This paper examines the behavioral and psychological factors influencing the adoption and use of mobile phone in rural China. Based on the diffusion of innovations and perceived needs theory, this research, through a case study of Hubei, China, supports the theoretical model that both behavioral and psychological factors can predict Chinese rural residents’ adoption and use of mobile phone. Psychological factors, however, play a weaker role in rural residents’ adoption and use of mobile phone than do behavioral factors. Moreover, behavioral factors can significantly predict some of the psychological factors. By adding behavioral factors into the theoretical model, this study supplements the perceived needs theory and extends it from urban setting to rural setting. Digital technologies, such as online healthcare portals, enable elderly people to live independently at home for a longer period of time. Independent living, in this context, refers to the freedom elderly people have to live their lives in ways that they find important. Borrowing from the capability approach (CA) framework from Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen, the core argument of this paper is that elderly people make decisions on whether to use digital healthcare technologies by considering how these technologies enhance their capabilities to live their lives in ways that are valuable to them. This paper develops a theoretical model of adoption of digital healthcare technologies that support independent living applying the CA framework. We follow a mixed-methods approach with a sequence of qualitative, quantitative, and qualitative methods. We find support for our theoretical model, specifically that the intention to use online healthcare portals depends on whether elderly people expect to enhance their capabilities for living independently by using them. Our study contributes to the information systems literature on adoption of digital healthcare technologies as it is the first that applies the capability approach. For adoption studies on digital technologies in healthcare and beyond, our study poses two major theoretical implications: (1) when considering how outcome expectations affect adoption, scholars should consider how digital technologies allow people to live their lives in ways that are valuable to them, rather than considering how technologies help to execute predefined tasks, jobs, or activities; (2) the availability of digital technologies should be considered as a mediator between outcome expectations and intention to use technologies.  相似文献

E-government is becoming an important topic and is attracting more and more research. Its adoption is determined by many factors among which user’s familiarity is not a well researched one. Without a real longitudinal research, familiarity cannot be investigated. To explore the influence of e-government familiarity, we utilized two samples with two different objectives. The first sample utilized 241 responses to understand the relative awareness of 20 concepts that are known to belong to e-government topic. The second sample included a two stage method, with an extended survey. A survey including the 20 concepts and an additional 14 items measured four constructs: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, privacy and security assurance, and trust in e-government. The second survey was distributed to a class of 50 students at the start of an e-government course and at the end of it.Results of the first survey indicated high levels of awareness in regard to service provision, time and location, and necessity of information needed. Dimensions like digital divide (gender and accessibility) and social change were among the highly recognized topics. On the other hand, e-participation and political concepts of e-government were moderately perceived by the sample. Results of the second sample indicated a significant influence of familiarity with e-government (gained from the course content) on 14 items out of the 20 used. Also, perceived usefulness and privacy and security assurance were significant predictors of trust in e-government. Finally, all item means increased in the second stage except for one item only. Governments need to raise awareness regarding e-government initiatives and improve citizens’ familiarity with the topic.  相似文献

Recommender Systems (RSs) have played an important role in online retailing portals and customers’ decision-making processes. Recommender systems that are based on the conventional Collaborative Filtering (CF) approach rely on single customers’ ratings on retailing websites. Multi-criteria CF (MCCF) approaches that rely on multi-aspects of the products have provided more reliable and effective recommendations on retailing websites. However, these approaches should be improved in terms of accuracy by solving sparsity issues and incorporating criteria ratings. In addition, most of the recommendation agents that are based on MCCF cannot learn automatically from the features of the products to model customers’ preferences and generate accurate recommendations on retailing websites. Besides, although previous studies have utilized single and multi-criteria ratings in recommendation agents of tourism websites, still, if there is a lack of ratings of items, most of these systems will fail to generate accurate recommendations to users. In this research, we develop a new recommendation agent based on a MCCF approach to effectively improve the performance of previous recommendation systems for tourism websites. The results demonstrated that the method can predict the most relevant products to users, particularly when the dataset is sparse.  相似文献

