Electromagnetic compatibility is becoming an important element in the design of virtually all equipment and systems connected to an electrical supply. Contemporary design practice is increasingly reliant on the use of computer-based tools to realise the maximum degree of automation in the design process. This trend is set to continue. Furthermore, in the design of complex systems, interactions between different facets of the design problem make concurrent engineering practices mandatory. In practice, irrespective of its technical capabilities, ease of use and cost of deployment are critical factors in determining the success of any design tool. If a CAD package is to be widely used within industry then it must be both user friendly and capable of running quickly on modest PC platforms; at the same time, offering the user the maximum possible physical insight into the nature and magnitude of the interactions affecting the design. We explore the nature of the practice of collaboration, focusing in particular on some of the reasons why collaborative initiatives tend to challenge those involved. Two concepts are central to this exploration. The first is collaborative advantage. This captures the synergy argument: to gain real advantage from collaboration, something has to be achieved that could not have been achieved by any one of the organizations acting alone. This concept provides a useful "guiding light" for the purpose of collaboration. The second concept, collaborative inertia, captures what happens very frequently in practice: the output from a collaborative arrangement is negligible, the rate of output is extremely slow, or stories of pain and hard grind are integral to successes achieved. 相似文献

American document design process models reflect the assumption that comprehension and usability are the most important characteristics of effective documents, but it is increasingly evident that other cultures value other communicative features of documents and that purposes and intentions vary across cultures. This case study examines the responses of four sets of American readers (three sets familiar with American document design research and practice and one set of content specialists-engineers by training) to the visual aspects of an annual report. The original document was prepared for a mid-sized Japanese corporation and published and distributed in Japan; the American version is an almost literal translation of the original document from Japanese to English, with no changes in visuals, graphic design or format. Protocol analyses of readers' responses revealed distinct patterns of expectations and preferences based on (1) cultural biases, (2) degree of familiarity with the American document design model, and (3) ignorance of Japanese culture and corporate communicative practices. This study raises questions about the effectiveness in terms of cultural sensitivity of what we have called the “American” document design process model and usability testing procedures, and calls for extensive collaborative research designed to describe and analyze current practice in international settings 相似文献

The high level collaborative middleware is a research and technology development (RTD) challenge and a desirable research outputs for CWEs. This paper outlines a collaborative middleware that has been developed on smartphone technology and enables the creation of a multi-user CWE via a bluetooth network. To achieve this aim, it started with discussing the key design parameters, and then the design of collaborative middleware with collaborative functionality; ended by completed a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis with focus group to determine the collaborative middleware's potential impact to improve communications between users. The result of the evaluation concludes the bluetooth enabled collaborative middleware can improve the communications of mobile ad-hoc networks. This research also provides two key areas of contribution. Firstly it provides an evolutionary step for the creation of new collaborative applications.
