Over the past few decades there have been considerable efforts to use adsorption (solid/vapor) for cooling and heat pump applications, but intensified efforts were initiated only since the imposition of international restrictions on the production and utilization of CFCs and HCFCs. In this paper, a dual-mode silica gel–water adsorption chiller design is outlined along with the performance evaluation of the innovative chiller. This adsorption chiller utilizes effectively low-temperature solar or waste heat sources of temperature between 40 and 95 °C. Two operation modes are possible for the advanced chiller. The first operation mode will be to work as a highly efficient conventional chiller where the driving source temperature is between 60 and 95 °C. The second operation mode will be to work as an advanced three-stage adsorption chiller where the available driving source temperature is very low (between 40 and 60 °C). With this very low driving source temperature in combination with a coolant at 30 °C, no other cycle except an advanced adsorption cycle with staged regeneration will be operational. The drawback of this operational mode is its poor efficiency in terms of cooling capacity and COP. Simulation results show that the optimum COP values are obtained at driving source temperatures between 50 and 55 °C in three-stage mode, and between 80 and 85 °C in single-stage, multi-bed mode.  相似文献

This study proposes dimensionless correlations for predicting the properties of frost formed on a cold plate. Frosting experiments are carried out to obtain the correlations with various environmental parameters including the air temperature, air velocity, absolute humidity, and cooling plate temperature. The thickness, density, surface temperature, effective thermal conductivity, average heat and mass transfer coefficients of the frost layer are correlated as functions of the Reynolds number, Fourier number, absolute humidity, and dimensionless temperature by using a dimensional analysis. The correlations proposed in this study agree well with the experimental data within a maximum error of 10%, and can be used to predict the average frost properties in the following ranges: the air temperature of 5–15 °C, air velocity of 1.0–2.5 m s−1, absolute humidity of 0.00322–0.00847 kg kga−1, and cooling plate temperature of −35–−15 °C.  相似文献

Modelling of reciprocating and scroll compressors   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper presents simple and thermodynamically realistic models of two types of compressors widely used in domestic heat pumps (reciprocating and scroll compressors). These models calculate the mass flow rate of refrigerant and the power consumption from the knowledge of operating conditions and parameters. Some of these parameters may be found in the technical datasheets of compressors whereas others are determined in such a way that the calculated mass flow rate and electrical power match those given in these datasheets. The two models have been tested on five reciprocating compressors and five scroll compressors. This study has been limited to compressors with a maximum electrical power of 10 kW and for the following operating conditions: evaporating temperatures ranging from −20 to 15 °C and condensing temperatures ranging from 15 to 60 °C.The average discrepancies on mass flow rate and power for reciprocating compressors are 1.10 and 1.69% (for different refrigerants: R134a, R404A, R22, R12 and R407C). For scroll compressors, the average discrepancies on mass flow rate and power are 2.42 and 1.04% (for different refrigerants: R134a, R404A, R407C and R22).  相似文献

In 1984 international research took place which compared the transport conditions of quick-frozen foods in thin-wall vehicles and conventional vehicles. This work was done at the request of the group of experts of the UNECE/TRANS/GE.11 in Geneva, Switzerland. In the Netherlands measurements have been carried out on three road vehicles — one conventional and two thin-wall vehicles — in the test station and on the road. The road transport involved taking a commercial cargo of frozen fish from Holland to Italy during the summer (July). Later on an additional test was performed in the test station with a fourth thin-wall vehicle at an ambient temperature of 30°C. The results show, that in the conventional vehicle, equipped with a bulk head and a ceiling air duct, and working on a temperature setting of −25°C, a maximum product temperature of −18°C could be maintained. The maximum temperature difference in the cargo was 6 K. Thin-wall vehicles appeared to have a temperature difference of 12 K between air inlet temperature and warmest product temperature. The maximum product temperature could be held below −12, −15 or −20°C, depending on the air distribution and, in particular, on the cooling power of the thermal appliance.  相似文献

In order to settle the problem of the corrosion between sea water and the steel adsorber for ammonia system, a split heat pipe type adsorption ice making test unit, which use compound adsorbent of CaCl2 and activated carbon to improve the adsorption performance, is designed and constructed. For this test unit there is mass recovery function between two beds and the CaCl2 in compound adsorbent per bed is 1.88 kg, and there is only one pump for the whole heating and cooling phase for adsorbers. Performances of this system are tested; the lowest evaporating temperature is as low as −42 °C. At the evaporating temperature of −35 and −25 °C, the cooling powers are 0.89 and 1.18 kW, respectively. At the evaporating temperature of −15 °C, its average cooling power is 1.37 kW, which corresponds coefficient of performance of refrigeration COP=0.41 and specific cooling power per kilogram CaCl2 of each adsorber SCP=731 W kg−1. The mass recovery process has improved SCP and COP for the system by 15.5 and 24.1%, respectively. Heat transfer performance is also improved by the split heat pipe construction; the average heat transfer coefficient for a whole cycle is 155.8 W m−2 °C−1.  相似文献

