation theory by the authors. The novelty of this theory is that it contains only four unknowns and also accommodates the thickness stretching effect. Two kinds of micromechanics models, namely, the Voigt and Mori–Tanaka models, are considered. Material properties of the functionally graded plates are assumed to vary continuously in the thickness direction according to either a simple power law or an exponential law. Finite element formulation is done using C° continuous Lagrangian quadrilateral nine-noded elements with eight degrees of freedom per node. The equations of motion are derived using a variational approach. Convergence and comparison studies are carried out to establish the authenticity and reliability of the solutions. The effect of various boundary conditions, geometric conditions, micromechanics models, and foundation parameters on the flexural and vibration response of the functionally graded plate are investigated.  相似文献

The sinusoidal shear deformation plate theory is used to study the thermal buckling of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates. This theory includes the shear deformation and contains the higher- and first-order shear deformation theories and classical plate theory as special cases. Material properties and thermal expansion coefficient of the sandwich plate faces are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic material. Several kinds of symmetric sandwich plates are presented. Stability equations of FGM sandwich plates include the thermal effects. The thermal loads are assumed to be uniform, linear and non-linear distribution through-the-thickness. Numerical examples cover the effects of the gradient index, plate aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, loading type and sandwich plate type on the critical buckling for sandwich plates.  相似文献

This paper presents a study of the bending of an isotropic functionally graded plate under localised transverse load through a combination of analytical and computational means. The analytical modelling is based on the recently developed three-dimensional elasticity solution, expanded to cover different loading types, whilst the Finite Element model uses graded isoparametric elements. The plate under consideration is assumed to be simply supported, with Young’s and shear moduli varying exponentially through the thickness and the Poisson’s ratio constant. Comparative analysis of stress and displacement fields in functionally graded and homogeneous plates subjected to uniformly distributed and patch loadings is carried out.  相似文献

In this paper, free vibration behavior of functionally nanoplate resting on a Pasternak linear elastic foundation is investigated. The study is based on third-order shear deformation plate theory with small scale effects and von Karman nonlinearity, in conjunction with Gurtin–Murdoch surface continuum theory. It is assumed that functionally graded (FG) material distribution varies continuously in the thickness direction as a power law function and the effective material properties are calculated by the use of Mori–Tanaka homogenization scheme. The governing and boundary equations, derived using Hamilton's principle are solved through extending the generalized differential quadrature method. Finally, the effects of power-law distribution, nonlocal parameter, nondimensional thickness, aspect of the plate, and surface parameters on the natural frequencies of FG rectangular nanoplates for different boundary conditions are investigated.  相似文献

The propagation of guided waves in continuous functionally graded plates is studied by using Legendre polynomials. Dispersion curves, and power and field profiles are easily obtained. Our computer program is validated by comparing our results against other calculations from the literature. Numerical results are also given for a graded semiconductor plate. It is felt that the present method could be of quite practical interest in waveguiding engineering, non-destructive testing of functionally graded materials (FGMs) to identify the best inspection strategies, or by means of a numerical inversion algorithm to determine through-thickness gradients in material parameters  相似文献

In this article, thermal buckling analysis of moderately thick functionally graded annular sector plate is studied. The equilibrium and stability equations are derived using first order shear deformation plate theory. These equations are five highly coupled partial differential equations. By using an analytical method, the coupled stability equations are replaced by four decoupled equations. Solving the decoupled equations and satisfying the boundary conditions, the critical buckling temperature is found analytically. To this end, it is assumed that the annular sector plate is simply supported in radial edges and it has arbitrary boundary conditions along the circular edges. Thermal buckling of functionally graded annular sector plate for two types of thermal loading, uniform temperature rise and gradient through the thickness, are investigated. Finally, the effects of boundary conditions, power law index, plate thickness, annularity and sector angle on the critical buckling temperature of functionally graded annular sector plates are discussed in details.  相似文献

A refined shear deformation theory for free vibration of functionally graded plates on elastic foundation is developed. The displacement field is chosen based on assumptions that the in-plane and transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components, and the shear components of in-plane displacements give rise to the parabolic variation of shear strain through the thickness in such a way that shear stresses vanish on the plate surfaces. Therefore, there is no need to use shear correction factor. Material properties of functionally graded plate are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The elastic foundation is modeled as Pasternak foundation. Equations of motion are derived using Hamilton’s principle. Closed-form solution of rectangular plates is derived, and the obtained results are compared well with three-dimensional elasticity solutions and third-order shear deformation theory solutions. Finally, the influences of power law index, thickness ratio, foundation parameter, and boundary condition on the natural frequency of plates have been investigated.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical solution to the static analysis of functionally graded plates, using a recently developed higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and provides detailed comparisons with other HSDT’s available in the literature. These theories account for adequate distribution of the transverse shear strains through the plate thickness and tangential stress-free boundary conditions on the plate boundary surfaces, thus a shear correction factor is not required. The mechanical properties of the plates are assumed to vary in the thickness direction according to a power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The governing equations of a functionally graded (FG) plate and boundary conditions are derived by employing the principle of virtual work. Navier-type analytical solution is obtained for FG plates subjected to transverse bi-sinusoidal and distributed loads for simply supported boundary conditions. Results are provided for thick to thin FG plates and for different volume fraction distributions. The accuracy of the present code is verified by comparing it with known results in the literature.  相似文献
