The thermal expansion coefficient () and isothermal compressibility ( T ) of TlIn1 – x Nd x Se2(0 x 0.08) crystals were measured between 77 and 400 K. In the range 77–160 K, both and T increase with temperature, the increase in being much steeper. At higher temperatures, and T change very little. The observed composition dependences of and T are interpreted in terms of energy-band structure.  相似文献

Ductile L20-type wires and+L12-type duplex wires with high strengths and large elongation in the Ni-Al-Fe and Ni-Al-Co ternary systems have been manufactured directly from the liquid state by an in-rotating-water spinning method. The wire diameter was in the range 80 to 180m and the average grain size was 2 to 4m for the wires and 0.2 to 1.0m for the+ wires. y, f and p of the wires were found to be about 360 to 760 MPa, 560 to 960 MPa, and 0.2 to 5.5%, respectively, for the Ni-Al-Fe system, those of the+ wires were about 395 to 660 MPa, 670 to 1285 MPa, and 3.5 to 17%, respectively, for the Ni-Al-Fe system, and about 260 to 365 MPa, 600 to 870 MPa, and 4.0 to 7.0%, respectively, for the Ni-Al-Co system. Cold-drawing caused a significant increase in y and f and the values attained were about 1850 and 2500 MPa, respectively, for Ni-20Al-30Fe and Ni-25Al-30Co wires drawn to about 90% reduction in area. The high strengths, large elongation and good cold-workability of the melt-quenched and+ compound wires have been inferred to be due to the structural change into a low-degree ordered state containing a high density of phase boundaries, suppression of grain-boundary segregation and refinement of grain size.  相似文献

The viscosity of liquid 3 He has been measured along the melting curve from 1 to 100 mK by means of a vibrating wire viscometer. In the normal Fermiliquid region we find 1/T2 = 1.17–3.10T, where is in P and T in K. At the transition temperature T A = 2.6 mK a rapid decrease occurs in n , the viscosity of the normal component. Within 0.3 mK below T A , n decreases to about 25% of A, but then becomes essentially constant. In the B phase n first decreases to 20% of A and then seems to increase below 1.4 mK. Data on n , the density of the normal component, are also presented in the A and B phases. The results show that viscous flow is accompanied by a flow of zero dissipation, thus proving superfluidity in the A and B phases. The viscosity data at magnetic fields up to 0.9T have been related to theoretical calculations of the energy gap of superfluid 3 He near T A . The splitting of the A transition and the suppression of the B phase in an external field were also measured.  相似文献

Shallow cavity flows driven by horizontal temperature gradients are analysed over a range of Rayleigh numbersR and Prandtl numbers , whereR is comparable in size to the aspect ratioL(1). Eigenvalue calculations show the existence of a critical Prandtl number R > R c (), below which the parallel core-flow structure is destroyed for Rayleigh numbersR>R c(). For other Rayleigh numbers and Prandtl numbers the horizontal scale of influence of the end walls of the cavity is determined.  相似文献

Martensitic transformations in Ti-Mo alloys   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
A detailed investigation has been made of the structure of alloys of the Ti-Mo system containing up to 10wt% Mo, water-quenched from the-phase region. With increase in molybdenum content, the martensite structure changes from hexagonal () to orthorhombic () at 4 wt% Mo, and at 10 wt% Mo, the structure is completely retained . For alloy compositions <4 wt% Mo, there is a diffusional component in the transformation of the -phase at the quench rates employed. There is a transition, with increase in molybdenum content, in morphology (from massive to acicular) and in substructure (from dislocations to twins). However, the transitions in crystallography, morphology and sub-structure are not directly related to one another except for an abrupt loss of dislocation substructure at the/ transition. The to crystallographic transition has the characteristics of a second order transformation, and evidence has been obtained of the existence of a spinodal within the metastable orthorhombic system. The orthorhombic martensites of Ti-6 and 8 wt% Mo decompose during quenching producing a fine modulated structure within the martensite plates, consistent with a proposed spinodal mode of decomposition.  相似文献

The athermal transformation in Zr-2 at.% Nb alloy has been investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Analysis of the selected-area diffraction pattern has shown that the orientation relationships between the omega and the parent-phase in quenched Zr-2 at.% Nb alloy are the same as have been previously observed for the reaction in pure zirconium. Thus it was deduced that the direct transition has taken place in the alloy during cooling. The-originated -particles were visualized using the dark-field technique. The formation of the athermal omega in the-region of-stabilized Zr-Nb alloy is discussed in terms of the relative positions of the free energy equilibrium curvesT 0 ,T 0 ,T 0 and the correspondingM s ,M s andT s start curves. It is concluded that the omega phase can occur over a much wider range of alloy compositions than is usually recognized on the basis of transformation data.  相似文献