A thermodynamic cycle model is used to select an optimum adsorbent-refrigerant pair in respect of a chosen figure of merit that could be the cooling production (MJ m−3), the heating production (MJ m−3) or the coefficient of performance (COP). This model is based mainly on the adsorption equilibrium equations of the adsorbent–refrigerant pair and heat flows. The simulation results of 26 various activated carbon–ammonia pairs for three cycles (single bed, two-bed and infinite number of beds) are presented at typical conditions for ice making, air conditioning and heat pumping applications. The driving temperature varies from 80 °C to 200 °C. The carbon absorbents investigated are mainly coconut shell and coal based types in multiple forms: monolithic, granular, compacted granular, fibre, compacted fibre, cloth, compacted cloth and powder. Considering a two-bed cycle, the best thermal performances based on power density are obtained with the monolithic carbon KOH-AC, with a driving temperature of 100 °C; the cooling production is about 66 MJ m−3 (COP = 0.45) and 151 MJ m−3 (COP = 0.61) for ice making and air conditioning respectively; the heating production is about 236 MJ m−3 (COP = 1.50).  相似文献

Adsorption performances of three types of adsorbents, CaCl2 with different expansion space, simple compound adsorbent and solidified compound adsorbent made by CaCl2 and activated carbon, are tested, in which ammonia is used as refrigerant. The solidified compound adsorbent shows the best performance for adsorption ice makers on fishing boats for the larger filling quantity of adsorbent in adsorber. The mass transfer performance is improved by the additive of activated carbon in solidified compound adsorbent at the condition of low evaporating temperature. The volume cooling density of solidified compound adsorbent is about 35% improved at least in comparison with the optimal results of CaCl2 at the evaporating temperature of −15 °C.  相似文献

Bending strength and the effective modulus of atmospheric ice accumulated in a closed loop wind tunnel at temperatures − 6 °C, − 10 °C and − 20 °C with a liquid water content of 2.5 g/m3 have been studied at different strain rates. More than 120 tests have been conducted. Ice samples, accumulated at each temperature, have been tested at the accumulation temperature. In addition, tests have been performed at temperatures of − 3 °C and − 20 °C, for the ice accumulated at − 10 °C. These tests showed a clear dependency of bending strength of atmospheric ice on test temperature at low strain rates. Strain rate effects are implied because the spread in bending strength for the different temperatures diminishes as strain rate increases. The results also reveal that, in most cases, the effective modulus of atmospheric ice increases with increasing strain rate. The bending strength of atmospheric ice accumulated at − 10 °C has been found to be greater than that of ice accumulated at − 6 °C and − 20 °C. The results show that the effective modulus of ice accumulated at − 20 °C at higher strain rates is less than that of the two other types.  相似文献

Convection heat transfer to spherical particles inside a hydrofluidisation freezing unit was investigated. The unit contained a food tank with a perforated bottom plate to create agitating jets. An aqueous solution of 30% ethanol+20% glucose was used as the refrigeration medium in a temperature range of −20 to 0 °C and flow rates from 5 to 15 l min−1. The lumped capacitance method was applied on cooling profiles of aluminium spheres of 5–50 mm to obtain surface heat transfer coefficients. Coefficients were within a range of 154–1548 W m−2 °C−1, and depended on diameter, flow rate, refrigeration temperature and fluid agitation level. The agitation due to jets was accounted for by means of an agitation Reynolds number in a Nusselt correlation A large variability of measured surface heat transfer coefficients was observed. This could be attributed to non-constant flow and turbulence fields in the refrigeration medium. The value of the heat transfer coefficient was compared to values determined on strawberries.  相似文献

An updated version of the Kattan–Thome–Favrat flow pattern based, flow boiling heat transfer model for horizontal tubes has been developed specifically for CO2. Because CO2 has a low critical temperature and hence high evaporating pressures compared to our previous database, it was found necessary to first correct the nucleate pool boiling correlation to better describe CO2 at high reduced pressures and secondly to include a boiling suppression factor on the nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficient to capture the trends in the flow boiling data. The new method predicts 73% of the CO2 database (404 data points) to within ±20% and 86% to within ±30% over the vapor quality range of 2–91%. The database covers five tube diameters from 0.79 to 10.06 mm, mass velocities from 85 to 1440 kg m−2 s−1, heat fluxes from 5 to 36 kW m−2, saturation temperatures from −25 °C to +25 °C and saturation pressures from 1.7 to 6.4 MPa (reduced pressures up to 0.87).  相似文献

