By starting from a steady flow configuration based on the work of Deng et al. [Qi-Hong Deng, Jiemin Zhou, Chi Mei, Yong-Ming Shen, Fluid, heat and contaminant transport structures of laminar double-diffusive mixed convection in a two-dimensional ventilated enclosure, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 47 (2004) 5257–5269], a numerical investigation was conducted to analyse the unsteady double-diffusive mixed convection in two-dimensional ventilated room due to heat and contaminant sources. Owing to the large number of parameters, the results are reported only for a constant buoyancy ratio N equal to 1. The flow is found to be oscillatory for a fixed Reynolds number (700  Re  1000) when the Grashof number is varied in a wide range (103  Gr  106). Results of the simulations show that the onset of the oscillatory indoor airflow occurs for couples (Re, Gr) values that can be correlated as Re = aGrb.  相似文献

In this article, double-diffusive mixed convection in a vertical pipe under local thermal non-equilibrium state has been investigated. The non-Darcy Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended model has been used and solved numerically by spectral collocation method. Special attention is given to understand the effect of buoyancy ratio (N) and thermal non-equilibrium parameters: inter phase heat transfer coefficient (H) as well as porosity scaled thermal conductivity ratio (γ) on the flow profiles as well as on rates of heat and solute transfer. Judged from the influence of buoyancy ratio on velocity profile, when both the buoyancy forces: thermal as well as solutal are in favor of each other and for given any value of H considered in this study, it has been found that for N equal to 10 as well as 100, the basic velocity profile shows back flow for small subdomain of the domain of the flow. When two buoyancy forces are opposing to each other (RaT = ?1000), velocity profile possesses a kind of distortion, in which the number of zeroes increases on increasing N. Corresponding variation of heat transfer rate in the (N,  Nuf)-plane shows a sinusoidal pattern. The flow separation on the flow profile dies out on increasing H for N = 0. It has been also found that for each N, when N < 0.7, there exists a minimum value of H such that the velocity profile becomes free from flow separation. Influence of H on the profiles of solid temperature as well as solute, in both situations are similar. Overall, the impact of LTNE parameters, specially γ, on heat transfer rate of double-diffusive convection is not straight forward.  相似文献

Natural convection in an air filled enclosure with a localized nonuniform heat source mounted centrally on the bottom wall is numerically investigated. The vertical walls are cooled while the top wall and the remaining portions of the bottom wall are insulated. The heat source is assumed to be isothermal with a linearly varying temperature. The governing equations were solved using finite volume method on a uniformly staggered grid system. The computational results are presented in the form of isotherm and streamline plots and Nusselt numbers. The effects of the source nonuniformity parameter, λ and the line source length, ε are investigated for the Grashof numbers Gr = 106 and 107. It is found that for Gr = 106 nonuniform heating of the line source enhances the overall heat transfer rate markedly compared to uniform heating of the heat source whereas for Gr = 107 its effect is marginal.  相似文献

A penalty finite element method based simulation is performed to analyze the influence of various walls thermal boundary conditions on mixed convection lid driven flows in a square cavity filled with porous medium. The relevant parameters in the present study are Darcy number (Da = 10?5 ? 10?3), Grashof number (Gr = 103 ? 105), Prandtl number (Pr = 0.7–7.2), and Reynolds number (Re = 1–102). Heatline approach of visualizing heat flow is implemented to gain a complete understanding of complex heat flow patterns. Patterns of heatlines and streamlines are qualitatively similar near the core for convection dominant flow for Da = 10?3. Symmetric distribution in heatlines, similar to streamlines is observed irrespective of Da at higher Gr in natural convection dominant regime corresponding to smaller values of Re. A single circulation cell in heatlines, similar to streamlines is observed at Da = 10?3 for forced convection dominance and heatlines are found to emanate from a large portion on the bottom wall illustrating enhanced heat flow for Re = 100. Multiple circulation cells in heatlines are observed at higher Da and Gr for Pr = 0.7 and 7.2. The heat transfer rates along the walls are illustrated by the local Nusselt number distribution based on gradients of heatfunctions. Wavy distribution in heat transfer rates is observed with Da ? 10?4 for non-uniformly heated walls primarily in natural convection dominant regime. In general, exponential variation of average Nusselt numbers with Grashof number is found except the cases where the side walls are linearly heated. Overall, heatlines are found to be a powerful tool to analyze heat transport within the cavity and also a suitable guideline on explaining the Nusselt number variations.  相似文献

