The advantages of photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collectors and low solar concentration technologies are combined into a photovoltaic/thermal system to increase the solar energy conversion efficiency. This paper presents a prototype 11X concentration rate and two axis tracking system. The main novelty is the coupling of a linear Fresnel concentrator with a channel photovoltaic/thermal collector. An analytical model to simulate the thermal behaviour of the prototype is proposed and validated. Measured thermal performance of the solar system gives values above 60%. Theoretical analysis confirms that thermal conduction between the PV cells and the absorber plate is a critical parameter.  相似文献

A solar/gas cooling plant at the Engineering School of Seville (Spain) was tested during the period 2008-2009. The system is composed of a double-effect LiBr + water absorption chiller of 174 kW nominal cooling capacity, powered by: (1) a pressurized hot water flow delivered by mean of a 352 m2 solar field of a linear concentrating Fresnel collector and (2) a direct-fired natural gas burner. The objective of the project is to indentify design improvements for future plants and to serve as a guideline. We focused our attention on the solar collector size and dirtiness, climatology, piping heat losses, operation control and coupling between solar collector and chiller. The daily average Fresnel collector efficiency was 0.35 with a maximum of 0.4. The absorption chiller operated with a daily average coefficient of performance of 1.1-1.25, where the solar energy represented the 75% of generator’s total heat input, and the solar cooling ratio (quotient between useful cooling and insolation incident on the solar field) was 0.44.  相似文献

In the last decade, no comprehensive numerical and experimental analyses have been performed to find the maximum possible power generation from a concentrated photovoltaic thermal (CPV/T) system by varying the flow rate of the fluid. This paper describes numerical and experimental studies of a U-shaped solar energy collector model of a CPV/T system, with the goal of determining the maximal thermal and electrical power outputs against a specific volumetric flow rate also called an optimum flow rate. The CPV/T system was based on the union of 8 triple junction solar cells, 8 SOG Fresnel lenses, effective dual-axis tracking, and a forced cooling system. Analyses were performed by changing the flow rate of the working fluid at a considered solar irradiation and ambient temperature. The thermal and electrical power outputs also varied with changes in the ambient temperature and available solar radiation. The relatively high value of CPV/T power was observed against the optimum flow rate at a given irradiation and ambient temperature. Analysis of the energy of the U- shaped solar energy collector system was evaluated experimentally. The numerical results and experimental measurements of the U-shaped solar energy collector model showed great harmony, with minimal deviations of <7% between them.  相似文献

In Mexico efforts are being made to promote the use of solar energy for cooling in the Agro-Food Industries (AFI), 120 industries were contacted in order to assess the solar cooling potential application in the sector. One case study was selected among the visited potential end users according to the size of the facility, the information available and their willingness to collaborate in the present project. Data from the industry was used to select the appropriate solar cooling concept and therefore the collector’s typology, and the absorption cooling system. Moreover, the operation of the system was simulated in order to define the optimal size of the collector field required. The proposed cooling system was composed by a Fresnel concentrating collector field to activate a series of air cooled single-effect ammonia–water absorption chillers. The cooling system simulation was carried out with the Transient Systems Simulation Programme (TRNSYS) which allowed to model the collector system that fulfill the required load. The calculated saved electricity was around 19% of the total consumption, this small fraction is due to the fact that the selected facility is operating continuously with very large refrigeration capacities. The specifications of the simulated solar cooling system are presented.  相似文献

A ray tracing model for the compound parabolic collector (CPC) is presented in this work. The pertinent parameters for the compound parabolic thermal solar collector are analyzed and calculated, and the ray tracing model is further investigated. The ray tracing model is validated by comparing our ray tracing model results with a commercial optical software. Each ray is traced by the CPC model, so the incident angle is calculated when solar ray enters the absorption tube. The ray tracing model was applied to the thermal efficiency analysis of the CPC, and the thermal performance results obtained by the model and test results were compared.  相似文献

In order to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of daylighting, an innovative parabolic trough solar lighting and thermal (PTL/T) system is designed and analyzed in this paper. Parabolic trough solar lighting and thermal system uses parabolic trough collector (PTC) controlled by two‐axis solar tracking system as solar collector. The collected sunlight is split by a cold mirror into visible light and infrared. The visible light is reflected by cold mirror, re‐concentrated by a second‐stage Fresnel lens, and then delivered by plastic optical fiber to the buildings for daylighting. The infrared goes through cold mirror, reaches thermal system, and is used for heating generation. The basic structure of PTL/T was outlined and described. The dimension of fiber bundle and parabolic trough was chosen after an optimal analysis. The cost of illuminating unit area was expressed as a function of illumination space dimensions and critical components efficiency. A case study was conducted to get a specific optimized illumination area and PTC area for the first time. The optimized result is to use 8‐m2 PTC as collector to illuminate 500‐m2 office space. The total solar energy utilization efficiency is 39.4%, with the lighting efficiency of 16.3% and thermal efficiency of 23.1%. The maximum energy savings and simple payback period were calculated for 10 typical cities when applied in residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. The amounts of greenhouse gas‐emission reductions were also calculated. The payback period in Sunbelt region is as low as less than 10 years like in Los Angeles. The results show the proposed PTL/T system is competitive compared with traditional solar energy systems. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A linear Fresnel lens (LFL) designed according to Fermat's principle is slightly modified with respect to used technology for mass production from glass. Manufactured Fresnel lenses are used in a fully tracking concentrating collector with aperture about 36 m2 and in a collector with stationary concentrator and movable absorber, which may serve as solar collector with temperature and illumination control. A combination of linear Fresnel lenses with PV cells may reduce cost of autonomous solar installations.  相似文献