This article experimentally investigates the thermal performance of a thermal battery used in the ice storage air-conditioning system as a subcooler. The thermal battery utilizes the superior heat transfer characteristics of two-phase closed thermosyphon and eliminates the drawbacks found in convectional energy storage systems. Experimental investigations are first conducted to study the thermal behavior of thermal battery under different charge temperatures (−5 °C to −9 °C) in which water is used as the energy storage material. This study also examines the thermal performance of the subcooled ice storage air conditioner under different cooling loads. Experimental data of temperature variation of water, ice fraction, refrigerant mass flow rate and coefficient of performance (COP) are obtained. The results show that supercooling phenomenon appears in the water and it can be ended when the charge temperature is lower than −6 °C. The system gives 28% more cooling capacity and 8% higher COP by the contribution of the thermal battery used as a subcooler.  相似文献

Chilled foods are stored for periods of between a few hours and many days in domestic refrigerators. However, there are little published data on the temperature performance of domestic refrigerators within the home. A survey has been taken in 252 households in the UK and some of the results are presented in this paper. The refrigerators investigated in the survey were found to have an overall mean temperature of approximately 6°C, which ranged from 11.4 to −0.9°C. Temperature ranges over the whole refrigerator varied from 4.5 to 30.5°C with 3.7% of the total being warmer than 20°C. On average 29.9% of refrigerators operated below 5°C and 66.7% operated below 7°C. Few refrigerators (7.3%) ran, on average, above 9°C. No refrigerator characteristic (apart from type) could be related to temperatures or temperature distribution in the refrigerators investigated.  相似文献

This paper presents a comparative study of the condensation heat transfer coefficients in a smooth tube when operating with pure refrigerant R134a and its mixture with lubricant Castrol “icematic sw”. The lubricant is synthetic polyol ester based oil commonly used in lubricating the compressors. Two concentrations of R134a-oil mixtures of 2% and 5% oil (by mass) were analysed for a range of saturation temperatures of refrigerant R134a between 35 °C and 45 °C. The mass flow rate of the refrigerant and the mixtures was carefully maintained at 1 g/s, with a vapour quality varying between 1.0 and 0. The effects of vapour quality, flow rate, saturation temperature and temperature difference between saturation and tube wall on the heat transfer coefficient are investigated by analysing the experimental data. The experimental results were then compared with predictions from earlier models [Int J Heat Mass Transfer (1979), 185; 6th Int Heat Transfer Congress 3 (1974) 309; Int J Refrig 18 (1995) 524; Trans ASME 120 (1998) 193]. Finally two new empirical models were developed to predict the two-phase condensation heat transfer coefficient for pure refrigerant R134a and a mixture of refrigerant R134a with Castrol “icematic sw”.  相似文献

An adsorptive solar refrigerator was built and tested in May 1999 in Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso. The adsorption pair is activated carbon + methanol. The adsorber is also the solar collector (2 m2, single glazed), the condenser is air-cooled (natural convection) and the evaporator contains 40 l of water that can freeze into ice. This amount of ice acts as a cold storage for the cold cabinet (available volume of 440 l). Elements such as valves and a graduated bottle are installed, but only for experimental purposes. Apart from these valves, and also ventilation dampers which are open at night time and closed at daytime, the machine does not contain any moving parts and does not consume any mechanical energy. Within the requirement of vacuum technology, the machine is relatively easy to manufacture, so that construction in Burkina-Faso is feasible. Experimental performance is presented in terms of gross solar COP. During the test period, irradiance were quite good (between 19 and 25 MJ m−2), but the ambient temperature was relatively warm (averagely 27.4 °C at sunrise and 37.4 °C at mid-afternoon). The experimental values of the gross solar COP lie between 0.09 and 0.13. Despite a warm climate, the performance of the machine compares favourably to previously published results.

A Micro-Slicer Image Processing System (MSIPS) has been applied to observe the ice crystal structures formed in frozen dilute solutions. Several characteristic parameters were also proposed to investigate the three-dimensional (3-D) morphology and distribution of ice crystals, based on their reconstructed images obtained by multi-slicing a frozen sample with the thickness of 5 μm. The values of characteristic parameters were determined for the sample images with the dimension of 530×700×1000 μm. The 3-D morphology of ice crystals was found to be a bundle of continuous or dendrite columns at any freezing condition. The equivalent diameter of ice crystals were in the range of 73–169 μm, and decreased exponentially with increasing freezing rate at the copper cooling plate temperature of −20 to −80 °C. At the Tcp −40 °C, the volumes of ice crystals were in the range of 4.6×104 μm3 to 3.3×107 μm3, and 36 ice columns were counted in the 3-D image.  相似文献