Entropy generation during the mixed convection process have been studied in a square enclosure for various moving horizontal (cases 1a–1d) or vertical wall(s) (cases 2a–2c) where the bottom wall of the cavity is isothermally hot, side walls are cold, and the top wall is adiabatic. Simulations have been performed for Prandtl number Pr = 0.026 and 7.2, Reynolds number Re = 10  100, and Grashof number Gr = 103  105. Results show that, in the case of the horizontally moving wall(s) (cases 1a–1d), the overall heat transfer rate Nub¯ and total entropy generation (Stotal) are identical for cases 1a–1d and the cup-mixing temperature (θcup) is high for case 1b at Pr = 0.026, Re = 100, and Gr = 105. Similarly, in the case of the vertically moving wall(s) (cases 2a–2c), Nub¯ and Stotal are identical for cases 2a–2c with the maximum θcup occurring for the case 2a. At Pr = 7.2, Gr = 105, and Re = 10, case 1a and case 1c are preferable for horizontally moving wall(s) and either of case 2a–2c is preferable for vertically moving wall(s). At Pr = 7.2, Gr = 105, and Re = 100, case 1d may be preferable for the horizontally moving wall(s) and case 2a may be preferable for the vertically moving wall(s).  相似文献

Finite element method is used in this study to analyze the effects of buoyancy ratio and Lewis number on heat and mass transfer in a triangular cavity with zig-zag shaped bottom wall. Buoyancy ratio is defined as the ratio of Grashof number of solutal and thermal. Inclined walls of the cavity have lower temperature and concentration according to zig-zag shaped bottom wall. Enclosed space consists mostly of an absorber plate and two inclined glass covers that form a cavity. Both high temperature and high concentrations are applied to bottom corrugated wall. Computations were done for different values of buoyancy ratio (?10 ? Br ? 10), Lewis number (0.1 ? Le ? 20) and thermal Rayleigh number (104 ? RaT ? 106). Streamlines, isotherms, iso-concentration, average Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are obtained. It is found that average Nusselt and Sherwood numbers increase by 89.18% and 101.91% respectively as Br increases from ?10 to 20 at RaT = 106. Also, average Nusselt decreases by 16.22% and Sherwood numbers increases by 144.84% as Le increases from 0.1 to 20 at this Rayleigh number.  相似文献

Mixed convection heat transfer in a top and bottom heated rectangular channel with discrete heat sources has been investigated experimentally for air. The lower and upper surfaces of the channel were equipped with 8 × 4 flush-mounted heat sources subjected to uniform heat flux. Sidewalls, the lower and upper walls were insulated and adiabatic. The experimental study was made for an aspect ratio of AR = 6, Reynolds numbers 955  ReDh  2220 and modified Grashof numbers Gr* = 1.7 × 107 to 6.7 × 107. From experimental measurements, surface temperature and Nusselt number distributions of the discrete heat sources were obtained for different Grashof numbers. Furthermore, Nusselt number distributions were calculated for different Reynolds numbers. Results show that surface temperatures increase with increasing Grashof number. The row-averaged Nusselt numbers first decrease with the row number and then, due to the increase in the buoyancy affected secondary flow and the onset of instability, they show an increase towards the exit as a result of heat transfer enhancement.  相似文献