Global disruption and innovation are revolutionising many industries and creating a digitally disruptive environment (DDE); real estate is no exception. Real estate online platforms (REOPs) are getting more attention in the era of COVID-19, where the real estate businesses must run online, and the service users are pushed to a forced digital experience adoption. The users or consumers are not satisfied or happy with the current state of REOPs and often regret their decisions due to the poor quality of the web-based information provided on these REOPs. Based on a mixed approach of integrated KANO-SISQual, the current study develops a comprehensive smart real estate technology adoption model (SRETAM) to model the users’ perception of the REOPs in DDE. Data is collected through a questionnaire survey from 407 Sydney based REOP users. A total of 31 key factors are identified by reviewing 256 articles vetted by 12 local real estate agents. The results highlight 19 factors to be very important to REOPs users: reliability, the accuracy of the information, and credibility of the online platforms are the top three important factors. The hypotheses’ results show that all the SRETAM categories contribute equally to the users’ behavioural intention to use the REOPs and the KANO categories are statistically different. For KANO categories, eight attractive features are identified: graphical statistics, familiar web technology, content structure, web design, immersive content, self-efficacy, information novelty, and presence of 3D interactive models. Displaying the users’ location, learning tutorials, and hyperlinks to external sources on the web portals dissatisfy REOP users. The factors and their classifications can help the users get more features, verified, and transparent information for making better decisions in the DDE, whereas the REOP can enjoy more business due to increased service consumers. This can lay the foundation for transforming the traditional real estate sector into smart real estate in lines with industry 4.0 requirements in the DDE.  相似文献

Algorithmic decision-making (ADM) systems are heavily used by businesses, governments, and the nonprofit sector. Their adoption by the public is important for their optimal performance, but the impact of user perceptions on ADM system adoption is not well-understood. We develop a theoretical model that examines the effect of a user’s transparency concern on perceived fairness, accountability, and privacy; it then captures the effect of these on trust in, usefulness of, and finally, intention to adopt an ADM system. We use results from a large-scale survey among 2612 Dutch citizens to test our research model. Our results shed light on the role of transparency concern on trust and perceived usefulness through its impact on perceived fairness, accountability, and privacy. The survey data of a large representative group enables us to capture public views on ADM systems. Finally, the study provides a comparative view of ADM system perceptions for different application scenarios. Our insights on differences between scenarios can help organizations prioritize relevant measures to improve the adoption of their ADM systems.  相似文献

In recent years, China has been in a period of social transition. Public emergency events have occurred frequently, and social media have developed rapidly. Social media users in China not only represent traditional audiences but also play an increasingly important role in crisis communication during public emergency events by expressing their views, discussing events with others and sharing information both online and offline. According to national telephone survey data from China, nearly two-thirds of the respondents engaged in communication behaviors during public emergency events, and more than forty percent of those users communicated by social media. Hundreds of millions of Chinese social media users are becoming the driving force of the public opinion field. To better understand social media users’ online information dissemination behaviors and influencing factors, we developed the hierarchical logistic regression model and observed that demographic variables (gender and age), social media use, people’s concerns regarding public emergencies and people’s need to monitor the government’s performance during public emergencies significantly influence online information dissemination behaviors. Our study has practical significance and academic value for understanding the online public opinion field and online political participation in China.  相似文献