Adsorption performances and thermal conductivity were tested for three types of adsorbent: Pure CaCl2 powder, simple composite adsorbent and consolidated composite adsorbent. The simple composite adsorbents show better adsorption performance because the additive of expanded graphite in CaCl2 powder has restrained the agglomeration phenomenon in adsorption process and improved the adsorption performance of CaCl2. The consolidated composite adsorbent are suitable to be used as adsorbent for ice maker on fishing boats because they have higher thermal conductivity, larger volumetric cooling capacity, higher SCP values and better anti-sway performance than simple composite adsorbents. Thermal conductivity of the consolidated composite adsorbent is 6.5–9.8 W m−1 K−1 depending on the molding pressure, ranging from 5 to 15 MPa, which is about 32 times higher than the thermal conductivity of CaCl2 powder. The volumetric cooling capacity of consolidated composite adsorbent is about 52% higher than the best result obtained for CaCl2 at the evaporating temperature of −10 °C. The SCP of the consolidated adsorbent increases of about 353% than CaCl2 powder from simulation results at Tad=30 °C and Tev=−10 °C. The consolidated composite adsorbents have good anti-sway performance and they are not easy to be scattered out when the fishing boats sway on the sea.  相似文献

The performance of a solid sorption icemaker is investigated. CaCl2/activated carbon was used as compound adsorbent and ammonia was employed as adsorbate. The influence of operating conditions (cooling water temperature, mass recovery and heat pipe heat recovery, etc.) on the mass of ice, SCP (specific cooling power) and COP (coefficient of performance) was experimentally assessed. At the desorption temperature of 126 °C, cooling water temperature of 22 °C, ice produced temperature of −7.5 °C, 40 s of mass recovery and 2 min of heat pipe heat recovery, the mass of ice, SCP and COP values are 17.6 kg/h, 369.1 W/kg and 0.2, respectively.  相似文献

CO2 is environmentally friendly, safe and more suitable to ejector refrigeration cycle than to vapor compression cycle. Supersonic two-phase flow of CO2 in the diverging sections of rectangular converging–diverging nozzles was investigated. The divergence angles with significant variation of decompression were 0.076°, 0.153°, 0.306° and 0.612°. This paper presents experimental decompression phenomena which can be used in designing nozzles and an assessment of Isentropic Homogeneous Equilibrium (IHE). Inlet conditions around 6–9 MPa, 20–37 °C were used to resemble ejector nozzles of coolers and heat pumps. For inlet temperature around 37 °C, throat decompression boiling from the saturated liquid line, supersonic decompression and IHE solution were obtained for the two large divergence angles. For divergence angles larger than 0.306°, decompression curves for inlet temperature above 35 °C approached IHE curves. For divergence angles smaller than 0.306° or for nozzles with inlet temperature below 35 °C, IHE had no solution.  相似文献

Tungsten trioxide (WO3) electrochromic coatings have been formed on indium tin oxide-coated glass substrates by aqueous routes. Coating sols are obtained by dissolving tungsten powder in acetylated (APTA) or plain peroxotungstic acid (PTA) solutions. The structural evolution and electrochromic performance of the coatings as a function of calcination temperature (250 °C and 400 °C) have been reported. Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction have shown that amorphous WO3 films are formed after calcination at 250 °C for both processing routes; however, the coatings that calcined at 400 °C were crystalline in both cases. The calcination temperature-dependent crystallinity of the coatings results in differences in optical properties of the coatings. Higher coloration efficiencies can be achieved with amorphous coatings than could be seen in the crystalline coatings. The transmittance values (at 800 nm) in the colored state are 35% and 56% for 250 °C and 400 °C-calcined coatings, respectively. The electrochemical properties are more significantly influenced by the method of sol preparation. The ion storage capacities designating the electrochemical properties are found in the range of 1.62–2.74 × 10− 3 (mC cm− 2) for APTA coatings; and 0.35–1.62 × 10− 3 (mC cm− 2) for PTA coatings. As a result, a correlation between the microstructure and the electrochromic performance has been established.  相似文献

A solar thermochemical prototype producing low-temperature cold has been built and tested during the summer and autumn 2005 in Perpignan, France. It cools a 560 L cold box down to about −25 °C using only low-grade heat produced by two simple flat plate solar collectors. The process involves two cascaded thermochemical systems using BaCl2 salt reacting with ammonia. Its working mode is discontinuous, as it alternates between one decomposition mode at high pressure (daytime) and one cold production mode at low pressure (nighttime). Experimental results prove the feasibility of this new concept of solar cold production, with temperatures as low as −30 °C, demonstrate its potential use in housing, by the acceptable size and weight of the system and show the system performances during the sunniest months of the year, with a rough solar coefficient of performance (COP) of about 0.031 over the test period. The major meteorological parameters influencing the process efficiency are the solar irradiation and the outside temperature.  相似文献