Mixed convection heat transfer from arrays of discrete heat sources inside a horizontal channel has been investigated experimentally. Each of the lower and upper surfaces of the channel was equipped with 8 × 4 flush mounted heat sources subjected to uniform heat flux. Sidewalls, lower and upper walls are insulated and adiabatic. The experimental parametric study was made for aspect ratios of AR = 2, 4 and 10, at various Reynolds and Grashof numbers. From the experimental measurements, row-average surface temperature and Nusselt number distributions of the discrete heat sources were obtained and effects of Reynolds and Grashof numbers on these numbers were investigated. From these results, the buoyancy affected secondary flow and the onset of instability have been discussed. Results show that top and bottom heater surface temperatures increase with increasing Grashof number. The top heater average-surface temperatures for AR = 2 are greater than those of bottom ones. For high values of Grashof numbers where natural convection is the dominant heat transfer regime (Gr1/Re2  1), temperatures of top heaters can have much greater values. The variation of the row-average Nusselt numbers for the aspect ratio of AR = 4, show that with the increase in the buoyancy affected secondary flow and the onset of instability, values of Nusselt number level off and even rise as a result of heat transfer enhancement especially for low Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

Turbulent natural convection in a rectangular enclosure having finite thickness heat-conducting walls at local heating at the bottom of the cavity provided that convective-radiative heat exchange with an environment on one of the external borders has been numerically studied. Mathematical simulation has been carried out in terms of the dimensionless Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations in stream function–vorticity formulations. The formulation comprises the standard two equation k–ε turbulence model with wall functions, along with the Boussinesq approximation, for the flow and heat transfer. The special attention was paid to the effects of the Grashof number 108 ? Gr < 1010, the transient factor 0 < τ < 1000 and the thermal conductivity ratio k2,1 = 5.7 × 10?4, 6.8 × 10?5 both on local and on integral problem parameters. Detailed results including stream lines, temperature profiles and correlation for the average Nusselt number in terms of Grashof number have been obtained.  相似文献

The mixed convective transport of Cu-H2O nanofluid in a differentially heated and lid-driven square enclosure in the presence of a rotating circular cylinder is investigated numerically. The top wall of the enclosure is sliding from left to right at a uniform speed while all other walls are stationary. A thermally insulated circular cylinder is placed centrally within the enclosure. The cylinder can rotate about its centroidal axis. The top and bottom walls are kept isothermal at different temperatures while the side walls are assumed adiabatic. Simulations are performed for, Richardson number 1  Ri  10, dimensionless rotational speed 0  Ω  5 and nanoparticle concentration 0  ϕ  0.20 keeping the Grashof number fixed as Gr = 104. The flow and thermal fields are analyzed through streamline and isotherm plots for various Ω and Ri. Furthermore, the drag coefficient of the moving lid and Nusselt number of the hot wall are also computed to understand the effects of Ω and Ri on them. It is observed that the heat transfer greatly depends on the rotational speed of the cylinder, mixed convective strength and the nanoparticle concentration.  相似文献

A combined forced and natural convective flow between two vertical plates with different temperatures is studied using large eddy simulation. The numerical simulations were performed with a Grashof number of Gr = 9.6 × 105 and Reynolds number of Reτ = 150 (based on the wall friction velocity and half channel width). Two sets of dynamic subgrid-scale (SGS) models were tested in the simulation; namely, the set of linear SGS models consisting of the dynamic Smagorinsky SGS stress model (DM) and dynamic eddy diffusivity SGS heat flux model (DEDM-HF), and the set of nonlinear SGS models consisting of the dynamic nonlinear SGS stress model (DNM) and dynamic tensor diffusivity SGS heat flux model (DTDM-HF). The numerical results are compared with the reported direct numerical simulation data. It is found that the resolved and SGS quantities related to the temperature field are noticeably influenced by the choice of SGS models. In general, the set of dynamic nonlinear SGS models yields better prediction of the flow than the set of dynamic linear SGS models.  相似文献

Combined heat and mass transfer from a horizontal channel with an open cavity heated from below is numerically examined in this paper. Air is the fluid considered (Pr = 0.7). The main focus of the study is mass-transfer driven flows (|N| > 1). The governing parameters considered are the buoyancy ratio N, Lewis number Le, Reynolds number Re, and Grashof number Gr. Based on the scale analysis, correlations for the entire convection regime, from natural, mixed, to forced convection, were proposed.  相似文献