An investigation is reported of the 75 at% nickel section of the Ni-Cr-Al-Ru system at 1523 and 1273 K. Constitutional data obtained by electron probe microanalysis, X-ray diffraction and microscopical examination are presented as partial isothermal sections. At 1523 K, the major part of the section consists of phase, while the aluminium-rich region contains a and+ region; the extent of the solid solution of chromium and ruthenium in totals ~ 4 at%. The ruthenium-rich corner of the section shows a two-phase region consisting of + ruthenium-rich solid solution. At 1273 K the,+ and + ruthenium regions increase in extent. The/ mismatch values in the equilibrated alloys studied lie in the range ~ –0.08 to –0.39%. Constitutional features of as-cast alloys are also reported.  相似文献

The strength of a nickel-based superalloy hardened through precipitation is related to the volume fraction, particle size and distribution of the precipitated phase, . These parameters may vary as a result of heat treatment, or high-temperatures service. The information obtained, describing the influence of time and temperature on the precipitated phase, , is of special importance owing to its technological application at high temperatures. Dissolution or precipitation kinetics are such that the volume-fraction balance of the phase is quickly established at an ageing temperature given by successive changes due only to the particle growth. The results of the present study describe heat-treatment effects on size and distribution of the phase, and precipitated carbides ageing of a nickel-based superalloy (IN-713C). These on ageing studies at a certain temperature show that the kinetic growth of particles by controlled diffusion follows that r t 1/3 law.  相似文献

Novel microwave absorption and dispersion measurements have been performed on well-characterized single-crystal platelets of the high-T c superconductor YBa2Cu3O7–x . The results are explained in terms of the rapid variation of the penetration depth near and belowT c . Since EPR measurements are very sensitive to small changes in absorption and dispersion, this technique should be very useful in the understanding of the transition temperature region in both new and old superconducting materials.  相似文献

We have measured the long time (t = 5 to 200 h) heat release of Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and Polystyrene (PS) at 70 mK T 300 mK. After cooling from a charging temperature of 80 K the heat release in PMMA shows a t–1 dependence in the measured time and temperature ranges in agreement with the tunneling model. In contrast, for PS we observe strong deviations from at –1 dependence and a factor of ten smaller heat release than in PMMA in apparent contradiction to specific heat and thermal conductivity data for PS. To compare the heat release with other low temperature properties and to verify the consistency of the tunneling model we have measured also the acoustical properties (sound velocity and attentuation), the specific heat and the thermal conductivity of PMMA and PS in the temperature range 70mKT 100 mK, 70mKT200 mK and 0.3 KT4K, respectively. We show that the anomalous time dependence of the heat release of PS is due to the thermally activated relaxation of energy states with excitation energies above 15 K.  相似文献

A comprehensive analytical theory is presented for non-hysteretic RF SQUIDs operating in the adiabatic mode in the presence of large thermal fluctuations. When 1 ( = 2LIc/0 is the hysteresis parameter, L is the SQUID inductance, Ic is the critical current of the Josephson junction, and 0 is the flux quantum) the theory is applicable also for RF SQUIDs operating in the non-adiabatic mode. In contrast to previous theories in which the noise is treated perturbatively and which therefore are applicable only if the product 1 ( = 2kBT/ 0 Ic is the noise parameter, kB is the Boltzmann constant, and T is the absolute temperature)—the case of small thermal fluctuations—the present theory is valid for around unity or higher. In the limit 0 the theory reproduces the results of small thermal fluctuations theories. It has been found that in the presence of large thermal fluctuations the screening current in the SQUID inductance is suppressed by a factor that increases with increasing . Taking into account this new basic fact, all SQUID characteristics (output signal, transfer function, noise spectral density and energy sensitivity) have been recalculated and a good agreement with experimental data has been obtained. It has been also found that RF SQUIDs can be operated with substantially higher values of the inductance and of the noise parameter than DC SQUIDs. These two aspects, which are of particular importance at liquid nitrogen temperature, make high Tc RF SQUIDs very attractive.  相似文献

The magnetic susceptibility of high-resistivity CdTeIn and CdTeCl crystals was measured between 4.2 and 300 K. The susceptibility was found to vary anomalously with temperature. Below 50 K, all the samples were paramagnetic. The observed anomalies are interpreted in terms of donor–acceptor pairs formed by native defects and dopant or uncontrolled impurity atoms. The effect of doping on the 300-K is related to the Van Vleck paramagnetic contribution resulting from the local electric fields of XiV Cdand IniV Cddefect complexes. In CdTeCl, this contribution is insignificant.  相似文献

Thin specimens of reaction sintered and hot pressed silicon nitride have been prepared by ion beam thinning and examined in the Harwell million volt microscope. It has been found that reaction sintered material consists of large grains, which are mostly-Si3N4, in a fine grained matrix of-Si3N4. Fibres are frequently observed within the pores, the type of fibre depending on the size of the pore. The hot pressed material consists largely of two types of grain, small angular grains of-Si3N4 and larger irregular grains. There is also some non-crystalline material between the angular grains and there are numerous small unidentified inclusions.The grains of-Si3N4 generally contain dislocations and examination of these shows that most have a 0001 Burgers vector. The remaining dislocations appear to be more complex, frequently occurring as multiple images, and have not been unambiguously identified. An analysis of dislocations in-Si3N4 shows that 0001 dislocations are the most stable and are also likely to be most mobile with {10¯10} as the primary slip plane.  相似文献

