Metal silicides and silicates belong to the silicon-based non-oxide and oxide ceramics family with exceptional properties. Silicides face fatal oxidation at low temperatures and intrinsic brittleness, whereas silicates face instability in phase at high temperatures which restricts its usage in vast engineering applications. Hence, the ceramic community introduced the concept of high entropy in metal silicides and silicates. Since 2019, high entropy silicides and silicates, a multicomponent system, have created new avenues for materials discovery and design. High entropy silicides displayed elevated properties than the traditional silicides aiming its applications in microelectronic, high-temperature oxidation resistance coatings, and structural materials. Similarly, high entropy silicates displayed improved properties than the traditional silicates making them the most promising materials for environmental and thermal barrier coating applications for hot section components in gas turbines. The review focuses on specific case studies to emphasize the latest research and developments in high entropy silicides and silicates. Synthesis approaches employed in developing high entropy silicides and silicates and their structural and microstructural outcomes are addressed. The possible application is predicted based on the overview of the properties explored to date. This study deals with the identification of vermiculite in the presence of mica. Three natural silicates were first subjected to expansion by rapid heat treated at 400 °C. Then, the starting silicates and their derived heat-treated products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, N2 adsorption at − 196 °C, and helium density measurement. The adsorption of cadmium, chromium, and lead was also carried out. Two of the silicates are composed of mainly biotite and the other of biotite and vermiculite. In general, the results of X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, and helium density measurements are well in agreement. The heat treatment at 400 °C has little effect on the chemical composition, structure, and texture of the silicates. The development of microporosity is small in the silicates. Surprisingly, the adsorption capacity toward chromium and lead is larger for the biotite silicate than for the vermiculite containing silicate. 相似文献

Elastomer nanocomposites consisting of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) latex and layered silicates are prepared by a modified latex shear blending process aided with ball milling. The mode of dispersion of layered silicates in NBR is partially exfoliated and intercalated when the concentration of layered silicates is below 7.5 wt%, as evidenced by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction results. The tensile and tear mechanical properties are much higher than that of neat NBR. Specifically, the tensile and tear mechanical properties of the NBR/layered silicates increase by 200 and 60%, respectively. The decomposition temperature of the nanocomposites increases slightly. 相似文献

Sodium Aluminium Silicates - Properties and Application Sodium aluminium silicates in amorphous and crystalline form are used since many years in various technical processes. The crystalline sodium aluminium silicates, e. g. zeolites, belong to the group of structured silicates and are known for their reversible water uptake and alkaline earth exchange properties. Recently, sodium aluminium silicates have gained considerable importance since their cation exchanging ability can be utilized in washing agents for the removal of undesirable hardness of water. Thus, the polyphosphates used in washing agents can possibly be substituted. Zeolites can be supplied to the detergent industry in the form of powder or suspension. Production of the powder by spray drying does not involve special problems. Incorporation of the powder into the slurry of the detergent appears to be an anachronism from the viewpoint of energy saving. Optimization work on suspensions of zeolite yielded stable products with 45 to 48% zeolite content. The theory of critical particle concentration was applied in this work. 相似文献

Isothermal compressibility data at 21°C. at pressures between 1000 and 10,000 atmospheres are reported for the binary alkali borate and silicate glass systems. In general, a decreasing compressibility is noted with increasing alkali content in both silicates and borates, the effect being much greater in the borates in the range of compositions studied. A maximum compressibility appears to be indicated for the potassium silicates at low potassium concentrations. In silicates and at high alkali contents in the borates, the order of compressibility is K > Na > Li. At low alkali contents in the borates, this order appears to be reversed. Possible interpretations of these data are discussed in terms of the concepts of the structura of glasses. 相似文献

A thermodynamic study was carried out in order to quantify the stability of yttrium silicates under different atmospheres (argon, air, moisture), and to predict their behaviour as an EBC. For this purpose, the partial pressures of gaseous species formed during the reactive vaporization in equilibrium with yttrium silicates were evaluated and compared to those over each oxide taken separately. The partial pressures of silicon and rare earth hydroxides at the equilibrium over rare earth silicates are lower than those over each single oxide. Thus yttrium silicates appear to be sufficiently stable to be promising materials to be used as environmental barrier coatings. 相似文献

Sodium-aluminium silicates of a high degree of dispersion were obtained. Studies on the surface modification of sodium-aluminium silicates using silane coupling agents are described. The best modifiers, which induced a change of the silicate surface from a hydrophilic to a hydrophobic one, were selected. Physicochemical analyses of the obtained silicates were performed. The methods of evaluating the degree of surface modification of the silicate are presented. Attempts were made to employ the unmodified and modified sodium-aluminium silicates as fillers in polyurethane elastomers. The introduction of sodium-aluminium silicate into urethane elastomer induced increases in composite parameters such as tensile strength, relative elongation, and hardness. The most pronounced reinforcing effects were observed with urethane elastomers filled with sodium-aluminium silicate modified with an aminosilane (A-1120). 相似文献
