Relationships Among NGN, Softswitch and MS

University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) is a leading university in the domain of information science and technology. It is one of the universities being supported both by the national "211 Project" and co-built by Ministry of Education and the local provincial government. It is also a research-oriented university with its own graduate school. The university has long been reputed as "the cradle of the Chinese national electronic industry". Today UESTC has developed into a multidisciplinary university, which has electronics information science and technology as its nucleus, engineering as its major field, and incorporates science, management and liberal arts.     

Opportunities and Challenges Brought by the Internet

The Internet has made an important part of the national information infrastructure of China. Without the Internet, social informationization cannot be popularized to an extent as today. Upon the coming of a new year, we especially invited Mr. Jiang Lintao, a famous communication expert and the chief engineer of China Academy of Telecommunication Research of the Ministry of Information Industry, to give us his opinions on the opportunities and challenges brought by the Internet. According to Mr. Jiang, the appearance of the Internet has brought great impact on telecommunications networks. It has broken the monopoly of the telecom industry in telecom services and promoted the development of technologies. Characterized by continuous innovation and aggressiveness, Internet services guarantee their dominating position in broadband networks, and put the telecom industry in a quite passive position. The telecom industry is still looking for new development direction and breakthroughs in technology so as to regain its leading position. Mr. Jiang also pointed out that the future of both telecom networks and the Internet should be next generation network, which will be the main body of the future national information infrastructure. The essential features of the next generation network should be as follows: it should be secure and trustworthy enough to safeguard users’ rights, national security and social stability; it should be scalable enough to allow sustainable development; it should be compatible with current main technologies, co-exist with them and allow their graceful evolution; and it should provide a network platform for everybody to innovate.

Fabrication of 1.55μm Si-Based Resonant Cavity Enhanced Photodetectors

A novel bonding method using silicate gel as bonding medium is developed.High reflective SiO2/Si mirrors deposited on silicon substrates by e-beam deposition are bonded to the active layers at a low temperature of 350℃ without any special treatment on bonding surfaces.The reflectivities of the mirrors can be as high as 99.9%.A Si.based narrow band response InGaAs photodetector is successfully fabricated,with a quantum efficiency of 22.6% at the peak wavelength of 1.54μm,and a full width at half maximum of about 27nm.This method has a great potential for industry processes.

Wafer bonding - literally, the temporary or permanent joining of two wafers or substrates using a suitable combination of process technologies, chemicals and adhesives - is one such innovation. Originally developed primarily as a back-end process for use in the manufacture of fragile microelectromechanical system （MEMS） devices and structures, wafer-bonding technology has proved invaluable for engineered substrates, such as silicon on insulator （SOI）, and is now moving further into the front end.

Facing the rapid development trend of quantum computing, we believe that we should refer to the classical computer industry in the early stage, form an industrial system, and develop the quantum computing industry. We should also use the scientific system engineering method to carry out the research and development of the quantum computer and establish the ecological environment of the quantum computer industry with the demand as the traction, so as to better serve the development of the national economy.

Moreover, the rapid development of the Internet and the convergence of the Internet and telecom networks, especially the development of mobile Internet, are giving the telecom industry a shock. This shock will certainly change the structure of the telecom industry, gradually break the monopoly status of telecom operators, shift the telecom emphasis to services and contents, and enhance the importance of terminal vendors in the industrial chain.     

ZTE Launches innovative Energy-Saving Solution for LTE Networks

19 November, 2012, Shenzhen-ZTE Corporation, a publicly listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions, and mobile devices, announced the launch of its Energy Saving Solution for operator LTE networks. According to test results, a single site employing this solution can save up to 40 percent power. The global ICT industry accounts for as much as 2.5 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions according to research firm Gartner.