Despite its attractiveness, solar cooling technology is still in an early stage of development. Most installations currently in operation show differences in the collector area per kilowatt of cooling capacity that cannot be explained only by project-specific circumstances. The purpose of this paper was twofold. First, to answer some questions that came up during the design process of the plant by using a TRNSYS system model and statistical tools. Second, to gain knowledge about the plant operation and validate the TRNSYS model through measured data. The system was equipped with a flat-plate collector field of 38.4 m2. A lithium bromide-water single-effect absorption chiller (17.6 kW) was selected in order to provide chilled water to fan-coils. Performance data were registered at the solar plant working with a 1000-l heat storage tank and a required temperature of 80 °C to drive the absorption machine. An average of 29% of the solar energy incident on the solar collectors’ surface was transferred to the hot water storage. The registered average COP of the absorption chiller was 0.691. The performance data were compared with the values predicted by the TRNSYS plant model and a high level of agreement was obtained.  相似文献

A solar-driven 10-ton LiBr/H2O single-effect absorption cooling system has been designed and installed at the School of Renewable Energy Technology (SERT), Phitsanulok, Thailand. Construction took place in 2005, after which this system became fully operational and has been supplying cooling for our main testing building's air-conditioning. Data on the system's operation were collected during 2006 and analyzed to find the extent to which solar energy replaced conventional energy sources. Here, we present these data and show that the 72 m2 evacuated tube solar collector delivered a yearly average solar fraction of 81%, while the remaining 19% of thermal energy required by the chiller was supplied by a LPG-fired backup heating unit. We also show that the economics of this cooling system are dominated by the initial cost of the solar collector array and the absorption chiller, which are significantly higher than that of a similar-size conventional VCC system.  相似文献

The main objective of this work is the investigation and improvement of thermal performance of evacuated CPC (Compound Parabolic Concentrator) solar collector with a cylindrical absorber. Modified types of this solar collector are always combined with the evacuated glass envelop or tracking system. The conventional stationary CPC solar collector has been compared with the single axis tracking CPC solar collector in outlet temperature, net heat flux onto the absorber and thermal efficiency. Numerical model has been analyzed based on the irradiation determined actually and the results have been calculated to predict the thermal efficiency. Based on the comparison of the measured and calculated results, it is concluded that the numerical model can accurately estimate the performance of solar collectors. The result shows the thermal efficiency of the tracking CPC solar collector is more stable and about 14.9% higher than that of the stationary CPC solar collector.  相似文献

Solar thermal power plants are presently the cheapest technology for solar electricity production. Today, level electricity costs of 15 ct/kWh are achievable at good sites with high levels of direct normal irradiation. Nevertheless, further cost reductions are necessary to make solar thermal power plants economically feasible. One possibility for a further cost reduction might be the use of so-called Linear Fresnel Collectors in solar thermal power plants. Preliminary cost estimates of this option show that this is a promising potential for cost reduction. The technical feasibility of the linear Fresnel collector has to be checked in theoretical studies as well as during the operation of a life-sized prototype under real solar conditions. This paper presents results of preliminary theoretical studies regarding the thermal load of the absorber tube used in a linear Fresnel collector with a secondary concentrator.  相似文献

An absorption heat pump (AHP) is a heat driven heat pump utilizing the absorption process. A continuous, liquid absorbent AHP with chemical storage is modeled using mass and energy balances and assuming mass transfer equilibrium. This model is used with the TRNSYS program [5] to simulate the performance of an AHP in a residential solar-driven heating and cooling system. The effects of collector area for an AHP using the NaSCN---NH3 chemical system are investigated for the Columbia, MO, Madison, WI, and Fort Worth, TX climates. The AHP system is compared to a conventional solar heating and cooling system and the effects of heat exchanger effectiveness, storage mass, additional thermal capacitance and alternative control strategies are studied for the Columbia climate.  相似文献

