The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) started research into a future high-definition television system about ten years ago and is now taking the initiative in constructing such a system. Wide ranging studies, from desirable picture quality and television standards to broadcasting systems, development of new equipment from high-resolution cameras to wide screen displays, and transmission tests using this equipment, have been carried out. The status of high-definition television (HDTV) in Japan, Europe, and the US is examined. Japan has begun experimental broadcasts, and Europe plans experimental HDTV broadcasts in 1991, while the US is mired in disputes over just how important HDTV might be to its deteriorating consumer electronics industry. Delays in selecting a terrestrial broadcasting transmission standard for the US suggest 1993 as the earliest possible date for the start of HDTV broadcasting in the United States and 1995 as a more probable date. 作为高清晰度电视总体组在数字电视传输技术研究方面的组成部分,介绍一种由浙江大学、上海交通大学和西安电子科技大学共同提出并开发的高级数字电视广播系统(Advanced Digital Television Broadcasting System,ADTB)的传输方案。该方案在功能和性能上超越现有的国外数字电视标准,能够在使用民用级调谐器的前提下,实现大容量广播数据的稳定的无线固定、便携和移动接收,支持单频网络和同频道转发,包含高效的数字有线广播传输模式,易于兼容国外标准。这是我国数字电视广播标准理想的侯选方案之一。  相似文献

The Association of Radio Industries and Businesses in Japan decided the specifications for a digital terrestrial broadcasting system called ISDB-T in 1998. The ISDB-T transmission system is recommended in ITU-R Recommendation BT.1306. Planning criteria of the ISDB-T system are recommended in ITU-R Recommendation BT.1368. This paper describes the transmission scheme of the ISDB-T system. First, it explains features of the ISDB-T system. Second, it describes transmission systems such as modulation, error correction, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing framing, transmission and multiplexing configuration control, guard interval, etc. Finally, it concludes discussion of the ISDB-T transmission system and describes transmission parameters used in Japan.  相似文献

We introduce a high‐definition three‐dimensional television (3DTV) broadcasting system that is fully compatible with the existing transmission system of high‐definition television (HDTV). Specifically, we developed high‐definition 3DTV broadcasting subsystems including a 3DTV camera, 3DTV video multiplexer and demultiplexer, 3DTV receiver, and 3DTV outdoor broadcast van. To verify the developed subsystems, we performed experimental services of 3DTV broadcasting during the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan.. According to our subjective evaluation test, 88% of 273 viewers rated the perceived depth of 3DTV as “Good,” and 36% of the viewers preferred 3DTV to other digital broadcasting services.  相似文献

Communication by broadcasting, although most effective in terms of broad area coverage at relatively low cost, is subject to reception interference which is often uncontrollable. In heavily populated urban areas these severe and changing interference problems, as well as limited electromagnetic spectrum, are inherent to the environment. Communication by wire, a point-to-point coverage independent of the electromagnetic spectrum, presents a solution to these problems. The communications engineering community is encouraged to develop transmission standards for the wired system that are compatible with broadcast transmission standards, and transmission testing for wired systems is reviewed.  相似文献

In this paper, we present an interactive data broadcasting system compliant with the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) standards. The proposed system provides users not only with various data broadcasting services but also remote interactive services. For various data broadcasting services, we have adopted a synchronized data injector that calculates the transmission time of synchronized data accurately and multiplexes synchronized data with the data of an MPEG‐2 audiovisual program according to the calculated transmission time. To support remote interactive services, we designed and implemented a return channel server connected on a bi‐directional interaction channel. Test results show that the proposed system provides both an asynchronous and synchronized data broadcasting service and remote interactive service appropriately.  相似文献

Japan is the only country, so far, to be actually broadcasting high-definition television services. MUSE (multiple sub-Nyquist sampling encoding) is the basis for systems applying bandwidth compression to the transmission of both analog and digital signals. It encodes a signal of 1125 lines and 60 fields per second, a high-definition television (HDTV) signal into an 8-Hz bandwidth. Experimental MUSE broadcasts started in 1990 and have continued ever since. Meanwhile, work has been in progress in areas other than MUSE. Enhanced-definition television, a terrestrial system, is entering its second generation. Integrated digital broadcasting looks to spin many services into a single digital thread for transmission over a single channel. Digital sound broadcasting and hierarchical television transmission will also come in for consideration. The MUSE system depends on digital technology for signal processing, but the HDTV signal that is broadcast is analog, the outcome of frequency modulation  相似文献

Broadcasting satellite (BS) digital broadcasting of HDTV in Japan is laid down by the ISDB-S international standard. Since it has a unique transmission technique that can use a number of modulation schemes simultaneously in one RF carrier, the most suitable modulation scheme for the broadcast content can be selected even within one RF carrier. In addition, a hierarchical modulation technique that can mitigate rain attenuation can be introduced as an application of this transmission system. Typical parameters of wideband speech and audio signals, including digitized versions of each, potential applications, and available transmission media, are described. Facts about human auditory perception that are exploited in audio coding and quality measures that play an important role in coder evaluations and designs are reviewed. Techniques for efficient coding of wideband speech and audio signals, with an emphasis on existing standards, are discussed. The audio coding standard developed by the Moving Pictures Expert Group within the International Organization for standardization (ISO/MPEG) is covered in some detail, since it will be used in many application areas, including digital storage, transmission, and broadcasting of audio-only signals and audiovisual applications such as videotelephony, videoconferencing, and TV broadcasting. Digital audio broadcasting will come on-line worldwide in the next few years. The technology-also known as digital audio radio or digital sound broadcasting-promises to provide sound of compact-disk quality, nearly free from multipath distortion or other transmission interferences. And digital audio broadcasting (DAB) is not just for sound: all sorts of information, digitally encoded, will be transmitted. High definition television (HDTV) services will play the most important role in the digital television systems for the future. HDTV is already broadcast daily in Japan and advanced television (ATV) standards will soon be established in the US. The hardware systems for two HDTV systems, the 1125/60 and 1250/50 systems, have already been developed. Their outlines are described in the paper. Signal processing of HDTV is mainly carried out by digital methods on both the studio and receiver sides. The principles of processing are the same as for conventional television but the higher clock frequency and larger quantity of information require more sophisticated hardware. Digital signal processing methods are the key technology in HDTV broadcasting systems regardless of whether modulation is analog or digital. Some broadcasting systems are already practical use while others, are experimental. The author discusses these systems.