The effect of the top and bottom wall temperatures on the natural convection heat transfer characteristics in an air-filled square cavity driven by a difference in the vertical wall temperatures was investigated by measuring the temperature distributions along the heated vertical wall and visualizing the flow patterns in the cavity. The experiments were performed at a horizontal Grashof number of 1.9 × 108. Increasing the top wall temperature resulted in a separated flow region on the top wall, which caused a secondary flow between the separated flow and the boundary layer on the heated vertical wall. This secondary flow had a significant effect on the heat transfer in this region. Changes in the top and bottom wall temperatures changed the temperature gradient and the average temperature of the air outside the thermal boundary layers in the cavity. The local heat transfer along much of the heated vertical wall could be correlated by Nu = C · Ra0.32, but the constant C increased when the average of the top and bottom wall temperatures increased.  相似文献

Effects of moving lid-direction on MHD mixed convection in a cavity with the bottom wall being linearly heated are analyzed using a numerical technique. Vertical walls of the enclosure are adiabatic and the sliding wall at the top has constant temperature. The lid moves in the negative and positive x-direction. Finite volume method has been used to solve the governing equations. Results are presented for different values of Hartmann number (0 ? Ha ? 30), Reynolds number (100 ? Re ? 1000) and Grashof number (104 ? Gr ? 106). It is found that direction of lid is more effective on heat transfer and fluid flow in the case of mixed convection than it is the case in forced convection. Heat transfer is also decreased with increasing of magnetic field for all studied parameters.  相似文献

The laminar natural convection in an air-filled square cavity with a partition on the top wall was experimentally investigated. Temperature measurements and flow visualizations were performed for cases with heated and cooled vertical walls (corresponding to a global Grashof number GrH of approximately 1.3 × 108) and non-dimensional top wall temperatures θT of 0.56 (insulated) to 2.3. Experiments were performed with an aluminum partition with non-dimensional height HP/H of 0.0625 and 0.125 attached to the top wall at x/H = 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6. The blockage effect and/or the thermal effect of the partition resulted in changes to the temperature and flow fields, but were mainly limited to the vicinity of the partition. The partition on the heated top wall resulted in a recirculating flow between the partition and the heated vertical wall. For a given partition height, the structure of this recirculating flow was dependent on the partition location and θT. A thermal boundary layer developed along the rear surface of the partition due to the thermal effect of the partition. The ambient temperature outside the boundary layer and Nu near the corner region was affected by the partition height due to the change in the recirculating flow and due to the thermal effect on the rear surface of the partition.  相似文献

A numerical investigation of mixed convection is carried out to study the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics in an inclined circular pipe using the finite volume method. The pipe has L/D of 500 and it was subjected to a uniform heat flux boundary condition. Four types of nanofluids (Al2O3, CuO, SiO2, and TiO2 with H2O) with nanoparticles concentration in the range of 0  φ  5% and nanoparticles diameter in the range of 20  dp  60 nm were used. The pipe inclination angle was in the range of 30  θ  75 using assisting and opposing flow. The influences of Reynolds number in the range of 100  Re  2000, and Grashof numbers in the range of 6.3 × 102  Gr  8.37 × 103 were examined. It is found that the velocity and wall shear stress are increased as Re number increases, while the surface temperature decreases. There is no significant effect of increasing Gr number on thermal and flow fields. The velocity and wall shear stress are increased and the surface temperature is decreased as φ and dp are decreased. It is concluded that the surface temperature is increased as the pipe inclination angle increases from the horizontal position (θ = 0°) to the inclined position (θ = 75°). In addition, it is inferred that the heat transfer is enhanced using SiO2 nanofluid compared with other nanofluids types. Furtheremore, it is enhanced using assisting flow compared to opposing flow.  相似文献