Solar thermal driven cooling systems for residential applications are a promising alternative to electric compression chillers, although its market introduction still represents a challenge, mainly due to the higher investment costs. The most common system configuration is an absorption chiller driven by a solar thermal system, backed up by a secondary heating source, normally a gas boiler. Heat storage in the primary (solar) circuit is mandatory to stabilize and extend the operation of the chiller, whereas a cold storage tank is not so common. This paper deals with the selection of the most suitable configuration for residential cooling systems with solar energy. In Spain, where cooling needs are usually higher than heating needs, the interest of a reversible heat pump as auxiliary system and a secondary cooling storage are analyzed.A complete TRNSYS model has been developed to compare a configuration with just hot storage (of typical capacity 40 L/m2 of solar collector surface) and a configuration with both, hot and cool storages. The most suitable configuration is very sensible to the solar collector area. As the collector area increases, the advantages of a cool storage vanish. Increasing the collector area tends to increase the temperature of the hot storage, leading to higher thermal losses in both the collector and the tank. When the storage volume is concentrated in one tank, these effects are mitigated. The effect of other variables on the optimal configuration are also analyzed: collector efficiency curve, COP of the absorption chiller, storage size, and temperature set-points of the chillers.  相似文献

This paper resents a thermal simulation of the Colorado State University solar house. A computer model of the solar energy system was developed and computer runs were made using one year of meteorological data to determine the important design features. The system consists of a flat plate solar collector, main storage tank, service hot water storage tank, auxiliary heater, absorption air conditioner with cooling tower and heat exchangers between the collector and storage, storage and service hot water tank and storage and residence. This system very closely models the CSU house in operating mode one.The results are in the form of monthly integrated values for the pertinent energy quantities. In addition, results are presented which show the effect on the system performance of the collector tilt, collector area and number of covers.  相似文献

The solar chimney power plant is a simple solar thermal power plant that is capable of converting solar energy into thermal energy in the solar collector. In the second stage, the generated thermal energy is converted into kinetic energy in the chimney and ultimately into electric energy using a combination of a wind turbine and a generator. The purpose of this study is to conduct a more detailed numerical analysis of a solar chimney power plant. A mathematical model based on the Navier-Stokes, continuity and energy equations was developed to describe the solar chimney power plant mechanism in detail. Two different numerical simulations were performed for the geometry of the prototype in Manzanares, Spain. First, the governing equations were solved numerically using an iterative technique. Then, the numerical simulation was performed using the CFD software FLUENT that can simulate a two-dimensional axisymmetric model of a solar chimney power plant with the standard k-epsilon turbulence model. Both the predictions were compared with the available experimental data to assess the validity of the model. The temperature, velocity and pressure distributions in the solar collector are illustrated for three different solar radiations. Reasonably good quantitative agreement was obtained between the experimental data of the Manzanares prototype and both the numerical results.  相似文献

A mathematical model for predicting thermal efficiency, heat gain, and outlet air temperature of a covered plate attic solar collector under steady conditions was developed. The model presented in this paper utilizes the basic principles and relationships of heat transfer to simulate the behavior of the solar air heaters under various conditions. The model was validated by comparing the predicted outlet air temperatures and collector efficiencies to those measured during drying operation of an attic solar collector. The effect of the air speed inside the collector and wind speed above the collector on the collector efficiency were investigated using the mathematical model.  相似文献

Solar radiation is a clean form of energy, which is required for almost all natural processes on earth. Solar-powered air-conditioning has many advantages when compared to a conventional electrical system. This paper presents a solar cooling system that has been designed for Malaysia and similar tropical regions using evacuated tube solar collectors and LiBr absorption unit. The modeling and simulation of the absorption solar cooling system is carried out with TRNSYS program. The typical meteorological year file containing the weather parameters for Malaysia is used to simulate the system. The results presented show that the system is in phase with the weather, i.e. the cooling demand is large during periods that the solar radiation is high. In order to achieve continuous operation and increase the reliability of the system, a 0.8 m3 hot water storage tank is essential. The optimum system for Malaysia's climate for a 3.5 kW (1 refrigeration ton) system consists of 35 m2 evacuated tubes solar collector sloped at 20°.  相似文献

The fixed mirror solar collector (FMSC) fixes reflector and mobiles receiver to collect solar energy. However, this type of concentrator has a low efficiency and short operating duration in practical applications. In this paper, we propose to install the FMSC on an azimuth tracking device (ATFMSC) and the reflectors are arranged by intermission to avoid the shading of neighbor reflector for incidence angle of less than 10° to improve its optical performance. Through the integration of the reflected solar radiation distribution function over any reflection point, and then the whole collector aperture, we develop the analytical expressions of various system efficiencies to numerically simulate the performance of ATFMSC with evacuated tube receiver in different design parameters. It is validated by the ray tracing results. The result shows that the mean annual net heat efficiency of the whole system would be up to 61% with the operating temperature of 400 °C, which is higher than parabolic trough collector and traditional FMSC. This is because the longitudinal incidence angle of ATFMSC always remains zero by tracking the sun azimuth, so the end loss of the concentrator can be avoided and enables it to operate with high efficiency continually.