This study uses TAM to examine the factors that influence the adoption of mobile payment in China. The proposed model is empirically evaluated based on TAM by using data collected from 370 users concerning their perceptions of mobile payment. The findings indicate that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use have significant effects on users’ attitude. Furthermore, network externality is also an important factor influencing the adoption. But customers have weak perceptions of the risks of M payment. Open government data, as a phenomena, may be considered an important and influential innovation that has the potential to drive the creation of public value via enabling the prevention of corruption, increase in accountability and transparency, and driving the co-creation of new and innovative services. However, in order for open government data to be fully taken advantage of, it must be found, understood, and used. Though many countries maintain open government data portals, the usability of said portals can vary greatly; this is important to understand as the usability of a portal likely impacts the eventual reuse of the data made available there. Acknowledging the importance of portal usability to the data reuse process, this paper helps to elucidate some initial insights by asking two questions: “How can the usability of open government data portals be evaluated and compared across contexts?” and “What are the most commonly missing usability aspects from open government data portals?”. In order to answer these research questions, a subset of 41 national open government data portals were selected for an in-depth usability analysis drawing on the feedback from 40 individual users. As a result of this analysis, the paper is able to make three primary contributions: (1) the validation of a framework for open government data portal usability analysis, (2) develops an initial comparative international ranking of open government data portal usability, and (3) identifies commonly occurring portal usability strengths and weaknesses across contexts.  相似文献

The present study explores the economic and public policy factors that have contributed South Korea’s global leadership in broadband adoption. In particular, the authors explore the economic and public policy factors shaping telecommunication development in South Korea, employing a conceptual framework that explicates a triangular relationship between the government, service providers, and users.

Data used in the study are based on government statistics, company-published information, and secondary sources. Our analysis suggests that (1) the Korean government’s cyber vision plan has provided an open market that encourages competition, as the dramatic growth of the broadband market in Korea is the culmination of appropriate government policy, growing demand, and fierce market competition based on responsive supply, and (2) operators can benefit from consolidation as well as multiple revenue sources generated by new services in order to remain competitive.  相似文献

Cloud computing technologies can play an essential role in public organisations and companies while it reduces the cost of using information technology services. It allows users to access the service anytime and anywhere, with paying for what they use. In developing countries, such as Saudi Arabia, the cloud computing is still not extensively adopted, compared to countries in the west. In order to encourage the adoption of cloud services, it is considerable to understand an important and particular complications regarding to cloud computing is the potential and perceived security risks and benefits posed by implementing such technology.This paper investigates the critical security factors that influence the decision to adopt cloud computing by Saudi government agencies. A framework was proposed for three categories, Social Factors category, Cloud Security Risks Category and Perceived Cloud Security Benefits that includes well-known cloud security features. The framework factors were identified by critically reviewing studies found in the literature together with factors from the industrial standards within the context of Saudi Arabia. An experiment study was conducted in five government agencies in Saudi Arabia by interview and questionnaire with experts in order to improve and confirm the framework. All the factors in the proposed framework were found to be statistically significant. An additional factor identified was Failure of client side encryption. Moreover, they suggested including this factor as a potential risk under Security Risk Factors Category. The initial framework was updated based on the expert reviews and questionnaires. The results were analysed via one-sample t-test with the data integrity analysed via Cronbach’s alpha. The outcome indicated the majority of cloud security adoption framework categories were statistically significant. Potential future study directions and contributions are discussed.  相似文献

In many developing countries such as Saudi Arabia the adoption of cloud computing is still at an early stage. This research aims to investigate the influencing factors in the decision to adopt cloud computing in the private sector. An integrated model is proposed incorporating critical factors derived from a literature review, along with other factors (such as physical location) that have not been examined in previous studies as main factors in the organisation’s decision to adopt cloud services. Data were collected from 300 IT staff in different organisations in the private sector in Saudi Arabia, in order to test the cloud adoption model and explore factors that were positively or negatively associated with cloud adoption. The most influential determinants of cloud adoption were found to be quality of service and trust. However, security and privacy concerns still prevent cloud adoption in this country. This study also showed that the effect of these variables differed according to organisation size and in adopter and non-adopter companies. Overall, these research findings provide valuable guidelines to cloud providers, managers, and government policy makers on ways of encouraging the spread of cloud computing in Middle Eastern countries and increasing its implementation, particularly in Saudi Arabia.  相似文献