Thermal transport and transient dispersion of pollutants emitted from two discrete strips within the displacement ventilation enclosure have been modeled numerically. Following the full numerical simulation of turbulent air flows, the inverse determinations of multiple pollutant sources were conducted by the use of quasi reversibility methodology. Direct simulation together with the turbulent streamlines and turbulent heatlines demonstrate that the enclosure flow pattern, enclosure air thermal level and heat transfer potential will depend on the interactions of external forced flow and thermal buoyancy driven flows, i.e., Reynolds number (2 × 103 ? Re ? 104) and Grashof number (106 ? Gr ? 1010). In subsequent forward time and backward time modeling of airborne pollutant transports, temporal evolutions of enclosure average concentration and pollutant exhaust are shown to depend on the supplying velocity (Re), thermal plume (Gr), pollutant diffusivity (0.1 ? Sc ? 2), and the pitch between both sources (0.2H ? dPSL = dPSR ? 0.7H). Reverse time modeling of airborne spread has demonstrated that increasing the spread rate and the concentration sensitivity of airborne pollutants will facilitate the identification of pollutant sources.  相似文献

In this paper we present the results on experimental investigation of the local opposing mixed convection heat transfer in the vertical flat channel with symmetrical heating in a laminar–turbulent transition region. The experiments were performed in airflow (p = 0.1–1.0 MPa) in the range of Re from 1.5 × 103 to 6.6 × 104 and Grq up to 1 × 1011 at the limiting condition qw1 = qw2 = const. The analysis of the results revealed significant increase in the heat transfer with increasing of air pressure (Gr number). Also sharp increase in heat transfer was noticed in the region with vortex flow in comparison with the turbulent flow region.  相似文献

Extensive numerical results on the flow and thermal fields are presented for free convection from a semi-circular cylinder (flat base upward) immersed in quiescent power-law fluids for the following ranges of conditions: Grashof number, 10 ? Gr ? 105, Prandtl number, 0.72 ? Pr ? 100, and power-law index, 0.2 ? n ? 1.8. The heat transfer characteristics are analyzed in terms of the isotherm patterns, local and average Nusselt number as functions of the pertinent dimensionless parameters. The flow field is visualized in terms of the streamline patterns adjacent to the surface of the cylinder for a range of values of the Grashof number, Prandtl number and power-law index. A separated flow region forms at as low values of the Prandtl number as Pr = 0.72 for n ? 1 (Newtonian and shear-thickening fluids); whereas for shear-thinning fluids (n < 1), the flow remains attached to the cylinder surface over the range of conditions encompassed here. The bubble size grows with Grashof number and it shrinks with Prandtl number. In order to quantify the deviation from the Newtonian behaviour, the normalized values of average Nusselt number are analyzed as a function of the power-law index. In addition, a correlation is proposed for average Nusselt number as a function of the Grashof number, Prandtl number and power-law index. In general terms, shear-thinning fluid behaviour enhances heat transfer whereas shear-thickening has adverse influence on it.  相似文献

The effect of different inlet geometries on laminar air flow combined convection heat transfer inside a horizontal circular pipe has been experimentally investigated for Reynolds number range of 400–1600, and the Grashof number range from 3.12 × 105 to 1.72 × 106. The experimental setup consists of an aluminum circular pipe as a heated section with 30 mm inside diameter and 900 mm heated length (L/D = 30) with different inlet geometries. A wall boundary heating condition of a uniform heat flux was imposed. The inlet configurations used in this paper are calming sections having the same inside diameter as the heated pipe but with variable lengths of Lcalm. = 600 mm (L/D = 20), Lcalm. = 1200 mm (L/D = 40), Lcalm. = 1800 mm (L/D = 60), Lcalm. = 2400 mm (L/D = 80), sharp-edged and bell-mouth. It was found that the surface temperature values for calming section length corresponding to (L/D = 80) were higher than other inlet geometries due to the lower mass flow rate and higher flow resistance. It was also observed that the Nusselt number values for bell-mouth inlet geometry were higher than other inlet geometries due to the differences in the average temperatures and densities of the air. The average heat transfer results were correlated with an empirical correlation in terms of dependent parameters of Grashof, Prandtl and Reynolds numbers. The proposed correlation was compared with available literature and it shows reasonable agreement.  相似文献
