In this paper we present an extension of an existing system, called SaxEx, capable of generating expressive musical performances based on Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) techniques. The previous version of SaxEx used pre-fixed criteria within the different CBR steps and, therefore, there was no room for user interaction. This paper discusses the necessity of user interaction during the CBR process and how this decision enhances the capabilities and the usability of the system. The set of evaluation experiments conducted show the advantages of SaxEx's new interactive functionality, particularly for future educational applications of the system.  相似文献

Emergency preparedness enables us to effectively handle sudden environmental events. In previous research, we have proposed to develop environmental emergency preparedness systems employing Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) technology, though developing such a CBR system has been stifled by a deficiency of cases and difficulties of case adaptation. In this paper, an Improved Genetic Algorithm (IGA) is put forward to resolve the issue of adaptability, and thus simultaneously overcoming the deficiency of cases.First we introduce the Frame method, which creates a case representation in accordance with the characteristics of, for instance, a sudden chemical leakage event and the system’s preparedness for treating this case. Then we present the principle of genetic algorithm (GA) for case adaptation. Next, we introduce an Improved Genetic Algorithm (IGA) that achieves case adaptation in the CBR system. The IGA overcomes simplex GA (SGA)’s defects including premature and slow convergence rate, and also enhances search efficiency for globally optimal solutions. The IGA employs technologies including the Multi-Factor Integrated Fitness Function, the Multi-Parameter Cascade Code method, the Small Section method for generation of an initial population, and Niche technology for genetic operations including selection, crossover, and mutation. The results of SGA and IGA performance testing are also presented. A prototype CBR-IGA environmental emergency preparedness system is developed and introduced, and its applicability is tested using a hypothetical ammonia leakage emergency in one district of Shanghai. The results indicate that the proposed IGA methodology can resolve the adaptation issue and expand the case base effectively in CBR systems for environmental emergency preparedness. Future research opportunities are discussed, including the potential to combine CBR, GA, and Back Propagation-Artificial Neural Network (BP-ANN) to alleviate additional challenges, such as the “speed and accuracy” of environmental emergency response.  相似文献

Accurate prediction of construction cost in the initial phase of a construction project is critical to the success of the project. Accordingly, many researchers have proposed various methodologies for predicting the cost in the initial phase with the use of limited information. This study was aimed at improving the prediction performance of a cost prediction model based on the Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) technique, which has recently become widely used. Toward this end, an improved CBR model that uses the Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) technique in the revision phase of the CBR technique was developed. To verify the prediction performance of the proposed model, a case study was performed on 41 business facilities and 99 multi-family housing projects. The results showed that the prediction performance of the revised CBR model for business facilities and multi-family housings improved by 17.23% and 4.39%, respectively, compared to that of the existing CBR model. The proposed MRA-based revised CBR model is expected to be useful in estimating the construction cost in the initial phase of a project.  相似文献

Traditional approaches for similarity-based retrieval of structured data, such as Case-Based Reasoning (CBR), have been largely implemented using centralized storage systems. In such systems, when the cases contain both numeric and free-text attributes, similarity-based retrieval cannot exploit standard speedup techniques based on multi-dimensional indexing, and the retrieval is implemented by an exhaustive comparison of the case to be solved with the whole set of stored cases. In this work, we review current research on Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and distributed CBR techniques and propose a novel approach for storage of the case-base in a decentralized Peer-to-Peer environment using the notion of Unspecified Ontology to improve the performance of the case retrieval stage and build CBR systems that can scale up to large case-bases. We develop an algorithm for efficient retrieval of approximated most-similar cases, which exploits inherent characteristics of the unspecified ontology in order to improve the performance of the case retrieval stage in the CBR problem solving cycle. The experiments show that the algorithm successfully retrieves cases close to the most-similar cases, while reducing the number of cases to be compared. Hence, it improves the performance of the retrieval stage. Moreover, the distributed nature of our approach eliminates the computational bottleneck and single point of failure of the centralized storage systems.  相似文献

Software debugging (the diagnosis and repair of faults in software) can be a difficult and time consuming problem. In many cases a problem which can take an inexperienced developer a long time to correct can be quickly identified and corrected by a more experienced one. This is often because they have seen that problem (or a similar one) before. In this paper we present a system (called WATSON) which automatically constructs an explanation of the fault and a repair strategy from a library of partial repair models. This system exploits Case Based Reasoning (CBR) technology to perform this construction. The paper introduces the concepts behind CBR before going on to describe the components of the WATSON system. It then illustrates, by example, how WATSON constructs a diagnosis and repair model from the case databases.  相似文献
