Some important concepts and techniques related to dynamic operation and maintenance (O&M) systems for switching networks are demonstrated. Five types of node that comprise the dynamic network O&M system being developed by the authors are discussed. They are local exchanges, a centralized operation system, a database system, a diagnostics expert system, and maintenance workstations. The nodes are implemented on an efficient distributed system and use a standardized interface. This O&M system, which is geared toward improved maintenance, focuses on the switching network as a whole, rather than on individual exchanges. In the case of alarms and fault messages, O&M takes corrective action automatically  相似文献

Metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) capacitors and MOS field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) fabricated on the carbon face of 4H-SiC were characterized following different postoxidation annealing methods used to passivate the oxide–semiconductor (O–S) interface. Of the various processes studied, sequential postoxidation annealing in NO followed by atomic hydrogen gave the lowest interface trap density (D it). Direct oxidation/passivation in NO yielded somewhat better IV characteristics, though all passivation ambients produced approximately the same breakdown field strength. n-Channel MOSFETs showed high channel mobility at low field, which is likely caused by the presence of mobile ions at the O–S interface. Comparisons with the silicon face are presented for interface trap density, oxide breakdown field, and channel mobility. These comparisons suggest that the carbon face does not offer significant performance advantages.  相似文献

The field performance of photovoltaic systems has been studied extensively for many applications and a number of databases exist in the United States and internationally. However, these databases focus almost exclusively on the system elecrical performance. Published information on the operation and maintenance (O&M) experience and costs for photovoltaic systems is almost nonexistent. At a time when photovoltaics is being considered as a viable option for distributed energy generation, it is critical that maintenance experience be captured to identify lifecycle costs and/or levelized energy costs for these systems, as well as to identify areas for system and component improvements. This paper addresses the data collection, analysis and results of an off‐grid residential customer service program offered by the Arizona Public Service (APS) Company over a six‐year period from 1997 through 2002. Standardized, packaged photovoltaic systems were offered and operated by APS through a lease arrangement with customers throughout the state of Arizona. The operation and maintenance records for these systems were carefully tracked and analyzed. There are very few published data comparing performance and cost of thermal and photovoltaic (PV) based solar power generations. With recent intense technology and business developments there is a need to establish a comparison between these two solar energy options. We have developed a simple model to compare electricity cost using these two options without any additional fuel source of hybridization. Capital along with operation and maintenance (O&M) costs and other parameters from existing large scale solar farms are used to reflect actual project costs. To compete with traditional sources of power generation, solar technologies need to provide dispatchable electric power to respond to demand during peak hours. Different solutions for energy storage are available. In spite of their high capital cost, adding energy storage is considered a better long term solution than hybrid solar systems for large scale power plants. For this reason, a comparison between the two solar options is also provided that include energy storage. Although electricity storage is more expensive than thermal storage, PV power remains a competitive option. Expenses related to O&M in solar thermal plant are about ten times higher than PV, an important factor resulting in higher energy cost. Based on data from proven commercial technologies, this study showed that PV holds a slight advantage even when energy storage is included. Copyright © 2010 Crown in the right of Canada. With the increasing popularity of wireless portable devices, such as laptops, PDAs and mobile phones, it is getting more and more important for mobile users to discover their required resources (e.g. printers and fax machines) without any need of configurations. To this end, automatic service discovery is an important feature of mobile Ad Hoc networks (Manets). In this paper a service discovery protocol for Manets based on the IETF Service Location Protocol has been implemented in the NS-2 simulator. Its performance is studied under different mobility patterns, network sizes and number of service agents. A lightweight quality of service (QoS) aware service discovery protocol is also proposed to support QoS applications. Zhong Fan is currently a Principal Researcher with Toshiba Research Europe in Bristol, UK. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, China and the Ph.D. degree in Telecommunication Networks from Durham University, UK.