The singularity in the vapor-liquid interfacial tension, (T), of helium at the transition to superfluidity is analyzed theoretically. The universal amplitude ratio R + =K+( 0 + )d–1/k B T , where K+ and K are the amplitudes of the |T–T|µ singularity in , with =1.34 3 , is known from recent work to first order in =4–d for the general n-vector model in d dimensions. Extrapolation to d=3 for n=2 indicates R + =0.05–0.08, which is shown to be consistent with the experimental data. Further analysis of the experiments establishes that the universal ratio Q=K+/K exceeds 0.35, and is consistent with the recent prediction Q0.9; this demonstrates the inadequacies of earlier theoretical treatments. The existence in the observed surface tension of an anomalous, negative contribution of unknown origin at a few millikelvin beneath T is stressed.  相似文献

The dynamic Young's modulus (EL) and loss tangent (tan L ) along the grain, dynamic shear modulus (GL) and loss tangent (tan S) in the vertical section, and density () of a hundred spruce wood specimens used for the soundboards of musical instruments were determined. The relative acoustic conversion efficiency ( ) and a ratio reflecting the anisotropy of wood (, (EL/GL)(tan S/tan L)) were defined in order to evaluate the acoustic quality of wood along the grain. There was a positive correlation between and , and the variation in was larger than that in . It seemed logical to evaluate the acoustic quality of spruce wood by a measure of . By using a cell wall model, those acoustic factors were expressed with the physical properties of the cell wall constituents. This model predicted that the essential requirement for an excellent soundboard is smaller fibril angle of the cell wall, which yields higher and higher . On the other hand, the effects of chemical treatments on the and of wood were clarified experimentally and analyzed theoretically. It was suggested that the and of wood cannot be improved at the same time by chemical treatment.  相似文献

The interaction between a dislocation and the impurity in KCl: Mg2+ (0.035 mol% in the melt) was investigated at 77–178 K with respect to the two models: one is the Fleischer's model and the other the Fleischer's model taking account of the Friedel relation. The latter is termed the F-F. The dependence of strain-rate sensitivity due to the impurities on temperature for the specimen was appropriate to the Fleischer's model than the F-F. Furthermore, the activation enthalpy, H, for the Fleischer's model appeared to be nearly proportional to the temperature in comparison with the F-F. The Friedel relation between effective stress and average length of the dislocation segments is exact for most weak obstacles to dislocation motion. However, above-mentioned results mean that the Friedel relation is not suitable for the interaction between a dislocation and the impurity in the specimen. Then, the value of H(T c) at the Fleischer's model was found to be 0.61 eV. H(T c) corresponds to the activation enthalpy for overcoming of the strain field around the impurity by a dislocation at 0 K. In addition, the Gibbs free energy, G 0, concerning the dislocation motion was determined to be between 0.42 and 0.48 eV on the basis of the following equation ln / = G 0/(kTp0)1 – (T/T c)1/2 –1(T/T c)1/2 + ln 0/where k is the Boltzmann's constant, T the temperature, T c the critical temperature at which the effective stress due to the impurities is zero, p0 the effective shear stress without thermal activation, and 0 the frequency factor.  相似文献

From the second-sound velocityU 2 near the superfluid transition point, the superfluid densities in3He-4He mixtures, s (X) and s (), were deduced along the paths of constant3He concentrationX and of constant chemical potential difference of3He and4He. The following critical exponents of s are determined: (a) =XX for s (X) in the(X, T) plane,(b) X for s (X) in the(, T) plane, and(c) for s () in the(, T) plane. It is found that and X change by about 4–6% relative to with increasing3He concentration up toX=0.4 and by 8–10% up toX=0.53. It seems that, belowX=0.53, universality hold for . Values of have been found to be in good agreement with the critical exponent of s in pure4He under constant pressure. The values of and X forX0.53 are also found to be consistent with the scaling relations in the (,T) plane of3He-4He mixture.Work performed in part while at the Electrotechnical Laboratory.  相似文献

Pressure-induced metal-semiconductor transitions in bismuth-antimony alloys in a strong magnetic field (up to 70 kOe) at helium temperatures have been investigated. It is found that for values of the overlap-gap |G|1 meV the alloy forms an excitonic insulator (EI) in magnetic fields above a certain threshold (30–40 kOe). It is inferred that the EI energy gap increases with the magnetic field. The maximum gap observed in fields of 70 kOe turns out to be 007.5 K. An analysis of the results shows that transitions to the EI phase are observed from both the semimetal and the semiconducting states. The critical transition temperatureT c is related to the EI gap by the expressionT c0.7. Arguments are advanced in support of the fact that the formation of the EI phase involves the pairing of electrons at theL point with holes at theT point.  相似文献
